I closed the repository as no new updates will follow from my side.
All packages remain avalaible via 'sourceforge'

If a packages is stopped the ports are still claimed by that package.
You have to uninstall the LMS package in Package Center to be able to
use them for your Docker container.
Ports can only be claimed once! Port 9000 is not in use by any package
on your Syno, remember Synology LMS uses port 9002.

yes, I have dsm7 running on my test server. It will stop LMS, and in

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] LmsUpdate and LmsRepack - Synology 8.0.* packages

2020-12-09 Thread pinkdot

Hi Michael,

I doubt someone will get it right in the end. As Johan already pointed
out, Synology doesn't use standard build Perl.
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=959000
Also testing all arch will be difficult as testers are hard to find for
some archs.

Minor issue but worth mentioning: major updates like these split the
Syno users in 2 groups, they who don't updated and those who do.
Meaning, this will double the amount of work to please everyone.

And to be honest: I doubt its worth the hassle to even try to keep LMS
alive on the Syno:
there are very good (or even better) alternatives to run LMS, like RPi,
Picore as you alway say ;-).

Greetings,

Martin

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] LmsUpdate and LmsRepack - Synology 8.0.* packages

2020-12-08 Thread pinkdot

Synology released their beta version of DSM7.0 today. This is good and
bad news at the same time. The good news is that your Syno will receive
the long waited update to DSM7.0!
The bad news is that (as expected) Synology updated Perl from 5.24 to
5.28, meaning that running LMS with the current LmsUpdate packages is
not possible, and updating CPAN (part of LMS) to 5.28 also very
unlikely. It's atleast a task I'm not going to take on.

So, I'm sorry to say: but it ends here for me. (You might see 1 more
update before christmas.)

Thanks for your support and feedback over the years. Please keep using
LMS in whatever form there is available, and keep enjoying your music!

Greetings,

Martin

Most of the times clearing your browser cache will solve the issue. You
can check if the default interface is working correctly by adding
'Default' after de port number : :9002/Default/

Perl is used by several packages in DSM, like Mailserver and LMS (and
probably more). Synology can decide to make package updates mandatory in
some cases. If this will be the case for Perl? I don't know! We'll see.
But in my opinion it would be a bad idea to stop updating DSM (and Perl)
because of this and not to look at alternatives (like a Rpi4).

Thank for your kind words, but your feedback and an occasional 'thank
you' is more than enough.

Because Synology uses patched cpan modules and stopped maintaining lms,
the future of lms on your Syno is uncertain. An update of perl will
almost certainly mean the end of lms on synology for most architectures.
With the current version of perl being over 8 years in use, I expect an
perl update sooner rather than later.

I will take another look when I find some time.

TBH, I didn't think it's only a script. What is the 'trusted' value if
anybody can sign his or her package this way?

Not that I know of. I don't use the Synology tool chain to compile the
packages.

It is indeed more or less a 'remove and install'. We don't have
incremental updates.

The privilege handling changed with DSM6 but was never merged into the
LMS package because there was no reason for it. In DSM6 the previous
privilege handling was still allowed. It doesn't surprise me that it
might become mandatory in DSM7.
I will not adapt LMS for DSM7 on this point. So let's hope it is only a
'preview' issue. For more information: Synology documented the
privilege settings in the developers guide.->

Don't install LmsRepack if you have Logitech Media Server installed!

LmsRepack is only for those who have LmsRepack installed.

The update notification will be only on the package you have installed.
So you will be prompted when a new version of Logitech Media Server is
available.

It might have to do with a mistake I make in the sublistings of the
architectures of the 920,720,420 and 220 Nas. I had it under x86_64 but
it needed a different sublisting: geminilake.

If this solves your issue, it also will solve Jacobs.

Thanks for your feedback.

No, not on this end. There are no issues in the repo self test, the
DS720+ is also in the device list.

Do you have other active repo's, like synocommunity? If not, try adding
the 'synocommunity repo' (https://synocommunity.com/#easy-install) and
see if this repo has the same issue/ or is working.

Preferred installation is by adding the repo to DSM Package Center. If
you still want to install the package manually, use the packages on

Sorry, if all info in threads was a bit confusing, installing LMS
changed over the last months.

Forget about LmsRepack if you do a fresh install of LMS. Just follow the
first steps of the first post, which basically tells you to add the repo
URL to Package Center and install Logitech Media Server like any other
package.

You need at least 1 player somewhere in your network, on a PC, official
Logitech hardware, or a Raspberry with squeezelite. There is no option
to add a client like squeezelite to your nas AFAIK.

Do you still use the PS audio streamer?

Just for a test I added spotty to LMS, but had almost no effect on ram.
You can check yourself by disabling all plugins to see what the ram
usage of LMS 8 is. I doubt it is higher than any previous release.
Activate the plugins one by one and see which plugin causes the increase
in ram usage.

What version of LMS are you using and what client? Are files transcoded
during streaming?
My DS718+ uses about 200/300mb depending on transcoding or not
(slimserver around 210mb). Perl service adds another +/- 100mb.

Hi Beppe,

No issues here, you might want to check permissions of the subfolders.
Make sure they inherit permissions from the root folder.

I don't use docker, but there are some threads here on the forum. This
is one of them:

Tbh, never understood why some use docker for lms if there is a native
package available.

Hi Claus,
Correct, you don't need to install LmsRepack (this is also Logitech
Media Server but installed in a different system directory on your nas
and uses port 9000 instead of 9002.)

If you see an update of LMS in DSM Pakage Center, it is an update for
your current install. You won't loose any settings! Mind that LmsUpdate
= Logitech media Server. So, you're not switching packages, just
updating it

The new packages are indeed not signed. You have to set the trust level
to 'all publishers'
In Package Center: go to ->settings -> General -> set trust level to
'any publisher'.

What was already 'announced'

removed the packages from the DSM Package Center.

OK, thanks for the info.
If you would test one more package that would be great! Download a new
copy of the package here: https://pinkdot.myds.me/sspks/?arch=rtd1296
You can install this package over the current install.
Please report back here.
If it runs, Great!
If it also fails: just install
LogitechMediaServer-armv8-8.0.0-1588308753, we need more time to figure
out what is going on. Thanks for testing!

Sorry to hear its not working for you.
Unfortunately I can't test all packages for all archs. I own a DS115 and
a DS718+, the latest package installed without issue (v8.0.0-1590897265)
as an upgrade over the previous version, and as a clean install.
Apparently this does not guaranty a smooth install for everyone.

About the failing package:
- Did it install OK and is it not starting, or did the installation
fail?
- What is the package version you tried to install?
- Did you set the Trust Level to Any Publisher in the Package Center
Settings?

Thanks for the info.

Thanks, but this might just be an error on my side. With the CPAN
changes I have to compare the previous build and the new source. I just
compared CPAN versions, and I missed some of them. That might be causing
the issue with some architectures.
If this is not solving the issue, I'lll let you know.

Does LMS still needs a long time to become active after a restart?

The package center informs you about the installed version, and the
newest version. The installed version should show 8.0.0-1588308753. The
newest version always shows the latest version of Synology, 7.7.6 (if
you have the beta channel activated it will show 7.9.1).

I have no such information. As far as I know all nas from DS*13 and up
will get the DSM upgrade. See also website 'Marius Bogdan'

After Synology pulled LMS from the Package Center, I expect that
LmsUpdate can be added to the Package Center. If so, you will be
notified if an update is available like any other package. For this to
work, you have to add my repo to the Package Center settings.

In LMS there are several CPAN modules and their version should be in
line with the version of the installed Perl. If Synology updates, you
would run in all sorts of issues, or LMS woundn't even be able to start.
IMO it isn't worth the hassle to see if it is possible to get LMS up and
running after a Perl update. There are some reasonable alternatives ;-)

We will see what happens on the 1st of July. Worst case: Synology
planned a Perl update, and won't update LMS anymore because of that. If
they don't update Perl on the 1st of July, we still have at least half a
year before they do (if they do).

Its more a dependency issue and a script probably wont help us. We seem
to have 'patched' CPAN, currently provided by Synology. If Synology
decides to update Perl this might be the end of LMS on Synology. But I
doubt they will update Perl this year.

The LMS version check was set at 7.9 as the maximum version in the
previous versions of the plugin. This is now set to 8.* in the 1.03
version. Which will let you install it in LMS 8.0.0.
If you don't have any issues, there is no reason to update (but it won't
do you any harm either ;-)

Add the following location to the Additional Repositories at the bottom
of the plug-ins page in LMS:

Hi Klaus-Peter,

I have no plans to add more architectures in the near future.
'The End-of-Life announcement made by Synology at the end of last year'
will also make the continuation of LmsUpdate, after 30 June, uncertain.
At least till 1 July, I will only update the x86_64 package ( which
represents 80% of all donwloads). For all other architectures, your best
bet is to look for other solutions to run the package (e.g. RPi) if you
want to start using LMS 8.0.0.

However, you might still see the updater prompting that a 'newer'
package is available.

More or less, yes. I've both running and this is a way to keep them
apart.

After Logitech Media is removed from the Package Center by Synology, we
may discuss which name we are going to use.

I would advice you to stick with LmsUpdate. Things might change for the
better after Synology pulls the plug. After Logitech Media Server is
removed from the Package Center, I might be able to add LmsUpdate to the
Package Center. It is already in the same repo as LmsRepack, but
currently blocked by Synology.

For me, installing and updating packages using Package Center is also
the prefered way. That's why LmsRepack is there. Nevertheless, there are
probably more reasons why someone should install LmsUpdate ;-)

I wouldn't use commandline to copy some folder from one location to the
other.
For instance: Server.prefs has several absolute paths to the install dir
of the package. So you have to edit the server.prefs file, and may be
some other stuff. There's no 'easy way' to migrate settings, and,
indeed, no way within DSM.

Good question, I will add a more detailed description to the first post.

If you have already LmsUpdate running or the official package from
Synology: always use LmsUpdate for updating the current installation.

Only install LmsRepack if you starting to use Logitech Media Server and
want Package Center take care of notifying and installing the package by
adding the repo.

Migrating settings between LmsUpdate and LmsRepack is NOT possible! The
both are installed in different directories, and have their own
settings, plugins, database e.g.

Running both LmsUdate and LmsRepack at the same time is NOT possible.
You have to stop one package to be able to install and run the other!

I'll make a note in the first post. (After July I might be able to

If you're running LmsUpdate, yes! You ca simple install it as an update
over the current installation. It will not be installed as a new app.
