It wouldn't power back up if it was a faulty connection with the power supply plug. I'll open it up and see if maybe there are any bad looking connections with the battery pack. Does the radio always show a charging indicator when plugged in? What I suspect is happening is that it's fully charging when plugged in, then it cuts off the charger when it determines battery full, then the charger never comes back on as it slowly drains from powering the clock display. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Battery/charging behavior. Anyone else experiencing this?
I suspect the battery is on its last legs, but I also suspect the Radio's firmware is broken. Here's the behavior I'm seeing, pretty much every time now: If the Radio has been plugged in for many hours or days, and I then unplug it, it instantly turns off, or occasionally displays a low battery warning and shuts off a few seconds later. If I then plug it in (usually because I'm playing it) and leave it plugged in for a couple hours, the battery charges and is able to play on battery for several hours. [SlimDevices: Radio] Battery/charging behavior. Anyone else experiencing this?
This has always been like this, but I was reminded of it again today. I had my Radio, with battery, plugged in and playing for a couple of hours. Then I unplugged it to move it another room to play on battery. In less than a minute I got a low battery screen and it wouldn't play. So I plugged it back into the power and let it charge for 10 or 15 minutes, tried again and it played for several hours on battery. Not quite sure what's going on there. I don't think it actually charged in that time, and unless the firmware is really screwed up, the battery shouldn't have been drained because it was playing while plugged in. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio turns on by itself. Any idea why?
I've said this in some previous threads: I see exactly the same thing. The Radio screen saver is often not in its proper state. I don't think the Radio's firmware was ever completely debugged, and it never will be, since nobody is doing any further work on it. Could also be some overlooked issues with the whole SlimProto protocol not being quite as robust as it might be. Again, that will never be fixed. The other night I noticed that my silent Transporter was showing the VU meters on the 2nd screen, but the BlankSaver should have made that screen dark. Just had to start/stop a song to set it back to dark. We just have to live with those quirks now. No need to worry about damaging the rubber, because the only cure is to -remove- it completely. It's a fairly thin coating over a harder plastic beneath. Rubbing alcohol helps a bit in making it softer, but you're basically scraping and rubbing it off. I cleaned up a guitar stand with a similar problem of a disintegrating rubber coating on a few parts. Mostly, it just took a lot of elbow grease. You can scrape it off with a thumbnail or something relatively soft, like wooden sticks, then remove the last bits with a soft cloth. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Strange connection issues between Radio and LMS
Since the first Squeezebox I owned, some 12 years or so ago, I've seen the issue where the server thinks it's streaming music, but the player produces no music. Although I've seen in very seldom in recent years. I doubt anything that has changed in LMS with regard to streaming, but I'm seeing a lot more playback stoppages on my Radio lately. I have no idea what might be causing it, but the wireless signals are good. I sometimes keep the Radio in my kitchen a few feet from the microwave (top of the fridge) and using the microwave usually causes a song to stop, and LMS then skips to the next one. But lately it's just been stopping and doesn't play again until I hit the play button. The Radio, I'm convinced, was never fully baked. Logitech abandoned the product line and disbanded the development team before the firmware was debugged to the degree of any previous SB. It's the least mature of all the SB products, but alas, nobody is likely to ever touch the firmware again. It is what it is. I've always had odd screensaver and Now Playing behavior on the Squeezebox Radio. It started during beta testing and exists to this day. It's never worked right. Probably half the time that the Radio isn't playing, it will be stuck in the Now Playing screen instead of the clock screensaver, which is configured for when stopped. The other thing I see is that if it's in the clock screensaver and not playing and then I use the Radio's buttons and hit the right-arrow, it will inevitably say 'Nothing' or whatever it shows for an empty playlist. I suppose it must think that it's in the Now Playing state and screensaver, even when it's stopped and in the clock screensaver, so it thinks that it should push into the Current Playlist. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Beginner Needs Advice.
Unlike some other systems, LMS has a "Current Playlist" that is an ad hoc play list to which you can add single tracks, multiple tracks, albums, even radio stations, to at any time. I don't have a Duet with Controller, so can't really tell you how to add tracks using the Controller, but I'm sure you can add single tracks. What you need to be careful of with Squeezebox is that 'Play' will wipe out the whole Current Playlist and replace it with only the item you selected. If you want to build a playlist, however, you can add tracks to the end. You just need to figure out how to do that and be careful. If you bring up the web interface to the server, it might give you a better understanding. There's just a lot more on screen that you have with the Controller. To access the web interface, use a browser and point it at the IP address of your LMS server. Something like http://192.168.0.6:9000 Replace 192.168.0.6 with the IP address of the LMS server on your network. If you're running the browser form the server itself, you can use: http://127.0.0.1:9000 You may want to then go to the Settings, using the link in the bottom right corner, then go to the tab labeled 'Interface' and to the 'Additional Playlist Buttons' setting. Tick the checkbox. What this will do is enable a 'Play Next' button (the button looks like ">|") that enables you to insert a song (or songs or whole album) to be played next after the currently playing song in the playlist. Note that this is a web-interface-only option. I'm not sure if the Controller offers a 'Play Next' feature, but I suspect it does. Play around in the web interface. The left side lets you browse through your library, do searches, and immediately play things or build up the Current Playlist. The right side is the Current Playlist itself and the player status and buttons are at the top right. Note that you can drag and drop tracks within the Current Playlist to change the order, plus there are additional controls to remove items or skip to other tracks in the list. You can also use and create named playlists of tracks. These are the playists that you may be more familiar with. You do this by building them (and/or editing them) within the Current Playlist, then using the 'Save' button at the lower right to save new lists or changes to existing ones. On the left hand side you'll note that at the top menu level there's a Playlists button for accessing these saved playlists. >From there you can play them, rename them, etc. JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=101069 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Beginner Needs Advice.
The Touch is thought by many to have better sound quality, but I have a feeling that you may be perfectly happy with either the Squeezebox 2 or Squeezebox 3 (aka Squeezebox Classic). The SB2 and SB3/Classic differ a little in their cosmetics, but they're virtually identical in their internal hardware and functionality. The most important thing to know before getting started is to do you homework and learn about digital audio extraction (DAE), also known as "ripping", and the software you'll need to do both the ripping and any subsequent tagging of your FLAC files. Do it right the first time and you'll never need to do it again. Also, make sure you're diligent in keeping good backups of your music library so that, once again, if something happens to the files, you won't lose the hundreds of hours you'll have invested in ripping and tagging. I'm fairly certain that is does not work that way with the Radio, Touch or Controller. Rereading the original post, the OP says he got it to work (although he doesn't know how), but then says his Radio is still at firmware 9557. So, apparently, the Radio did not update. To answer another question from the OP: The Touch, Radio and Controller firmwares are not included with any installation or upgrade of the server. The firmware files are considered too large to distribute as a part of the server software download, unlike those for the SB3, Transporter, etc, which are much smaller. The only way to get the latest firmware is to have the server (or player) go out on the internet and retrieve it. Or, as discussed above, you can manually download them and load them onto either the Touch or Controller by placing them on an SD card. Is there no way to connect the LMS _server_ to the internet, even if only temporarily? The players themselves don't need to be connected (but they do need to be connected to the server), since the server will retrieve the newest firmware and pass it to the players. If you do get it connected you may need to restart the LMS process, as it normally only checks for firmware updates at startup and then only once every 24 hours. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Manual SB Radio firmware update - how?
With the Radio, I don't believe that you -can- do manual updates. With the older players it's just a matter of downloading the firmware and .version files and placing them in the cache/updates folder. With the new players it seems that the server must itself first download the firmware from the 'net before it will send an update notification to the Radio. I filed a bug/request about this some time ago: http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17526 (With the Touch and the Controller I believe you may be able to place firmware updates on an SD card, but the Radio has no such ability.) Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Function of the 1 to 6 buttons??
Good question. Could be considered a bug, or maybe just a limitation of how volume synch works. See the following thread, where I recently had some questions about volume synching. http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?93028 Try the recommended SyncOptions plugin. In the web interface, go to Settings > Plugins, check 'Show all 3rd party plugins', then check SyncOptions. Make sure you disable volume synching for all players (see comment #4) and then restart the server. Then go to Settings > Advanced > SyncOptions Settings and enable relative volume synch. You may have to unsynch players, set their relative volume, and synch them again to get the relative volumes set up correctly. I've used the plugin for a couple of months, and while its not perfect, it's better than the standard volume synchronization. I'm not certain how it deals with players with volumes locked at 100%, but try it and let us know. Yeah, reliance on a server for such a basic task makes the whole system more than a little bit shaky. It's probably because that's how the older players worked. They were a lot dumber than the SqueezePlay based players, Radio and Touch. Plus, the Touch and Radio don't have much extra flash storage space. I suspect that if they were to start all over, didn't have to support the older players, and were working with devices that weren't crippled by having too little memory and CPU power, they might have taken a different approach. -- JJZolx JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=93876 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

What happens when it fails? Aren't you prompted to enter a new password? IMO, the bug is filed for the wrong thing. A user should not have to tell the player to "forget" its settings and start over. As you say in the bug description, most intelligent devices figures out the authentication protocol on their own. The newer Squeezebox players supposedly also do this, but it may only be during initial setup. You'd think that failing authentication would be enough to goose the player into attempting to figure out the protocol once again. I'd be willing to bet that there are simpler workarounds. For example, maybe try changing the network type to ethernet, then back to wireless. Or try connecting to a different wireless network (if there happens to be one nearby), then when it fails switch back to the old one. Not obvious, but it would beat doing a factory reset. -- JJZolx JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91803 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I'd try a couple of things: - When this happens next time, open a web browser and see if the server sees the Radio. I'm not sure that it will suggest a fix, but it might give you more information to go on. - Unhide the network SSID. It offers no additional security. A battery isn't likely to help your problem. When the Radio is on battery power and is idle it will hard power off by itself after 20(?) minutes to save the battery from draining completely. When the Radio is in soft power off (standby) it's never disconnected from the network. I just pulled the battery out of mine and did a couple of hard power offs, and even pulled the plug. It always comes back up connected to the network (there are other wifi networks around) and displays the Home menu. Is the network that the Radio connects to password protected? If you try it several times and you don't see a menu option to re-enter a password, try changing the network, trying to connect, and then change it back. -- JJZolx JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85840 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

How would "Home" do what you want if it popped you out to the Home menu? You'd lose the song information display until the Now Playing screensaver kicked back in or until you navigated back to Now Playing. IMO the way it works makes a lot of sense. If you want to keep sleeping you just click the knob and it resets the sleep timer. To turn the alarm off completely requires slightly more thought, but it's not much different than my electronic alarm clock where you have to locate a switch and move it the correct position. -- JJZolx JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84875 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Which Squeezebox? Radio? Touch? Boom? They all let you enter lower case letters as well as upper case, numbers and punctuation characters for the wireless password. Yes, the case of the letters is important. Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] new radio, mixed experience so far
Squeezebox user interfaces have never been particularly good when there's a problem situation. I think the SqueezePlay based devices are worse due in part because of increased connectivity problems. Touch seems to be the best of the bunch, but the Duet and Radio have been nightmares. There's also the whole mysb.com thing that complicates everything. >From the required account signup, to using mysb.com for basic menus, connecting to it in the background, endless software bugs and datacenter outages, it's been nothing but trouble and has done a pretty good job of giving the Squeezebox a bad reputation for both usability and reliability. -- JJZolx JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82524 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Fairly reliable with a local server, not at all reliable with mysb.com. Part of the problem lies in the lack of reliability of mysb.com, but that should be dealt with in the software running on the Radio/Touch. > However, due to the fact that people tends to complain here instead of > telling Logitech support about their problems, I'm not sure Logitech > are aware of how many people that are still affected. Oh, come on. How could they not be aware of it? The biggest problem is that Squeezebox has been deprecated, with few resources remaining in software development. No. Myqueezebox.com just allows you to connect to internet radio and services like Pandora and Napster without the need for a Squeezebox Server. It also can implement alarms.
