It'd be very nice to have a throttling mechanism for outbound messages. I think a patch for qmail-remote might be appropriate. I'm thinking something that would limit the frequency with which outbound messages are sent from any user. This could be a global parameter of seconds (as /var/qmail/control/queuelifetime is). qmail-remote would keep a time stamp of the last message sent by each user, and check the previous time against the current time when sending a message. If the time has elapsed, send the message, else leave the message in the queue. Would someone with a little C coding prowess care to delve into the qmail-remote program? I don't know if postfix can handle this sort of thing or not. If it can, it might be worth looking into setting up postfix as an outbound relay to handle this.
