In what way is the K-3 not keeping up with state-of-the-art APS-C DSLRs? In fact I think it's a category leader presently. And the other current models: pretty much the same story in each of their respective categories. The only category where Pentax isn't keeping up is FF, which is a mythical one only kept alive by the whinging fanboy base. Re: PESO: Pillar Glow
One trick is to take two photos from points 5 to 10 feet apart that are parallel to the facade of the building & combine them in Photoshop. The perspective distortion is automatically reduced in the combining. Leave some extra room on the left of the building from the left position & leave some extra room on the right when shooting from the right position. Once you combine them you've got some extra room along the edges if you need to do further perspective correction. This may explain it better than I'm able to: http://mikahirsimaki.blogspot.com/2013/01/photoshop-easy-way-to-remove-objects-in.html On 1/21/2014 5:44 PM, Attila Boros wrote: Thanks, Bruce. Re: Weird Photoshop problem
Well, if I can't succeed in getting Photoshop's HDR feature fixed I'll buy a copy of Photomatix, which seems to work very well indeed. In general it's faster and more versatile than Photoshop. With one image I haven't been able to get the tonality I want the way I did with Photoshop (when it worked) but that may just be part of the learning curve I'll have to aspire towards - I've only been using Photomatix for an afternoon, after all. For 99% of what I've tried Photomatix is clearly better. And it's *much* faster. Looks like I'll be spending the $99.00. -- Mark Roberts - Photography & Multimedia www.robertstech.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Thanks Mark. Looks like the RRS L plate will require more machining than I care to do. I'll probably go with a universal plate. I had a universal L plate from Kirk that I got rid of and is no longer available. The feature that appears to be the limiter is the forward protrusion along the front edge of the K-3 base plate. Kenneth Waller http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/kennethwaller - Original Message - From: "Mark C" Subject: Re: Baseplate Hi Ken - I compared my K-5 and K-3 base plates and even tried a few measurements. The K-3 plate is slightly longer in the side to side dimension - maybe 1/8th to 3/16th of an inch longer. The hole for the tripod mount is about 1/16th of an inch further from the sides, so it seems to be positioned porportionately between the two models. They seem to be the same in general in the front to back dimension but there are minor differences in the outline. The biggest dimensional difference between he two cameras is in the top to bottom measure, but that does not affect the base plate. I could drop them both on a scanner and scan the baseplates if that would help. My guess is that tolerances on the L bracket would have to be very close for the size differences to matter. Re: Weird Photoshop problem
You re-installed photoshop, but did you clean out any and all user preferences? They're usually separate from the application's support files and are not automatically removed or updated with a re-install. I've helped out with several cases of ps and LR problems that were corrupted user preferences that survived application re-installation. Re: CMOS sensor for MF
In thinking about it, another interesting part of the MF sensor company being SONY is that there have been no rumors of Sony-branded cameras in the MF space (at least to this point). With their other sensor sizes, there is a bit of a conflict of interest: Use it in a Sony-branded camera and give it a lead time in the marketplace before allowing other companies to put the sensors in their cameras. But if Sony has "no dog in this fight" (if you will pardon the expression) then it is in Sony's interests to sell as many as they can produce. It is doubtful, in my mind, that any one company (like Hasselblad) could dictate terms that would keep other manufacturers from getting their share of the sensors they produce. If that is true, the question is whether Ricoh will be different from Hoya when it comes to paying the price for a first generation product rather than wait for the component price to come down. I don't think there is any question that a 645D II will be coming out sometime in 2014. I think putting a CMOS in makes sense, but I'm wondering if it can be done at the original price point of the 645D (which was $9995, if memory serves). Re: CMOS sensor for MF
The line between the dots (that Dario is connecting) is that the manufacturer that is making the CMOS sensor to be used in the Hasselblad is SONY. That is not insignificant. http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/126702-hasselblad-reveals-first-medium-format-cmos-sensor-opening-the-door-for-other-photography-brands While every company wants to make a profit on everything that they make, the camera body is (in essence) the razor that can be given away at cost in order to sell the razor blades (lenses, grips, flashes, and other accessories). If there are no bodies there is no demand for those. It also provides a "bragging rights" territory. If Pentax comes out with a camera that closely matches the functionality of the Hasselblad at a fraction of the price, then we are back to occupying the same territory that made the Pentax 67 and 645/645n such popular cameras with the medium format demographic. It is worth remembering that the new PRIME III (Fujitsu image processor) has the capabilities to handle the input from a medium format sensor. And a CMOS would have video capabilities, meaning a whole new video market for Pentax 645 lenses. Add in the other things that Pentax has learned from the K-3 line (and before) and you have the potential for a separate processor to help with exposure and white balance, improved AF performance, and perhaps even the adjustable AA of the K-3 (or no AA at all, like the K-5 IIs). Weird Photoshop problem
Although I dislike HDR for "photography", as I find myself doing more and more "graphic design" work I often find it useful for design/illustration purposes. And now it's stopped working properly in Photoshop CS6. Every time I try it I get a useless, bright, washed-out look (the same images and settings render fine when processed on my laptop computer). I suppose I could just use my laptop, but I keep it at school most of the time and it *is* significantly slower than my desktop, so this is quite infuriating. Here's what I've tried so far: Using various pre-sets Processing HDR in 8, 16 and 32-bit modes Re-installing Photoshop Turning off Use Graphics Processor in Photoshop preferences Swapping out the video card in my computer Nothing helps or even changes the problem in any way. I can't find any references to this issue on the web and I'm stumped. -- Mark Roberts - Photography & Multimedia www.robertstech.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
CMOS sensor for MF
Looks like we'll see an updated 645D sooner or later, featuring CMOS sensor technology: http://press.hasselblad.com/press-releases/2014/2014-01-21_h5d-50c.aspx Dario -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Back in the U S of A
Glad you're back safe and well - it was great to see you again. A pity we didn't get a bit more time at Bletchley - my fault, sorry, we missed quite a lot. Glad you found Daunts, it's lovely. http://www.web-options.com/Reading/content/DSCF0044_large.html B > On 21 Jan 2014, at 01:24, Mark Roberts wrote: > > Hi, boys and girls!
