Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Squeezelite-X
I have a new PC and with working from home now I decided to setup a squeeze player on my PC. I ran into your application which is really awesome...thanks for creating this!! I have one question...I only see very fundamental settings and from screenshots earlier in the thread it looks like there are configurable options. In "Settings" from windows for the app I just see things like terminate, reset, repair, uninstall, etc. Where do I gain access to the other options? Thanks!! +1 for Orange Squeeze. Squeezecommander is good, but is not an active project at the moment. Orange Squeeze is quite active. The developer even has a preview version which he uses to release changes very quickly...some of them experimental. erland;694799 Wrote: > What kind of information do you think people would like to see on it ? > Would the guests like to interact with it somehow using their own smart > phones ? smart phone interaction I think would be strictly a controller function, in so called party mode. If a guest queues up a new track, a notification could be put on the "now playing" screen. Maybe the last track added would persist on the screen. As far as what should be on the screen, I would say: - artwork - track title - track artist - progress bar - previously played track w/info - upcoming track to be played w/info. The previous/upcoming track info could included artwork, but be less prominent on the screen since it's really just there as an fyi. As far as smartphone interaction went, it would be cool (perhaps in a geeky sort of way) for the guests to be able to vote "thumbs up/thumbs down" on currently playing tracks. These stats could be put up on the screen in real time. After the party, it would be interesting to collect the data. If the smart phone app required that the user register with some sort of name, you could track stats based on the user. You could even envision a smart playlist that built the ongoing playlist based on feedback from the users, much in a way that Pandora does, but using music from your library. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Anyone want an Android tablet as now playing screen ?
Yeah, I remember those now-playing screens. There's something about the retro look and making our modern devices look like our old ones :-). I'm particuarly fond of the retro VU meters for the Touch. If my Revue was capable of running an SB player app, I think I would use it as such. People have looked at that and it doesn't seem like it will be a reality. So, no, I don't use it to play music. Just to see how well it would work, I fired up Pandora one time and was impressed with how nice it was to have the cover art and stuff on a big screen. I have a controller app installed on my revue only because I can - I don't really use it. A now-playing screen on the Revue I think would be great for parties. -- maggior Rich - Setup: 2 SB3s, 4 Booms, 1 Duet, 1 Receiver, 1 Touch, iPeng on iPod Touch, SqueezeCommander on Xoom. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Anyone want an Android tablet as now playing screen ?
It would be interesting. I don't necessarily *need* it, but it would be cool. For me, being able to do it with google TV (specifically the Logitech Revue) would be best. Obviously, that is always connected to my TV whereas my andriod tablet follows me around the house. For it to be engaging, I think the screen should have some sort of animation. I had an idea (which I was going to do as an exercise to dip my toe in android development myself) to have a "now playing" screen that showed the side view of a turntable platter rotating with a strobe. Maybe even show the cartidge drop on the album and slowly move toward the center as would happen when a real lp is playing. This could even be proportional to the length of the track, like a progress indicator. The track/album/time information could be displayed on there too. When the track would change, there could be some sort of animation of the album being dropped (like a record changer or just bing placed on the platter). Prior to the animation, a record label could be displayed showing the next track, with length, artist, etc. in a format like you would see on an lp (or 45). Taking this further, you could have options for a more modern scheme where maybe it's a CD juke box or something. You could even do a old style jukebox scheme rather than a turntable. I think something like that would be really cool rather than a relatively static "now playing" screen, especially on a TV. I would certainly be rather complicated, but that's what I've envisioned. I have coding skills, but I'm not a graphic designer, so I never really got anywhere with the idea. -- maggior Rich - Setup: 2 SB3s, 4 Booms, 1 Duet, 1 Receiver, 1 Touch, iPeng on iPod Touch, SqueezeCommander on Xoom. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)
I updated to 7.5.5 last night and updated to the current version of this plugin. Once I did this, I had problems playing Spotify music. I don't know whether it was the upgrade to 7.5.5 or the latest plugin. My apologies if this is already known info, I didn't want to search through this huge thread. I am running Open SuSE Linux (see my sig). Anyway, what I found was that everything worked fine unless squeezeboxserver was stopped and restarted. I could browse Spotify music and it would appear to be playing music, but no sound was being generated. The log file indicated an error writing to some stream buffer. At first, only a reboot of my sysetem helped. What I found was that after stopping squeezeboxserver, the "no FLAC" version of the spotify daemon was still running. If I killed that, and then restarted squeezeboxserver (which would restart the spotify "no FLAC" daemon), everything was fine. The only reason I'm really affected by this is that I start MusicIP manually, which means I have to restart squeezeboxserver after I boot my system. You may ask "why did I upgrade to 7.5.5"? Because I'm trying out Rhapsody again and unless I used mysqueezebox.com, I had to upgrade my local server. -- maggior Rich - Setup: 2 SB3s, 4 Booms, 1 Duet, 1 Receiver, 1 Touch, iPeng on iPod Touch. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread
Perhaps this is old news...but just in case. If I navigate to an artist that only contains one album, when I click on the artist's name, it jumps past the next screen right to the track listing for the album. This isn't too big of a deal, but it is confusing when building up a playlist - in these cases you have to go back to the artist and add the artist rather than the album. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] squeezecast questions
Thanks, that makes sense. Sounds like it's not an easy problem to solve unless iOS is changed - or squeezecast is rolled into something like iPeng. I'm deducing that FLAC is being played natively - I have no way of know for certain. My server is not set to transcode for the player, so that rules that out. That leaves trascoding on the iPod by squeezecast. It's possible, but if it is capable of trascoding to mp3, why not decode it and play the lossless data? Also, the playback is perfectly gapless. Any FLAC-mp3 transcoding setups that I've used (including squeezecenter) introduce gaps. If the squeezecast developer is reading this, perhaps they can confirm this. -- maggior Rich - Setup: 2 SB3s, 4 Booms, 1 Duet, 1 Receiver, 1 Touch, iPeng on iPod Touch. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] squeezecast questions
I downloaded and installed the app tonight. It was easy to setup and connected to my server very easily. I verified that it does play FLAC natively and gaplessly!! I'm very happy with the app. There is obviously still some work to be done, but in general it works well!! Once it is streaming, it's stable. I found I had to start it playing from within the squeezecast app and then take over control via iPeng, otherwise the connection with the server would be lost. Not a big deal once you understand that. Once the stream is going, I can switch albums very easily. Pausing and resuming playback seems to loose the server connection too. What really impressed me was that while squeezecast was playing, it didn't skip a beat as I checked my email, facebook, and surfed the internet with safari. It's cumbersome, though. It's interesting that you can't charge for upgrades. That doesn't really motivate developers to continually improve their apps on an ongoing basis. The "in-app-purchase" scenario sounds cumbersome. Regarding the iPod Touch playlists - thanks for the info on the "on the go" playlist. I guess the current situation is better. I still have one question though - how do you play a playlist? The only option I see is to shuffle it, which I don't want to do. And when I do shuffle it, it only plays from one of the albums I added to the list. Also, is there a way to add music to the playlist as it is playing? The manual is totally useless in this regard :-(. I suspect the answer to these questions is "no" because I notice that there are a fair number of apps out there for playlist management. I'm really surprised at how the iPod Touch feels like a 1st gen product. Reading about the OS 4.x update, it seems like a mess. Rapid battery drain issues seem rampant since the most recent update. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread
Hi Pippin - Yesterday my iPod Touch arrived - I got a great deal on a 3rd gen 64 GB model :-). The first thing I did was download iPeng to it!! It's is truely as good as I've read. Not being used to the Touch interface philosophy, it took a little getting used to. But with the tutorials on the device and experiementation, I was able to figure it out pretty quickly. By this evening, I was syncing players and editing playlists with now trouble. After playing with iPeng last night and today, I decided I should also load some music on it too. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New WeatherTime Screensaver adds graphical forecasts
Has anybody noticed that when running 7.5.0 and WeatherTime cannot retrieve the weather that it causes long dropouts (~30 seconds) in the audio that is being played back? I noticed this when I first installed 7.5.0 and loaded up this plugin. Then the problem went away after I did some other things (clear cache, uninstall old, install clean, etc.). Then, last week there was a day where my ISP was down and the problem came back. I recalled that when I last had the problem that my weather wasn't working (? on the screen), so I disabled the plugin and the problem went away. Still hasn't come back after pretty heavy usage. For now I've disabled the plugin because uninterrupted playback of my music is more important than having weather on my SB3s. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Use remote control to control Linux
You can customize a couple of files to modify the behavior of certain IR codes. In a subdirectory in the squeezecenter heirarchy called IR, you will find files with a .map extension and a .ir extension. If you create a custom.map file, changes you put in there will override what is in the default. Any .ir file you create will show up in the setup options for a player in the web UI. If you go into the help in the webui for SC, there are some details on modifying these files. I did some of this to make my DirecTV remote work with my SB3: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73546 To determine what IR codes are being generated, you can boost the logging level for IR codes to INFO via the web UI. Each time you press a key on the remote, an entry will be created in the log file telling you what IR code was generated. You can then use this information to change it's behavior in the .ir and/or .map files. Hope that helps you out. -- maggior Rich - Setup: 2 SB3s, 4 Booms, 1 duet, 1 receiver. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Use your DirecTV Remote with your Squeezebox
I discovered last night that the remote with my newest DirecTV box is an RC64. It looks almost exactly like the RC32. The only difference appears to be some of the labelling on the buttons. I programmed in the code 20623 in it and it worked just like the RC32. On another note, in the Custom.map file I disabled the "press and hold" functionality for the numeric keys. I realized after I posted the files that this isn't necessary. It's actually a residual change from a different approach I was taking initially. I don't personally use the "press and hold 1 to add to favorite 1", but if you do and you use these files, you'll want to remote the lines that say "1.hold = dead", "2.hold = dead", etc. If any interest is shown in this, I'll update the files in this thread and I'll be happy to work with anybody that wants it to work a little differently. [SlimDevices: Plugins] Use your DirecTV Remote with your Squeezebox
I recently purchased a Boom for our bedroom which places an SB3 (aka Classic) and a Boom in the same room. This brings about the problem of controlling one squeezebox and not affecting the other. As many of you are aware, the way to handle this is to configure one of the squeezeboxes to use the JVC DVD player control IR codes. I don't own any universal remotes or JVC DVD players, but I do have DirecTV. The remotes that I have for my boxes are programmable. So, rather than add a remote, I decided to try to get my DirecTV remote to work with my squeezebox. I got something to work that I have found useful. I think others may find this useful too, so I thought I'd post my files. It occurs to me as I write this that this could be useful with Booms as well since it's remote has limited functionality. Before I describe how to set this up, let me explain how the remote is laid out as I've set it up. You will see that it isn't exactly the most intuitive layout. This is largely because many of the buttons on the remote are not active when AV1 or AV2 is selected. Other buttons will only control your TV no matter what mode is selected. For this reason, the volume up/down, channel up/down, mute, and prev buttons don't work when controlling another device, so they couldn't be used here. Here is the mapping of the buttons: DTV.SB Equivalent = PWR.POWER PAUSE...PAUSE RWNDREW REPEAT..VOL Down STOPSTOP NEXTVOL Up FFWDFWD PLAYPLAY EXITBRIGHTNESS MENUNOW_PLAYING ARROW UPARROW UP ARROW RIGHT.ARROW RIGHT ARROW_DOWN..ARROW DOWN ARROW_LEFT..ARROW LEFT SELECT..ADD 1...FAVORITES 2...SLEEP 3...SEARCH 4...BROWSE 5...SHUFFLE 6...REPEAT 7...NOW PLAYING 8...SIZE 9...BRIGHTNESS A quick note on the button names. The "REPEAT" button is the one in between the rewind and stop buttons. The "NEXT" button is the one in between the stop and fast forward buttons. Unfortunately, the buttons GUIDE, ACTIVE, LIST, BACK, and INFO are not active on the DTV remote when set to an AV mode. This is why only EXIT and MENU are used in my mapping. The rational behind the number key layout is that the bottom 3 rows of buttons on the SB candy bar remote are mapped to the top 3 rows of number keys on the DTV remote, except for 2. This is where the 0 would be on the candy bar remote. I mapped this to the oddball button of sleep. If you look at the two remotes and examine the mapping, you will see what I mean. I chose to do the number key mapping because I only use the number buttons when performing searches (which is actually rare). Even though I've overridden the functionality here, they will continue to work in this way when in search mode. I have not done any other testing of the number buttons. OK, now for the nitty gritty details. The DTV remote model that I have is the RC32. I believe this to be pretty common. I also am running Linux, so the files are Linux format. If you are a Windows user, these will most likely work. When editing them, use an editor that can edit Linux files. Wordpad can handle this. I am also running 7.3.3 of squeezecenter. I don't know how this will work on the current 7.4.x lines. 1) Program your DTV remote - Slid the AV switch on top to AV1 or AV2 - Press mute and select at the same time and wait for the light to flash 2 times. - enter the code 20623 2) Copy the files from the attached archive (Custom.map and dtv_jvc_dvd.ir) to the directory /usr/share/squeezecenter/IR 3) Using the web UI, go to the settings of the player you wish to control with your DTV remote. Use the dropdown to get to the "remote" settings. Check the box "dtv_jvc_dvd". Uncheck "Slim_Devices_Remote" and "jvc_dvd" if you want to control the squeezebox exclusively with the DTV remote. For "Remote Button Functions", select "custom". 4) Restart squeezecenter with the command /etc/init.d/squeezecetner restart. The remote should now be functional. As a quick test, press the PWR button on the DTV remote with the AV slide switch set to the appropriate setting. This should power your squeezebox on and off. For windows and Mac users, you need to program the DTV remote the same way. Search for the IR directory and put the files there. Start and stop squeezecenter however you normally do for your environment. If you find this useful, great! Let me know if you have any suggestions. Enjoy! +---+ |Filename: DTV_Remote_IR.zip| |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attach

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] ANNOUNCE: Moose 0.71 (win frontend)
The announcement caught my attention today and I thought I'd give Moose a try. It is really awesome I have to say. I was really surprised at how easy it was to get going in my configuration. My server is running on Linux and it password protected and I don't use the default port address - all of these things were handled well by Moose. My daughter is 5 and is just starting to learn to read. She is quite adept at using a computer already and regularly browses websites like Disney, Sprout, and Nick Jr. Seeing the artwork navigation of Moose got me thinking that this would be a great UI for her to use to select music on her Boom! And it is. To allow her to navigate, all I have to do is select the "kiddie" genre so that only the covers from that genre are shown and adjust the size as appropriate for her. Fantastic! The issue is that when Moose is exited, restarted, and the cover view is gone back to, it reverts back to showing the covers for the entire library. It would be nice if changes made in the selected genre in the cover view persisted. Again, an amazing application! -- maggior Rich - Setup: 2 SB3s, 3 Booms, 1 duet, 1 receiver. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] MusicIP Problem
Where the cache goes is dependent on your home directory, which depends on what user you are logged in as. The "user" which starts the daemon during reboot will not be the same as the user when you are starting it when you log in. I got bit by this. The directory it is in is a hidden directory (.MusicMagic). This may be why your are not finding it. Mine is in /root/.MusicMagic. I'm using SuSE, so the startup script thing is different. I log in as root when I make changes to my system. I have my startup script setup to force the home directory to be "root" when the music IP server is started: export HOME="/root" startproc -u root /usr/MusicIP/MusicMagicMixer/MusicMagicServer start Looking at the ini file, I guess you can dictate this with settings there, but you haven't set those either. I use the method above and it worked for me. I also wonder if the NAS is mounted prior to your script running. That could be problematic too. -- maggior Rich - Setup: 2 SB3s, 1 duet. Thanks for this wonderfully simple solution. You also have to ensure that there are no spaces at the end of the string. This prevented it from working for me the first time. This implies that it isn't the enforcement of policy by TWC has messed up this plugin, but the fact that they added a new parameter to the interface. In light of this, does it make sense to redirect the plugin to use another weather service? Personally, I'd rather stick with something that has been working for me for a long time. Thanks to all for the effort to get this plugin working again!! :-). -- maggior maggior's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9080 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21989 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: New WeatherTime Screensaver adds graphical forecasts
I just got this email too. How do they know that it is being used on a wired/wireless device? I was going to change my profile to "desktop" rather than "other", but I don't see how that will help. "Other" doesn't mean "wireless". And if it is a desktop app (i.e. not a webpage), how do they expect to validate that the presentation is correct? I'm just going to let it ride and see what happens. It almost seems like some sort of scare tactic - in the email it says you "may or may not be in compliance with the terms". I guess it all depends on how the programmatic validation works and if the squeezebox plugin will pass it. Technically, I guess it shouldn't pass, but can they make that determination programatically? We'll all see on May 6th. -- maggior maggior's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9080 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21989 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes update not updating
For what it's worth, I figured out my problem. The plugin uses the full path name to do the match. In iTunes, my music appears to be in g:\music\rock\Beatles..., but my Linux machine where SlimServer is running, the directory is /media/music/rock/Beatles... By doing a global search and replace on /media to g:\, the problem goes away. I guess if my share was from the root directory, it wouldn't be an issue, but that's not how I want my mapping to be set up. I'll just have to automate the global search and replace somehow. -- maggior maggior's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9080 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32203 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iTunes update not updating
I'm having the same problem. My configuration is that I'm running SlimServer on a SUSE Linux machine. Because of this, I'm using the method of running the Perl script on the Windows machine periodically to update iTunes. I don't have the output to post, but in the output of the script running on Windows, it shows the cadidates for the songs it found in the iTunes database. The song that was played is listed as one of the canidates, yet it fails to match. Looking at the output, I can't see why it wouldn't match. It then concludes that the song wasn't found and no update is performed. On my SUSE box, the iTunes_Update.txt file is created in a Samba share which I access directly on my Windows machine that has iTunes. Any ideas? I don't know why this won't work. I'm using a version of the plugin that I downloaded last week. [SlimDevices: Plugins] Re: last.fm - can't create new stations or view them on website
Duh! The answer (in case anybody else has the same problem) is that the stations are created within slimserver in the settings for the plugin. Off the main page, you click on last.fm under Internet Radio. -- maggior maggior's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9080 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31701 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
[SlimDevices: Plugins] last.fm - can't create new stations or view them on website
I've been enjoying Pandora over the past couple of weeks and decided to compare the stations I created with ones on last.fm. I've used last.fm before and had a few stations set up. When I log into the website, I cannot see the stations I had created. Same thing with the last.fm player. But, with my squeezebox, I can still see the stations I created. I also cannot create new stations. Am I missing something? Did they move it on the website? Did this functionality become part of the subscription service ($3/month)? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
