Be that as it may, I am ever so glad that I'm not growing up now. So many of my fondest memories are from doing things that are practically felonies these days: Riding to my best friend's family's cabin in the back of their pickup truck (which would not have been nearly so fun in the winter without the camper shell). Some of the games I played with magnesium shavings, sodium chlorate and such back in high school would have me shipped off to Gitmo as a terrorist. Being a small kid, by today's laws, I'd be required to ride in a kids seat until I was in eighth grade. I probably would have died of embarassment. In the end I bit the bullet and ordered the silver kit mostly because I hated the way the FA24, 43 and 77 (all silver) look on my black K5. I guess there is a risk that the Silver K3 will be available later by itself but as I'm not paying a premium (apart from the cost of the grip I may not use) I don't feel too ripped off. In fact, like most Australians, I am rejoicing that we pay the same price as the US customers. I would rather have waited for solid reviews but if the silver kits sell out and there is no rerun then I would be much more annoyed. I know they are calling it a limited edition of 2000, but that might just mean there will only be 2000 editions of the complete kit, so the only truly limited piece might be the leather strap. That's just a guess, but I can't understand why they would bother bringing out silver versions of the new HD limiteds and then have so few potential buyers. Paul Ewins Melbourne, Australia. Hi Some guy at Flickr said that he wanted the silver version, without the grip, which he didn't need. (The siver version is only available with the grip included). I think that the Silver edition actually is quite cheep. You get the grip and one extra battery and a leather strap for appr. 250 Euro more. That's a very reasonable pricetag. I usually pay 250 Euro for the grip alone - no silver, no leather strap and no extra battery. I guess I'll order the silver version very soon - it's simply beautiful! And I happen to own three silver "limited" lenses - 31 mm, 43 mm, 77 mm. They af VERY nice, beautifully manufactured lenses, that can produce very fine images. Yes, and Cartier-Bresson (and others, I'm sure) covered the bright parts with black tape so that they wouldn't reflect the sunlight and draw attention to themselves. Re: PESO - If at First You Don't Succeed...
Yeah, I wish these kids would wear helmets. That being said all the kids I see there seem to know how to fall. Lots of scraped legs (mostly from pedals hitting shins) but thankfully no head injuries. As for the timing, I must admit I had it set on "continuous" and this was the third of four frames. But thanks anyway. ;-) Cheers, frank Rick Womer wrote: >What amazes me is that these guys still have skulls and teeth. > >Nice timing! > >Cheers, > >Rick > > > >http://photo.net/photos/RickW > > >- Original Message - >From: knarf >To: Pentax-Discuss Mail List >Cc: >Sent: Sunday, October 13, 2013 1:00 AM >Subject: PESO - If at First You Don't Succeed... > >I posted one of Charles actually riding down the rail, and it was >mentioned by Dave Mann how the pros need many takes to get it right. >Charles did the trick twice (that I saw) but missed a few more times >than that: > >http://mondociclismo.blogspot.ca/2013/10/if-at-first-you-dont-succeed.html?m=1 > >I don't like to show "fails" but in this case it's to underscore the >difficulty of the trick and how much hard work and practice it takes to >get it right: > >http://mondociclismo.blogspot.ca/2013/10/where-rubber-meets-rail.html?m=1 > >Hope you enjoy. Re: PESO - Veranda
Thanks, Alan! Among the many peculiarities of the former North American colonies is that the terminal "h" is optional, both in spelling and pronunciation. When one of us Yankees (northerners) says "veranda", you can be sure there's no "h" in sight. When a southerner says "verandah", the third syllable trails off into a beautiful soft ending, and the "h" is very much there. Re: K-3 ban on commenting on image quality
I was listening to the "This Week In Photography" podcast yesterday. The K3 was mentioned in the news section and discussed a bit. Derrick Story was very positive about Pentax. He said he had been given a "K-2" for review. I think he meant K-7, because he mentioned it in earlier blog posts. Anyway, after he had to return the review unit he said he went out and bought one with his own money. That's interesting behavior for a guy that was primarily a Canon shooter for so many years. gs George Sinos www.GeorgesPhotos.net www.GeorgeSinos.com On Sun, Oct 13, 2013 at 9:21 AM, Darren Addy wrote: > I think it is an interesting question. If I am not mistaken the screens are of different dimensions (K10D's is smaller than that of K-5). Re: Can K10 focus screen replace K5?
I don't know about this specific compatibility, but when I went to use my *ist DS screen in the K10D, the metering was way off. The difference in the screen's optics played havoc with the metering sensors' setup. Re: OT: Ai Weiwei’s ‘Forever Bicycles’
Interesting Frank! The video does a much better job than the still pictures. The repetitive pattern of the bike frames makes the shots look like the old film ads for Vivitar zooms showing the 'Exciting' shots you could get while zooming with the shutter open. Regards, Bob S. Can K10 focus screen replace K5?
Dear group, my K5 view finder was dirty, 3 black pieces (size 3mm) on the inside of the focus screen. Re: K-3 ban on commenting on image quality
I think it is an interesting question. While one site said that Pentax/Ricoh did not want images produced from pre-production firmware, it is obvious from the official samples that they do have v1.00 firmware (although it may not be the version installed on the pre-production cameras). I tend to think that the firmware writing department and the manual writing department are given a bit later deadline than the product announcement department, especially when the holidays are rapidly approaching. Marketing could be involved as well, because they are already getting plenty of buzz from just the announcements and the few who get to do "hands on" reviews. That will die down a bit, and then they will be able to generate another big wave when they allow images to be reproduceds (and yet another big wave when the pre-order people begin crowing about receiving them and showing off shots). So it is a way of extending the buzz a bit. I'll be curious to see when it is that they actually show up for order (as opposed to pre-order) on the big sites. Re: K-3 ban on commenting on image quality
To me it makes perfect sense. Until product is fully out, it makes absolutely no sense to publish any samples. Not once and not twice such disclosure had produced very untoward effects to gear makers. On Sun, Oct 13, 2013 at 5:07 PM, Bill wrote: > On 13/10/2013 12:47 AM, J.C.
