Database error - PowerMail will not open, need help

2009-11-21 Thread Winston Weinmann

After starting up my computer I launched PowerMail and my computer froze. Now
when I try to open PowerMail I get the message A database error occurred.
Clicking on More info gets me:
Class: DB; what=7; when=9

Then when I click OK PowerMail quits.

I am running PowerMail 5.5.3 build 4480, Mac OS 10.4.11.

I cannot remember any key combinations to get PowerMail to try to fix the
database, cannot find anything online and can't consult PM's help.

Is there a fix?

Thanks.

Hold command and option keys down upon launch.

You should get a database utilities dialog.

I select all the options other than those that mess with my preferences.

Knowing databases, I do the full low level rebuild and all options on my
data file at least once a month. It may sound paranoid considering I
have lots of backup, but having my email database messed up is not
something I want to experience again.

Your mail is probably safe. Try holding down the command and option keys
the next time you start PM. This brings up the option dialog to rebuild
various things. Check all of them, including the Low Level rebuild.
If this does not correct the problem, write back.

Hold down command (open-apple) and option keys when starting Powermail.
Check the first 3 boxes. If that doesn't work, do the low level rebuild.

Failing that, open your PM4 backup in PM4, export, and import into a new
database in PM5.

Hi all,

Although it appeared that my Norton problems were over i'm still having
issues.

Presently if I put my computer to sleep, wake up and Powermail crashes
(system inc). An fsck shows an Incorrect Block Count for Message
Database, Orphaned indirect nodes, etc. A low level rebuild is required
followed by rebuilding sort indexes.

Norton 8.0 run in Emergency mode now no longer provides a undo feature,
so i'm truly stuck.

Anyone have any ideas how I can sort this, am I going to need to buy
TechTool or other? If so which would be most suited to this problem? Any
ideas how I can fix my insomnia?

Many thanks,

I don't agree with this.
You can optimize (defragment) your volumes, repair data, get back trashed
data, check the system files and so on AND you can check your harddisk
and much more on the hardware side.

You misunderstood me.
For example, take one algo of copy protection which leaves a watermark on
a sector. When you try to optimize the volume, Norton runs fine by
ignoring it. They take it as a data. But TTP detects as a block error.
They used to repair it which of course damage the copy protection so the
application will not run anymore. Later they had to analyze the
signature of such so now TTP detects such, then it stops operation.
Since TTP Optimization runs on physical data, it cannot skip the sector
like Norton does.

I hope you understand the difference.

When Norton tries to repair, it asks if you want to create a Undo file.
This is important. Without this, you won't be able to undo the damage
Norton creates.

There is no single best tool exists. It is better to have them all.

- Norton is designed to do everything. The catch is, in order to do

I then found a file that was created in the PowerMail 4 Files directory
called
CTSTATUS.FCS In that it said..

Yes, I'd read that, too. Fortunately, I'd downloaded the full combo
updaters when they were available and saved them on my disk.

I had problems with the blue screen of sudden quit an restart all
 apps
in 10.2.6, so I went back to 10.2.5. It may have been my system though.

If I recall correctly, I did install the 10.2.6 upgrade and started
having problems which contributed to my decision to do a complete erase
and install of 10.2 followed by the 10.2.4 combo upgrade. But I'm still
having system-wide problems, so I may have to look elsewhere for those
causes.

It does seem a stretch that an OS problem would prevent me from opening
the PM database, but I don't know enough to eliminate that as a cause,
either.

Earlier today, PM 4.1.3 suddenly quit--a problem I've been having with
most of my apps lately along with far too many kernel panics. When I
restart PM, it tries to rebuild the sort indices and then quits about
one minute before completion with the error message above.

Well, I see you are on OS 10.2.4. And kernel panics mean something wrong
with more than PowerMail. May I suggest 10.2.5, which is a free upgrade
for download but ALSO has a CD which you can buy. It is a huge download
so don't try it on dial up. I sent for the CD and it was well worth it. A
WHOLE BUNCH of bugs are out of it.

It is recommended by many to only use Combo updaters also when doing
incremental updating, as some people discovered that they were not
affected by certain problems affecting a smaller percentage of users,
when they had used Combo updaters. This means the update is bigger of
course and should be downloaded on a steady connection or ordered on CD.

Database Error 7 post-Import in PM 3.1.3 (OS X)

2003-05-12 Thread Mikael Bystr

Is this a known bug in PM 3.1.3 under OS X (10.2.5):

If I import a Eudora mailbox (Made from Shapiros Export - Eudora script
for Emailer ) and then choose a label for the content and I following
that try to move the content to another folder, it stops somewhere midway
and I get a dialog stating:
Database error 7 (Record Not Found in DB) in 9
(DBGetRecord).
Low level error 0

At this point, one or several messages have been moved to the new folder.
Then typically, if I close the Browser and reopen, the messages I tried
to copy are not there anymore, but do have been moved to the new folder,
at least they are visible there. Other error symptoms at this point are
that the browser window doesn't update, but have to be closed and
reopened in order to show changes. If I try and move again, I get the
same error.

As this seem a serious error, I naturally do then a low level rebuild. I
see no light suitable alternatives. When this is finished *some* of all
the lately added imported folders are gone! No warnings. What kind of
rebuild is that? Is this as good as PM can be trusted? 2000+ messages go
just like that? Please tell me that this was a known bug that was fixed in v4.
