do you remember your dosage? i got up to 150mg 3xa day. i was having too many side effects, one being i was awake all night. i just went down to 150mg twice a day but i'm considering lowering even more. maybe 100mg twice a day. it's really helped me. i'm also in remission for cancer so i'm really not thinking about going off it completely. at this point, i'm looking for quality of life. (started lyrica 3 mos ago0 dianna I was on lyrica for nerve pain right after my injury occurred. It worked well for me, but I wanted to stop as many medications as possible. I remember lyrica being one of the hardest meds to stop. It took a couple of tries. I reduced the dose slowly. A few times I needed to increase the dose because the pain would return. So I stayed at the higher dose for about a month, then reduced the dose again. It took time, but eventually I stopped taking it and I haven't needed it since then. At first I couldn't make it a quarter mile and if I fell over I couldn't get back up. I went to GNC and started buying ripped fuel. I would take 2 capsules and hit the streets and within a few months I was doing 3+ miles a day with energy to spare. [QUAD-L] Lyrica + Narcotics
>From the school of hard knocks: I have been trying to ween back my narcotics since starting Lyrica. I have been taking 6 to 8 5mg vicodin for over 4 years. I have been using 4 10mg valiums for almost 33 years. Oxycontin for 3 years, 20mg 2 times a day. The Lyrica that I began using made me feel I could reduce my other pills. WRONG! Obviously, withdrawal from these drugs is more complicated than I had even dreamed. If any of you are in this situation, please talk to your doctor before trying at home detox. If it isn't done right it can be as dangerous to a quad as any other cause of AD. Withdrawal from these drugs can cause death to a normal person. It will reverse the positive effects of the lyrica and screw you up. When you take the lyrica just increase the mirilax or poly-glycolax. I have returned to my normal drug schedual and I'm doing well. I wanted to mention this to those of you with pain issues that are also on narcotics. best wishes to all, john

I was on 150 mg of alert that twice a day. My doctor put me on it for nerve pain but also to help with my spasms. I just don't like taking a lot of medicine and it made me to sleepy so I took myself off of it. I take hydrocodone 7.5/500 mg twice a day for pain. It works great for me and doesn't make me sleepy. Lyrica has become more popular and is working for a lot of people. I've been a nurse for 18 years but haven't been practicing since my accident in 2005. Responding to Remarks about having a Big Living Communities strickly for the Disabled People only with a SCI. I do believe if they can provide Prisons for the People that have killed, robbed, stoled, and done other terrible things, The States aughta build places for the less fortunate People that have had either accidents or God for bid born with a desease that need a Place to Live out a Productive Life if possible at all. Give also People that have lost their jobs because of closing down of a Plant of some kind or place. All those that are doing well with Family is all good and well it's just Great. But can People once placed get along with all who live their where it can work like we expect it too!! It is absolutely ludicrous these laws are still on the books. If they would repeal these laws I could eliminate 90% of my medication. It is absolutely wonderful at relieving spasms, or so I am told. The nerve pain in my neck would probably be diminished also. They could go set up a watch on a nightclub where extacy and coke are being sold in bulk to teens or they could bust the 40 yld guy sittin at home, watching cartoons, eating a twinkie. Pot is no longer a big money crime drug. So many people grow their own and theres virtually no violent crime attached to it. It is Kentucky's #1 cash crop. The reduculous part is when I see them smuggling it in from mexiico when everyone knows, Canada has the good stuff. The best stuff comes from basements and is grown using hydroponics. If they choose to arrest me for it I'll cost them about $6500 a day to keep in custody at a local hospital and I haven't got the money to pay a fine. The only reason pot is illegal is because a study done in the 1930's stated that marijuana made blackl and hispanic men want to rape white women. This was also a time when it was illegal to marry between races in many states. Just think of all the space we would have in jails and prisons if we dumped that one stupid law and taxed the stuff. It's usually called a kong. Its a chew toy the dog associates with play and affection with is his reward for performing tasks. Amazingly enough, service dogs for the blind rarely rely on such toys. The service dogs are so much smarter than drug or bomb dogs that they are often capable of getting their own food and water. I'm not putting drug dogs down because they do a fabulous job, and the bomb sniffers have saved thousands of lives. I'm sure some are probably as smart as service dogs. I did see a guy on tv who had his dog trained to sit in front of people with the largest amount of cash when given the command "where's the money?". lol I do love dogs and wish I had one. john In a message dated 10/23/2006 6:00:41 PM Eastern Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Drug dogs are rewarded with playtime. Hi O'C, The State laws were passed before the Federal ones, but it was in the 1900's that the first laws appeared. The three main reasons brought about State laws against marijuana are immigration from Mexico, the substitution concept, and religion. http://www.forces.org/articles/files/whiteb/white04.htm The first criminal law at the Federal level was in 1914, and comes down to the biggest reason marijuana is still illegal today, money! http://www.forces.org/articles/files/whiteb/white03.htm With Love, CtrlAltDel aka DaveC4/5 Complete - 30 Years PostTexas, USA [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I heard that in the 1800s, they decided to outlaw something and pot was considered to be the black man's drug of choice so they outlawed that instead of alcohol, the white man's drug of choice. Re: [QUAD-L] LYRICA
My two cents on pain, I never had much painuntill almost 15 years post. The doctors were always tellin me its in my head, and I would smirk, like DUH! So I started smoking pot and it helped me get to sleep, I swear ItWorked. I began using advil and aspirin cominations then tylenol. Y'all can say it doesn't do anything but it would take the edge off and I'd stop sweating and shaking. The doctor that I have now was horrified and asked if I'd ever had anything else that worked (beside pot). I had vicodin from my sister one night and I slept better than I could remember. I told him about it and my tylenol habit and he gave me a script for 240 vicodins a month and glyco-lax for the side effect. These aren't the strongest but as I deform and grow older I am starting to feel the old pain again. You guys have described your pain as pins and needles. Some of you don't even try to describe it and I think I know what your feeling. I feel as if I'm slowly twisting and being bent. I begin to sweat and loose the ability to concentrate. Now what I'm feeling turns to full blown dysreflexia episode. There is no scale of pain because I'm on the verge of a stroke and breathing has become difficult. At this point I drop 3 valiums and 2 hydrocodones. Roll it back to where I feel like I'm being bent and twisted,,take 2 hydrocones. episode subsides. Although I will still need to lay back and relax, but I think it is from the hydrocone causing me to be drowsey. I don't know if this helps anyone but my point is, don't wait to take the pain meds even if it is a slight overdose. john In a message dated 10/21/2006 4:41:31 PM Eastern Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Thanks CorieI agree , Hard to understand why some people must endure so much pain., I guess we will just try to hang in there and take life a day at a time. Hi Dan, My pain had changed though the years and it also changes with the seasons and weather. When I think about it I never know what to expect day to day. I am just so thankful to know that I woke up. When I am sitting up I will usually do ok. I can tilt / recline and even in summer I might have a light blanket on me--I have to use one in the car too. My body ' is all weird ,,and when I am cold I hurt. Some days when I am hurting in my ribs I do have pain patches that I can wear, and that helps alot. My body rebels when I am being put back in the bed. I have several spasms that usually hits my legs and butt area. In about 30 minutes they are not bad. I sleep in a hospital bed with a special mattress ,but it isn't a electric air mattress. My doctor has tried in the past to get me one ,but I didn' t qualify for one because I didn't have sores or ulcers. Pain doesn't mean anything. One day those folks will learn about pain. Hi, Has anyone had any luck with the new med lyrica? I remember Dan told me it didnt work for him. If anyone has had any luck how many mgs are u on? Thanks, ron
Re: [QUAD-L] Lyrica
I had extreme pain and had to also take methadone on top of 1200 mg of neurontin 3 times a day and still had pain. I now take 200 mg of lyrica 3 times a day and oxycondone 2 times a day and often skip that. Aside from the extreme headaches as I came off of the neurontin that are now finally gone, the lyrica is working great. My pain level is much less than it was when I was taking the neurontin. It took me a while to notice because I was taking very low doses as I was cutting the neurontin until I finally was only taking lyrica and then that took about a week to start to feel the full effects. I'm sure it's not going to work the same for everyone but I would give it a chance. Makes me somewhat drowsy, somewhat cloudy headed. It is manageable, but not something I wish to continue if I receive no relief from pain. Steve - C4, 18 years

Let me know if you get dry mouth. Again I stopped taking Neurontin for 5 days, only take 900mg, & now I have things crawling on me & biting me. Not really but that is what it feels like. Finally broke down & took a Neurontin at lunch. Couldn't take the pain any more. KK
[QUAD-L] Lyrica-- to Ron and others interested
Hey Ron, they started me on Lyrica today. 75ml. twice a day--The doctor said it would take 2 weeks to really know if it is helping, he said some people can tell the difference in a week but he wants me to try it for a month then see him again to check the results. Dan c-6 8.8 yrs. post

If it's IN the Neurontin family *I* would be leery. It took me over a year to get off Neurontin and the process was hell. I think Greg had the same experience. Further . Drs have been pushing Neurontin for MANY folks (not just SCIs or MS individuals) for years now so they must be getting kickbacks big time. I'll look up the Lryica drug to see it's properties, etc. Lori Michaelson C4/5 complete quad, 25 years post Tucson, AZ ---Original Message--- From: ~LittleQuad~ Date: 01/20/06 23:51:43 To: Corie Jones; Quad-list post Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] Lyrica i've been on 25mg for 3 weeks, took week for effect... started on 50mg today... 300mg? geez do u get sleepy etc??
