Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] A few words about bridges and my work in general

2022-12-12 Thread P Nelson

Philippe,
First, I want to thank you for all your hard work on developing products
that support the LMS/squeezebox system. Of course, it is not just you
but there are many others that volunteer their own time to contribute.
You have every right to be annoyed when someone complains in the manner
you have described.

This community will respond in a polite manner to a question that has
been asked before without a snarky response of “did you search for ‘x’”.
I am amazed how quickly, and the enormous effort people, will take to
help a person resolve a problem that might be unique to that person’s
equipment and set-up.

All I can say is, there are a lot of people on this forum that truly
appreciate your effort, so please do not let the rude minority get to
you. :)

Not all modern smart phones have an SD card slot, such as the iPhone.

The point is if there is sufficient storage space, transferring songs to
your phone would eliminate the need for a more complex VPN setup and
using mobile data. I use this method to listen to my music in the car
and it is useful when not in mobile phone coverage. It does not have my
entire collection, but more than enough to keep me happy.

Michael and Ralphy, thanks for explaining codec. I hope now get it.
The encoding ability (which was never used in the hardware) was removed,

Update Fraunhofer FDK AAC Codec Library v2.0.3 and remove

As the other Paul mentioned Pandora has stations not specific tracks. I

If you want 5 ghz WiFi connection, a wifi to Ethernet bridge work work,

Try connecting using Ethernet to see if problem goes away. If yes, then
you might have wifi network issues.

As for my reported problem, it happened two times, but it has not

The same is the Radio would not automatically reconnect after a router
reboot. Different is that for me repair network did not work.

Currently, the Radio says memory is 53% free. My set-up is very basic,
except for Community Firmware it is stock, so I do not know what would
take up memory in the Radio. If it happens again, I will look to see
what is available memory.

2021-11-18 Thread P Nelson

At my office, the WiFi router was turned off for several days while I
was away. After turning the router back on, the SB Radio would not
reconnect to my WiFi network. Attempts to use repair network failed.
Attempts to select and connect to the WiFi network failed. I rebooted
the radio. It did not automatically reconnect. I had to select the
WiFi network and re-enter the password. It then worked. Running
firmware 8.0.1-r16867. Most of the time I use the mysb.com server.

I have noticed unpredictable behavior trying to reconnect to the WiFi
network. Not sure if I could recreate the problem. If there are logs
that could help, let me know.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Community Firmware for Squeezebox Radio/Touch/Controller and LMS 8

2021-09-23 Thread P Nelson

The SB Radio at my office has been exhibiting strange behavior since,
yesterday, when I installed the recent firmware Version 8.0.1 r16867. I
typically use mysqueezebox.com instead of running LMS on the work
computer as I mostly listen to a jazz radio station.

After coming back from lunch, in the morning, etc. and turning the Radio
on I get the message "cannot connect to mysqueezebox.com". The Wifi
icon is blue. All attempts to connect to mysequeezebox.com or LMS
running on the computer fail. Another symptom is the control interface
is not very responsive. Turning the dial to change an option takes 5-10
seconds to scroll. I even notice the screen being frozen halfway when
trying to page back. The resolution is to turn it off and on again.

I don't think it is the dreaded WiFi6 interference problem as I do not
see a red icon. At home, when the Wifi6 problem occurs, the interface
operates fine.

As a process to eliminate the problem, how can I roll back to prior
firmware Version 8.0.1 r16862?

Any other ideas?

I had similar issues with my Radios; I changed nothing in my setup but
they suddenly stopped working. Test the SB Radio with an ethernet
connection. If this solves the problem, it is likely interference from
a neighbor using WiFi6.There appears to be two solutions. One is
install a WiFi to ethernet bridge to bypass the SB Radio's internal
WiFi. Another option is to install WLANPOKE created by POMDEV, see this

Good luck.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Picore - Squeezelite 32 bit length padding

2021-08-09 Thread P Nelson

When I do comparisons I use ABx testing. This means there are three
samples, and two are identical, ie A=x or B=x. I have to determine
which two samples are the same. If I cannot do that, then I conclude my
perception about hearing a difference, or tasting bottle differences in
wine, is wrong. (Sometimes I notice two bottles of the same wine taste
a little different and I can repeatedly pass a ABx test, but sometimes I
fail the ABx test.)

Your point about listening to the music and not wanting to turn it off
is a good point. Back when the ipod was the big thing, I could not
listen to my ipod for a more than about a hour. The sound was harsh to
me. I had to switch back to simple radio on my car. My current iPad is
acceptable sound while I am driving.

Sorry for detracting from topic of this thread, but my point is be sure
you are actually hearing a difference when making various changes. I am
not saying you cannot hear a difference, but using the a ABx method is a
better way to validate.

I am also interested is streaming service that works with LMS, but the
focus is on ease of use. Of course "ease of use" is subjective. For
many people on this forum with their technical skills, all might
considered easy to them!I have done the ABx listening tests so
lossless or 64 bit at a 1.2 million sample rate (yes, sarcasm) is not my
highest priority. However, the stream should not be some crappy low-res
compressed MP3; I can notice the difference.

I thought about Tidal, but the MQA debacle (or some would say scam)
turned me off to that service. That leaves Spotty, Qobuz, or Deezer.
Differences on integration and ease of use with LMS?

Thanks!

I went back to post 1 instructions. It does say to go to the advanced

always active as opposed to a on/off option.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Community Firmware for Squeezebox Radio/Touch/Controller and LMS 8

2021-07-18 Thread P Nelson

I figured out the problem. On LMS 8.1.1 running on PcP 8.0.0, under the
Settings>Plugin tab, the Community Firmware box was checked, and I had
restarted LMS. However, looking at the debug log it was looking to
"http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/"; for the firmware and
not
"https://ralph_irving.gitlab.io/lms-community-firmware/update/firmware/";

I then looked under Settings>Advanced>Community Firmware for
Touch/Radio/Controller, and the box was unchecked. Checking the box and
restarting LMS solved the problem. I hope I explained the problem and
solution clearly, there was a mismatch between the plugsin tab where the
box was checked and the advanced tab where the box was unchecked.

There is some problem occurring in LMS for pCp whereby checking the
community plugin box doesn't really activate the plugin. Recall, under
plugins, I had tried unchecking, restart LMS, and check the box, restart
LMS to get the community firmware to work, but that method did not work.

Should I post this issue in the LMS forum?

Double check that the Community Firmware is a Enabled plugin.

The Radio has second menu location for a software update under:
Settings>Advanced>Diagnostics>Software Update

If you have not done a factory reset, which is recommended prior to
installing the Community Firmware, you might try the factory reset, or
try it again.

I believe it can take up to 24 hours for the community firmware to show
up after the plugin is activated.

If the Wifi is dropping frequently due to some mesh network
interference, the Community firmware will not solve the problem. You
will need the wlanpoke. Look in the Radio forum, a person just recently
posted simplified instructions. Installing wlanpoke in on my to do

I am not sure if this belongs here, so it it belongs somewhere else, let
me know.

I have an SB Radio on firmware 8.0.1-r16835. When I returned to my
office, one of my Red Radio's wifi had the red symbol so it was not
connected. My other Back Radio four feet away was fine. I have had
some recent trouble with the Red Radio radio seeing SSIDs. (The problem
may be different that the disconnection problem that occurs in Radios
due to interference as the Black Radio has not had any problems.) I
wanted to try repair network prior to a reboot. The Red Radio got
stuck on "repair network". After 15 minutes I tried to cancel with a
long press of the home or power button, but it would not cancel its
attempt. I had to unplug and remove the battery to reboot. Upon
rebooting, Red saw my wifi network and connected again.

The issue that might be a firmware related is if the Radio gets stuck
and the ability of a long press of the home button to be an escape.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Material Skin

2021-02-14 Thread P Nelson

I have heard the Material Skin is great so I wanted to give it a try.
There is a learning curve to figure out where stuff is located, but that
should be expected.

I copy a podcast to a podcast music folder, and then play it using the
music folder option. This avoids having to rescan for a temporary file.
I could not find the music folder option in the material skin. I
decided to revert back to the default interface, which is when I had
problems. The screen was messed up using Chrome. Closing and
restarting LMS did not fix the problem. It was so bad, that it was
difficult to get to interface setting to double check the default
interface option was selected. I tried using Edge and it displayed
okay. I went into the Chrome privacy settings and deleted all the cache
and cookies from the last 24 hours and that fixed the problem. I am not
sure if this is an issue for the Material Skin plug-in or LMS.

I am running LMS 8.01 on a Pi using Picore 7.0.

I do like the material skin as it works better with smaller screens on a
phone or tablet, but when I cannot find a setting, I need to go back to
the default interface easily.

My apologies if this issue has already been discussed.

I did a Wi-Fi channel reconfiguration which did help a little as the
frequency of the disconnect diminished. I suspect these Wi-Fi extenders
are using a separate channel which cannot be adjusted. Using a Wi-Fi
analyzer, I see an unnamed channel spike and then disappear.
I have looked at:
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?109953-WiFi-connection-unstable-lost-on-three-Radios

The link provided by jeroen2 is also helpful.

I suspect Radio Wi-fi problem is due to some type of wi-fi extender or
mesh network causing interference and the Radios are very sensitive to
the issue.
The good news my neighbor is willing to coordinate Wi-Fi channels. I
may have to run a Cat5 for him and put in a second access point to
eliminate his Wi-Fi extender. However, if the community firmware update
is know to fix it, then that would be easier. I will try it with one of
the Radios and see what happens.

Thanks

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Community Firmware for Squeezebox Radio/Touch/Controller and LMS 8

2021-01-19 Thread P Nelson

I was reading through the thread to find what improvements or issues are
resolved by installing the community firmware update. It was not until
post#130 that I found a link to a list:
https://ralph_irving.gitlab.io/lms-community-firmware/changelog.html

I recommend the first post be edited to include this link, or if I
missed it, please make it more obvious.

I am a basic user and I tend to believe in “if it isn’t broke, don’t try
and fix it.” I admit I struggle with that because with technology
things become outdated quickly, like internet security. However, I have
been subject to installing updates (not squeezebox related) that ending
up breaking functions instead of fixing or improving function which is
really frustrating. My worst fear would be bricking the unit with a
failed firmware update.

The biggest issue I have right now with several of my SB radios is it
drops the Wifi connection. This is being caused by a new neighbor’s
Wifi extender causing some type of interference. (The problem
disappears if I move the SB Radio to my office.) The only way to get
the Radio to connect to wifi again is to reboot, as trying to connect to
a second wifi access point will not work until after a reboot.

I see some references to Wifi and wireless modules in the new firmware.
Any chance the firmware update might fix the wifi problem?

Thank you to everyone that has been working very hard to keep this great
product functioning!

Paul

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster and Duet Controller...?

2012-11-17 Thread P Nelson

I am moving from a SB classic3 to the Touch so I need a new IR Blaster
configuration file to control my Rotel RSP-1098. The file above from
epoch1970 works, except for the volume control. I downloaded the
WinLIRC program to create the file, read the information, but I am
having zero success. I cannot even create a file. I do have the raw
file from IR Learn plug in. Can someone take pity and create the file I
need?

Thanks,

Paul

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] IR Blaster and Duet Controller...?

2012-11-14 Thread P Nelson

I have a squeezebox Touch and want to get the Ir-Blaster to work, but I
do not fully understand exactly what I need. (I got it working with my
SB classic) I read the information on the author's website, but it
assumes knowledge I do not have. Apparently I need a file with a
certain type of codes placed into the plug-in directory. I have an
RSP-1098 and am looking for the power on, volume up, volume down, and CD
source code (or an aux input).

Voskuh and epoch1970, apparently you got it to work with a rotel gear.
Could you post the file witht he right codes?

Thanks

P Nelson
