Just a guess: I am thinking that maybe because the whole world is
downloading a new firmware releases this mysb.com-network is not stable
enough for alarms :( ? So maybe this situation 'fixes' itself after a
couple of weeks (but this wouldn't help you right now of course).

 a) Sometimes the alarm dont go off at all

Are you configuring your alarm always and exclusivly on the Radio ?
If you do it via MySB.com thats the first thing you should stop be
doing (as you can never be sure, that the alarm gets synced to the
Radio in time).

If you configure alarms on the Radio and it still fails to sound the
alarm completly see my point b)

 b) If it do go off, 50% of the times it sounds for 5 sec then shuts
 itself

Out of interest for you point b)
I'd be interested if you can provide logs from the Radio.
For this you have to enable remote access (in the advanced settings),
connect with the program 'WinSCP' and download the file
'/var/log/messages' right after you experienced the alarm just stops.
If I find more time I might even look into the source to see if
logitech changed something to the bad.

Thats the only help I can provide at the time.

(Please don't use my attempt to help for ranting about alarms or the
architechture because then I'm very fast off this thread.)

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] My 7.5.1 experience so far.....

2010-06-20 Thread Jukebox

Hi,

I am using my squeezebox radio as an alarm clock in my bedroom and I am
experiencing the following issues (connected to MySB server):

1. The alarm clock screen shows only a very small clock that you cannot
read even if you are only 1m away.
-- This has been mentioned already many times in the forum but it
seems that this is not fixed. Unfortunately, the patch installer seems
not to work any more so for me there is currently no solution for this.
-- This is a real bug for me and one reason why I think about
returning the squeezebox radio. For me reading the clock while the
alarm is on is a basic requirement!

2. No auto play at startup:
If you listen to a internet radio station and then switch off the radio
(standby mode) and then wake up in the morning (by yourself and not
through an alarm) and you want to listen to the radio again you have to
switch on the SB radio and then hit the play button.
-- This is almost not possible in a dark bedroom and this is a basic
feature fro me! Every radio starts playing, if you switch it on! If
this is not fixed soon, I will sell the radio because it cannot be used
as a bedroom radio this way!!!

It seems that logitech puts a lot of effort into the apps and other
fancy stuff but does not implement the basic features of a alarm
clock/bedroom radio.

Thanks for your reply.

I just checked this and it doesn't work!
After pressing the preset, the radio wakes up from standby and shows
the internet station but it switches from stop to pause! You have to
hit the play button afterwards in order to start the audio stream.

This is really annoying because you cannot find the play button easily
when it is dark.

Any other solutions?

Try rebooting the radio. You won't lose your presets. Turn the radio

Then try the preset method.

2010-06-20 Thread toby10

I don't use alarms, but my Radio on MySB or SBS ...

- correctly maintains Power state (Off or Standby), does not turn
itself on nor go from Off to Standby by itself.
I wonder if Alarms are causing these odd Power state changes?

- pressing Play or any Preset from Standby state correctly and
instantly plays what it is supposed too

- no *3-beep* tones here (though I do have all audio beeps turned off
in Settings Sound Effects)

- I do still get the Radio self reboot whether playing or just in
Standby (now very rare, maybe once per week as far as I can tell)

- station art is still dodgy and completely random
Playing same stream:
--- sometimes shows, sometimes not
--- sometimes will show on initial play but then disappears after 5
seconds
--- sometimes will show for hours

WinXP SBS 7.5.1 US MySB servers

Suggestions tips:
- always reboot Radio after any FW update (press and hold OFF)
- if switching between SBS and MySB upgrade prompts should not display
if SBS and MySB are the same FW version
- you can dismiss Radio FW update prompts (annoying, I know) by
selecting Help from the update prompt then hitting the Home button

It's about time these Forums had a better moderation policy.
Self-moderation in its current form is blatantly no longer working.

Maybe we should adopt the same approach as that now used for Bug

Or perhaps we should just have a separate sub-forum for ranting, and a
few more Mods. I have no problem with peoples right to free speech...

On the other hand, I really don't appreciate being told what these
forums allegedly are for by people who have only just joined them!

This is supposed to be a community - it says so at the top of the

The normal rules of communities apply - if you don't like the

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Back off

2010-06-20 Thread bluegaspode

Hi Nazgul,

I for my part only tell members that repeat their rants over and over
again that I don't want to listen to it anymore.

And even telling those users that their complaints were better
somewhere else in my opinion is a way of helping them (thats the reason
I'm here - to help them) - because as often pointed out - ranting here
is the least effective way of getting anything changed.
As some might not know this it is our task to point this out.

This has nothing to do with 'posting about the poster'.

Also in a community to be staying alive its important to keep a good
tone and a constructive environment. Otherwise the community would be
dying (or we had a forum which only consists of grumbling members).
This doesn't help anyone. Not you, not me and not logitech (though we
don't need to take care for logitech ;) )

'Back Off' definitely isn't the right tone, so I'm afraid I need to
tell you my opinion, that I'd like you to get over to other topics,
which are more constructive..
Describe your problems with your SB-devices, try to let yourself being
helped by the community. This is the reason that this forums exists.

The target audience for rants should be logitech. They listen at other
channels.

Thanks to all for the feedback.

1. Preset does not autoplay
Rebooting did not help. But I played around a little bit more and
stored the preset again.
And now it works! Weired...

2. No autoplay after pressing the power button
This is for me, and my wife :-), still not logic.
If a stream was playing and I go into standby, I would expect that the
stream would autoplay if the power button is pressed again.
Also, through a local SB server this option seems to be available (to
your explanations). However, I don't want to run a local server.
-- I will write to the logitech support to find out, if this option
can also be activated on the MySB server.

3. Font size of the clock in the alarm window
For me this is still a bug or lets say false spec because if you cannot
read the clock from 1m away it is useless to display it.
-- However, I will open a new request on bugs.slimdevices.com

Hopefully this is changed because otherwise I am quite happy with the
radio.

Thanks to all.

belly full of beer was taken from Elton John's Saturday Night, which
is what day it was. Not clear, also not relative. If your insinuating
I'm an achoholic and must have been drinking when I assembled the
battery pack, then that's just fine. The reason for putting together a
battery pack is because I can't buy one from Logitech and yes, I have
one on order. What would you like me to do. Wait until Logitech
decides to make one available. Again, your problem. I'm not waiting.
I've been soldering for probably longer than you've been alive.

The battery pack worked just fine for a few days. Yesterday I came
home from a particularly rough day visiting my mom at the rest home and
just wanted to listen to some music outside. Turned on the Radio, it
required an update so I did that. After that the only way to get the
Radio to play is to plug it in. It then said it couldn't find the
server so I checked the server and it also required an update. So I did
that also. The battery indicator shows charged, but if you unplug it, it
shuts off. I'm sure the one beer I had while trying this completely
fogged my senses and I should seek help. Maybe sometime at the rest
center would help.

O.K.. Clear enough? Get enough personal information from me. Am I
spending enough money with logitech (8 including the TP) so I may have
permission to build a battery pack. Did I keep my language clean
enough.

I realize there have never been any issues with SB's, their software or
the firmware so I will now go to rehab, get clean and sober, recheck my
battery pack build and if that doesn't work wait until the EOL of the
Radio to get a battery pack from Logitech.

Thanks again,

Howard

And let me be specific lest I be accused of hypocrisy: it is wrong

Just an example for 1):

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] The alarm does not work

2010-06-20 Thread BLatSD

I'm starting to see a pattern in the way the alarm works. Mind you,
this may be something commonly known to long time SBR owners, but as a
newbie I've just discovered it ( as usual, it's not covered in the
skimpy manual).

Rule of thumb: At the time you set the alarm parameters (especially the
alarm sound option), be sure your SBR is connected to the server that
will be alive when it's supposed to go off.

For example, if I set up my alarm and choose a Sound Effect when the
SBR is connected to my PC's SBServer, then shut my PC (or server) down
when I go to bed, the alarm that's played will always be the default
rock guitar sound rather than my chosen sound effect. In essence,
the alarm sound menu choices are actually pointers to the choices,
not the choices themselves. There's one set of pointers that lives
on your local SB Server, and there's one set that lives on
mysqueezebox.com. And, to make it confusing, they can look identical.
They both will list Current Playlist, Favorites, Musical Sounds,
Natural Sounds, Sound Effects.

I think I read somewhere that Favorites ( maybe presets too) saved
when connected to SBServer Favorites/presets saved when connected to
mysqueezebox.com are supposed to sync up, but they don't (or at least
they never have for me). I had to create two identical sets in order to
access my favorites preset buttons so that regardless of which server
I was currently connected to, they would play.

So if you've set your alarm sound when connected to SBServer, the SBR
alarm is going to look for the pointer to your favorite or sound on
the SBServer. And if your home SBServer is down, it won't find the
pointer, and will therefore play the default alarm sound.

So for me, since I shut down my SBServer at night, before I set up an
alarm, I make sure that I'm connected to myqueezebox.com first (I added
the switch to myqueezebox.com item to my home menu). It always plays
the right favorite/sound when I do this.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Sleep icon has disappeared

2010-06-20 Thread ziza

Since installing 7.5.1, the sleep icon has disappeared from my Radio
when the alarms are turned off. My alarms are set to go off Monday -
Friday morning. Friday night and Saturday night when I want to fall
asleep with the Radio on, set to sleep in 60 minutes and I hit the
sleep button on the remote or use the shortcut I created using the mute
button, the icon doesn't appear at the bottom of the screen. I can't be
certain the if radio will turn off but by using the radio menu to
navigate to the sleep setting, it seems to work, but still without
showing the sleep icon in the screen. When the alarm is on, the sleep
icon appears without problem though I'm not seeing the time amounts of
sleep time through the shortcut. I think this is a bug. Has anybody
else noticed similar behavior?

All and all, 7.5.1 seems to more stable, especially in eliminating most
radio shut downs after playing for a minute.

This is a good summary and exactly the way it works.
The alarm is stored on the server you are connected to when you set the
alarm. This server also needs to be on/reachable at alarm time otherwise
the fallback alarm will sound.

One note: with the new firmware 7.5.1 the Radio sends a WakeOnLan to
the last server 5 minutes ahead of the alarm. So if your (local) server
wakes up to a WOL (and starts the squeezebox-server) you might not need
to switch to MySqueezebox.com anymore in the night.
