Dan's suggestion is indeed the simplest solution. I don't know to what degree qmailadmin can be used to manage list accounts though. Some time ago though, I was frustrated by ezmlm's lack of a web interface for users to manage their list account. So I set up Mailman to work with QMT, and wrote up how to do it (because I would likely forget): http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/Mailman Mailman is head and shoulders above any other FOSS list processing software out there, and is actively developed and maintained. FWIW, I even went so far as to implement the web portion of Mailman on a separate host from the mail portion. That hasn't apparently been done very often (although it makes logical sense to me). In the long run, I'd like to have mailman available as an alternative list processing package in QMT. I don't expect that to happen any time soon, but following the wiki directions above should get you a mailman setup running with QMT quite nicely in a reasonably short amount of time. One of my users discovered it before I did! I might add that any user can be given postmaster rights as well (doesn't need to be postmaster@). I believe /home/vpopmail/bin/vmoduser allows you to do that. In the case of lists, if the user is a moderator of a list, the list options will be there for them, as well as the lists to which they moderate. I'm not sure what shows up if you're just a list member -- I'll have to look into that! :-) Indeed. A web interface which allows members to manage their own account is what appears to be missing with ezmlm/qmailadmin. Could be that I've missed something though. QmailAdmin has MOST of the controls you need for ezmlm -- list/add/remove subscribers, list/add/remove moderators, as well as the ability to edit most list behaviors (who can post, how much moderation is involved, how subscribe/unsubscribe requests are handled, archiving/indexing options, and so on. *The biggest problem for most of US (admins) is that we assume qmailadmin is just for admins!* After all, we /almost never/ use any account other than *postmaster*! The best thing to do imo is to disable domainkeys. There are posts in the archive and possibly the wiki on how to do that. DKIM, on the other hand, is an entirely different animal. I would not like to disable this altogether. I used to think signing was working reliably. I haven't had time to look into this recent problem yet, but that was on an incoming message though so I guess outbound stuff is still ok. I'm very curious as to why DK was trying to sign an inbound message. Makes me think I might have something misconfigured somewhere. Definitely a back burner problem for me presently. Also, would enablin the spamassassin domainkey check be an alternative to having simscan/qmailq do it? I don't know off hand, but that sounds reasonable to me. Please let us know if you look into it. I spent over an hour messing with mailman and almost had it set up and was reading about other lists and found Pommo. It took about 3 minutes to setup. I'll let you know how it works. Mailman may be powerful, but it's setup procedure sucks. Mailman appears to be a mailing list like this one, where you can have conversations, where PoMMo appears to be a newsletter "one way" type. Having not delved into Mailman too deeply yet, it may in fact accomplish that as well. PoMMo is certainly suited perfectly for what I'm doing and may be more powerful than it appears at first glance. It's better to use spamdyke to do this (block and whitelist). Spamdyke has much more flexibility. If you don't have spamdyke installed yet, you should do so. The thing I'm worried about is our mail server is used by our customers that want to send pages through our system. There are hundreds of emails that get processed everyday and I can't get all of them into the whitelist. The pages are very important to emergency services. I don't want to inadvertently block a doctor from getting a page. I was able to unblock the ip address and I am getting qmailtoaster emails now. I had to just block around it. You can have separate rules by domain or even by user if need be. Once size often does not fit all. You might want to whitelist recipient addresses that are for emergency services. There will most likely be very few if any cases beyond that which you would need to whitelist, providing you implement rules appropriate to your situation. But I also just subscribed to this list with a googlemail address where the mails in question will hopefully arrive - that way I can try to find out what is wrong with the way it is now. using dkim is no alternative insofar as I can't control who uses dk to sign emails that I receive and i prefer having the dk verification not done by spamassassin if possible. :-) I guess if all else fails I will still have to disable verification in tcp.cdb and have spamassassin do it, though. Why can't you have your script "Rebuild" the mailing list everytime it runs. That way, it adds new accounts and purges old ones..??? There's got to be a way to delete all of the address on the list, and then you can use your script to repopulate it. I have not been able to find a way to automatically delete the mailing list in question. I did find a way to create a mailing list from the command line but of course without deleting it first that does no good. I just manually deleted the mailing list using qmailadmin, re-created it, then let my script re-populate it. Also, I've move the list-create script to cron.daily instead of cron.hourly. It'd be very nice to have a throttling mechanism for outbound messages. I think a patch for qmail-remote might be appropriate. I'm thinking something that would limit the frequency with which outbound messages are sent from any user. This could be a global parameter of seconds (as /var/qmail/control/queuelifetime is). qmail-remote would keep a time stamp of the last message sent by each user, and check the previous time against the current time when sending a message. If the time has elapsed, send the message, else leave the message in the queue. Would someone with a little C coding prowess care to delve into the qmail-remote program? I don't know if postfix can handle this sort of thing or not. If it can, it might be worth looking into setting up postfix as an outbound relay to handle this.
