RE: [qmailtoaster] Re: Per Session Limit Question

2012-02-24 Thread Joel Eddy
That's kinda what I figured it did. Just wasn't 100% on that decision.
Thanks for the info.
I think what's happening is the client uses Peachtree accounting to send
invoices. And from what
I remember of Peachtree is it sends the invoice to the email client of
choice and sends through it.
Since the client uses Outlook 2007 I'm thinking it isn't sending the message
right away. Instead I think it probably
Cues the message in Outlook until you hit send and receive. If that's the
case, and I believe that is the default
for Outlook it could very well be holding a rather large number of messages
to send.

Hence, causing the per session limit pop up. I've got to go over to the
clients place of business and check that
to know for sure however.

Although I can't speak to the tcp.smtp configuration, we used to run
Symantec antivirus here so maybe I can clarify what's going on with that.

When you have a Norton/Symantec antivirus product installed on a Windows box
and configured to monitor your email, it inserts itself as a transparent
proxy, watching all inbound outbound traffic on typical email protocol
ports on that machine. The Norton/Symantec product is not generating the
error, it's simply reporting back to the user what it received from the
outbound mail server.

That's a good possibility. I can't honestly say if Outlook (any version)
uses a separate session for each messages or not, but I would guess that
it likely sends them all in a single smtp session. No reason not to that
I can see. What I said earlier about this is probably wrong.

I do know that Outlook doesn't leave an smtp session going continually
though. That would eventually time out. However, if a slew of messages
were waiting to go out, as in the case where Outlook was offline for a
period of time, they could all be sent in a single smtp session. If/when
this happens, I honestly don't know what chkuser would do. I expect that
it would apply the limits to each messages individually, but I'm not
certain of that. Tonino?

Generally speaking, I'm not aware of any limits that are placed on
multiple messages in a single smtp session. This doesn't mean that there
aren't any though.

Sorry for the disinformation earlier. Please keep us posted.

Since it's NortonAV that's issuing the message, I expect that the
solution lies therein.

Each message between Outlook and QMT would constitute an SMTP session.

Please verify the number of recipients that the user is including in
their message that's causing the problem.

If the user periodically sends a messages to the same group of users (be
it 6 or 60), the best solution is usually to set up an email list.
That's what it's for.

As an example the client has a group that is mailed to. The group has 62
addresses. When the client tries to send to that group the per session limit
pops up.

My first reaction was that it's a Norton Issue as well. But I don't know of
anywhere in Norton AV that sets a limit.

I get so TIRED of hearing the whine about spam to the point I wish I never

I will admit however that it isn't as bad as it used to be on the old qmail

But I still get the occasional whiner that got a piece or two of spam and I

RE: [qmailtoaster] Future Distros - RHEL/CentOS ONLY

2012-02-13 Thread Joel Eddy
I say it is a move in the right direction. I'm sure it's going to step on
some bodies toes at some point, but if the community as a whole moves in
this direction and can settle on CentOS as the base OS of choice it will
only make us all stronger since we would all be on the same OS whether it's
32 or 64 bit.

Not to mention the time saved with coding for so many different OS's that
you coders support right now.

I propose we move in that direction and make CentOS the OS of choice as soon
as possible.

Just my 2 cents.

Subject: [qmailtoaster] Future Distros - RHEL/CentOS ONLY

I've done a good deal of thinking about this, and think that it'd be
best to run it by the community at large (not just the developers) for
everyone's consideration. This is not really new, and is not much
different than what Jake had committed to some time ago. I just want to
be sure that everyone is on board with this, and explain a few things.

Due to various changes in the IT landscape over the past several years,
I think it's best that future QMT development be limited to the
RHEL/CentOS platform. There are several factors involved.

First is that we'll be changing the method of distribution from source
rpms to binary rpms, using yum to install packages (qtp-newmodel will be
modified accordingly). We can do this because the qmail (et al)
licensing was changed to public domain a couple years ago, so there is
no restriction to distribute source-only any more. We also have mirrors
in place that eliminate the need to have a single distribution point
with high bandwidth capability. Using binary rpms for distribution not
only simplifies installs and upgrades, but it also substantially reduces
the disk space required, in addition to making QMT more secure due to
the absence of a compiler and build tools. All in all, this is a win-win
change.

Secondly, the industry in general is moving toward virtual hosts, and
QMT is making this move as well (many of us already run QMT as one or
more VM guests). One of the advantages of virtualization is that
multiple machines can coexist on the same host hardware, concurrently
running entirely different operating systems and versions of languages
and software. There's little need any more for QMT to coexist on the
same machine with other applications or services. In fact, things are
moving in a direction such that QMT itself will become divided into
logical roles that will be able to implemented on separate hosts,
allowing for more flexible and scalable QMT configurations. Stay tuned
for that development, which is a ways off yet.

So let's take a look briefly at the prominent distros that QMT will be
discontinuing.

Mandriva is on the ropes, struggling to survive. If you presently have a
QMT running on Mandy, I would seriously consider a migration in the near
future.

SUSE does not use yum, it has yast instead. When I looked at yast some
time ago it had no CLI, which was a big drawback to me. While I expect
that yum could be installed and used, it goes against the When in Rome
philosophy. The source rpms will of course continue to be available, so
if someone cares to adapt them for SUSE, they may do so.

While Fedora contains a great deal of what's in store for future
RHEL/CentOS releases, it's not well suited as a QMT platform, simply
because it changes too often (a new release twice a year), and most
often none of the changes provide any benefit to QMT. If there happens
to be something that would benefit QMT, it would most likely be
available for RHEL/CentOS in the EPEL repo. So there is really no sense
in packaging QMT for Fedora.

I think this covers the distros worth mentioning. If I missed one,
please let me know.

In summary, going forward QMT will be available only on RHEL/CentOS
platforms, for both x86 and x86_64 architectures. This will simplify
spec files, documentation and installation/utility scripts
substantially. For all other distros, the existing build options in the
spec files will no longer be included. They will however be archived in
a source code repository before being removed, so that they'll be
available should anyone want to reference them at some point in the future.

If you have a problem with or question about any of this, or you'd
simply like to comment about something, please don't hesitate to reply.

Thanks to everyone for their continued support and participation.

Subject: [qmailtoaster] qmailtoaster DNS migration

As those of you on the mirrors list already know, the next step in
building our community infrastructure will be happening this evening.

The main thing that's happening is that Jake will be changing the
authoritative DNS for the qmailtoaster domains from his nameservers to
Dan McAllister's. Dan has a nice set of authoritative name servers,
which will be augmented soon with a few more secondary servers operated
by some other members of our community (Phil, Andreas and CJ).

Also, the qmailtoaster.net and qmailtoaster.org domain names will be
going away. Everything for the project will be using the
qmailtoaster.com domain (and appropriate subdomains). The only thing
this really affects (that we know of) are the mirrors, which have been
modified to use the .com domain from this point forward. qtp-newmodel
has also been modified accordingly and a new QTP has been released, so
you should upgrade your qmailtoaster-plus package before upgrading any
*-toaster packages as of tomorrow.

There should be no interruption of infrastructure services due to these
changes. However, if you happen to notice a problem, please post to this
list about it.

If you have any questions or comments about any of this, let's hear from
you.

Thanks to everyone involved for their participation.

What OS / build are you using?

You can try this as root - may help.

By default, will the toaster compiled simscan support the pass through

Or what number should I set my spam_hits to (i.e. recommendation) so that
most email is accepted and passed through to users? Those that score over
my threshold in /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf should then be marked spam
with the rewrite_header SUBJECT ***SPAM*** entry, correct?

I have some execs that insist they get all their mail, even if it is spam.

I googled the planet, found the answer in an obscure licatio:

So here is a format that worked: create new message file

vi message.txt

In there:

First line of file: From: your email

Second line of file: Subject: The Subject of Your Email Message

Third line of file: empty line

Fourth line of file: empty line

Fifth line of file: Dear Email Hosting Clients,

Sixth line of file: empty line

Seventh line of file: Begin actual message

then I ran

/home/vpopmail/bin/vpopbull -f message.txt mydomain.com -V

-f {filename}

-V, is verbose, it lists all email addresses in domain, getting the email

Hope someone else can use this, or Pak Ogah`s method

I don't think that would be related to a clamav update.

Is there a /var/qmail/supervise/send/supervise/lock file?
If so, it's probably left over from a previous run.

I would suggest:
.) stop qmail
.) kill any processes that don't end on their own
.) remove any lock files that remain
.) start qmail

RE: [qmailtoaster] Re: Migrating from Qmail Rocks install on Solaris to Qmail Toaster on CentOS

2011-10-04 Thread Joel Eddy
This is only my 2 cents.
You will want to lower your DNS TTL down to 3600 before you start this
process at least 3 or 4 days before.

That way when you transfer over you won't get as many phones call
complaining about mail issues. And it should clear itself in about an hour.

For now no, the gateway and sa hosts will stay put.

Then you can simply change the smtproutes in the sa host to point to the
new server at an appropriate time, after the new host is up and running
and accounts exist there.

Understandable about keeping the old server up while changes propagate.

Don't need to worry about the inbound side though, as that'll stay the same.

The old server is using courier, but I guess dovecot could be a better
route. I've used it a little in the past on a different server. What
kind of difficulty am I looking at to switch from courier to dovecot?

It's not tough at all. See the wiki for instructions. There's an rpm for
QMT available in the QTP repo.

Also, how would you recommend that I keep the maildirs up to date? Im
trying to figure out the best way to do that without causing either lost
or duplicate mail. Am I going to want to create tarballs of mailboxes
and run some type of conversion on them before restoring them, or
utilize sync, or is there a better way?

I think you're gonna need to do some scripting for this, as the
directory structure is changing. Basically, you want something that'll
migrate the maildir folders from one host to another. I think I'd use
tar with a couple scripts to 'drive' the thing.

On the old side, the script should find a domain (or drive it with a
list), then find each account, then tarball up the maildir into a single
file. At the end of the process, you can tarball up all the account
tarballs into a single archive for transfer.

After transfer, on the new side, untar the transferred file, and another
script would process each maildir tarball, and untar it into the
appropriate place. Be careful not to wipe out any mail that may have
come in directly to the new server already.

The only problem I can think of is if you have pop users who leave
messages on the server. Those are going to be duplicated. If your users
can't live with that, you'll need to do some extra work to get that part
taken care of.

Thanks for all the help you've been offering...I certainly appreciate it.

Sure.
I hope you're taking copious notes for the wiki. ;)

Good advice, Joel. This is a good thing to do whenever you're changing
DNS around. I might even go with 600. ;)

Casey has a lot of domains, but it's probably still worth doing. Users
don't understand it's already fixed, but it will take some time for
your system to work. ;)

I think it's because my toaster needs smtp authentication to send mail and

need to some how bypass auth for that account or figure a way for the W2K
server to auth the account to send mail.

Sound like the problem?

will need to use the full u...@xyzdomain.xxx Also smtp uses it too.

[qmailtoaster] Re; Basic Question

2011-05-27 Thread Joel Eddy
I've got a client that sends to a mail group of 50 or less. And when she
does that everything works. No problems.

But when they run invoices at the end of the month and if they have say 80
or so messages that need to send setting in their Outlook Mail client we
have problems. If they click send/receive it may only send 2 or 3 messages
and stalls. Till they close outlook and try again. Then it may send 20 and
stall.

Anybody else seen issue like that? Could it be a concurrency setting or
something else I need to tweak?

Here's what I now have in tcp.smtp

BLSMTPD=,NOP0FCHECK=1

RCPTLIMIT=10,QMAILQUEUE=/var/qmail/bin/simscan,DKSIGN=/var/qmail/contro
l/domainkeys/%/private,NOP0FCHECK=1

Do I need the NOP0FCHECK=1 in there twice. I wonder if my tcp.smtp is or
was mangeled at some point in time compared to your Eric.

Plus I jacked up both concurrency files a tad bit.

Concurrency shouldn't be an issue. That's simply concurrent connections,
and doesn't really relate to the number of recipients in an email.

My tcp.smtp file has this:
:allow,BADMIMETYPE=,BADLOADERTYPE=M,CHKUSER_RCPTLIMIT=50,CHKUSER_WRONG
RCPTLIMIT=10,QMAILQUEUE=/var/qmail/bin/simscan,DKSIGN=/var/qmail/contro
l/domainkeys/%/private,NOP0FCHECK=1

I don't know what the default CHKUSER_RCPTLIMIT would be if it's not
specified. I would add both CHKUSER variables, and set them to what you
need for your situation.

And so far I haven't had issues.

If you use spamdyke it takes care of the max_recipients=50 for you. You
might even try removing the

I'm not sure how that rule works. But I suspect it fails after ten attempts

2011-05-13 Thread Joel Eddy
Spamdyke can control the over all max_recipients.

I'd try just removing the CHKUSER_WRONGRCPTLIMIT=10 first.

And Test it. If you see no change you can always put it back in.

Just run qmailctl cdb to reload after each time you make a change.

[qmailtoaster] Ree; Spamassassin/SPAM ?

2011-05-11 Thread Joel Eddy
Am I thinking right in that spamassassin tags mail in the subject line if it
hits the required_score limit. But simscan will delete the message if it
hits the spam_hits=12 limit?

Is that remotely close to the process?

Okay, so it doesn't really delete a message but it won't allow it to be
delivered. Even better, then I can fill the return address full of bounce
messages.

Gotta love that. Only problem is the return address may not be legit. But at
least it wont be delivered.

Thanks again ERIC. You the MAN ;-)

Remotely close, yes. Simscan doesn't actually delete the message though.
It rejects (does not accept) the message, so the sending server will
(can and should) generate a bounce to the original sender.

2011-05-10 Thread Joel Eddy
Eric,

After removing the CHKUSER_RCPTLIMIT=50,CHKUSER_WRONGRCPTLIMIT=10 in
tcp.smtp my toaster is now working when a mass mailing it sent. I'm just
letting spamdyke control that with max-recipients=50

I suspect the CHKUSER_WRONGRCPTLIMIT=10 part may have been the culprit.
But not sure.

But on a side note. While spamdyke it a wonderful tool for qmail it lacks
one option that would really be cool to add if it's possible. That would be
the ability to add certain word phrases to say a file that could be checked
against for more spam tagging.

However for those that are still seeing the ever ongoing spam what I've used
and seems to help is to add this to your IPTABLES rules.

This is all one line when you add it to iptables. Leave the 's in. Just
change your phrase to filter here. And adjust accordingly to fit your
iptables.

-A INPUT -p tcp -s 0/0 --dport 25 -m string --string your phrase to filer
here --from 0 --algo bm -j DROP

Now I'm by no means the iptables guru, so if there happens to be someone
here that is and this could use some tuning by all means give us your 2
cents or more, PLEASE. The more SPAM we kill the better off we all are.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents for today.

Thanks, Joel.

I don't know off hand, but I expect that adding an appropriate
SpamAssassin rule to the /etc/mail/spamassassin/local.cf file would
accomplish the same thing for you. This would be the preferred way to
handle such a filter. I expect someone here might be able to whip up an
example of such a rule. Anyone?

FWIW, spamdyke doesn't actually scan messages, at least at this point.
It simply examines certain parts of the header, as well as the
connecting server's configuration (eg rDNS), to apply its filters.

RE: [qmailtoaster] Re: Re; General Question

2011-05-04 Thread Joel Eddy
Sometimes I'm not confident enough to make a suggestion to some questions
for fear of busting someone's setup.

But I try to help where and when I can.

The one issue I'm left with is this multiple recipient's problem. I've dug
through smtp logs all morning and I can not find any errors or problems.

But the user still can't send to 50 at a time. They sent to 8 and it worked
then 12 and it worked. They tried 25 at first and that failed. But I can't
find any indication in log files what happened or what blocked it.

I did read where the user must auth to the smtp server so I confirmed that
is set in their outlook. But still no luck.

I wonder if I remove the CHKUSER_RCPTLIMIT=50 and CHKUSER_WRONGLIMIT=10
out of tcp.smtp if it would work? Just let spamdyke control
max-recipients.

Also is the file chkuser_settings.h in /var/qmail/doc/ the config file used
for chkuser?

Once I find the problem it's probably going to be one of those DUH moments.

Oh well. Back to reading more qmail related articles.

That's ok, Joel. To be honest, that's how I've learned a lot of what I
know. I just wish others would chime in more often. ;)

Anyway. The question I have is when you make a change to spamdyke.conf do
 you need to restart qmail?

Not at all. Changes to spamdyke.conf (and associated config files) are
reloaded on the fly with each smtp connection. You might think this
would be inefficient, but the kernel caches them all anyhow, so it's
surprisingly efficient that way.

Specifically like I did yesterday when I created
the dir in /var/log/spamdyke and added the full-log-dir to the conf file
and

Nope.

 Joel

PS I thought about adding that to the wiki. Good idea or not?

That'd make a nice FAQ. :)

If you feel a little more ambitious, a web page about managing services
in general would be nice. Eg when restarting is necessary, and how to do
each one. For instance, many people (myself included) are surprised that
doing a service qmail restart (or qmailctl restart) only restarts
qmail-smtpd, and not other related services.

Eric on this issue of timeout from spamdyke that I see in the smtp logs
could it be something in the caching dns causing the problem?

It could be that scanning is taking longer than your timeout setting.
What value do you have for idle-timeout-secs in spamdyke.conf?
FWIW, I have 180 presently.

It could also be that scanning is taking longer than the sending server
is willing to wait (sender times out first, then spamdyke follows suit).

Is your clamav up to date? There were some earlier versions that would
go into a loop, causing loads to be very high, and general slowness.

TIMEOUT isn't usually indicative of a non-spam problem.

Which spamdyke version are you running? There was a problem that was
fixed (in 4.2.0 IIRC) that would leave a session hanging after another
rejection of some sort. No real harm except it tied up resources a
 little bit.

Update to the current version if you haven't already. Simply re-run
qtp-install-spamdyke and that should do it for you.

If it's repeatable (which it appears to be), I'd use spamdyke's detail
logging facility to capture one:
full-log-dir=/var/log/spamdyke
(I think you'll need to create the directory before turning the option on)

Then we can see what's really going on. If there's a bug, the detail log
will be excellent to have for Sam.

It would also be useful to see all of the related smtp log messages for
the given email.

I've got a bridging firewall that is ahead of all my servers and the mail

something with the mail processing. What I've got to go figure out yet. But
for now I've got it straight to the pub side of the switch.

And the message I was waiting for showed up as soon as I bypassed the
bridge. The timeouts have dropped to just a few now
and then too. The bridge is screening for phrases in the packets so it may
of even been one of those that was fouling up message
delivery. I'll have to go back and start with a basic iptables and see what
happens.

tcp.smtp has CHKUSER_RCPTLIMIT=50 so it and spamdyke.conf match on that
point.

I'll see what I can find about chkuser.

Thanks.

RE: [qmailtoaster] Re: SPAM Designation Option

2011-05-03 Thread Joel Eddy
I hear ya. I just ran into this yesterday as well.

What I did to correct the issue was to add the email address to the
/etc/spamdyke/whitelist_recipients file.

The recipients mail server was an exchange server(yuck bad word) but it used
postini to screen their spam.

The rDNS resolved back to postini and not what they had in their dns
records.

I finally just gave up trying to explain it and found I could add the
address to the spamdyke whitelist. Solved

It for me. And that way you not whitelisting and entire domain that could be
a spammer.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

that. Spamdyke false positives are practically nonexistent though, so you
might want to just leave spamdyke active and not tell him about it. Then

it'll cause on your server as well as the trouble of configuring spamdyke.
 ;)

Even if Spamdyke is correct, it does not mean that the end behaviour
is what the customer expects.

I have ran into issues where customers haven't received email they
were expecting because of Spamdyke rejecting a message because of
missing reserve dns. And it does not help telling the customer that
the sending server is not properly configured, if they can receive the
same email with their Gmail or some other account...

I have been playing around with an idea that I should create a page
for each customer where they could check the sending addresses for
denied messages. So if there is a real message denied I could then
offer an option to white list that mail server or sending address, so
that the customer could try contacting the sender again.

Best,
Peter

TIMEOUT isn't usually indicative of a non-spam problem.

Which spamdyke version are you running? There was a problem that was
fixed (in 4.2.0 IIRC) that would leave a session hanging after another
rejection of some sort. No real harm except it tied up resources a
little bit.

Update to the current version if you haven't already. Simply re-run
qtp-install-spamdyke and that should do it for you.

There's a function built in to send an email to everyone in a domain. I
don't know how well that works or not though.

I think I'd look at modifying that capability to do it for all domains
on the server. That way you shouldn't need to mess with ezmlm or

Here is the shell script that I use for this. I have put the script in
/etc/cron.hourly/ so that it runs each hour. That might be over-kill - once
a day would probably work. I call it list-create:

#!/bin/sh

# 06/15/2010 - Scott Hughes sc...@renshawauto.net
# Initial creation of script to create an import text file of all
# users on system and then import it into an already created
# ezmlm mailing list.

echo All user mailing list generation...

# Generate mailing list import file
#/home/vpopmail/bin/vpopbull -n -V ~/alluserslist.txt

# Import List into ezmlm mailing list
~vpopmail/bin/vpopbull -n -V | ezmlm-sub ~vpopmail/domains/domain
name here/mailing list name here$

exit 0

I haven't found a way (yet) to delete the mailing list.

Thanks,
Scott

Why can't you have your script Rebuild the mailing list everytime it runs.
That way, it adds new accounts and purges old ones..??? There's got to be a
way to delete all of the address on the list, and then you can use your
script to repopulate it.

Eric,

I looked at and tried the 'built-in' function and it was horrible. It didn't
work correctly at all. I cannot currently find any documentation on it
(looking in the wiki). If you (or anyone) happens to know the name and
location of said function, I'll gladly take a look at it.

There's a function built in to send an email to everyone in a domain. I
don't know how well that works or not though.

I think I'd look at modifying that capability to do it for all domains
on the server. That way you shouldn't need to mess with ezmlm or
subscriptions.

 Joel

it's on the WIKI :D
but it's way too depth perhaps
http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/QMT-ISO_Manual_Guide#SquirrelMail

you need to install vlogin plugins for squirrelmail.
please see squirrelmail instruction how to add plugin the read the
plugin manual how to configure it
mine was editting file
/usr/share/squirrelmail/plugins/vlogin/data/config.php
if not mistaken these are the only variables I changed for my webmail on
http://pala.bo-tak.info

   $numberOfDotSections = 3;
   $removeFromFront = 0;

but there are array variable for multiple domains.

RE: [qmailtoaster] Re: Re; rsync question

2011-04-06 Thread Joel Eddy
rsync -avz IP OF System you want to connect
to:/home/vpopmail/domains/YOUR_DOMAIN.com/DIR_TO PULL
FROM/USER_ID/Maildir/new/
home/vpopmail/domains/YOUR_DOMAIN.com/USER_ID/Maildir/new

All one line of coarse. Works slicker that you know what. But I need to pull
an entire server. I may experiment with a script with multi line rsync for
each account on the server.

I'll have to set rsync to run as a daemon with a secrets file to bypass
typing the password every line.

You can also pull the cur directory and what ever other files you need by
changing the paths. And you can exclude files with rsync to. Coarse most of
you may already know that.

Anyway, thanks for the tip. I'll try and see what works.

Take Care

Can I not use a one liner to get rsync to pull everything from the old

-

I don't think I'd try to do it all in one command. I think I'd use the
find command as a driver for rsync, something like:
find /home/vpopmail/domains/mydomain.com \
   -name Maildir/new \
   -exec rsync -avh {} destination \;
Or use find to identify each user, then rsync the user with the command
you have.
Don't beat your head on the wall. ;)
P.S. It would be nice to see what you have that works for one user.

The installation went smoothly (yay). However, I am having a few

 they /are/ being entered correctly.

 My questions would be these:
 1) Has there been any change in the layout of the mysql database
records for vpopmail in the last year or so?
 2) Can anyone think of any reason why logins would be failing to
properly read the passwords from the database?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

What is everyone using to stop this kind of force attack on the pop side?

Slowness is often caused by DNS misconfiguration, from timeouts of
domain name lookups. I'd start by verifying that your DNS resolution
is operating properly. You should probably install a caching
 nameserver if you haven't already:
 # yum -y bind caching-nameserver

In short, you need to install it:
# yum -y install bind caching-nameserver

Then start it:
# chkconfig named on
# service start named

Then change /etc/resolv.conf as follows:
nameserver 127.0.0.1
You can have other nameservers listed after this for backup, but they
shouldn't be necessary.

Then test it with dig:
# dig qmailtoaster.com

Note that the server which answered the query is 127.0.0.1, which is

Would you care to update the wiki with this Joel? I think you could just
add it here:

Just to add my 2cents and that's about all it's worth.
If you go into the sql database and change the number 21474836nn
that's in there to say the number of actual accounts it will fix it.
The NEVER use vqadmin again. It is a pain in the A$$.

I use PHPMyAdmin for my MySQL but you use what ever you're comfy with.

Now for my 2 cents. KILL vqadmin it's busted period and has been for years.
I use QControl, buy the full version like I did if you have multiple
domains.

/plug
It's worth it in my opinion. And with that you get the man that knows whaaaz
up with Qmail.
/end of plug

Okay, I'll get off my soap box now.

I wouldn't be concerned with it. That value is bogus on my QMT hosts as
well. I have either 0 or 21474836nn, with no apparent rhyme or reason.
Some little bug in there I expect, but it doesn't appear to hinder
operation at all.

FWIW, vqadmin is also broken at this point. It's reportedly ok for
viewing things, but don't go updating anything with it. I don't even
install it myself. You don't really need it. If you want a gui tool for
that sort of thing, have a look at qcontrol.

Since you're new to QMT, I would recommend installing qmailtoaster-plus
if you haven't already (http://qtp.qmailtoaster.com), and also install
spamdyke (using the qtp-install-spamdyke script in QTP). There are other
goodies in QTP as well that you'll want to have a look at.

The repo is used by qtp-newmodel for spamassassin perl dependencies. The
script will install and use the repo as needed. The repo is installed as
disabled so that it won't be used for your other system yum updates
(unless you enable it manually).

qtp-newmodel invokes qtp-install-rpmforge, which installs the repo for
you. You can also invoke qtp-install-rpmforge from the cli.

Can you get that script from the the qtp site and give it a try?

Or you could modify the script you have, changing this line:

 Joel,
I don't know if you're subscribed to the devel list or not. Steve just
checked in a fixed qtp-install-rpmforge script (the url had changed).
Can you get that script from the the qtp site and give it a try?
 http://qtp.qmailtoaster.com/trac/export/138/bin/qtp-install-rpmforge

Or you could modify the script you have, changing this line:
 WEB_LOC=http://svn.rpmforge.net/svn/trunk/rpms/$PKGNAME
It's near the beginning of the script.

Please let us know how that works.

RE: [qmailtoaster] Firewall block

2010-07-27 Thread Joel Eddy
You can do what I've done. Build yourself a bridging firewall. Then set
iptables up in your bridging firewall to block any and all attempts to ssh
from outside your network.

This way you can do all kinds of cool stuff like packet filter out Viagra
and what ever else trips your trigger.

Is there a way to block all of the apnic IP address blocks at one time?

I am seeing a lot of ssh attempts from China. Since I don't send or receive
email with China, I'd like to just block them at the firewall en mass
(instead of one net block at a time).

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Scott

Just an FYI, I used webmin once upon a time and I remember
having to make a rule for iptables to pass the port 1.

Check your firewall rules iptables -n -v -L | more without quotes at the CLI
make sure port 1 is there.

Scott,

best bet is to go to webmin list/site for help. I installed webmin as well
and have had no issues.

I am sure you have this covered, but just in case some basics are:

are you trying to access it from the server itself? if so, you should use
its ip or localhost, ala https://localhost:1 or https://1.2.3.4:1 .

if over the internet you must use the servers ip address or FQDN, and any
routers/firewalls must allow that port through. if the server is running a
firewall (like ipchains) it also must allow that port to the ip address or
localhost (whichever you are using).

hope this helps or gets you pointed in the right direction.

Log into your account and download the new version to your server. The a
simple rpm -Uvh QControl-1.1-1.1.0.noarch.rpm will do it. The new
version should also be fixed so that it does not overwrite your current
user/pass to login.

[qmailtoaster] Re: dir_control

Pardon the stupid knob question if it's already been answered. If it has could
some one
add a link for it?

The issue appears to be that dir_control in MySql does not work.
I've added 260 accounts to the domain and it dropped them all in to the
directory in the domain.

vpopmail has access to the data base and all.

Where should I look for the problem?
