The 18-250 might be better than I give it credit for.
I've had my 18-250 for a couple of years. I tend to leave it mounted on a camera so that no matter what photo opportunity presents itself I've got a lens of a suitable focal length. But if I actually knew what I was going to be shooting, I'd throw on a prime of the length that I need. I just didn't think of the 18-250 as fast or sharp enough. It certainly isn't as fast as I'd like, especially at the long end, but I seem to keep getting some of my best shots with it. For example, my shot in Augenblick was taken with it, because at the time, it was my widest lens. Last weekend I was the photographer at a dance workshop. Thursday through Saturday I was mostly getting shots of the whole class. On Sunday I had the 18-250 on my K-x and Frank's 10-20 on his K20, but spent most of the day zooming in tight to get portraits of one, or two people, usually while they were dancing. It certainly helped that one wall of the room was mostly windows, which gave wonderful lighting for the photos. Two of my favorite photos of the weekend were taken on Sunday with the 18-250: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/4900643578/in/set-72157624757360002/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/4900061449/in/set-72157624757360002/ I may have to stop equating it with that big ugly screwdriver in my tool box which is never "the right tool for the job", but so often the tool that I use because it's hand and it'll do the job well enough. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com sent from i4est -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Anybody in the northern hemisphere missing winter?
Interesting stuff. We toured through Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia in August last year and were bemused by the way the francophone population were fixated on events that occurred 250 years ago, right down to the slogan on the Quebec number plates - Je me souviens ("I remember"). We joked that the rest of Canada should adopt the slogan "Get over it!". They seem to have the same bloody-minded attitude that afflicts the Irish. So much energy wasted on meaningless issues, since one European derived way of living is usually similar to another. It is nothing like living in the Middle East or Arica where being part of the wrong group can result in persecution or death. The west is also much less homogeneous than Ontario or Quebec, which are dominated by Anglo-Saxons and French respectively with most of the other ethnicities being relatively new arrivals from the post-WW2 period. The West was settled by subsequent waves of European immigration and has had significant non-European immigration on and off for almost 130 years and there's really no dominant ethnic groups unlike in the east. Folks form Southern Ontario and Toronto in particular are somewhat notorious for assuming that their basic values define 'Canadian Values'. The CBC, which is functionally a Torontonian monopoly, is the most guilty, but given that much of the National Media is Toronto-based and Torontonian-staffed, folks from outside of Southern Ontario get this alot (Hate Toronto is not just a Western thing, Northern Ontarians and Maritimers do too). Often times these 'Canadian Values' aren't shared by those outside of Southern Ontario. -Adam -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: What happens when you press the shutter
I suspect it comes down to 8+ fps cameras need better damping and get it. Note the 5D, like the K10D, is a 3fps camera in the high-end consumer/semi-pro market. The F5 and D3 are much higher-end cameras at higher prices and with far higher framerates. -Adam On Wed, Aug 18, 2010 at 8:59 PM, Rick Womer wrote: > The Canon 5D mirror bounces around as much as the K10D one does; the Nikons > do seem better at damping. A nice gesture by CRIS
When I sent my K20 in to be repaired, I asked about them fixing the eyecup under warranty, they said, and wrote on the paperwork, that it is an accessory, and not something they can replace. No problem, I understand how those things work. I just noticed that my K20 now has a new eyecup, not the old broken one that I had glued back together, so they did fix it "under the radar". A nice, and appreciated gesture. All in all, I'm quite happy with the job that they did. They even did all the basic cleaning and adjusting without charging me. -- Larry Colen l...@red4est.com sent from i4est -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Anybody in the northern hemisphere missing winter?
No, Toronto generally gets a quite mild winter. When we get a winter that more resembles a real Canadian winter, Snow removal actually has to work and that's not in the budget. And most of Canada greatly wishes that Toronto wasn't technically in Canada. It's not that bad, Victoria, BC doesn't even own a snowplow. Of course they've had about 3 feet of snow cumulative in the last 20 years, 2 feet of which happened in one day about 14 years ago. -Adam On Mon, Aug 16, 2010 at 10:27 AM, P. J. Best solution I've found is a Canon Lawyer/Theologian with a Greek/English New Testament. Having their somewhat unique take on Christian Theology torn to sheds by somebody well above their weight level tends to drive Jehovah's Witnesses to tears. Or to screaming fits. Re: PESO - Distributors of Tracts
I can understand how you feel. I dislike the sometimes walls off Girl Scouts outside the local grocery stores. :-) I also get phone calls from the Idaho Falls (a city 200 miles away) Fraternal Order of Police, asking for donations. That happens several times a month. or several times a week. The reason they keep coming back is 1) it's likely not the exact same individuals, 2) people change residences, or 3) life circumstances change. An athiest may not be interested in God today, but possibly some event has occurred in their lives that would make them more receptive next month, next year. Overall though, the slight bother by being interrupted by people or things we may not wish to hear about, is worth the price, and far better than living in a society where free speech, access, and actions are restricted based on the whims of those in power, or the the courts.
