Re: New Pentax bridge camera: XG-1
Quoting John Celio : I'm on the verge of buying a Q7, but I'm doing my best to wait for Photokina just in case they come out with a new one. They've put out a new model every year so far, so it's certainly a possibility. A Q camera wouldn't replace my K-5, but it could certainly be a lot of fun. I could adapt both my K and Auto 110 lenses to it. My K 500mm would be some kind of ridiculous telescope with the Q's crop factor, and I could even get it in black and yellow, to match my car. ;D I have the original Q as well as the K-5. The Q is a lot of fun but difficult to use outdoors in strong sunlight. I'm not sure I'd go for another Q even if they produce one with a viewfinder - I really want a mirrorless with a large sensor. -- Cheers Brian ++ Brian Walters Western Sydney Australia http://lyons-ryan.org/southernlight/ -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: Developing old B&W film -- need help
Thanks to everybody who responded with suggestions. Darren and P.J., - thanks, - I had not known that resource, it's useful. It looks like the optimum process for both films would be Rodinal. Stan, - thanks, - but it looks like the information on the pages linked by Darren and P.J. is sufficient for figuring out the process. Matthew, thanks for the links to A&I and Rocky Mountain Film Lab (RMFL). I am considering A&I as a candidate. Even though they don't use Rodinal, but X-Tol, given the age of the film, I don't think it would make a big difference... I just don't know how to deal with the uncertainty in the time, as they are using a machine, not manual processing. I wonder how much is X-Tol forgiving for the variation in time... Does anybody know? RMFL is too expensive for what I need (36.50 per roll even though it includes scanning), and their service time is "Please allow between one and twelve months for return." Combined with what they have on the "News" page circa 2012 about open-ended "reorganization", that doesn't sound very encouraging. Re: Developing old B&W film -- need help
Igor, In your situation, I'd want a lab where I can talk to the technician & get a feel for if they're going to give the kind of custom service you want (i.e. adjust the development time per the instructions on the box + whatever accommodation they have to make for the film being old). For me, that means a local lab. There's one like that here in Raleigh that I have used in just the kind of situation you describe. From the list, I get the impression that you're somewhere in Texas. If Austin is convenient, try talking to someone at Holland Photo Imaging: http://www.hollandphoto.com/html/ On 7/15/2014 4:29 PM, Igor Roshchin wrote: Hi All, I discovered a few rolls of undeveloped B&W film that are 20-some years old that I shot in late 1980s. OT: Cards next to prints
Last month I did the RAW Showcase and I added prices to the different framed and unframed prints. I didn't add a title or further information on a card about the photo. On our way to a green-way to walk and create some photo captures we stopped by a frame shop to drop off some flyers. While at the shop I talked with the owner and turns out they offer wall space for artists and photographers. I will be taking some of my framed prints over to them and they will be hanging them on their wall. They are not wanting a commission for the sale of any of my photography. Now my question besides a price, my name and business name and web address should I add a title and a brief description onto the cards. They will be placed next to each print. A couple of weeks back I took part in the Nashville RAW Showcase and as part of that we were given video interviews and the showcase was recorded on video. The videographer was kind enough to send me the unedited raw footage so I was able to do some very basic editing to my interview video and to the footage that showed my exhibit. Re: Test,
Yeah, that's kind of what I ran into in my most recent workstation rebuild. I didn't want to build a new workstation, but XP went obsolete & I had to "upgrade" while Windoze7 is still available if I don't want to get stuck with that POS Windoze8. Existing hardware still functioned with the occasional PM, but with memory maxed out at 2GB, it wasn't going to run Windoze7. And the new Motherboard wouldn't support my existing peripherals, so I had to "upgrade" my DVD, video & sound cards. I've got 8GB of RAM installed now and hopefully that will do me for a while. I hope Windoze9 doesn't suck when it comes out & isn't so bloated it won't run on my existing hardware. Moi aussi - my title was tongue-in-cheek - but you knew tht didn't you? I had a Hiroshige print in my paws once - actually, in my home - but it was my then husband's inheritance, not mine, and so it stayed with him. It was the waves, not the mountain.. My ex was a great-great grandson of Commondore Perry and these were goodies distributed to 3 simblings and mates one Christmas. We also got a very special Kimono - since I was the actress, it was decided we should have that. It didn't seem right to take any of those things. ann On 7/15/2014 17:40, Bob W-PDML wrote: Well next time you're there, let Hiroshige be your guide: http://www.hiroshige.org.uk/hiroshige/36_views_fuji_1858/fuji_1858.htm I utterly loathe, despise, hate and condemn all books whose title is along the lines of '500 X you must Y before you die'. You need to get a strip test done on each roll to establish the correct processing. Re: K-3 firmware update to 1.10
From my reading, the implications of using AWB were most negative under similar light situations but with slightly different subjects or compositions - the white balance could vary in those cases. That was why the recommendation was made to lock in a specific WB that would not be subject to those variations. Kenneth Waller http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/kennethwaller - Original Message - From: "P. J. Alling" Subject: Re: K-3 firmware update to 1.10 If you're shooting raw awb is as good as any setting, white balance only really effects the jpeg output of the camera anyway. You can change the white balance in whatever raw converter you're using. Now there is some improvement in the histogram display, since it comes from the jpeg engine, if the white balance matches closely to the environment. However I pretty sure in most situations awd will do a better job in most mixed lighting situations. Re: K-3 firmware update to 1.10
If you're shooting raw awb is as good as any setting, white balance only really effects the jpeg output of the camera anyway. You can change the white balance in whatever raw converter you're using. Now there is some improvement in the histogram display, since it comes from the jpeg engine, if the white balance matches closely to the environment. However I pretty sure in most situations awd will do a better job in most mixed lighting situations. Ann, Yes, I remember that cafe, we almost had a lunch there, even parked by the door, but something prevented us from going in (I think our daughter got asleep). You provoked me into digging into my set of photos from the trip, and posting these 4 photos: http://42graphy.org/misc/2013-weed/ The first two are from Weed. I thought that the combination of the road sign with the painted wall was funny. In the second one, the combination "weed merchantile mall" made me smile. The other two images are of Mt. Shasta as we saw it. (the 3rd image is from a lavender farm nearby). Indeed, Mt. Shasta and its vicinity are great! And the old towns around carry some charm.
