[qmailtoaster] Forward to a Different Server

I have a domain on my Qmail Server that I am migrating to another

Re: [qmailtoaster] Forward to a Different Server

The MX records are changed. Some of the users are still using the old
server for snmp and therefore their email goes into the accounts on the
old server. Qmailtoaster looks locally before hitting DNS, right?

Gilbert Gutierrez

Hi Gilbert,

I don't think you can do this with at least a small amount of down
time for the new domain, but...

In order to forward mail to the new server from the old ( I think
that's what you're asking) without removing the domain from your old
server you can comment out the migrated domain in
/var/qmail/control/virtualdomains, and put a route to it in
/var/qmail/control/smtproutes and restart qmail or reload qmail.
Please investigate to your satisfaction first. I tried this once on my
server and it worked.

Of course the domain must be created with all the users on the new
server in order for it to receive mail and for your IMAP (or POP)
clients to work. In order to sync the two hosts you can use unison,
rysnc, or scp. I've used all three. I use unison mostly, and here's a
link to it, which setup can be tailored for replication of only one
domain
(http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/QMT_Failover_replication_Setup).

How big is this domain?

I just saw your message and I do not know if you solved it or not.

I recently had an issue with my keys and Gmail. They increased the key
length requirement and mine were being rejected because of that. Below
is an article of this.

http://blog.returnpath.com/blog/ken-takahashi/google-doubles-down-on-weak-dkim-keys-what-you-need-to-do-now-to-be-compliant

After updating my keys to a longer length, I had to wait for google to
update their cache servers so that they saw the new key. I always make
sure the key can be seen by google's servers by querying 8.8.8.8 and
8.8.4.4 for the text record. Also, I had to verify that I was using the
correct selector in my signconf.xml (I created a new selector with the
new key so that I could use the shorter key until I saw that the new key
had propagated).

http://blog.returnpath.com/blog/ken-takahashi/google-doubles-down-on-weak-dkim-keys-what-you-need-to-do-now-to-be-compliant

[qmailtoaster] Blacklist Script

2013-05-07 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.
Does anyone have a script that can populate the blacklist_ip file on
SpamDyke using designated spam emails? Unfortunately I am not a great at
writing scripts or I would write one to do the parsing I need.

In the header of every email there is a line for Received that could be
parsed to grab IPs. I want to try to cut down on the number of messages
coming in that are spam in the spam folder. On some accounts having to
scan through 500+ emails a day that have been marked as spam can be
quite a task to find false positives. The blackhole lists are nice, but
they lag on blacklisting IPs at times.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Blacklist Script

2013-05-07 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.
Thanks for the help. I do find that most of the spam comes from a couple
of blocks and I don't blacklist 1 IP, but /24's every time I modify the
file. I will look at your regular expression and see if I can implement
it. I think I am going to build it so that the addresses get dumped into
a sql database with the date then populate the file from the database.
Having the date field will allow me to expire addresses after a week. I
know that many of the spammers will hit and run so IPs get stale fast. I
figure the week lag time will give the major lists time to list the IPs
if they are still active in spamming.

Your mileage may vary, but I'm not convinced that this would necessarily
be effective. Spammers hop IP addresses continuously, either by using
botnets or snowshoe-spamming techniques.

I just scanned my own mailboxes and found 3626 unique IPs since May 1st (I
get a _lot_ of spam). Among those, there was one IP that had delivered 4
spam messages, 4 that had delivered 3 spam messages, 221 that had
delivered 2 spam messages, and the remainder - around 3400 - had each
delivered only a single message. If your patterns are anything like mine,
you'd end up with an awful lot of blacklist entries for not very much
gain.

There are visibly 'bad' IP blocks - I think eSecureData.com and nac.net
are currently hosting one of the biggest affiliate spammers, for example -
so blacklisting those blocks might not hurt. But those might be caught by
one of the RBLs anyway.

You might get an idea of whether it's likely to work for you by using:

grep -h 'Received:' /path/to/your/mail/directory/* | grep -Eo
'[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}' | grep -v 127.0.0.1 |
uniq -c | sort -n

(replace '/path/to/your/mail/directory' with something that identifies
where your sample spams can be found). Unless I've screwed up, that should
give you a list of IPs preceded by the number of messages that passed
through each one.

(Actually, a message can have multiple 'Received' lines, some of which
represent intermediate hosts, so not all the IPs listed will have talked
directly to your server. But this will at least let you get an idea of
whether it's worth doing).

Which leads me to search for an easy way to force my /webmail httpd

And, back to the main issue. Anyone have an easy way to force a

Re: [qmailtoaster] Processing SPAM

2012-09-11 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.
*I use MySQL to store the individual preferences and as someone else
said I use SPAMBOX. You can probably do this without MySQL integration
but I included some of the MySQL options in my response.

SPAMBOX:
Adding the SPAMBOX option is detailed on the qmailtoaster wiki.
Basically you need to recompile the toaster package with the spambox option.

MySQL spamassassin integration:
MySQL integration requires setting up spamassassin as described in the
following link from apache.

http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/UsingSQL
hints:
1. Don't forget to add the '-q to /var/qmail/supervise/spamd/run.
2. I put the information they say to put in sql.cf in local.cf.
3. It is not mentioned in this link, but you need to add
allow_user_rules 1 to your local.cf, otherwise individual settings are
ignored (this may also be required if you use SPAMBOX without MySQL
integration into spamassassin).

You also need to add the squirrel mail plugin SpamAssassin+SQL. This
will allow you to add and delete whitelists/blacklists and set scoring.

Finally, you need to recompile simscan with the target flag so that
spamassassin knows the email destination and can apply the users settings.
rpmbuild -bb --with cnt5064 --target $(uname -m)
/usr/src/redhat/SPECS/simscan-toaster.spec
hint: the spec file will be there if you install the srpm prior to
running the command.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Whitelisting in SpamAssassin

If you are adding the whitelist rules on a user by user case, you need

The whitelist_from never worked until I added the allow_user_rules 1 in

1. simscan was not being called by the toaster when I first installed it. I
corrected it by editing the /etc/tcprules.d/tcp.smtp, adding
QMAILQUEUE=/var/qmail/bin/simscan, and running qmailctl cdb. I think I
maybe missing a few options in this file. Does anyone have an example that
they can share with me for IPs that they relay for as well as IPs that they
do not relay for?

2. The toaster is not creating the SPAM, LEARN SPAM or LEARN HAM folders. If
I remember right, this is set in the mailfilter in /etc/mail folder. Does
anyone have a copy of this file that does these things?

[qmailtoaster] Having issues with SpamAssasin and MySQL

2011-08-29 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.
My old server allowed uses to set up their preferences using the SASQL
pluging with Squirellmail. I have implemented this in my new system but
simscan is not sending the email address to spamassasin (It is using the one
defined for '$GLOBAL'). I have looked at
(http://www.qmailwiki.org/index.php/Simscan/Guide) and found a reference to
--enable-spamc-user but I am not sure if that is a compile option or there
is a txt file I need to add. Below is what I have done.

Gilbert

I recompiled qmailadmin-toaster to get the spambox option...
rpmbuild --rebuild --with cnt5064 --define 'spambox 1'
qmailadmin-toaster-*.src.rpm

I recompiled simscan...
rpmbuild -bb --with cnt5064 --target $(uname -m)
/usr/src/redhat/SPECS/simscan-toaster.spec

I installed the SASQL plugin and modified my local.cf per
http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/UsingSQL

# Add MySQL User Support
user_scores_dsn DBI:mysql:spamassassin:127.0.0.1
user_scores_sql_password *
user_scores_sql_username *
user_scores_sql_custom_query SELECT preference, value FROM _TABLE_ WHERE

There's a bug in qmailadmin that erroneously modifies the .qmail file
sometimes, like when you change the name description. Go figure.

Check the .qmail file in your domains/domainname/accountname/ folder. If
there's a 2nd line in there, delete it and you should be good to go.

[qmailtoaster] TLS on 587

2011-08-26 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.
Getting used to using spamdyke. I have never used it before and it seems to
be causing problems for some of my customers. I have had to IP whitelist a
couple IPs for people who have always relayed their alarms through my
server..

The issue I still have not solved is my server requiring TLS on port 587. My
old server did not (It was optional before and I cannot find the setting to
make it optional again). require TLS on 587. I am sure as I look through
Spamdyke files I will find that option.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: TLS on 587

2011-08-26 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.
I have whitelisted my customer IPs so they can now send via port 25 if they
desire. My support staff were starting to get frazelled by all the calls
they were receiving. I do not assign rPTR records for most of my customers
and with the default settings of spamdyke those emails are rejected.

The submission port though seems to be requiring TLS according to what my
support techs (I don't talk directly to any of my customers anymore) are
telling me, and you are correct that it does not go through spamdyke when
using port 587. I am going to test at home and see if I can send
unencrypted. I have some customers that still have versions of Outlook that
do not support TLS.

Let me see if I can clarify a couple things.

Port 587 requires authentication, but TLS is not required for smtp
(although TLS is highly recommended).

Spamdyke operates on port 25, and is not connected to port 587 in any way.
Running spamdyke on port 587 would be pointless, as port 587 requires
authentication, and spamdyke bypasses all filters on authenticated
connections (in case any client program were to submit using port 25).

Whitelisting certain IPs for relaying operational emails is not uncommon.
It's better to configure the client software to send with authentication
(and TLS), although that's sometimes not practical.

With this in mind, would you like to try again? ;)

[qmailtoaster] Migration Issue

Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: Migration Issue

2011-08-25 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.
Joel, I understand that and I appriciate the response. I have been using
this platform for many years.

My issue was that I don't touch my server that often and missed something
(the cdb file Eric referenced) when I disected the qtp backup and restore
scripts. I picked and chose what parts I wanted to implement because the 2
servers (new one and old one) are setup very differently (also one is 32bit
while the other is 64bit). I am rsyncing the 100+ GB worth of email on the
servers and doing a hot swap where hopefully I will only be down for 10
minutes (the time rsync takes).

As I spend less time with day-to-day operations, I loose touch with how to
program and troubleshoot and am glad for the helpful community around me on
this mailing list.

Re: [qmailtoaster] smtp access closed

2011-02-17 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.
They maybe sending on port 25 unauthenticated to local users only (all other
receipients would be bounced since you require authentication). Remember
that your email server allows unauthenticated emails to the local users to
the local machine otherwise you would never get email from the outside
world.

I am just throwing out ideas, for places to attack to try to reproduce what
is happening.

 Gilbert,

This Qmailtoaster is set up so that users must authenticate.

I am unable personally to repeat this error, but in my testing of this
event, when sending messages using Outlook with the smtp-disabled account
the password dialog box continually pops up requesting authentication. I
suppose it will do this until the user gives up in frustration, and I'm
assuming this is the way the Qmailtoaster disables relaying for an
account.

Did you perhaps create the domain with vqadmin? vqadmin is broken, and

There will be a Horde webmail package available for QMT at some

leaving that field blank could cause a problem. Everything as Eric said

I realized that I did not post the link to the item that helped me. I compiled

I did have to stop qmail to run it.

There are some queue tools in QTP, and you can also change your queuelifetime
to a low time (say 15 minutes) and then qmailctl doqueue and any messages
that have been in the queue longer than 15 mins will be bounced. Just remember
to change your queuelifetime back to what you had it set at before lowering it.

Subject: [qmailtoaster] DCC DNS settings

I'm replacing a DNS cache machine in my environment.

The old machine is still up while I make sure nothing's pointed at it.
The new machine is up and my toasters are pointed at it. That is to say,
/etc/resolv.conf on my toasters only has one entry and it points to the
new machine.

Toasters run CentOS 5.4 32-bit. DNS resolution is working on the toasters
and I have verified that they are talking to the new cache machine by
looking at logs.

My issue is that something in DCC still wants to go to the old cache
machine for DNS. This seems to happen only when DCC refreshes it's info
about what DCC servers to connect to, like when I reboot a toaster.

I've been dredging through DCC documentation and Google but I can't find
anything that would indicate that DCC maintains a separate list of DNS
servers for name resolution.

If I remember right I had to compile DCC to install it because it's not
distributed as a package for CentOS, so my wildest guess is that the DNS
server info was hard-coded into the executable at compile time.

Does anyone have a more sane suggestion?

I had increased my connections to a high number to avoid this issue a year
ago when I was more active with the server and was having issues with clam
being slow (was an older version and the newer rule sets had made it slow).
I had not messed with it for a while. Initially, I thought todays was clam
since I updated it on Friday, but I did not see that. I looked through the
same logs as Jake and I glossed over that the connections were maxed out. I
am happy that Jake and his fresh eyes were available to take a peek.

I think I will stay with some basic blacklists now. I am not sure which
ones though.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Updated packages

2009-06-16 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.

My 2 cents...

With the exception of ClamAV and Spamassasin rule sets, why is Qmailtoaster
updated so much? I know I have not updated most of the applications on my
toaster for 1.5 years (My last hardware migration). On a small setup, I am
sure it is a lot easier to perform regular updates, but on a large one it
has a potential to be a nightmare.

Is there a reason why toaster is not slowed down a little? Jake, I do not
know how you keep up with all the package updates and all of the problems
that keep getting posted on the list. My head spins sometimes as I read it.
I am surprised that qmailtoaster 1.x has not been frozen so that development
of 2.x can be fully engaged. Changing the IMAP client is a big deal and I
am excited that it will be done in the next release. The other item I think
should be a focus is the web gui, not only the admin side which has been a
recent focus on this list, but the customer side as well. I think you are
doing a great job Jake.

The Qmailtoaster is a great project and I really enjoy seeing the activity
on the list regarding it.

Released a new version of all packages today. Updated ClamAV to 0.95.2.
Updated Squirrelmail to 1.4.19 and courier-authlib to 0.62.2. Added
Mandriva 2009 support. Also added Fedora 11 and Fedora 11 x86_64 support.
ClamAV is a bugfix update and Squirrelmail is a security update that is a
continuation of the 1.4.18 security fix.
I updated courier-authlib by accident to be honest. I was trying to get
Mandriva to work and attempted to see if a newer courier-authlib package
would compile cleanly but ended up finding the issue with Mandriva. Forgot
to put the original package back in place and just now noticed it as I was
cleaning up the old packages and archiving them. It should function just
as the old one did.

I did not get Mandriva 2009 x86_64 support into these packages. Mandriva
2009 renamed a lot of packages from previous editions that caused a lot of
time to be spent finding the new packages names. In the 2009 x86_64
version they changed the names again and I honestly just didn't want to
spend the time chasing the package names down when a new version of clamav
was waiting to be put online.
If someone wants to work on the Mandriva 2009 x86_64 dependency script and
send me a revised version I will add the support into the packages.
Otherwise it will be a while.

Speaking of which, the Fedora dependency scripts could use a freshening up
as well. If someone would like to go through those scripts and make sure
all the relevant dependencies are covered and send me a revised edition I
will be more than happy to put them online.

I have moved the Qmailtoaster website to a new, faster server so if you do
not see the updated packages rest assured that you will see them once DNS
has propagated.

Enjoy!

get a feel as to why there are so many package updates and why you did not
hold off on updating packages and you answered that with your response.

When I was indicating problems, I was just speaking of random posts, not
anything specific to the recent package issue. The system is unbelivelby
stable and many of the problems posted are easily fixed by the poster doing
a little research though there are some advanced questions that do require
someone like you to get their hands dirty. I was personally having many
problems with my installation. I spent a little time, posted a couple
questions on the list that were answered quickly, and got through them. I
have made many modifications, some of which I forgot to document when I did
my install. This has caused me many headaches. I have never used spamdyke.
I just installed last month your Qmailtoaster-Plus to look at a few things
that it performed. I have used a couple of the scripts but still have not
gotten completely comfortable with change.

Good Job.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Qmail Tap - bcc

I think you are going to have to put a firewall/logger infront of your local
network or infront of your mail server and capture packets. Qmail Tap does
not handle bcc. It just provides a copy of the message as you would see it
if you opened it and looked at the headers. BCC is protected and not stored

Hi list,

I used not to be a big fan of greylisting, given that it delays the
reception of legitimate mails, but given that spam is getting worst each
day, I want to try it.

Don't get me wrong, blacklists+spamassassin works certainly good but it
takes a lot of CPU.

Greylisting, if I do it right, could possibly reduce the thrashing of my
CPU, delaying only certain mails, not too much time, giving time to
blacklists (like sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org) to be filled with that wrong-doer.

I'm looking for greylist the FULL way (triplets, not only greylisting
IP's), but I'm open to any other solution.

 Any experiences out there?

Believe it or not, but I have not used the pre-built ISO or the qtp

I follow the instructions found at the following site for the most part to

http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/RazorSiteWide

My procedure...
wget
http://unc.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/razor/razor-agents-sdk-2.07.tar.gz

tar xvzf razor-agents-sdk-2.07.tar.gz
cd razor-agents-sdk-2.07
perl Makefile.PL make make install

wget
http://unc.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/razor/razor-agents-2.84.tar.gz

tar xvzf razor-agents-2.84.tar.gz
cd razor-agents-2.84
perl Makefile.PL make make install

I create the directory /etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor

razor-admin -home=/etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor -register
razor-admin -home=/etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor -create
razor-admin -home=/etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor -discover

I then edit v310.pre and uncomment the razor2 plugin.

I then edit /etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor/razor-agent.conf and append
razorhome = /etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor/

To call the razor2 plugin I add the following 2 lines to my local.cf
use razor2 1
razor_config /etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor/razor-agent.conf

perl(Razor::Client::Agent) was added as a dependency, so yum installed

# rpm -e perl-Razor-Agent
and perhaps restart spamd, then the messages will cease.

I'm guessing that something needs to be done in addition to installing
this dependency in order for razor to work properly. Looks to me like it

I am not sure if I was using razor before or not. So I looked through
the previous spamd log files and never noticed any messages that
included the word razor. I know some people are using it because I
searched through the mailing list, but did not find anything resembling
my warning. Since it seems to be a perl plugin error, I search for
posts regarding perl, but nothinig that seems to help me. I have looked
for a .razor file on my system, but have not found any. I checked my
/etc/spamassassin/local.cf and nothing related to razor in there.

Does qtp use razor by default? Can/should I turn it off and how. Anyone
have an idea what the problem my be?

I was just using some basic filters along with Basian and was getting about
10 or 15 emails through my spam filters a day with the spam score set to
'2'. When I added Razor2, That was reduced to 1, possibly 2 through a day.
I have also added DCC and Pyzor and have adujusted my spam score up to '4'.
I get 1 or 2 false positives a day now mostly because of the Basian filter
being out of whack (I think one of my executives was feeding mail that was
not spam into the learning folder). DCC seems to give alot of false
positives. It seems like any company that sends regular marketing
information (ASU, Costco, etc.) scores on their filter even though I know
that to get email from them you had to subscribe and the email that it is
scoring is email that I have subscribed to. I like Razor.

Thanks Gilbert. That's a big help.

Do you (or anyone else) have an indication of how effective razor is?
With or without spamdyke?

Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr. wrote:
Believe it or not, but I have not used the pre-built ISO or the qtp
programs. This is what I know about razor...

I follow the instructions found at the following site for the most part
to install Razor.

http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/RazorSiteWide

My procedure...
wget
http://unc.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/razor/razor-agents-sdk-2.07.tar.gz
tar xvzf razor-agents-sdk-2.07.tar.gz

cd razor-agents-sdk-2.07
perl Makefile.PL make make install

wget
http://unc.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/razor/razor-agents-2.84.tar.gz

tar xvzf razor-agents-2.84.tar.gz
cd razor-agents-2.84
perl Makefile.PL make make install

I create the directory /etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor

razor-admin -home=/etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor -register
razor-admin -home=/etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor -create
razor-admin -home=/etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor -discover

I then edit v310.pre and uncomment the razor2 plugin.

I then edit /etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor/razor-agent.conf and append
razorhome = /etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor/

To call the razor2 plugin I add the following 2 lines to my local.cf
use razor2 1
razor_config /etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor/razor-agent.conf

Can someone (Gilbert, you here?) elaborate about Razor a bit here?
Perhaps that dependency should be removed from qtp-newmodel.

perl(Razor::Client::Agent) was added as a dependency, so yum installed
the perl-Razor-Agent package. I expect that if you

# rpm -e perl-Razor-Agent
and perhaps restart spamd, then the messages will cease.

I'm guessing that something needs to be done in addition to installing
this dependency in order for razor to work properly. Looks to me like
it needs to connect to a razor server of some sort. Again, just a
guess.

Dave Hallowell wrote:

Hello,
I am running qtp on a centos 4.4 linux box. Last week I updated qtp
using the new model script. Works great! Today I decided to do a yum
update and updated my entire system. Now I am running centos4.7. I
had not done an update for some time, (shame on me) so there were
alot of packages to update. I rebooted and email is coming in and
going out fine.

When I tail my /var/log/qmail/spamd/current file, I see this warning:
warn: razor2: razor2 check failed: Connection refused razor2: razor2
had unknown error during get_server_info at

/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.5/Mail/SpamAssassin/Plugin/Razor2.pm
line 326.

I am not sure if I was using razor before or not. So I looked through
the previous spamd log files and never noticed any messages that
included the word razor. I know some people are using it because I
searched through the mailing list, but did not find anything
resembling my warning. Since it seems to be a perl plugin error, I
search for posts regarding perl, but nothinig that seems to help me.
I have looked for a .razor file on my system, but have not found any.
I checked my /etc/spamassassin/local.cf and nothing related to razor
in there.

Does qtp use razor by default? Can/should I turn it off and how.
Anyone have an idea what the problem my be?

Thanks,
Dave

[qmailtoaster] qtp applications

2009-04-15 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.
I have recently install QmailToaster-Plus to my system and have been running
some of the applications.

What are some experiences users have had with qtp-extraclam? I ran it the
otherday and it seems to have radically reduced the number of emails I get
in my spam folder. Has anyone else seen this response?

qtp-sa-update did not seem to work correctly. Maybe I am wrong since I
installed qtp-extraclam not to far before. I installed it but I do not have
and have never had the rules_du_jour that the beginning of the scrip tries
to remove. I am assuming that it is doing something. Is what I see the
norm?

After running both of the above mentioned scripts, I see a significan
smaller number of overall emails in my spam folder (I am assuming that is
the qtp-extraclam since the emails are being tossed and not being put into
the spam folder). I was scared initially because of such a drop in emails
being delivered, but I have not heard anything from my customers or from
people that I know indicating that mail is not being delivered to mailboxes
on my machine.

I really need to take a look at what these scripts are doing so that I am
more comfortable with the system. I have had so many problems in the past
with false positives and/or lack of filtering that I am very paranoid about
something working. I still have not setup spamdyke or rbls. Are most users
using the default setup of the server or are users using tools available
like qtp (all the tools it includes), razor, pyzor, dcc, etc?

Re: [qmailtoaster] 555 error off squirrelmail

2009-04-03 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.
Current version on my clam is .94 I've been pretty good at keeping that
and
spamassassin up to date. I have noticed as of late (during
troubleshooting)
that when I run qmailctl stop both spam and clam refuse to die... I
have

to pkill them. It seems my squirrelmail is all wacked out too which might
lead to the same issue. I can no longer send emails out of my client and
it

returns this message as well. So it seems I have no alternative but to
upgrade at this point.

Looks Like I have a weekend project ready for me :D

Glen

If it is spamassassin or clam, can't you temporarily disable those by
adusting the /var/qmail/control/simcontrol ? I don't know since this issue
is well past my knowledge.

I also ran into a similar problem a while back, but in my case, I would see

I think my issue was also with autowhitelist. I hate the tool. I had a
MySQL database table for autowhitelist that was 2GB with an index just as
long. That filter never worked to my expectation and I finally killed it
which seemed to help prevent spamassassin not cause timeouts.

Also, be sure that you do have bayes_auto_expire 0. Auto_expire happens
while an smtp session is active, and the sending server may time out if
the process takes more than a couple minutes, which can happen pretty
easily depending on your processor and how busy it is.

You can run a daily cron job to handle the bayes database expirations:
#!/bin/sh
# written 11/17/06 by Eric Shubert e...@shubes.net
# force journal sync and expiration of spamassassin bayes database
#
sa-learn -u vpopmail --force-expire
chown vpopmail:vchkpw /home/vpopmail/.spamassassin/bayes_toks

[qmailtoaster] DCC

2009-03-20 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.
Thanks for the responses to the Razor question I asked. I did not need to
change anything to get it to work other than ...
1. edit the /etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor/razor-agent.conf and add
razorhome = /etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor/

2. enable the plugin in v310.pre
3. edit the local.cf and add use razor2 and razor_config
/etc/mail/spamassassin/.razor/razor-agent.conf

sudo -u vpopmail -H spamassassin -D --lint gives no errors and messages
are being marked correctly.

Now I am trying to enable DCC and am having issues. I maybe doing something
wrong. This is what I have done...
1. I configured DCC using
./configure --disable-sys-inst --disable-server --disable-dccm --disable-dccifd
2. edit the local.cf and add use_dcc 1' and dcc_path
/usr/local/bin/dccproc

3. enable the plugin in v310.pre

Re: [qmailtoaster] DCC

2009-03-20 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.
I ran it a second time as root, and it worked. Now if I run it as the user
that spamassassin uses, it fails as follows...

sudo -u vpopmail -H spamassassin -t -D spam-mail.txt

[19415] dbg: dcc: dccifd is not available: no r/w dccifd socket found
[19415] dbg: dcc: dccproc is available: /usr/local/bin/dccproc

[19415] dbg: info: leaving helper-app run mode
[19415] dbg: dcc: check failed: no X-DCC returned (did you create a map
file?): /var/dcc: Permission denied

So it is a permissions issue. I need to change the dcc folder permissions.
This always scares me, should I change the user or the group?

[qmailtoaster] Centos 5 Install

2009-03-18 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.
I have been using the Qmail Toaster for a while (2 to 3 years) but recently
started having problems. Discovering that my documentation was missing, I
went about creating new documentation for my particular installation.

I am early on in my documentation procedure and have found an issue with
both the cnt50-deps.sh and cnt5064-deps.sh scripts.

It cannot install the following 3 packages via RPM...
compat-libf2c, compat-libgcc, compat-libsdc++-33
I believe this is a typo. I believe the files need to be
compat-libf2c-34 compat-libgcc-296 compat-libstdc++-33

How do we go about have the script files updated? Obviously, I have gotten
around this problem, but someone else starting out would really get hung up.

Re: [qmailtoaster] SMTP Problem QmailToaster

What you need to do is import the key for yum to update that package that
way. You can manually install the application in Fedora5 as I believe you
have by doing the following...

cd /usr/src/qtms-install
wget
http://www.qmailtoaster.org/download/develop/clamav-toaster-0.93.3-1.3.20.src.rpm

rpmbuild --rebuild --with fdr50 clamav-toaster-0.93.3-1.3.20.src.rpm
rpm -Uvh /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/clamav-toaster-0.93.3-1.3.20.i386.rpm

You will probably need to restart the smtp service.

Otherwise I have seen many errors in my log file found at /var/log/clamav.

[qmailtoaster] SIMSCAN

2008-07-08 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.
I sm seeing a descrepancy in my headers. My question is, how do I correct
the header to read the correct information or not provide some of those
details? Below is what I am seeing.

Headers in Email Received have the following line...

Received: by simscan 1.3.1 ppid: 8009, pid: 8021, t: 0.7548s
scanners: attach: 1.3.1 clamav: 0.90.1-exp/m:46 spam: 3.1.8

The problem is that I am running clamav 0.93.1 and spamassassin 3.2.4. Is
there a configuration file that holds this information? I know that
spamassassin is 3.2.4 because the next line is as follows in the header...

X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.2.4 (2008-01-01) on

Re: [qmailtoaster] SIMSCAN

2008-07-08 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.

/var/qmail/bin/simscanmk -g
worked somewhat (I got the following error)...
[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# /var/qmail/bin/simscanmk -g
LibClamAV Error: cl_cvdhead: Can't open file /usr/share/clamav/main.cvd
LibClamAV Error: cl_cvdhead: Can't open file /usr/share/clamav/daily.cvd
simscan versions cdb file built. /var/qmail/control/simversions.cdb

At this point, the mail server stoped working when I restarted the service.
I guess 0.93 gets rid of main.cvd and daily.cvd. I ended up copying the
.cld files to .cvd files. I ran the command again and restarted the server.
Everything is now working.

That was a real surprise until I read the following link...

Hello Gilbert
you can simply run this command :
/var/qmail/bin/simscanmk -g

or you can simply have all the cdb files rebuilt issuing :
/etc/init.d/qmail cdb command or of course /usr/bin/qmailctl cdb

-P

Re: [qmailtoaster] SIMSCAN

2008-07-08 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.

Actually I am having problems... I have had to disable the clam scaning.

The clamav process is showing the following...
clamav8397 43.0 0.0 0 0 pts/0Z17:26 0:00 [clamd]
defunct

No mail was coming through. I am trying to figure out what I need to do.
Does anyone have any ideas now that I have somehow messed up the cdb file
for simscan to the point that clamd no longer works?

[qmailtoaster] QMAILToaster-PLUS

2008-02-08 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.

I am considering installing QMAILToaster-PLUS and I have a question...

The tool qtp-newmodel upgrades your QMT installation. I have a concern
with the upgrade since I modified the install script for simscan-toaster to
allow for users to control their own blacklists/whitelists and SPAM scores
through MySQL and spamassasin.

 # rpmbuild --rebuild --with $DISTRO $SIMS
 rpmbuild -bb --with $DISTRO --target $(uname -m)
/usr/src/redhat/SPECS/simscan-toaster.spec

Does this tool allow for me to maintain that modification?

Hey Gilbert,

I think it'll do what you need. See
http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/Upgrading#rpmbuild

If that doesn't do it for you, let me know what else you need.
(I wrote and maintain qtp-newmodel)

[qmailtoaster] Need QMAIL CONSULTANT

2007-09-26 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.
I have need for a professional QMAIL toaster consultant. I am having a couple
problems with my toaster that did not occurr during testing but are now
appearing under load.

I am running QMAILTOASTER on Centos5

The server is irregularly denying authentication. It usually will clear up in
a few minutes but not always. A sure way to clear the problem up is to restart
the MySQL service. I am not seeing any obvious errors on the system.

I will need references and other documentation that would normally be needed
for a business transaction.

You can adjust mysql settings by adding options to your /etc/my.cnf file.
Are you low on RAM on this system or anything? I run several hundred users

Re: [qmailtoaster] squirrel rules

2007-09-17 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.
MessageYou need to rebuild the Qmail Toaster RPM and re-install it. To do what
you want to do, you need to use mail filter (This is not programmed through
Squirel Mail). Once you have rebuilt and re-installed the RPM, you should have
a check box to enable spam filtering. At that point, you can create a rule
like slamp slamp described on 9/17 at 6:51am. I maybe missing a step, but am
not sure. A link on the QMAILTOASTER FAQ page

  Subject: [qmailtoaster] squirrel rules

  Hey there!
I set up a rule in my webmail with squirrel to send all msgs tagged **SPAM**
to the Trash. But I found out that I downloaded all the mails with Thunderbird
and the rule only did run when I logged in to squirrel.

So, is there a way to apply the filters when messages arrive to my user
inbox, w/o login in to squirrel or downloading the messages with POP3?

  Thanks! Sergio

[qmailtoaster] Error Message

2007-09-14 Thread Gilbert T. Gutierrez, Jr.

Error - no authentication database connection. Initial open.

This message goes away if I restart MySQL. I am not seeing any errors in
the MySQL log as seen below. Is there some SQL tunning that needs to be
done if there are more than a couple hundred users?

Gilbert
