Eric, thanks a lot!

And the "undo" version would be to use 'vmoduser -x' ?

Great!

I don't know of any domain controls for this per se.

I think it'd be fairly simple to write a script that would process each
account in a domain, and invoke /home/vpopmail/bin/vmoduser to make the
changes. Let us know if you need a hand with that.

I would look into spamdyke, trust me.

I was stressing with spam, and was looking into RBLs and sa-updates, etc etc
etc…

Tried spamdyke and my stress was gone.

You probably will need to tune it a little, but will be once.

For my case at least it was…

Replace those files.
Run sa-update to update your spamassassin rules, and add more rules. You could
also look at Spamdyke and implement the greylisting feature.

RE: [qmailtoaster] Multiple IPs on one machine

2008-05-29 Thread Sergio Minini {NETKEY}
Now that's the issue have been raised,
what happens with mailing-lists? Do you get your IP blacklisted by hosting and
managing a customers' mailing-list, let's say with EZLM as this
qmailtoater-list?

If possible, I'd rather not have another box to manage - physical or virtual. If
that's the route I have to go, then that's the route I'll go.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

RE: [qmailtoaster] Duplicate Mail Receives

2008-05-28 Thread Sergio Minini {NETKEY}
Hi Dan,
you can try to search this issue on the list archives.
It was somehow covered last week in this topic:
http://www.mail-archive.com/qmailtoaster-list@qmailtoaster.com/msg18986.html
Most of the times, duplicates come when a session times-out, with Clam and/or
SA.

Hope this helps.- Sergio

I have been battling this problem for over a month now. Everyone in my entire
company randomly gets duplicates. They appear in Outlook and in Webmail. The
duplicates come at random time intervals, sometimes 45 minutes later, sometimes
3 hours. It’s just completely random.

My .qmail file is:

|/var/qmail/bin/preline /usr/bin/maildrop -A 'Content-Filter: maildrop-toaster'
/etc/mail/mailfilter

RE: [qmailtoaster] Load balancing

2008-05-23 Thread Sergio Minini {NETKEY}
After a trial-error approach, I set mine to 400. Maybe in better hardware is too
high, but's been working fine in my old server.
I found out this helped when I got dups with large attachments.

[qmailtoaster] how to filter relay

2008-05-22 Thread Sergio Minini {NETKEY}
Hi list,
I have a customer who has an in-house Mdaemon server and only relays through my
SMTP when Mdaemon fails.
Mdaemon authenticates with an account "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" and is allowed to
relay without problems, even though the original sender is "[EMAIL PROTECTED]"

Is there a way, with this scenario, to block relaying for mails with
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]" and "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", but allowing relay for all the
other
users of this domain? (Always authenticating with "[EMAIL PROTECTED]")

Hope I made myself clear.
Thanks!

Sure. fechmail was a program written for back in the old dial-up days - you
would configure your system to dial up and have fetchmail grab your various
email accounts and deliver them to the mail system on your local machine. It's
grown into other areas and continues to solve issues like this from time to
time.
Basically fetchmail will grab from any mailhost it can talk to (POP3, IMAP,
etc.) which you configure using a config file (.fetchmailrc). Here's an edited
example of one that I used to use to grab my wife's Rollins College email and
deliver it to her account on my QMT machine before she graduated and we started
paying back the loan:

set postmaster [EMAIL PROTECTED]
set syslog

poll gw.rollins.edu protocol imap authenticate password
user "her_rollins_username"
password "her_rollins_password"
is "her_qmt_username" # leave off the @domain part
smtpaddress v2gnu.com

that would log into her Rollins IMAP account, download any new messages and the
deliver them to [EMAIL PROTECTED] when the fetmail command was called
during a cron.
There are ways of running the incoming mail through a maildrop/mailfilter script
but that was more than I needed for this simple application.
Hope that helps some. Here's fetchmail's website
(http://fetchmail.berlios.de/).

I had the issue of outlook crashing all the time and leaving multiple
outlook.exe's running, I found it easy to just make a shortcut on the desktop
called "fix crashed outlook" which linked to a batch file under c:\batch\

inside the batch file I put

taskkill /f /im outlook.exe

that worked wonderfully for my cleints who refused to reboot their machines, I
even had one set to run this via schedualed task, every day at 3am, its still
running everyday he leaves outlook on, he comes back and outlook is shut, he
complained about it for a while, but then he realised that it wasn't hanging any
more in the middle of the day, heh

RE: [qmailtoaster] Outlook 2003 hangs

2008-03-27 Thread Sergio Minini {NETKEY}
Hi Jake
With this kind of users, i've find useful in the past the "placebo approach" and
tell them to compact their PST files.
Weird thing is that sometimes it solved things!!
(Once, they kept downloading OLD messages stored in the server everytime they
checked their mailbox. That was 150+ mails every a couple of minutes. And
compacting did the trick)

Not much help, but might gain you some time.

[qmailtoaster] vacation notices

Just a quick question before (finally!) going on holidays:
I have an account ( [EMAIL PROTECTED]) that forwards to my e-mail ([EMAIL

the

The thing is that, if I am setting an auto-responder myself, is there a way to
avoid sending an auto-reply when the mail was forwarded from [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks!

[qmailtoaster] Some basic config questions

2008-02-20 Thread Sergio Minini {NETKEY}
Hi List,
I was wondering if there is a way to limit the size of attachments that my
users/remote senders can send through this box.

And how about limiting the number of recipients for each message?
What is less hard on the server: sending a mail to 50 rcpts or 5 mails to 10
each?

Thanks! Sergio

PS: This kind of config would be great if we could make it from the new Web UI.

RE: [qmailtoaster] server overload

2008-02-20 Thread Sergio Minini {NETKEY}
Thanks Dan & Eric.
Entries where made exactly as you told me, and I double checked it with what you
sent here.
I did a full stop when I added this, and the server was rebooted for other
reasons a couple of days after.

But on Monday we had an unusual overload, and I though if it might be somehow
related to the change of settings.
I couldnt make sense why or how.

Maybe it was just an unusual overload...

Thanks- Sergio

RE: [qmailtoaster] dropping failed addresses

2008-02-11 Thread Sergio Minini {NETKEY}
Thanks Dan,
It was there, only that this one box is a non-QMT installation and the
qmailadmin is in Spanish and poorly translated, so I wasn't sure what "Borrar la
cuenta principal receptora " at the botton was and "Todos los mensajes de
cuentas no definidas seran borrados" at the top meant.
(I speak Spanish BTW, but that link means "delete main account" so I was
reluctant to touch it before you told me)

Best regards- Sergio

Subject: Re: [qmailtoaster] dropping failed addresses

If you're using QMT, then you have the qmailadmin web interface:
 - Login as an admin user (like postmaster), then open the "Email Accounts" link
   At the top of the window you'll see your current setting (IMHO, it should
show: CatchAll: Deleted)
   Along the bottom of the page, you'll see links for setting "catchall" to
deleted/bounced/account:
 Deleted means invalid addresses are deleted
 Bounced means you report back to the sender that you couldn't deliver the
mail because there was no user (mailbox) by that name
 Account will ask you for the name of an account where you'll store all that
crap
(Aside: I had a user that was a REAL pain in my backside that I once assigned as
the catchall account -- just being mean on my part!)

You can also do this on the command line (naturally). The control file is
actually located in
  /home/vpopmail/domains/YOURDOMAIN/.qmail-default
The toaster-default is that the entry looks like:
  | /home/vpopmail/bin/vdelivermail '' bounce-no-mailbox  (note: those are two
single-quote characters, not a single double-quote character)
Sinply change the "bounce-no-mailbox" to "delete" so the line looks like
  | /home/vpopmail/bin/vdelivermail '' delete

BTW: This is the interface description of how QMail uses the vpopmail package to
control mail delivery!

I hope this helps. someone!

So, regardless of the behavior of the end-user MTA, any "back-splash" would be

non-existent mailboxes is because of SPAM issues... SPAM producers long-ago
figured out how to "address harvest" from mail servers that bounce erroneous
addresses. Messages that DON'T bounce from said poorly configured servers are
then SOLD as "confirmed, valid user addresses" to other spammers -- thus helping
you, the poor novice mail administrator, get the word out that you are

RE: [qmailtoaster] Tarpit configuration

2008-01-09 Thread Sergio Minini {NETKEY}
I dont have a great server either, but I didn't notice any problems with mail
processing performance.
It did reduce almost 90% of the spam through our server.

The good thing is that it only requires a line in your smtpd-run script, so if
you notice that something is not going well, you can just remove the line and
your're back with your previous setup.

Searching the list archive, I found that someone recalled problems with the
.qmail files and deleting recreating the user account.
I did so, and I still has this problem, not sure now b/c the message was sent
before I did so. However the user dir and Maildir does not have a qmail file, as
none of the users of that domain and most of the mails accounts, so that should
be fine.

I should add, that this box is a non-QMT installation, but I would really
appreciate your comments and help on this one, that's getting really annoying!

Help much appreciated.
Regards, Sergio

[qmailtoaster] AWSTATS and QMAIL

2007-11-20 Thread Sergio Minini {NETKEY}
Hey there.
Has anyone set up AWSTATS and Qmail?
Was it easy? Did it make any benefit to you? What kind of info can you get from
it?

I use it for web servers and it's OK, and now I saw that you can use it with
mail logs, so I was wondering whether or not it was useful.

Thanks- Sergio

[qmailtoaster] graylisting

2007-11-15 Thread Sergio Minini {NETKEY}
Hi list.
Anyone has a script (or knows how to make one?) to clean all the empty
graylisting files that spamdyke creates? And what about the
non-existant-accounts dirs?
Thanks!
Sergio

PS: spamdyke rules! anyone knows if there is something like that for Mdaemon??

RE: [qmailtoaster] spamdyke policy template

I added the policy-url and a webpage based in your suggestion.
Is there a way to test it and see what it looks like in a rejected mail?

I ran --config-test and everything seems OK.

Thanks
Sergio

Anyone has a spamdyke policy-url defined?
Can I take a look at it to check what to explain as mail policy?

Thanks!

Thanks Jake,
now date format makes more sense.
Still wondering about the loss issue.

-Original Message-

Look at the logs like this:
tail current | tai64nlocal
In other words, pipe the output through tai64nlocal. Qmail uses it's own
time-stamps (@400) to keep track of the time. tai64nlocal will convert this time
back to human-readable.

[qmailtoaster] lost emails

2007-11-06 Thread Sergio Minini {NETKEY}
Hi list!

I got this situation where a customer complaints that emails to his clients
never reach its recipients, but the give no rebounds and/or errors.

Looking at the logs at /var/log/qmail/qmail-send/current I found those lines:
  _

@4000472f21cc222a3934 new msg 8175708
@4000472f21cc222a548c info msg 8175708: bytes 6822 from <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

@4000472f21cf2df67cb4 end msg 8175708

  _

The recipient IP is mx1.fibertel.com.ar so I can assume it reached its
destination. Of course, it is a BIG ISP, so its a dead end trying to get in
touch with support there.

Is there anything else I could check?
I couldn't make any sense in the log about date/time of the message. what does
@4000 means?

Thanks for your help-
Sergio

RE: [qmailtoaster] SA Learn & Bayes

Ok, i'll try to take a closer look.
Which were the lines you told me to look for in your first reply?
The ones that could tell me something about wheter SA is 'learning' or not.

Thanks!

-Original Message-
 You'll probably need to fix those issues first - sometimes spamassassin won't
run with broken things.
And you also need to have fed 200 spam messages to it, AND fed it 200 ham
messages as well. It needs to see both sides before it can work right.

RE: [qmailtoaster] SA Learn & Bayes

2007-10-19 Thread Sergio Minini {NETKEY}
Jake, what should I look for?
I get an endless list of items, ending with a
[19469] warn: lint: 7 issues detected, please rerun with debug enabled for more
information

I am sure its way over 200+ msgs now, and it was working before I added the
SA-script. I just added it to update the filters, but was flagging several
messages even before the cronned script.

Thanks!

You'll see into in 'spamassassin -D --lint'.
It needs 200+ messages (ham AND spam) to even start working.

Should I create this file? Contents?

[qmailtoaster] squirrel rules

2007-09-17 Thread Sergio Minini {NETKEY}
Hey there!
I set up a rule in my webmail with squirrel to send all msgs tagged **SPAM** to
the Trash. But I found out that I downloaded all the mails with Thunderbird and
the rule only did run when I logged in to squirrel.

So, is there a way to apply the filters when messages arrive to my user inbox,
w/o login in to squirrel or downloading the messages with POP3?

Thanks! Sergio

[qmailtoaster] SA-learn scrip

I implemented the script in

Anyone has any comments, warnings and or tips about it?

Its not in the QMT installation but on other productive QM.
I hope it does improve our SA detection.

RE: [qmailtoaster] Introducing myself

2007-09-11 Thread Sergio Minini {NETKEY}
I have lots of questions! how to train SA, how to define spam processing rules,
SPFs, etc, etc.
I will read the wiki and all the stuff i can find though.

If you can point me a good place to start, like a QMT 101 or something it should
be fine.
I thought the web GUI was for every management task :-D
