Any inclination to go back to APS cartridges?
Load it and forget it :-).

Ken

P.S.
Actually, I appreciate an adapter for 35mm film in roll. Too bad 120/220
film scanning is an individual process.
I still think Kodak (and others) should have cassettized 35mm films, may be
even MF films somehow, then the life of films may have been a bit longer.
Scanning negs indeed takes some fun away. It is unproductive, particularly
when you have many to scan before even post process them.

Yes this third neurologist's profound $3000 opinion was, "Duh, I dunno!"
Which confirms the second's professional opinion. The first was sure she
knew exactly what the problem was, only the treatment did not help a
bit. The only consolation is that I do seem to be getting better, but it
is so slow that I have to look back a year or more to see the improvement.

A rather specialized one. We have people that keep up with the overhead
projectors, TVs, all the old school stuff. And of course, the 16mm film
and LaserDisc stuff is all long gone now...though we are still very deep
in VHS. :-/

My bag is all the new toys that have computers hooked up to them. I make
lessons MOVE and SING! :-)

And this is after working for 15 years as a printer before going back
and getting my BA (Interdisciplinary Studies, Administrative Information
Management and Business Management, about 50/50) and my MAT (Business
Education). Naturally, they put me in the classroom teaching US History.
:-) Now, I play Train The Teacher. And no, I don't work with blackboards
often...MOST of our teachers can manage that much without my help. :-)

Oh, and Pentax..*istD L, several each K1000, ME Super, Spotmatic. Fave
lens of all time: the Pentax A 1.7 50mm. It just works, is all.

Not really, you could be lucky and the natural point of rotation of
your lens/camera/head combo is close to the actual nodal point or like
Ken your compositions don't feature close in elements that will be
affected by parallax errors.

I have been out of school (PhD in Social Psychology from Purdue) since
1970. I am a researcher and research manager in the federal civil
service, current focus is on leadership development principles and
practices. Monograph on same is in the final editing stages. Previous
edited book on same is available from Amazon. (Day, Zacarro &
Halpin...). The work is branching into a look at cross-cultural
cooperation and teamwork in coalitions. Also taught a graduate-level
course on principles of leadership this fall, first teaching stint in
many years - totally online. In my spare time I do passable woodwork,
make crude silver jewelry (interesting design concepts poorly
executed), and occasionally take passable pictures. Oh, and I travel a
lot.

Scanning medium format is pretty tedious. When I scan I sit aside
with a book as each scan takes about 15 minutes after I've finished
fiddling with the settings. Later in the evening I'll process the
files in Photoshop with some music on. The dICE doesn't seem to work
as well with 6x7 slides so the dust spotting takes a while.

35mm isn't too bad once I get into a good workflow. At the moment
I'm slowly working through a shoebox of old Kodachromes that someone
asked me to scan. Those ones are driving me slightly crazy.

And actually, some of the Kodaks I used to sell were decent little cameras.

Only in certain applications. As far as audio goes, the heat output

Sorry, Ken, I should have made it clear that that was my translation of
their five minute long summary of their findings. But if your question

Also, do not confuse knowledge with intelligence. They often go hand in

they had taught him in school --thirty years later--, but he did have a
hard time tying his shoes because that require a certain amount of

Interesting. What scanner are you using? My 4490 does a 6x6 slide in 3
minutes or so at 2400dpi once I've picked the settings (optical limits
of the pre-V series Epson flatbeds is around 2000dpi so there's no real
point to scanning at higher resolutions).

And Kodachrome is a royal pain to scan. One reason I avoid the stuff.

You probably do not think a Diana Krall CD is the ultimate system test

replacing the tweeters, caps, and terminals. Parts are here just need to

sound OK, not fabulous, not great, just OK.

That's better than what they call them here, Licenced Aircraft
Maintenance Engineer.

So in Australia you'd be L.A.M.E. :-)

Re: Winter's finger

2007-01-02 Thread Bruce Dayton
I have to agree with you somewhat. The background was what made me
interested in the shot. I didn't want to shoot an abstract of just
the water, and found the subject to fill nicely.

Found the virus on the second pass. Had nothing to do with the video. It
was in a zip file and AVQ had not found it previously. Kind of strange,
but it does not seem like it could have had anything to do with the
crash. OH WELL.

Hey Joe,

That actually turned out pretty good. It gave a real good mood and

Bruce, on my screen the snow has very slight blue/cyan tint. I haven't
seen snow for very long time, but just in case it might help - I'd point
this out.

Well spotted!

Occupations

2007-01-02 Thread Don Williams
Occupation(s):

 From school --> Drawing Office/Toolroom Metal Box Company, Cape Town;
Ranching in Rhodesia for seven years; Big Game hunting safaris to make
money; Built and customized big game rifles - also for money.
Manufactured chambering reamers as well. Then used this money for -->
University of Cape Town 1958 - 1975 BSc Microbiology; MSc Organic
Chemistry; PhD Electron Microscopy (Bacteriology); Lecturer in
Microbiology; Head of Electron Microscope Laboratory -->
Medical Research Council - Director, Institute for Electron Microscopy
1975 - 1982;
Moved to Finland 1982; University of Jyväskylä two years; Started
Holosoft Oy, Turbosoft Oy and Borland Finland Oy; sold companies to
Ravenholm, Denmark, in 1993.

Since then I've written a few dozen articles for Nokia, Telecom Finland
and edited scientific publications for a couple of University
departments. I have also examined theses; written a couple of novels;
and still do private research in Protozoology. I sometimes take
pictures; fell trees; ride a mountain bike whilst waiting for the day I
shrug off these mortal coils.

This is a mess and incomplete.

A couple of PESOs

2007-01-02 Thread William Robb
You need to like dogs for this one.
http://users.accesscomm.ca/wrobb/pictures/peso/recent/bigtongue.html

I decided to do my own full moon picture tonight. I don't know why.
This was shot with the K10 behind the A600/5.6 and 2XL teleconverter. The
camera was mounted to the Wimberley head on the Zone VI Standard tripod, but
I decided to leave shake reduction on anyway.
This is a bit of a crop, but not much.

Have fun

Rob, I should mention (and admit ;-) ) that those who told me K10D will
grow on me were right. Right now I find K10D ergonomics *absolutely*
natural. It is slightly big but I've found certain way to grip it so
that I definitely don't look back at *istD. *istD was truly excellent
but K10D is at least not worse, not by the slightest bit.
