Can someone put all of this stuff into fairygirl speak for me? Just what does that limiter thingee do anyways? What I understood is: For a LONG THROW Macro lens like the FA100/2.8, *IF* the auto-focus has to hunt goes all the way to infinity and back to closest focus and then to whatever the subject distance is, it takes a LOOONG time getting there. A Focus limiter limits the range over which the lens can hunt - instead of going from closest focus to infinity and beyond, you can limit the range over which it is allowed to hunt for focus - say between 1.5 meters and infinity or such. It can hunt through this limited range much more quickly than it can through the entire focus range. Apparently most of the long throw is in the last bit going down to closest focus. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

OT: My first race
I ran my first half-marathon event last Saturday. The race was run on a mildly hilly course around the back of the resort town of Hanmer Springs, which is famous for its hot pools. It was a real day to remember. I felt good on the run and I really enjoyed it. I train on the hills at home so I was really in my element here. The scenery was very nice but I didn't carry a camera on the run. Maybe next time I'll shoulder a tripod-mounted Pentax 6x7 and see how that affects my time. I finished in just under 1 hour 54 minutes, placing 68th out of 143 in my grade. I was wanting to finish under two hours so I'm happy. Even more so to be in the top half. Now my legs have another 4-1/2 days to recover for another half-marathon this Saturday. We'll be overnighting in Hanmer Springs on the way home from that one so I might go for a wander and see if I can take a couple of photos from the course. I wrote a race report with some more details and a couple of photos if anyone's interested. http://www.multisport.net.nz/multisport-news/race-news/840-2010-05-02-hanmer-half-marathon.html Cheers, Dave -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: PESO: The Fine Diner
Thanks, Ecke. It is indeed a neat little place. There is little on-site parking, so people were walking from all directions towards this popular place on Sunday Morning. The diner is located downtown, in a little village that has manage to retain its rural charm despite the nearby interstate and the substantial population growth in the surrounding area. Clinton is one of the two hubs of Hunterdon County, NJ, one of the richest counties in the US. There are, however, several family farms still operating in the area. Re: limiter thingee..
I'd answer but I've mostly forgotten. I think that the full setting means it will search the whole range while the limited will do either macro or normal, depending on which range you're in when you tern the knob. It's not a matter or degree, you set either full or limited. I also seem to remember that the MF setting tightened the mechanism a bit to make manual focus easier. I suggest you just try it out and see what works. Thanks, Rick. Yes, I love the Red Mill, and the Stone Mill (now an art museum) across the river. Several years ago, my son's best friend got married right outside the Red Mill -- a truly lovely venue. Brian, I seriously think all have varying degrees of something. I've picked a few for comment: Goods Shed; Clean and beautifully composed. Decay; I might like it even better in BW. Moore Point Lighthouse; Would like to see it, also, in color and less centered. Holding On; An especially well chosen scene, but sort of suffocated and too near center. Haunted; Large central fence post is aligned with the house and gets in my face..so to speak. Nice set! Re: PESO: The Fine Diner
Thanks. It is an upscale little diner in an upscale little village. It sits on the banks of the South Branch of the Raritan River, near parks and museums. A superb place for breakfast before or after a nice walk. The Red Mill, subject of my other PESO yesterday, in just a couple of blocks away, as in the Old Stone Mill, now an art museum, and a place to rent canoes. I can see why. Too bad about your HD crash! It's happened to me also. Chances are you're also aware, but will mention that a Spanish dancer shot often lends itself to allowing motion in the swirling long skirts.
