Re: Pink (Test shot with 12-24)
Nice pic. I don't recall ever seeing abnormal fringing with the 12-24. It might just be that this particular combination of colors and extreme contrast caused the fringe. Here's a relatively high contrast pic I shot with the lens a couple of years ago, f8, 15mm: http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=4797891 Here's a 100% crop of the highest contrast area. That could be a bit of blue fringe on the tops of two buildings, but I think it's a reflection of the sky: http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=9388073 I'd shoot some more tests and see if it's a recurring problem. If so, you may want to request a replacement. You should also check for flatness of focus field, wide open at 24mm. If there's a misalignment of elements it might show up there. Re: Pink (Test shot with 12-24) - User Error
All right, I think I've got it sorted out now. First off, I *was* working in a worst-case scenario: full wide (12mm) and shooting pink flowers against a green background. But I also had some weird settings in Camera Raw (I usually use Lightroom instead, but in this case I didn't want to have to import the photos into the Lightroom database to convert them - one of my gripes with Lightroom). Upon examination I discovered that I had the Clarity setting somewhere around -100 (!) instead of at 0. Correcting that and applying some of the fringing correction available in Camera Raw yielded excellent results. Excellent. It's a fine lens, and I was surprised at the earlier result. it's interesting that the fringe can be introduced, or at least exaggerated, in RAW conversion. Something to keep in mind.
