RE: [QUAD-L] AD / Oxygen
Hello everybody, I too suffer from the feeling of not getting enough oxygen, its worse when I lay down and when I'm to hot. My stats cane be normal but I still feel panic, zanx helps and a breathing treatment helps with the tight feeling in my chest. I keep oxygen on hand but seldom use it, glad to have input on this subject I thought I was the only one that suffered with this. Oh yea! I use saline down my track to, it loosens up the secretions. I got overheated during the night, not much sleep. Then just as I got up, my nose got stuffed up from allergies. Though I wasn't in AD (autonomic Distraflexia), I had that same kind of feelings. Like not getting enough oxygen, your too hot, your too cold, you want to get up, but the you want to lay down, almost a panic feeling. The more you think about it, the worse it gets. My blood pressure, heart rate, temps, all ok, just the feeling of not getting enough oxygen. This ever happen to you? I feel like I'd like to have an oxygen take close by, just for those bad days. I know it's all in my head, but I wonder if it would help. Greg

Hi, Greg...I know exactly what you mean, this happens to me also at times. Luckily for me my wife sleeps by me and can help by turning me or getting me a med to help relax me. Dan H. Re: [QUAD-L] AD / Oxygen
AD can be varied in the symptoms. Sounds like you had it in a more mild form. When you become a quad you don't control your hypothalmus like you should, if at all. This puts out hormones that let you survive in a wide range of temperatures. It does other stuff too. When you become hypothermic and hypersensative at the same time, you got AD going. Once I passed out in a hydrotherapy tank. The lady in charge was really upset and I slept for 3 days. I'm sure glad your not still cooking. GregI also forgot to mention that I keep a small hand held Albuteral spray with my meds and usually during summer months , if I overheat or can't get enough oxygen ... I just inhale a couple of sprays thru my mouth and in a short time feel much better.Dan H. Did you guys ever consider a pulse/ox device? That way you would know if you truly were short of oxygen. Re: [QUAD-L] AD / Oxygen
Too warm in bed brings this on in me. Also, Mirapex (for restless legs - spasms) seems to have something to do with it as does Melatonin (for sleep). Maybe I'll switch back to booze. I REALLY hate the panic attacks. I have to get up and sit in front of a fan or go outside in the open. Glad I'm not alone. Dave In a message dated 11/5/2007 9:47:55 A.M. Re: [QUAD-L] AD / Oxygen
Believe me that Oxygen is dispensed by RX only. You a script from a doctor for even a small amount, so be aware before hand. Check out this website and let me know what you think. _www.hqinc.net_ (http://www.hqinc.net) It's just the tool necessary for any Quad. Best Wishes In a message dated 11/5/2007 10:47:55 A.M. Re: [QUAD-L] AD / Oxygen
Hey Greg (and Dan), Well, I just spent 15 minutes dictating and correcting an e-mail to you and the whole computer shut down. Try number two! I have had asthma since I was very little (hereditary). But it is only triggered by a three or four things. These are animal dander, humidity, the powder found in latex gloves, and sometimes nerves. Although very rarely the latter. Living here in the desert with such low humidity has never triggered an asthma attack. But I remember when we lived in Virginia seven years ago my room would get stuffy and I would take a puff of albuterol from my inhaler many mornings before my husband went to work when I would be alone. That brought nerves into it a little. I don't think I would go to the extreme of having an oxygen tank unless you were diagnosed with some type of lung problem. Perhaps when you do get overheated (stufy room too maybe) along with anxiety you are experiencing a form of asthma. Like Dan, just a puff for two of albuterol from my inhaler helps me breathe better no matter what the case. I have not used it in a long, long, long time but it is always in my backpack just in case.
