may help those of us that are having trouble.
Thanks.

This is from the Transporter manual.

Audio formats
•Lossless Formats (Apple Lossless, FLAC, WMA Lossless)
•“Bit-perfect” CD audio streaming, with reduced storage and bandwidth
usage.
•Approximately 2:1 compression ratio
•Uncompressed formats (AIFF, WAV, PCM)
•Supports raw pass-through of uncompressed PCM audio formats
•Digital passthrough to S/PDIF for DTS •Compressed formats (MP3, AAC,
Ogg Vorbis, MP2, MusePack, WMA)
•MPEG decoding uses MAD software, widely regarded as the most accurate,
most compatible MP3 decoder.
•High accuracy 24-bit synthesis
•Supports all MP3 data rates and sample rates, including VBR
•May be streamed in PCM (raw), MP3 (transcoded), or FLAC (transcoded)
formats
•Sound Check and Replay Gain support for automatic volume control.
•Some formats may require additional software installation (e.g.
Quick-time), depending on platform.

Don't know if this helps or not, but I thought I would pass it along
anyway.

it might be nice to sent a off command when "squeezebox standby" menu

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Last.fm App

I'm pretty sure to listen to last.fm from the standard app you need to:
a) install it once via mysb.com
b) be in UK, Germany or the US (any others?).

I think if you are a paying last.fm subscriber you can use a 3rd party
plugin that works independent of your country.

I'm not familiar with ASDM, but it sounds like it ought to do the trick
for you. Also Wake-over-Wireless-LAN (WoWLAN) definitely works if you
have the right hardware (wireless adapter, chipset, bios settings,
wireless router). How much have you tinkered with the settings trying
to get this to work?

2009-12-29 Thread flemming

Wow that's a ton of info. I need to go through it a couple times so
that I can digest it all :) A couple things stand out to me. The first
is that you had the same problem a couple others did, but only with
certain types of players. One of which was a Transporter which I know
someone else was having issues with as well. I knew SoftSqueeze
wouldn't work because I don't believe that it can natively stream WMA
files. The fact that it exhibited the same symptom as the Transporter
means maybe it's the same issue. I would have certainly assumed that
the Transporter could stream WMA. Like I said I need to read your
summary carefully again. I don't believe there is anything I can do
from the plugin side of things to help with the lack of transcoding
abilities on certain players, but the solution may be simply installing
a helper transcoder like mplayer or the like on the server. This was an
issue many moons ago, and I never personally had to deal with it so I
haven't spent a whole lot of timing looking into it. Thanks to you
folks who are having trouble and keep supplying logs and your
observations it makes my life easier and maybe someone will stumble upon
the fix before I do.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2009-12-29 Thread guiness

Would a 3rd party tool be possible? I've been trying out
AutoShutDownManager evaluation version. It has some pretty cool options.
For example you can tell it to not shut down if a process is hitting
some threshold of performance like IO Write Operations/sec. My tech sav
isn't high enough to know for sure what setting to use but it seems like
there should be some way for ASDM to know when SBS is serving a
Squeezebox. Idle shutdown could then be taken care of by ASDM and all
else by SvrPowerControl. When ASDM shuts down the server
SvrPowerControl could send the SB to mysqueezebox.com. I think this
might suit me for now. This assumes your not using "sleep" and your ok
with starting your computer/server manually when (as in my case) your on
a wireless net and "start on network" isn't an option. (I guess having
the remote start-up option eventually - would be ideal.)

Once the evaluation version of ASDM runs out, it switches to a personal
free version but I'm not sure if the advanced features are accessible
without paying. If not, its pretty expensive.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Last.fm App

2009-12-29 Thread johnsherwin

Hi,

The player is a Squeezebox C-RH62 (see
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/439/881&hub=1&cl=us,en).

The version of Squeezebox server is 7.4.1.

When you say that you can play LastFm as an app on your player has this
been added using the app gallery on squeezebox.com?

At the moment I am not controlling Squeezebox preferences through
squeezebox.com as I cannot register the player on the website. I have
posted in the "Squeezebox Server" forum to try and fix this. As such
cannot apply an app from the apps gallery.

When I check back to the apps gallery out of curiosity and choose
custom radio the only 3 that are listed are Deezer, Mediafly and Sounds
and Effects?

Should the Last.fm app be listed there? And if so can I add it to my
Squeezebox server without having the player registered on the
squeezebox.com, in other words installing it directly to SBS on my PC?

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post.

John.

2009-12-29 Thread indifference_engine

Your LIRC file tells me that your HK amp uses a "special" repeat code
when a button is held. SqueezeIR can't handle these, instead it mimics
pressing the button very quickly. You could try reducing the gap
parameter in the LIRC file to 1 or even 5000 to speed it up a bit.

arnoldl;499817 Wrote:
> -2- are there option to send commands on "start playing" or thing like

I don't think that's going to work as it is the controller that sends
the IR codes, not the receiver. So you would have to be standing in
front of the amp when the box starts playing. If your amp has seperate
on and off codes then you could map the on code to the play button.

Tick BBC iPlayer (and any others you may want)

Click on Apply (bottom right of page)

You should get a prompt to restart Squeezebox Server. Click on now.
Wait about a minute then carry on. You should have BBC iPlayer in the

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Last.fm App

2009-12-29 Thread johnsherwin

Hi, I have recently changed from slimserver to Squeezebox Server. I
cannot register my player on mysqueezebox.com and have posted about this
in the SBS forum.

I have recently signed up for Last.fm and would like to be able to play
it using my Squeezebox and I believe that this is possible. I noticed on
the animation about apps on mysqueezebox.com last.fm apps advertised as
part of the presentation, however they do not seem to be available in
the apps gallery.

Reading some of the previous posts it seems that the earlier version of
SBS worked fine with Last.fm and the new one is having difficulties?

Putting the website to one side for the moment I think I have the audio
scrobbler working on a local level, the only last.fm settings I can find
are in the web control but they only seem to refer to audio scrobbling.

Is there anything else I can do to stream last.fm radio through the
squeezebox?

Or do I have to resolve the problems I have with registering the player
on mysqueezebox.com first?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

There may be, but there is definitely a simpler solution. If you give
all the audiotalk tracks a suitable genre (eg, audio talk) then you can
exclude them from random mixes using the standard 'Random Mix' feature
in SBS. Or if you want more fine tuning of genres to include/exclude you
could use Erland's Dynamic Playlists plugin.

What extension? You need the tgz file. Make sure file extensions aren't changed
if you're using Internet Explorer to download them.

They're of no use on SlimNAS.

Sadly not.. Keep meaning to change it to using a bitmap, which would be

But if you do all that it's even four ways since there's also the

Nevertheless, again, a lot of people ask for it :)

[SlimDevices: Plugins] SlimNas Installation Problem

2009-12-29 Thread qystan

I've just installed FreeNAS - this worked ok.

Tried installing Slimnas using Michael's instructions, got stuck. I'm
not familiar with Linux. Got the following messages:

$ /bin/sh /mnt/fujitsu/slimnas/slimnas-install.sh
Extracting Perl and supporting files...
There has been a failure installing SlimNAS.

I've got the folling files in slimnas:
1. FreeNAS-i386-LiveCD-0.7.1.4944.iso
2. slimnas.tgz
3. slimnas-install.sh
4. squeezeboxserver-7.4.1

Threw these in for good measure - no help
1. squeezeboxserver-7.4.1-1.noarch.rpm
2. squeezeboxserver_7.4.1_all.deb

The log showed:
Dec 30 00:42:13 freenas smbd[7398]: [2009/12/30 00:42:13, 0]

What did I do wrong or is there something else that needs to be set?

Thanks in advance.

Ahah, the two camps...thos that plays whole albums versus those that
build playlists!
There are three ways to play whole albums from the album library
listing (touch album art, "Play All" from next screen, and of course
touching the first track in any album). Why do you need three ways?
Surely two is more than sufficient?

I find it hard to believe that the (very) small advantage gained for
some by being able to play a whole album one screen sooner could
outweigh the inconvenience of irretrievably destroying a playlist for
others. This issue so damages the usability of the iPeng product for me
(and I'm sure for many others with less than fine fingers who build
playlists) that (and for the first time ever) I'm tempted to start a
poll! :-)

(Allowing for thee constraints of the iPhone) the iPeng app is near
perfect for me and I would be entirely happy as it stands if only I
could turn off the "click artwork to play album" function. All the other
functionality listed above has no interest for me and I fear it is
probable that if the only choice was between "all of the above" and
"none of the above" then iPeng would still not be suitable for everyday
use by those inclined to build playlists who have their music held as
albums, and very especially for casual use amongst their visiting

They should still be there.. They've got drop-down menus on now to help things..

Some of the columns are resizable and some are auto-sizing.. The idea was
to eliminate wasted space and not require a horizontal scroll bar.. You can turn
columns on/off by menu-clicking in the header area..

Sorry, What I meant was: I don't want to have options for each and
every user interface choice.
But what I could want to do (and which is a long-term open ticket) is
to add a "party mode" that does things differently for occasions where
you definitely do not want to destroy a playlist.

Options I could imagine are:

- Remove the "touch-to-play" on Album Art.
- Remove the "play" feature altogether (so you manually have to clear
the playlist; "play next" will very likely act as "play" in 1.3 whenever
the playlist is empty).
- Disallow removal of tracks from a playlist (just allow reordering).
- Show the "Trash Can" icon only in "Edit Mode" of the current playlist
page.

Anything else?

I'm definitely unclear about this (and therefore most probably
incorrect) but wasn't this facilty requested because (at the time) it
was not possible to play a complete album easily when you had "play a
single track only when you click on a single track" (or whatever it's
called) set.. and since you've changed this area since the request was
made (and it is now easy to play a whole album, from the next screen by
selecting "Play All") the click album art to play album function is
largely redundant?

replacing a currently playing playlist with a whole album could ever be
useful at a party. Quite the reverse, touching album art by mistake
would be even more irritating than it is normal use.

I, too, have blown away playlists accidentally by touching album
artwork. I think the best solution would be to make this an iPeng

plays the album. Turning off this setting: touch album artwork displays
album tracks. Those of us with fumble fingers will be much happier with
this setup.

Again, what we're talking about here is maintaining SqueezeCenter 7.3.4
on your local server and being able to switch players back and forth
from the local SqueezeCenter to MySqueezebox.com without firmware
updates.

This trick is a little harder for the Duet, but it is possible.
However, there are a couple of real downsides in trying to do this. The
biggest one that I've found is that the new SBC firmware from
MySqueezebox.com has some trouble with SqueezeCenter 7.3.4:
specifically, with the new SBC firmware, you can't use the SBC to switch
a player *to* MySqueezebox.com. Interestingly, you *can* use iPeng to
switch a player from SqueezeCenter to MySqueezebox.com, but the SBC
running the 7.4 level firmware can't do it. Also, if you're running the
7.3 level firmware on the SBC, you can switch the player to
"SqueezeNetwork". But once the player and the SBC are "there", the SBC
will refuse to do anything else before you update the firmware. This is
really maddening.

You *can* use the SBC with the 7.4 level firmware to fetch the player
back to the local SqueezeCenter.

My advice is, if you want to stick with SqueezeCenter 7.3.4, just avoid
using MySqueezebox.com at all costs. Make internet radio playlists for
yourself. But if you really, really need MySqueezebox.com, it's
probably best to submit and upgrade to Squeezebox Server 7.4.2. At this
point, MySqeezebox.com has moved away from SqueezeNetwork.com enough
that SC 7.3.4's SqueezeNetwork functionality is fairly flaky.

Anyway, if you want to try this, this is what you need do: Again, these
instructions are for a linux installation. You'll need to modify the
recipe accoringly for Windows or OSX.

Step 1: download the current crop of firmware to the Squeezecenter
Firmware folder:

Code:

  cd /usr/share/squeezecenter/Firmware
  mkdir bak
  mv *.bin bak
  mv *.version bak
  wget -i http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/7.4.2/
  rm -f index.*

Step 2: Copy the SBC firmware files to the SqueezeCenter cache folder:

Code:

  cd /var/lib/squeezecenter/cache
  mv jive.version jive.version.old
  mv jive_7.3_r6038.bin jive_7.3_r6038.bin.old

  wget http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/7.4.2/jive.version -O
jive.version
  wget http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/7.4.2/jive_7.4.1_r7915.bin
-O jive_7.4.1_r7915.bin

Step 3: Turn off software updates in the SqueezeCenter web interface:
go to Settings->Advanced->Software Updates and set to 'Don't check For
Software Updates'

Step 5: Restart SqueezeCenter

Step 6: Using the SBC, connect the SBR to SqueezeNetwork /
MySqueezebox.com. Accept the software update on the SBC. Wait for the
SBC to restart and connect to the SBR.

Step 7: Using the SBC, reconnect the SBR to your local SqueezeCenter:
My Music->Select the SqueezeCenter.

You should now be able to switch the Duet back and forth from
SqueezeCenter to MySqueezebox.com without firmware updates. But again,
the SBC is not going to operate smoothly in this "mixed" environment.
But using the SB Receiver with iPeng + SC7.3.4 + MySqueezebox.com seems
to work OK.

I would not call it "entirely unnecessary" since so many people asked
for it...
How would a party mode look like besides this?

Sorry. This is not true. By mistake I have left rescan on. Sorry. I
have now taken it off. Thanks for the quick reply.

Hope you had a good Christmas.

Think the third party Squeeze plugins and applets are important?

No. I do no rescan at all.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2009-12-29 Thread ModelCitizen

Over the Christmas period I've had a fair fe friends play with iPeng.
With instruction most of them got it pretty quickly. The common problem
that every single user had was the ease of accidental destruction of a
carefully built up playlist. After watching a couple of them create a
playlist it became apparent that they were touching album artwork by
mistake.

The fact that accidentally touching album artwork instantly plays the
album is a very, VERY bad thing. There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever
that it should be removed. It is an entirely uneccessary function as it
is possible to play the hole album form the next page and it is
confusing as touching the album title lists the tracks. It is expected
that touching the album title and the album art should produce the sane
results.

This is the only real flaw with an otherwise superb piece of
engineering, but it is a glaring and frustrating fault.

This means the cache is there but outdated.
Do you do a clear and rescan of your SC db every night? Do you probably
restart SBS after that?
Is this the normal 7.5.0 or the embedded branch?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2009-12-29 Thread ModelCitizen

Multiple times over the holiday period iPeng seems to have lost its
cache. I have just started it up after the iPhone has been on charge
over night and navigated to genres. Although individual genres are
listed there are no albums or artists listed under each genre.
Navigating to albums I can see the list of albums with individual cover
artwork but no tracks are listed for each album. Likewise with artists,
artists are listed by name but have no tracks or albums associated with
them.

Flushing iPeng cache cures the problem.

I am using 7.5 beta, updated nightly and my controllers do not have any
problems.

At the moment I've stopped all third party development on the
Squeezebox platform, I'll consider restarting when Logitech shows some
indication that they are going to prioritize supporting third party
development. However, it's still a good idea to post any bugs here in
case anyone else want to take over the plugins/applets or Logitech
changes their mind regarding third party development or something else
happens that makes the inspiration come back.

Is this only with Information Screen or is it the same behaviour in all
screen savers ?
If it's the same in all screen savers, please post a bug at
bugs.slimdevices.com.

I'm afraid the Now Playing screen is a bit of a hack, it really
requires custom code to be handled correctly. The real solution would be
if Logitech allowed us to change the existing Now Playing screen but
unfortunately that isn't possible a the moment due to licensing
restrictions. I'm not sure what's needed to make an item scroll, it's
kind of magic, some items scrolls and some doesn't.

I'm guessing scrolling works in the standard Now Playing screen ?

2009-12-29 Thread Chunkywizard

Hi Erland,

after a couple of days playing I have found 2 things which you may or
may not be able to fix. Firstly, when powering off the radio with the
Power button it now takes 2 pushes. The first exits Information Screen
and the second powers down the radio. Anyway, or making the first push
power down? Secondly, when I have long artist names or song titles they
disappear off the right of the screen. Have you thought of supporting
scrolling in this case (this the native Now Playing screen)?

Thanks again,

CW

Do that in Objective-C as well and I offer you a double expresso in any

C'mon, you've got plenty of time: touring the terrasses in better in
