Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: (not so) Sirius Plugin
Wow that's a ton of info. I need to go through it a couple times so that I can digest it all :) A couple things stand out to me. The first is that you had the same problem a couple others did, but only with certain types of players. One of which was a Transporter which I know someone else was having issues with as well. I knew SoftSqueeze wouldn't work because I don't believe that it can natively stream WMA files. The fact that it exhibited the same symptom as the Transporter means maybe it's the same issue. I would have certainly assumed that the Transporter could stream WMA. Like I said I need to read your summary carefully again. I don't believe there is anything I can do from the plugin side of things to help with the lack of transcoding abilities on certain players, but the solution may be simply installing a helper transcoder like mplayer or the like on the server. This was an issue many moons ago, and I never personally had to deal with it so I haven't spent a whole lot of timing looking into it. Thanks to you folks who are having trouble and keep supplying logs and your observations it makes my life easier and maybe someone will stumble upon the fix before I do. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl
Would a 3rd party tool be possible? I've been trying out AutoShutDownManager evaluation version. It has some pretty cool options. For example you can tell it to not shut down if a process is hitting some threshold of performance like IO Write Operations/sec. My tech sav isn't high enough to know for sure what setting to use but it seems like there should be some way for ASDM to know when SBS is serving a Squeezebox. Idle shutdown could then be taken care of by ASDM and all else by SvrPowerControl. When ASDM shuts down the server SvrPowerControl could send the SB to mysqueezebox.com. I think this might suit me for now. This assumes your not using "sleep" and your ok with starting your computer/server manually when (as in my case) your on a wireless net and "start on network" isn't an option. (I guess having the remote start-up option eventually - would be ideal.) Once the evaluation version of ASDM runs out, it switches to a personal free version but I'm not sure if the advanced features are accessible without paying. If not, its pretty expensive. -- guiness guiness's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17782 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Last.fm App
Hi, The player is a Squeezebox C-RH62 (see http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/439/881&hub=1&cl=us,en). The version of Squeezebox server is 7.4.1. When you say that you can play LastFm as an app on your player has this been added using the app gallery on squeezebox.com? At the moment I am not controlling Squeezebox preferences through squeezebox.com as I cannot register the player on the website. I have posted in the "Squeezebox Server" forum to try and fix this. As such cannot apply an app from the apps gallery. When I check back to the apps gallery out of curiosity and choose custom radio the only 3 that are listed are Deezer, Mediafly and Sounds and Effects? Should the Last.fm app be listed there? And if so can I add it to my Squeezebox server without having the player registered on the squeezebox.com, in other words installing it directly to SBS on my PC? Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post. [SlimDevices: Plugins] Last.fm App
Hi, I have recently changed from slimserver to Squeezebox Server. I cannot register my player on mysqueezebox.com and have posted about this in the SBS forum. I have recently signed up for Last.fm and would like to be able to play it using my Squeezebox and I believe that this is possible. I noticed on the animation about apps on mysqueezebox.com last.fm apps advertised as part of the presentation, however they do not seem to be available in the apps gallery. Reading some of the previous posts it seems that the earlier version of SBS worked fine with Last.fm and the new one is having difficulties? Putting the website to one side for the moment I think I have the audio scrobbler working on a local level, the only last.fm settings I can find are in the web control but they only seem to refer to audio scrobbling. Is there anything else I can do to stream last.fm radio through the squeezebox? Or do I have to resolve the problems I have with registering the player on mysqueezebox.com first? There are three ways to play whole albums from the album library listing (touch album art, "Play All" from next screen, and of course touching the first track in any album). Why do you need three ways? Surely two is more than sufficient? I find it hard to believe that the (very) small advantage gained for some by being able to play a whole album one screen sooner could outweigh the inconvenience of irretrievably destroying a playlist for others. This issue so damages the usability of the iPeng product for me (and I'm sure for many others with less than fine fingers who build playlists) that (and for the first time ever) I'm tempted to start a poll! :-) pippin;499955 Wrote: > > Sorry, What I meant was: I don't want to have options for each and > every user interface choice. > > Options I could imagine are: > > - Remove the "touch-to-play" on Album Art. > - Remove the "play" feature altogether (so you manually have to clear > the playlist; "play next" will very likely act as "play" in 1.3 whenever > the playlist is empty). > - Disallow removal of tracks from a playlist (just allow reordering). > - Show the "Trash Can" icon only in "Edit Mode" of the current playlist > page. > Anything else? (Allowing for thee constraints of the iPhone) the iPeng app is near perfect for me and I would be entirely happy as it stands if only I could turn off the "click artwork to play album" function. All the other functionality listed above has no interest for me and I fear it is probable that if the only choice was between "all of the above" and "none of the above" then iPeng would still not be suitable for everyday use by those inclined to build playlists who have their music held as albums, and very especially for casual use amongst their visiting friends. Again, what we're talking about here is maintaining SqueezeCenter 7.3.4 on your local server and being able to switch players back and forth from the local SqueezeCenter to MySqueezebox.com without firmware updates. This trick is a little harder for the Duet, but it is possible. However, there are a couple of real downsides in trying to do this. The biggest one that I've found is that the new SBC firmware from MySqueezebox.com has some trouble with SqueezeCenter 7.3.4: specifically, with the new SBC firmware, you can't use the SBC to switch a player *to* MySqueezebox.com. Interestingly, you *can* use iPeng to switch a player from SqueezeCenter to MySqueezebox.com, but the SBC running the 7.4 level firmware can't do it. Also, if you're running the 7.3 level firmware on the SBC, you can switch the player to "SqueezeNetwork". But once the player and the SBC are "there", the SBC will refuse to do anything else before you update the firmware. This is really maddening. You *can* use the SBC with the 7.4 level firmware to fetch the player back to the local SqueezeCenter. My advice is, if you want to stick with SqueezeCenter 7.3.4, just avoid using MySqueezebox.com at all costs. Make internet radio playlists for yourself. But if you really, really need MySqueezebox.com, it's probably best to submit and upgrade to Squeezebox Server 7.4.2. At this point, MySqeezebox.com has moved away from SqueezeNetwork.com enough that SC 7.3.4's SqueezeNetwork functionality is fairly flaky. Anyway, if you want to try this, this is what you need do: Again, these instructions are for a linux installation. You'll need to modify the recipe accoringly for Windows or OSX. Step 1: download the current crop of firmware to the Squeezecenter Firmware folder: Code: cd /usr/share/squeezecenter/Firmware mkdir bak mv *.bin bak mv *.version bak wget -i http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/7.4.2/ rm -f index.* Step 2: Copy the SBC firmware files to the SqueezeCenter cache folder: Code: cd /var/lib/squeezecenter/cache mv jive.version jive.version.old mv jive_7.3_r6038.bin jive_7.3_r6038.bin.old wget http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/7.4.2/jive.version -O jive.version wget http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/7.4.2/jive_7.4.1_r7915.bin -O jive_7.4.1_r7915.bin Step 3: Turn off software updates in the SqueezeCenter web interface: go to Settings->Advanced->Software Updates and set to 'Don't check For Software Updates' Step 5: Restart SqueezeCenter Step 6: Using the SBC, connect the SBR to SqueezeNetwork / MySqueezebox.com. Accept the software update on the SBC. Wait for the SBC to restart and connect to the SBR. Step 7: Using the SBC, reconnect the SBR to your local SqueezeCenter: My Music->Select the SqueezeCenter. You should now be able to switch the Duet back and forth from SqueezeCenter to MySqueezebox.com without firmware updates. But again, the SBC is not going to operate smoothly in this "mixed" environment. But using the SB Receiver with iPeng + SC7.3.4 + MySqueezebox.com seems to work OK. -- gharris999 gharris999's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=115 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=48521 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread
Over the Christmas period I've had a fair fe friends play with iPeng. With instruction most of them got it pretty quickly. The common problem that every single user had was the ease of accidental destruction of a carefully built up playlist. After watching a couple of them create a playlist it became apparent that they were touching album artwork by mistake. The fact that accidentally touching album artwork instantly plays the album is a very, VERY bad thing. There is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that it should be removed. It is an entirely uneccessary function as it is possible to play the hole album form the next page and it is confusing as touching the album title lists the tracks. It is expected that touching the album title and the album art should produce the sane results. This is the only real flaw with an otherwise superb piece of engineering, but it is a glaring and frustrating fault. Multiple times over the holiday period iPeng seems to have lost its cache. I have just started it up after the iPhone has been on charge over night and navigated to genres. Although individual genres are listed there are no albums or artists listed under each genre. Navigating to albums I can see the list of albums with individual cover artwork but no tracks are listed for each album. Likewise with artists, artists are listed by name but have no tracks or albums associated with them. Flushing iPeng cache cures the problem.
