2014-07-17 Thread mcdudeabides

I posted over in the Vortexbox forum as well, but I was hoping that
someone might have seen something similar on a vanilla Linux/LMS
install. I have a Linux box (vortexbox) set up with LMS and a local
player using squeezelite to a single output (default green) on the local
sound card. I also have the Spotify plugin set up and running. If I
select the local player alone, I am able to use Spotify to send a stream
to the local output. If I attempt to syncronize in an old SBR or a
piCorePlayer (squeezelite on RPi), then the stream stops and I get the
following error:

Definitely using the 3rd party Triode app. Also made sure that original

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2014-07-15 Thread h_asendorf

Sorry if this has been answered a couple of times before.
I tried finding solutions to it but potentially I used the wrong
keywords.
(and especially this thread is simply too big to go through)

Due to two very nasty (but obviously common) problems
- Search results in the official plug in show a lot of not playable
tracks (not available in your region)
- Playlists created in spotify all of a sudden disappeared from the
official spotify plugin or reported a Bad Gateway 502 - error.

I just uninstalled the normal spotify plugin and installed the 3rd
party version of triode.

Basically this plugin works as I would have expected the official one to
do.
- Search results show playable tracks
- Playlists are available and can be used.

BUT. I am not able to play different Spotify songs on my different SBs
devices at the same time.
- I can start one album on one SB - it will play.
- I can stop the first SB and start another album on the second SB - no
problem
- I can sync the second to the first SB and listen to the same spotify
source at the same time - also no problem (that is actually also not
working with the official logitech SB plug-in) - Nice !
- However, when the first SB plays album A and then I start the second
SB to play album B both SBs will play perfectly for a short time.
Then the first SB will stop in the middle of the current song. It will
take a couple of seconds until it starts to play the next track of the
current album.
At this point of time the same thing will happen on the second SB.

So it looks as if - with triode's plug-in - each SB opens a connection
with spotify with the credentials entered in the plug-in settings.
As spotify only allows one login per account at one time, you are logged
out once somebody is logging in with the same credentials.
So in the scenario described above, it looks as if the two SBs are
constantly causing each other to be logged out and then directly log in
again.

I don't know why this should happen with triode's plug in while it does
not with the official spotifiy plug in ?
Apart from that problem, the triode plugin would be perfect for me.

The problem is that my kids have their SB radios in their room and they
can also use spotify. So if I am listening to spotify in the living room
and they start something in their room - none of us can enjoy it.

If the reason is the licence question with spotify - the question to me
would be why this is not the case with the logitech plug in and (if
Triode's approach is to stick more to the licensing restrictions) why it
is then only possible to enter one set of credentials in the app.

In order to play back different spotify sources at the same time you
would then have to set up one set of credentials for each different
squeezebox.

Or am I simply doing something wrong ?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2014-07-07 Thread TheCreat

I just wanted to report back, I know it's been a while. I was one of
those that had a lot of crashes of the helper app under windows.
It's not that I've given up or something, but for no reason the crashes
stopped after my last post. I didn't even update to any
experimental/test versions yet, and I've only manually updated to the
newest release via LMS control panel just now.

So I have no clue as to what might've changed, near as I can tell
nothing has. The one thing I was a bit surprised by was that I got
curious just now (before catching up with this thread, since about June
20th) and checked the spotify settings in LMS and I've noticed that
helper app logging was 'off', even though the last I've set it to was
'debug streaming'. Could the fact that logging got turned off somehow (I
did restart the server once or twice) be a solution to some of these
crashes? It would explain why the log doesn't really show any obviously
related error about the crash? So possibly something depending on the
log level?

Well, for now I'm not gonna turn logging back on since everything seems
to be running smoothly. So ain't gonna touch anything unless it breaks
again :D

As a side note, I tried checking for the version of spotifyd.exe after
the update, but the field isn't set (when you do right-click --
properties in explorer, going to the Details-tab). I then noticed that
you meant to check the log for the version (where it's printed nicely).
Might be an idea to add that, and it should be rather trivial in VS
anyway, shouldn't it?

very simple actually

1. yes, you need premium subscription
2. You must be using Logitech Media Server (LMS) running on local
PC/Mac/NAS
3. in LMS, go to settings, tick show all 3rd party plugins, hit apply
4. Then find 3rd Party Spotify Plugin (note, alphabetically it is at
the top under numbers, NOT under Spotify), tick it, then APPLY and
restart LMS when asked
5. When you go back into LMS, then LMS Settings, go to the plugin tab,
find Triode's 3rd Party Spotify plugin, to the right, click on Settings
for this plugin, then enter your Spotify premium login credentials.
6. Now all should just work. Go back to main LMS page and either under
myapps or Radio menu find Spotify and use it.

(works nicelyI use it often)

Can you check the version of spotifyd.exe - it should be 2.3.4 if it is
the latest one which is included in the plugin update. I have had a
report than Norton may view this as a virus so can you confirm if you
run this and if it has flagged and quarantined the new one?

I did the upgrade remotely via the web interface so was not aware of
what Norton might have been doing. Have copied the new spotifyd.exe into
appropriate location using Teamviewer and behold Norton does regard it
as a threat and quarantined it. Having told Norton to restore the file

Does Norton give you a contact to report viruses and non viruses to - I
have upgraded the compiler since the previous version (Microsoft VC
Express 10), but other than that I there are no really significant
changes in this version, so it looks like we need to report this to
Norton.

I've just had the same experience with Norton after enabling the plugins
after clearing the cache folder. Norton flashes up a warning that it is
taking action, but the warning is only onscreen for a few seconds, so it
is easy to miss if you aren't at the PC.

Hi, I have the same issue that the upgrade of the spotify plugin removed
the spotifyd.exe (and other files?) from my computer. After reinstalling
it with the file from this thread (in the squeezebox/server folder) it
is there but it will not start as mentioned Before. I also have Norton
Internet Security of the latest version and can confirm that
deactivating the smart firewall does not solve the issue

My humble conlusion is that it is not Norton but the new version of the
plugin that is the problem. Love the plugin and hope it is solved soon!

I believe it is norton antivirus not the firewall which is the problem -
if you look in the quarantined files then you probably find it? Just
disabling the firewall after the install wont put the the file back if
Norton has removed it!

Agree - the file is removed from C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application
Data\Squeezebox\Cache\InstalledPlugins\Plugins\Spotify\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
and quarantined. If you put another copy there that gets removed too.
You need to tell Norton IS to accept the file and restore it.

I will try Triode's link and report it.

Well, that is the track that works, so there should not be a problem...
Or do you mean you don't see a problem with the other logs, too?

OK, I did what I probably should have done a day ago and rebooted the
server. I hate to do this because I use it as an application server for
a bit of stuff and it always takes half an hour or so of work during
which I pretty much can't do anything else and I'm never confident that
everything will run correctly after the reboot (rightly so, UEML
mysteriously needed an update to run this time, no idea why it worked
before the reboot).

Anyway, this seems to have fixed the issue, I'm now successfully
streaming Spotify to my Boom again. Still weird. Will report back
whether it persists.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2014-06-20 Thread pippin

Hi, I've got some really weird issue with the plugin
I can't play on any of my ip3k players anymore. The first track shows
buffering 1% then hangs.

The only real difference I can see from the logs are the different
buffer sizes used with setsockopts. Could it be that OSX doesn't support
these large buffer sizes? Why does the plugin use different buffer sizes
for ip3k players and SqueezePlay/iPeng?

The weird thing is that both the players and the plugin seem to
otherwise work fine. That is: I can play all kind of other material on
the players and if I use iPeng as a player I can play Spotify just fine.
If I sync an ip3k player with iPeng music stops immediately when I power
on the ip3k player as soon as I power it off iPeng plays on. I can sync
two iPengs and it will work fine. I can fully use Touch or Radio as
well.

Plugin version is 2.3.6, the LMS version is 7.8.0 (the release) on OSX
Mavericks.

This only started recently.

Thanks Pippin - I think you've helped me find a bug

Recent versions had the requested socket send buffer increased
significantly due to problems with recent linux kernels which changed
how they manage tcp in some way. However it looks like only the first
client connecting in a sync group got updated. (This explains why this
fix doesn't work for sync on linux).

For your case on OSX - can you play to each player individually if sync
is disabled? I am not aware of the larger setting causing a problem on
osx, but I am testing on 10.6. For reference this is the code producing
that debug line:

Code:

  void set_sndbuf(sockfd s, int size) {
int sndbufsize = size;
socklen_t len = sizeof(sndbufsize);
setsockopt(s, SOL_SOCKET, SO_SNDBUF, (const void *) sndbufsize, len);
getsockopt(s, SOL_SOCKET, SO_SNDBUF, (void *) sndbufsize, len);
LOG_DEBUG(setsockopt: asked for %d got %d, size, sndbufsize);
  }

Do you see any reason for this not working with OSX with the larger
value (which should be used for all clients not just the first to
connect)

No, as I wrote: sync has nothing to do with it, I only did that for
diagnostics purposes. ip3k players never work, other always do unless
they are synced to an ip3k player.

Yes, and I checked again, as you wrote, the different buffer size is
only being set for synced players which are not the master.
However, iPeng and SqueezePlay still work even with the big buffer so
setsockopt is probably not what's causing the trouble here.

Are they wireless connected - the local network demand for spotify to
these players is high due to use of flac and less use of the player
buffer than streaming local files, but that would be the same as
streaming to iPeng. If you enable stream debugging do you see the
stream stalling rapidly in the log?

Some wired some wireless. All the ones that work are on WiFi so that's
probably no it.

Here comes the fun part. If enable Debug Streaming it starts to work!
This is fully reproducible: I disable Debug Streaming - No fun on
ip3k players. Enable Debug Streaming - plays fine.
So something changes when I use that setting...

I don't understand that... That setting has some extra vfprintf and
gettimeofday calls in it, but other than that is just writing text to
stderr... Does it work if you make the logfile /dev/null in the config

Next to the binary with .conf on the end. It gets recreated by the
server every time it starts the binary, so start the server kill the
binary and restart after editting.

This is really strange though.. :(

Sorry no - its on the command line for spotifyd, so check what it is
running as, kill it and restart it manually should work with /dev/null.

There's also a fflush call in there for the logging so wondering if this
is just slowing it down a bit...

I've not changed anything recently other than the sock option for
sendbuf size. Has this only started recently?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2014-06-20 Thread pippin

Seems to work with logging to /dev/null, too.

I tried different log levels, too. Some work, some don't:

Debug Stream - works
Debug - doesn't work
Info - often works
Warn - unreliable (sometimes works, sometimes doesn't; retrying several
times usually makes it work, eventually)
Error - doesn't work
Off - doesn't work

Even Info is not 100% reliable, though. Only Debug Stream is.
This was now all tested with /dev/null logging.

And yes, this only started recently.

Another hint: the last track I played will still work when I set a
different log level. So if I play a track with Debug Stream and then
change the log level I can't start other tracks but if I try to restart
the last one that worked it will still play.

Timing sounds like a reasonable cause.

That's all really strange as the same code is used for all with the
verbosity level increasing higher up your list (as you would expect for
logging statements) So I don't see why debug doesn't work and info
does. I'll review the code to look for anything strange though - this
is all with 2.3.3?

Next test version of spotifyd - please could testers try this one and
see if it helps sync on linux, gapless playback and other stuttering
issues.

Contains:
1) spotifyd - 32 bit linux version
2) spotifyd64 - 64 bit linux version
3) spotifyd-mac - mac version - you need to rename this to spotifyd
4) Spotifyd.exe - windows version

16089

Pippin - could you test on your mac - it has been running for me with
two ip3k players synced ok on osx 10.6.8

I'm trying to narrow down a few patterns of the crash. For me it
appears to be crashing almost exactly ten minutes after track in the
playlist. My last messages in the log file:

And then at 9:45:40 I see the crash in my Windows event viewer:

That's interesting - there's a 10 minute idle timeout in the code which
means it will log out of spotify after being idle for 10 minutes.

To help debug, could you find the spotifyd.exe.conf file and manually
edit the loglevel: entry to be TRACE - this should create a file called
tracefile which logs all the calls to libspotify. Interested what
this says when it crashes for the last calls made.

Thanks for the reply, Triode.

I'm trying to change that log setting to TRACE but it seems to want to
get overwritten to the setting in the plugin's web UI every time
Spotifyd.exe spins up (or when I restart squeezebox server). I have
streaming debug turned on in the UI and I'm getting lots of stuff in the
spotifyd.log file, but I'm not seeing a .trace file. Any other hack to
get that TRACE flag started?

I reverted back to the main release (not that test release you had a

Actually looks like it will be the main the logfile .trace not the
filename tracefile. Do you see additional entries in the logfile when
you start this way or a new .trace file?

(Edit for clarity: I'm on the last stable version, not the beta-release
from a few pages back.)
I've also switched this on. There is this message saying where it will
log to, but the file never appears (no filename containing 'trace'
exists anywhere in the programdata\squeezebox directory after playing a
few tracks):

Code:

[22:55:52.707] main:469 tracefile:

It might be that it's just added in the normal spotifyd.log. After
starting playback on a 407 track long list, I get about 2k lines of
this:

Code:

I didn't get the filename in the main spotifyd logfile that TheCreat saw
in his (I reverted up to the pre-release version of spotifyd that Triode
posted a few days ago). I also rebooted the machine altogether since I
managed to break things altogether.

I made it through one song and then let it sit for ten minutes - this
time I did NOT get the crash. I'll keep trying a few things on various
non-sync'd players and see if I can get it to crash again.

I downloaded the new version and I can confirm that I'm still getting a
regular crash of spotifyd.exe. The faulting module is always
libspotify.dll - is that a 3rd-party DLL developed separately from
spotifyd.exe? I wonder if there is a newer version of that DLL that a
guy could try out.

Another thing that I noticed is that spotifyd.exe is maxing out one of
my four cores on my CPU. It is pretty much always 25%. I'll revert
back to the other DLL and see if that has similar behavior (maybe that's
normal...).

libspotify.dll is provided by spotify - latest version is here, but I
think I am using it...

It should not max one of your cpu cores - it should be very quiet. This
version does have another thread in it from the release version though
so you may see some more cpu activity. Can you diagnose what it is
doing? Also can you get a debug log from spotifyd.exe just before the
crash -is there any common activity before it crashes.

I also posted about it a few pages back or so. Unfortunately there
doesn't seem to be any activity that usually precedes a crash (that post
has a log attached). But rather notably, it usually crashes when no
music is being played anywhere (one Squeezebox Radio is connected, but
in standby). When I want to actually play something and it's stuck at
connecting This resolves itself once I RDP into the server and
click away the crash dialog, as the daemon is then restarted properly.

One idea I recently had: I often stop playback by tapping next track
or previous track and the power button immediately after. I do this
usually because I'm near the end of a track and want to start with the
next one when I turn back on, or because I want to hear the song again
that I just heard. Can anyone else with crashes confirm that as likely?
I only mention it because I noticed at least once after playback was
just fine and I stopped like that, that when I went back to my PC where
the RDP connection was open I saw a crash dialog, but obviously it was
fine a second ago.

Then again, I've also seen it suddenly crash while working on something
completely unrelated on the machine, and nobody was using anything LMS
related. I'll try to explicitly test for possible conditions though...

I've only tired one album, but that seems to have more or less fixed
gapless playback (thanks) - there is sometimes a very slight pop as the
track changes but I think that also happens with the Spotify app also.

2014-06-14 Thread DjTweed

My experience with 4 Radio's sync'd to a SB3 is that EVERYTHING works,
except the Triode Spotify plugin. It will play for a while, but
eventually it will start to pause, and skip to next song.

Once I removed the sync, and play ONLY on my SB3, I can listen to
Spotify for days.

Has anyone seen similar issues?

2014-06-14 Thread Triode

I would like to identify some testers for a new version of the help app.
I have attached a zip file with three versions:
1: spotifyd - a linux intel 32 bit binary
2: spotifyd64 - a linux intel 64 bit binary
3: Spotifyd.exe - a windows binary

If you are comfortable finding the old helper app and temporarily
replacing with this one I would be grateful of feedback.

The new version is intended to improve gapless playback. It may also
help with synchronisation, but I am less sure of this so would like some
feedback.

2014-06-13 Thread TheCreat

Hello!

First of all, thanks for a great plugin, but I do have one recurring
problem with it: the service/helper keeps crashing on me. That wouldn't
be much of a problem if the crash-dialog wouldn't prevent it from
restarting until I have clicked it away. It even crashes when nothing is
actually playing (though my Squeezebox Radio is on, but paused). The log
doesn't show any errors, but I've pasted the last few entries below
together with the crash report. Every line that has a spotifyd.exe
2.3.3 started was preceded by a crash, as you can see there wasn't much
going on before that.
If I can do anything to get you more detailed information on that, just
tell me how ;)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Spotify Premium Plugin (Beta)

2014-06-07 Thread paulster

I'm sure this might have been asked already, but is it possible to get
the 'Browse' functionality from the Spotify iOS app into the Squeezebox
app? Now that I've been forced to switch over to Spotify from MOG, I'm
missing the new releases menu on a Tuesday. I'm finding that I have to
browse the new albums using the iOS app, and then search for them in the
Squeezebox app or iPeng. It would be much neater just to be able to
browse them direct.

Two track 1's and no track 2 after a scan for new and changed? Please
