I'd like to upgrade, though this is a live box with nearly 100 clients domains on it... When you use qtp-newmodel (part of qmailtoaster-plus) to do the upgrade, your toaster will be offline for 5-10 minutes or so max (depends on your processor and the number of packages being updated). All of the packages will have been built and installed in a sandbox (while the production server is still running), so there's really very little risk. Just make sure you have plenty of free disk space, unless your kernel can support the new unionfs, in which case you don't need much additional disk space at all. [qmailtoaster] Multiple Login Prompts/Sending Issues
Hi All, Wondering if anyone seen the following two symptoms separately or together (as we're seeing them): 1) Multiple login prompts when checking mail. 2) Users can send to other accounts in their virtual domain, but NOT to outside domains on the same toaster, or on outside servers. So far this is only affecting two vdomain's users out of 100+ on the box. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. [qmailtoaster] Per Virtual Domain Setting
This is a bit of an odd question, and I'm not sure if it can easily be done... Or maybe it's really easy and I'm just dumb. Anyway, I have a box hosting multiple virtual domains. I would like for just one of these domains to have a rule, whereby incoming SMTP connections to port 25 can ONLY be initiated from one IP specific address, and no other. This would normally be a simple iptables thing, were it not for the fact that this is a shared box. Any ideas? Re: [qmailtoaster] Per Virtual Domain Setting
The only way I can think of to do it would be to set up a separate IP address for the domain in question. I figured. Perhaps your solution isn't the best for the problem you're facing. What's the problem that this solution would solve? Some sort of security issue I'm guessing. Might a VPN be a way to handle your requirement? The situation is: One particular client, who, even in spite of anti-spam measures, for whatever reason, receives an unimaginably ridiculous amount of spam, has opted to use one of those third-party anti-spam relays. The way it works is, the MX for that domain is set to the SMTP servers of the third party, and then the messages are forwarded to my toaster, sans whatever percentage of spam. The issue is, even though the MXs are set to the third party's SMTP, many spammers still hit my toaster directly. Does that make sense? Hmm... Anyway, what it boils down to is, I just need to buckle down and bolster my own anti-spam measures. tangent Boy, email sucks. Sometimes, instead of trying to keep on bolting on new fixes, I think we need to scrap the entire system and build something new, from the ground up, designed for today's environment of misuse and distrust, rather than the environment of openness and community that the original email system was built for. /tangent :) Thanks for the response. -Josh - QmailToaster hosted by: VR Hosted http://www.vr.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[qmailtoaster] spamassassin upgrades can wipe out SURBL setup (and other plugins)
All, I noticed an increase in uri-type spam on one of my toasters for the past month or two. I was pretty sure I set up SURBL on my toaster roll-out, so I investigated. I am on spamassassin-toaster-3.2.4-1.3.13 version. Apparently, in the course of upgrading up to 3.2.4 (manually, because of perl dependencies on C4.x), an rpmsave file was created. This was probably a direct result of just 'me, being me', so you might not be affected. I do not spend any significant time doing administrative tasks that would have caught this change, obviously, like checking for rpmsave files and doing a diff. According to the wiki, which I helped document, we are loading plugins from the v310.pre file...that was an arbitrary, unresearched choice. From reading somewhere, possibly in the other pre files, spamassassin reads all pre files in /etc/mail/spamassassin, so I created a local.pre, added the plugin line, and qmail-spam stop/started, and SURBL is working again. The gist is: if you customize the plugins for spamassassin (uridnsrbl, pyzor, razor, etc.). do it in a local.pre file so that future SA upgrades will not wipe out your work. For the advanced-types who read this...you prolly already knew this. For the fledgling-types like me, here is a 'heads-up'. Thanks for the post. I also want people (myself included) to realize/remember that when certain packages are upgraded (to be specific, control-panel-toaster, spamassassin-toaster, and clamav-toaster older than version 0.90.1-1.3.11) the existing package is removed first, due to a problem with simply doing an upgrade. This can wipe out some customization that may have been done. It will definitely reset the password to control-panel-toaster (/admin-toaster web page). I don't remember if I included this bit in the wiki page on upgrading or not. If not, would someone be so kind as to add it? I've tried to limit the impact of doing package removals, but have been unable to nail down which versions of control-panel-toaster and spamassassin-toaster are problematic. RE: [qmailtoaster] How to upgrade
here do. I am most appreciative, especially the QMT-ISO project. I might not be running Qmail if not for it. I just personally don't have a lot of spare time to troubleshoot and do workarounds when I run into problems, and therefore waiting is best for me. I know it will be fixed eventally. For some weird reason, some folks seem to think that using something which others make available mean that there is no thank you, no appreciation, no return in one form or another. Most know that's not the case for if it were, open source projects would not exist at all. They exist because people do give back when they can, in one way or, another :). It sure beats hand-rolling one, and it's way more full-featured than any of my do-it-yourself jobs anyway! A real time saver. Re: [qmailtoaster] Multiple Login Prompts/Sending Issues
On Thu, 13 Mar 2008, Eric Shubert wrote: Hi Eric, Which client software? If it's Outlook, search the MS knowledge base. There's a fix involving a few registry keys. I've gotten more info from our two clients having trouble. This happens for them using outlook or other clients. 1) Multiple username/passwd prompts for both clients 2) One of the clients can't relay through the toaster, except to accounts in their own Vdomain on the box. 3) Neither of these clients had any problem at all with our older toaster; these problems started after we switched them to our newer toaster at the beginning of this week. Also, be sure they're using the correct password. vuserinfo will show you the cleartext pw. (This sounds too obvious, but I've seen it happen, and it revealed the problem above). What sort of error do they see? Please be more specific. In the case of the client that can't send, they get a 5.5.3 error; for the client getting multiple login prompts, the POP server rejected the password for the user@domain, please reenter your password or cancel I'm guessing that the domain's MX record may not be configured properly. Actually, since we control DNS, I can say that MX records are as they should be--pointing at the newer toaster. Again, many thanks for your help... --Duncan - QmailToaster hosted by: VR Hosted http://www.vr.org - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
