It's ok for people who like playing around with new toys, have a high frustration tolerance and are happy to work around bugs every 2nd time they use it. Obviously the pre-release testing (I don't call it beta testing since IMHO the software hasn't entered a beta maturity yet) completely excluded MYSB. Although the American MYSB server seems to be a little more reliable and/or better configured than its European counterpart, there are reports about almost the same issues with the American server. Anyway, the mentioned Mom is supposed to use the Radio only via MYSB. So good luck to explain her why buttons stops to respond, connection to MYSB is lost all the time and the menu item to reconnect doesn't work etc. At least she is not supposed to use it as bedside radio. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Good Christmas gift for Mom?
I can't recommend it as a gift yet, or even for a guest bedroom. I was going to order two for reasonably tech savvy friends, but decided against it. The UI is hardly intuitive; people can pick up an iPod and figure it out, but not the SqueezeBox. Integration with iTunes is still fair, at best. Primary access to stations don't work (BBC, for a glaring example). Having to educate someone that, Oh, the BBC on the Radio section doesn't work, even though it says 'Staff Picks,' you need to go to this special place, but every other station you get in the Radio place, well, except those that you need to open this other app for... just doesn't fly. The alarm is completely unreliable if your internet connection or server is the least bit flaky. Backup alarms do not play, even in the US, even with a local server. -- jef jef's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30360 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72540 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

The only part of the manual that legally have to be in local language in EU is the safety part of the manual . (don't use your boom in the bath if connected to the mains , or don't try to brush your teeth with your new chainsaw ) But it is good business practice to provide instructions that are intelligible to the intended customer ;) By all means spare me from those computer generated translations other CE manufacturers use. Computer generated translations is usually the case with manuals these days, the final insult to ones sensibilities . If logitech choose this way with their manual I would consider not buying out of general principle, there is technical writers and translators generally available even for such a small language as Swedish . -- Mnyb Main hifi: SB3 (soon to replaced by a Touch :) It is on preorder) Bedroom/Office: Boom Kitchen: Receiver (soon to be replaced by my SB3 and the SBRto be stuffed in a box in the attic ) I use a Controller various ir-remotes and a Eee-PC with squeezeplay to controll this Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72540 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
