[Qgis-user] joining ms access to shapefile
Hi I'm new to qgis (I have some ArcMap experience) and I'm having problems joining a ms access database to a shapefile. I'm using windows 7 and ms office 2007. I tried to google the information about a join of access to shapefile but got more confused in the process instead. Can anyone please help and give me some pointers. RE: [Qgis-user] Google maps kml file won't open
When I save Google Earth polygons or lines and look at the file, the first point of the line or polygon has no coordinate and a phony projected coordinate. Check if that is an issue for you. I don't know why that happens on my system here, but a work around for me is to create a token first point and delete it then with a program like garmin dnr (it's free) in case of lines or in the case of polygons copy the last point into the space of the first point. I don't know if this is your issue, but again this happens regularly in my system if I save GE layers. An easy way to check is to open the kml in a text editor, it will be quite short and obvious if the actual x,y data is in the file. See http://sites.google.com/site/gmapstips/export-my-map-as-kml for more information. If this isn't the issue and the data is public and you can point us to a copy to test that would be great. RE: [Qgis-user] RE: joining ms access to shapefile
Thanks Koos, I seem to have a problem with the drivers. Looking at the ODBC Data Source Administrator I see the dBase Files, the Excel Files and the MS Access Database listed under User DSN, but when I try to configure them I get 2 messages. First "the setup routines for the Microsoft Access Driver could not be found. Please reinstall the driver" and the second "the specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the Driver and Application". I seem not to be able to set up a driver, but get stuck with empty choices in subsequent drop down lists Do you (or anyone else) please point me in the right direction to reinstall the drivers. The error messages show up for all three drivers installed. [Qgis-user] (no subject)
Hi, I have a hell of a time with the CRS of my project. I try to use google streets, openstreetmap and naip 2011 (a wms map) in the same project. I also have a shp file UTM 19 NAD 83 right now loaded to it. All layers are in different CRS and I loaded them with OTF enabled. After many tries I managed to sync all the layers and they displayed on top of each other at the right place. After I saved and reopened the project at a later time everything was displaying at the wrong place (meaning at it's original unprojected place). What do I miss here. How do I best work with layers in different CRS? Thanks for your help in advance Jake ___ Qgis-user mailing list Qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/qgis-user

RE: [Qgis-user] (no subject)
It looks now to me that all layers always loaded correctly. What seems to be the problem is that I cannot get Google Streets or OpenstreetMap to display. Both these layers were placed underneath the shp and the NAIP (WMS) maps. Turning off the NAIP layer should activate the Google Street map, which is directly under the NAIP layer and turned on, but I cannot get it to display. I turned the layer on and off, and checked and unchecked (repeatedly) the render button. But nothing happens. When I zoomed into the map, the complete google streets displays, which is odd because by zooming in it actually zoomed out. Maybe this is a bug? Michael, What about a route? String 100m lines together in a route, You even can tell the GPS when to notify you about the coming of a node which will be the beginning of a new line. Because it's nearly impossible to hit a 1X1m square with the GPS, (it will constantly move on you) I use this feature to let me know when I'm let's say 10 m from the point and then use a fixed amount of paces and the bearing to be fairly unbiased in locating the point. jake From: qgis-user-boun...@lists.osgeo.org [mailto:qgis-user-boun...@lists.osgeo.org] On Behalf Of Michael Spencer Sent: Saturday, March 10, 2012 5:02 PM To: QGIS Users Subject: [Qgis-user] GPS route Hi All, I'm trying to create a .gpx route along a straight line, but with a node ~100m. i.e. I have a transect and wish to survey every 100m. Yes, it is best to use the attribute table instead of messing around with Openoffice. RE: [Qgis-user] Forestry Week? (was Case sensitive)
I just started using QGIS. I used a conservation copy of ArcMap before. Now after a week or so on this list I can see that what I could do with ArcMap, I will be able to do with QGIS. Therefore, I'll be using QGIS for all my mapping needs. That is I will delineate all stands, join soil information from a USDA database to a soil polygons, draw lake and wetland buffers, and other basic mapping tasks. I hope to extend to incorporate more database information to the map like species density information and volume information. I guess about all information in forestry has a spatial component therefore may be and possibly should be incorporated in a GIS. For me that is a little work in progress. :) Jake -Original Message- From: Magnus Homann [mailto:mag...@homann.se] Sent: Tuesday, March 13, 2012 4:53 PM To: qgis-user@lists.osgeo.org; i...@locatepress.com; j...@jmforestry.com Subject: Re: [Qgis-user] Forestry Week? You, can however use custom forms, Spatialite and the Offline editing plugin, which can synchronize between a central Postgis data warehouse and spatialite for mobile workers. Postgis is also supported, but you would need a permanent network connection. It probably would need some real world testing, but it looks promising. You need at least a phone with a display size like the Samsung Galaxy Notes or a real tablet, like the Panasonic Toughpad. If you have specific questions, please contact Marco Bernasocchi directly or use http://hub.qgis.org/projects/android-qgis Hope this helps, Andreas BTW: in Switzerland there is a whole group of Forestry engineers that collaborate on the training of QGIS for forestry engineers and the development of tools. Thank you Andreas for your suggestion. I'll try the svg file later. The misalignment happens in the actual paper print out, on screen, and also when I export it to a jpg file. Again each time the legend is correct but on the actual map is misaligned and it looks like it's just the 90 degree turning of the individual parts that is not happening. Older QGIS versions (1.7 and below) did not show the print previews in the print composer with the correct scalings (the map extent was correct, but symbol sizes, line-widths and text sizes were not (usually drawn bigger compared to the print out)). I now managed to turn the move and rotate label on, but only to have all labels disappear when I assign the fields in data defined settings (I guess because of the initial value of 0). Using the insert feature in the table itself it will place a null in the cell. Unfortunately that's not the end of my questions on the issue. But there are far to many sections to do this by hand Any suggestions? If you're willing to work with spatialite, then you can do this with a query as follows: (Assuming you have a roads shape file, with columns "road_id", and "road_name") spatialite> .loadshp roads.shp roads LATIN1 4326 spatialite> CREATE TABLE roads_merged (road_id integer primary key, road_name text); spatialite> SELECT AddGeometryColumn('roads_merged', 'Geometry', 4326, 'MULTILINESTRING', 'XY'); spatialite> INSERT INTO roads_merged (road_id, road_name, Geometry) SELECT road_id, road_name, CastToMulti(GUnion(Geometry)) FROM roads GROUP BY road_name; The first line loads a shapefile into spatialite, with LATIN1 encoding and EPSG code 4326 (Lon/Lat WGS84) The second creates a new empty table for the merged roads, and the third makes this new table spatial, accepting geometry types MULTILINESTRING, and also EPSG 4326. The last line, the INSERT uses GROUP BY to merge the rows from the original table with the same road name. And the GUnion() function merges the line segment's geometry into MULTILINESTRING features. [Qgis-user] qgis has stopped working
Hi I get a message when I exit qgis that qgis has stopped working and windows is looking for a solution. Qgis is working correctly and everything seems working properly until I exit. Some are files I created and some are from others. I can be editing shapefile and it will crash, sometime but not always when saving. Here is a more bizarre example: Yesterday I went to add a polygon to an to an existing shapefile that I had worked on before. The add polygon process looked fine, it shows up in the attribute table, the calculated acreage is 0.004 acres when it should be 1.4 acres, and all the areas of the other polygons are OK. When I click zoom to selected rows from the attribute table it zooms to the entire polygon, but when I click the polygon on the map with the Information button there is nothing there. Then or any time in this process it may crash. This is on a map with some photos as base and a few other layers. So, I tried an experiment and opened a new QGIS project, opened the shapefile and was able to add a polygon with no problem. Then I closed the new project, opened the old project, and was able to open the edited polygon and update the properties, etc. With another project with some of the same layers I tried to make a new shapefile layer and went through all the steps, the layer was created, (all the basic files are visible in Explorer) but I could not actually create a polygon that was visible. So, I went to the simple "new project" (no rasters) described in the prior paragraph and was able to create a new layer and create the polygon I wanted. Saved that, then I could open it and see it with the old project. These issues seem to be getting more frequent. Even when I am able to create shapefiles and edit polygons I may get one to several crashes in a session. The plugin is called DigitizingTools and is planned to contain more tools in the future. I uploaded it to the plugin repository just now, feel free to give it a try and report any problems. It is marked as experimental (because it is not well tested right now) and only works with current master (aka QGIS 2). Re: [Qgis-user] hydro-flatenning process ?
John, Would TauDEM be helpful to show consequences of a dam removal project at the coast (of Maine), where the dam removal would create reversing falls and had consequences upstream for bridge foundations and wetlands (now freshwater then brackish to some degree)?
