I just know that in the 6 months that I've owned a SB Radio, there have been a handful of public & beta SBS & firmware revisions posted, and in that same period, there was only one system-wide shutdown of MySB.com to update it, which by the way did little to improve it's performance at my end. I know that a shutdown of MySB.com isn't necessarily the only indicator that developer time is being applied towards it. But the only other indicator, my experience using MySB.com exclusively as my server, hasn't changed one iota other than observing an occasional app that comes or goes. And I also know that in these times, there are Logitech management comparing financial reports of sales vs. expenses, scrutinizing how much developer time will be devoted to what, or worse yet, at all. I've got a garage full of consumer technology that appealed to a very minor corner of the buying public that's now been abandoned. And let's face it, internet radio resides squarely in that corner. Happens to my Radio as well on the US east MySB. It is very random for me. Sometimes I can change to ten different stations and the screen properly updates, other times the screen will only display the one station no matter how many different stations I try. Sometimes pressing FFWD corrects the wrong station info, other times FFWD does not correct it. Are all of us who have this problem of stuck artwork in Europe? And does it only happen with MySB? I'm starting to believe it's really a MySB problem, something with the connection to MySB not working correctly. And it is known that there is a capacity problem with the European MySB server. It is beyond annoying. The icon is stuck on a song that was playing two days ago. I like being able to see what I am listening to. This is my 2nd SB, the first did not work properly. Super bummed about the functionality of this equipment. Radio Firmware 7.6 r9125 did not seem to fix the issue (but then I only ever saw it using mysb.com). Since I only use mySB I have no way to test the beta firmware. Perhaps I will have to bring up SBServer.but for now I am plagued by this problem, it can happen several times every evening. As a test I thought it would be worth trying a different wifi source and so brought up a second one. I assigned channel 1 to one and channel 11 to the second. One is a wrt54g running recent Linksys firmware, the second is a wrt54gl running dd-wrt. Unfortunately it freezes just as regularly on each of them. But I did discover something, rather than having to reboot to unfreeze the now playing information, I can instead switch wifi networks and that unfreezes it. Unfortunately it is short lived, perhaps a few hours and it will freeze again. So it is no solution but perhaps it is a clue. Incidentally the freeze problem is unrelated to changing from one station to another. If you listen to a single station long enough it will always eventually freeze. It's getting worse. I changed absolutely nothing on my end, and suddenly today instead of Now Playing, all I see is "Current Playlist: Nothing". This is when playing internet radio via msb.com, as usual. Rebooting does *not* get rid of it. I know people were complaining about seeing the generic antenna image, which is all I ever saw, but now I'm kind of wishing I had at least that. WHAT IS GOING ON AT MYSQUEEZEBOX.COM? Gotta' add my voice to this one. I've been using Rhapsody/Pandora, etc. via SBS on my Duet for some months now and the artwork and Now Playing artwork and track info streamers have worked flawlessly. I did the r9009 upgrade and, for testing purposes, switched over to MSB.com to test the supposed reliability improvements. Indeed, the music streams have performed perfectly for hours on end. However the "Now Playing" artwork and track information streamer typically freeze after the first one or two tracks played and stays that way unless I power the Controller off and back on. Then they'll work again for a short bit and, again, freeze (music's fine, though). In addition, I noticed that the icon for the Shuffle function (which I use a lot for my playlists on Rhaposdy) also becomes inoperative/frozen, though the Shuffle functionality works just fine--both turning it on and off---even though the icon doesn't reflect whatever the actual current shuffle status is. It was too good to be true! This morning I started it, by pushing the power button, then play. The screen was frozen, although I could select new stations, but with no way to tell what they were with the screen stuck on the one which was playing when I powered down last evening. Had to reboot. But since the MySqueezeBox.com shutdown and restart on August 30, I have not experience another screen freeze with firmware 7.5.1 r9009 on my SBRadio. This includes prior firmware and the current firmware. I have never ran a local server-have always connected to mysb.com. I do experience the radio art problems. But for me, the problem was there before this last upgrade. This for sure: the last upgrade stop the radio from turning off when first turn on. It's amazing how so many variations of so many problems are posted here. I use MySB.com exclusively but my Rhapsody & Pandora art works. It's only RadioTime stations that don't (so far). Based on the fact that the problem doesn't seem to be getting any attention from the developers, I lost all hope that it will be fixed anytime soon. As previously stated, I found my workaround so I'm not as concerned about it, even though it's a bit of a pain in the rear to step through the workaround. And after all, we're talking about a display issue, something that bugs the heck out of me, but nothing that inhibts the primary purpose of the radio, to stream content. Which brings me to the point that's bothering me the most right now, which is the interruption of streaming after 45 minutes to an hour that the most recent firmware was supposed to have improved upon. With this kind of performance, I don't need a sleep feature. Looks like this thread's gone cold, so either the problem is going away or users are giving up. I'll post this observation just for the record. After numerous trials and reverting to v7.4.x firmware, I found no sequence of operations that would ensure the album art and user control (+key) features on Rhapsody and Pandora worked all the time; they seemed to come and go at random, so I re-upgraded to V7.5.1 r9009 to stop the constant nags to do so. Once while it was not working, I noticed a screen Could not connect to mysqueezebox.com, if this persists,... that never persisted long enough to read the whole of it. Pandora and Rhapsody would nonetheless display playlists, channels, etc., and play them, but without the artwork and control features. Despite the above dialog, logging into mysqueezebox.com with a web browser and examining the player tab, however, showed the radio as being connected. Manual disconnect attempts from the browser instantly reconnected as long as the SB radio remained powered up. Rhapsody and Pandora continued to display and play without the album artwork or control features. I forced the SBradio to disconnect by pulling its power, then forced a disconnect and removed it via the browser at mysqueezebox.com. Factory resetting the SBRadio then caused it to go back through the entire setup dialog including the account email and password for mysqueezebox.com. With that done, artwork and control functions reappeared on both Pandora and Rhapsody. The MyMusic functions, however, now return a dialog that a Squeezebox server must be downloaded, installed, and running. When I first began using the SBRadio and before all the problems with artwork and controls began, I recall seeing a connecting dialog when changing back and forth between MyMusic (on the SBServer) and Internet Radio, Pandora, or Rhapsody (via mysqueezebox.com) That behavior has changed, or else the can't connect dialog appears instead, but is so fleeting that I don't notice it. >From the SqueezeOS Architecture description: Two modes of operation are supported. Firstly when the user has one or more SqueezeCenters located on their local network. In this scenario all the audio players and SqueezeOS-based controllers are connected to the SqueezeCenter. The SqueezeCenter controls the state and actions of all connected devices. Internet services are available via the OPML/http connection from SqueezeNetwork (this is planned for SqueezeCenter 7). The second scenario is when the user is not using SqueezeCenter (either they dont have it installed or the PC is turned off). In this case all the audio players and SqueezeOS-based controllers are connected directly to SqueezeNetwork. It seems to be the PC is turned off part of the second scenario that appears not to work reliably. Since I don't intend to use a SBserver regularly, I will not run it nor allow the SBRadio to connect to it. If you tap the power button to shut down, and later tap it again to power up the radio does turn on but doesn't play until you either tap play or reselect a station. Simply tapping play is a one step way to wake it up and get playing. All of my stations are via RadioTime and I connect to mysqueeebox.com. I have not taken the time to even look into SqueeezeBox Server, although I do see the value of SBS for convering and having my CD's available on line. Maybe I will have time for that in the winter...Summer is too short for all the effort that would take. Nor do I use the alarms. My application is as simple as it gets, I have 6 presets set up, plus a modest additional list of favorites. Everything is from RadioTime. The last display freeze was associated with pushing the play button after turning off the prior night. The display freeze prior to that occurred when switching stations using the presets. I would like to point out that there are two separate and distinct issues being discussed in this thread and it often becomes confusing trying to understand what people are talking about. But maybe it is only confusing for me and not others. I'll describe what I think these two issues are and give you my experience and my opinion. Issue 1 - Station Art gets frozen on a particular station after the radio is turned off and then turned back on. I "fixed" this issue on my radio by going through the procedure mentioned in my 8/20 (15:07) post. Issue 2 - Station Art not displaying. It sounds like some of us get more station art than others. In my opinion, I don't think this is a hardware problem. There are a number of stations that give me the dreaded antenna, but 90% of the stations give me station art. The stations that show the antenna on the radio also show the antenna on the Squeezebox Duet Controller. That sounds to me like a problem with the station OR a glitch in the software that is affecting both the SB Radio and the SB Duet Controller. Has anyone tried to log into Bugzilla recently? I have tried to get a status on some of the bug reports and I'm not able to get into the website (bugs.slimdevices.com). Wow - now the bug reporting tool has a bug. I tried old firmware! In fact I tried EVERY version of OLD Firmware and it didn't work for me. You'll have to let us know if it works for you. I tried everything, - - - Even turning my radio upside down??? And, I waited for the ultimate firmware update (that NEVER came) to resolve my problem. There seems to be some radios that simply work and some that don't. And, I agree with you also, - no one needs another "hobby" like this. Hopefully this will restore what had been acceptable performance with mysqueezebox.com until the 7.5.x.x "upgrade." I'll have to ignore and bypass offered upgrades until someone reports on this forum that a future upgrade actually works with mysqueezebox.com The variability others have reported suggests that network latency might indeed be the cause. Logging the SB Radio's network traffic with Ethereal or the like might allow one to isolate a timing issue, but that falls short of being able to fix it oneself in a closed product like the Squeezebox. Prior experience with Logitech support trying to resolve a time zone offset between SB Server and mysqueezebox.com suggests that a diagnosis might not get it fixed anyway. Boy do I agree with Friedmann, - The lack of station art is a MAJOR ISSUE. To me it's a real turn-off to see that "Gray Screen of Antenna of Death" and listen to all the work-arounds, re-boots, and magic button pushing, or a Complete Restore of Factory Settings - and yes, waiting for the NEXT big firmware update from some flooded foreign country! The NEW RADIO is still working fine and sort of reminds me of how my Electric Clock performs, - Works real good and lasts a long time! After normal pauses, channel changes, turn offs, and a power failure or two since my first post, the album art and user control functionality of Pandora and Rhapsody resumed being unpredictable with the r9009 software. I concluded that my earlier report of success with the SB Server was overoptimistic. Additional stops, turn-offs, power cycling, and resets to factory settings didn't help. About 5 posts back in this topic I had reported that upgrading to firmware r9009 had reduced my instances of the screen freezing to just one instance in 3 days. I had intended to try BLatsD's sequence should it reoccur. Last evening I had it playing CBC Classical and had stopped it by tapping the power button, intending to resume in the AM by pushing the play button. It did resume playing but the art was that of the previous evening, although it was not completely frozen, it was scrolling the title of what it had been playing last evening. Selecting a new station(s) did connect to the new station(s) but the artwork remained 'stuck'. So I tried BLatsD's sequence. Holding down the pause key until the stop symbol (the square dot) appeared, then continuing with his sequence. His technique did NOT correct the problem. I see that TJ_ also failed to upright the boat using the BLatsD sequence. I continued and tried everything but rebooting and nothing helped. I can restore the play symbol (the right pointing triangle). In fact it will pause and resume normally. I can successfully select new stations. Everything is fine except the screen remains stuck at last evening. So I had to reboot, which itself is annoying as the radio puts out a hellish blast of noise from the headphone jack, which I can live with as rebooting should be rare anyway. I cannot say that r9009 has been any improvement in this annoying problem. I'm getting about 90% of the station art on my local stations in New York. I tried last night to tune into Los Angeles stations through Radio Time. I get about the same high percentage with L.A. stations. I then tried stations in Australia (can't get much further away than that). Same high rate of station art there. So, to me, it doesn't sound like a distance problem but who knows? Every bit of information might help the folks who are working on these bugs. And, as I mentioned in a prior post, the station art behavior on the SB Radio is no different from the behavior on the SB Duet Controller. Distance to the server shouldn't matter in the issue of displaying art or station logos. SBS running on your computer does handle this issue much better than does MySqueezeBox.com. But the streams (and included data within the stream) are still traveling the same distance. i.e. a stream originating in Moscow is the same distance to my player whether I'm using SBS or MySqueezeBox.com. After upgrading to firmware 7.5.1 r9009 I have experienced the 'frozen' screen just once in the last 3 days. Prior to that it was more frequent, but I suppose it could be that I am just not repeating the exact sequence that causes it. I rebooted, but then I was unaware of the work around suggested by BLatSD. When it happens again I will try his 'trick'. I am using SBRadio hardware version 5 and mysqueezebox.com. Interesting! People using SBS have no problems with anything, it seems. Their server is typically just a *few feet* away from the Squeezebox. Until five minutes ago, I've almost never seen album art (the topic of this thread), not to mention I've endured various other glitches that never should've made it past QA. I'm in Edmonton, Canada, which is *far far away* from both mysqueezebox.com and from DI.fm's servers. Long distance, lots of problems. I just got back from exploring the local radio stations via internet radio - all located probably within just a *few miles* of me. I was browsing through the catalog of internet radio stations, and occasionally when I selected a station, I saw station art for a fraction of a second - then invariably it disappeared. I even saw DI.fm art once! (99.9% of the time I listen to DI.fm, and only that one time did I see their art, and for a fraction of a second.) It seems like a whole bunch of things happen when you select a station, and they don't always happen in a consistent order. And for the one station in 20 that I don't get art, if I follow the steps in BLatSD's post above, the station art comes through. And for that station, I get the same behavior - if I tune to a different station and then back, the art goes away. Very strange. BUT - Guess what. The behavior is EXACTLY the same on the Squeezebox Controller when being used to control my SB Boom (including the part about following BLatSD's steps). The SB Controller screen shows station art for the same stations as the SB Radio and it shows the antenna for the other stations (same as the SB Radio). Then, when you use BLatSD's steps, you can get the art on the Controller screen for those stations that did not initially display art. So, IMHO, this is NOT a problem that is specific to the SB Radio and it is NOT a hardware issue. Well, dlpoole & ciarmer found their solution to the "no station artwork when connected to MySB.com" issue, johnniebush found his, and I think I've just found mine. 1. Play station. If station art displays, you're done. 2. While station is playing press & hold the pause button so that the status bar shows the stop icon (does not work with just pause). 3. Press the home menu button. 4. Press the play button. 5. Select the 'Now Playing' home menu item. 6. Enjoy your Station Art! Worked 20 out of 20 times. What a hassle though! I just tried it again, with battery & AC power disconnected during the reset, and still no radio station art. (Tried 5 stations, got art on the 5th station, tried 5 more stations, no art. Went back to station I just got art on, and the dreaded gray antenna is all I get.) First, let me say that I am getting the correct station art consistently on radio stations. With respect to radio stations, I do not think I am getting album art. But I rarely get the antenna transmitter icon. I just went through about 20 stations and 18 of them showed the proper station art. I apologize; I didn't mean to mislead with the statement about album art. My prior issue (with the frozen art) was an issue with radio stations, Pandora, etc. Everything was frozen on the art from the station or stream that was playing when the radio was put into standby mode. I do not use SBS. SBS is installed and I do have lots of music there, but generally, SBS is not enabled and if I try to connect to it, it fails (as it should). Let me try to be clear about what I did. 1. Start SBS 2. Point the radio to SBS (by clicking on "My Music"). 3. Shut down the radio and "reboot". I may have pulled the plug (with no battery in it). I am not sure about this step, but why not try it by pulling the plug and removing the battery. 4. Restart the radio. It should now be connected to SBS. 5. Point the radio to MYB.com (don't shut down SBS until you've connected to MYB.com) 6. Once connected to MSB.com, shut down SBS. That's basically what I have done. It's seems as though my solution is getting some traction!! My problem started with my April firmware update to Version 7.5.0 r.30464. That was the last day that I ever saw Station Art work while connected to MySqueezebox.com! After that my Radio Station Art was limited to the ANTENNA affectionately referred to as My Gray Screen of Death. Logitech support assured me that my problem could have NEVER been associated with the firmware update and further assured me that I could have NEVER have damaged my radio with the firmware. Maybe the 7.5.0 r30464 update and loss of station art was only a coincidence??? H? Okay Ive done a lot of firmware updates on my BIOS in my computers. Once in a while, I get one of these BIOS updates that (Im told) cant be reversed?? It doesnt make sense to me, but Ive always sweated it and have always been a little scared when I updated permanent BIOS changes! Please dont argue this point with me. IBM (Lenovo) support service has always been outstanding, - and when they give me this warning, I pay special attention! I have no idea what happened, but EVERYTHING is still okay with my new Squeezebox Radio! Id love to tell you guys that I have the SAME problem with the new radio, but I dont. I went through months and months of hell with my old SBR with no good solution. Let me repeat, - I do NOT repeat myself! Only joking, - but purchasing a new radio fixed my problem! I had the same finding as you did. When connected to the Squeezebox Server, everything worked correctly. Art on Pandora and my Podcasts and on all radio stations worked fine! After shutting down the server, Pandora still provided me with Album Art, but radio stations defaulted back to the "gray tower of death". I don't even want to think about this problem anymore because it was such a headache, - like a bad dream that never ended!!! Right now, everything is working perfectly. Now, all I have to do is get through the infant component "burn-in". Someone on our forum asked me to check back on my screen art problem fix after using my new radio for a couple of weeks. Well, Im checking back and everything is still working fine. I have proceeding and installed the 7.5.1 r9009 firmware update and the radio is still working perfectly. I am becoming more and more convinced that the problem associated with lack of artwork is a HARWARE problem and not a software problem. My original radio worked perfectly for approximately 5-months without a hiccup. My original artwork problem started on the same day that I performed a firmware update and I would occasionally see artwork that seemed to be stuck on a couple of my stations, but it essentially NEVER worked again. Memory, hardware, or firmware??? No amount of re-installs, firmware updates, or total resetting of the radio to its virgin state did anything to resolve the problem. However, the NEW RADIO now works perfectly and is continuing to work perfectly. As a parting comment, the worst part of my frustration was with Logitech support in India. I wont waste my words, but give them a BIG ZERO. However, I fully realize that your mileage my vary! ZERO + ZERO + ZERO +ZERO still equals ZERO! One more tip. I am treating my Squeezebox Radio a little more respectfully. I no longer simply snatch the plug out of the wall without shutting off the radio completely by holding down the power button. This probably has nothing to do with the problem, but it simply makes me feel better. So far, the only solution that I have found to our problem seems to be purchasing a NEW RADIO! I experienced the lack of album art and "Nothing" shown in the Now Playing screens of the Pandora and Rhapsody Apps since the 7.5.1 r9009 update. The + key functions also failed on both apps. Reliability was iffy before the update, with occasional stalls requiring the app to be re-entered. I since observed that if the Squeezebox Radio (SBR) can connect to a Squeezebox Server (SBS) (v7.5.1 r30836) as of radio power-up, the album art the + key functions on Pandora and Rhapsody work thereafter. The functions continue to work even after the SBS and the machine hosting it are shut down as long as the SBR is not unplugged. If the SBR is unplugged, the server has to be running again. I'll echo the disappointment expressed elsewhere on this board with the quality of the Logitech product's software and the apparent downward trend after updates. I use the SBR to feed internet radio to a stereo, and have no other use for SBS. The "sleep" function seems to generate the frozen station art. When this happens, I hold the power button and let it restart. I hit various preset buttons for other stations in that family, and hear those stations. Station- and track info don't change, and are clearly wrong. At this point it's "stuck", and nothing I can do (short of a complete power cycle) will force it to show the correct info. 4. I turn the radio "workaround off" by holding down Pause until it becomes Stop, and walk away for the day. Clock screensaver soon kicks in, making it look "genuinely off". 5. I return at the end of the day, and hit a preset button. Now it works properly (almost). Guys, this is my kitchen radio, not my hobby. So currently my kitchen radio is not able to display the station (not even its name) it is playing. Happens systematically for every station since r9009 (and did happen sometimes before). The display is usually stuck to always the same station. Not solved by restarting the device. Useless to mention that my grandma has a 65 year old kitchen radio that perfectly displays the frequency it is tuned to. This is a *MAJOR ISSUE*. Much more important than 90% of the other features of this radio. A restart will temporarily fixes it for a day or two. Note that this doesn't just happen with presets (happens with favorites too), but used presets to make it easy to refer to. Sometimes, station description text at the top of the Now Playing display will not change when the station is changed. It will retain the prior station's text. Also, I don't know if this is related: Settings -> Screen -> Now Playing -> Now Playing Views The selections for small or large artwork cannot be changed. You can unselect one or both, but when you return to the item, both have been selected again. I've owned my SBR 2 months, and the first few weeks or so, my station art worked fine. But hasn't worked right since. I have a preset for a Pandora stream that will ALWAYS display station art, and when I switch from it to any other stream that sends station art, the artwork will always display. But if I switch to a station that does not provide station artwork and then go to one that does, SBR will not display it. So if I'm hell bent on the artwork displaying, I go to the Pandora station first. Otherwise, I just don't care anymore. One other thing I noticed, there is an artwork setting that can choose "small artwork" and/or "large artwork". No, not always, in the beginning it showed the RadioIO icon fine, but then there were simultaneous updates on both sides (RadioIO and SB) and after that this was broke, behaving exactly as in your vid, first it shows for a short while, then gone. Station art is much more stable on TinySC as well. It did work properly at one time. I'm not sure what has happened to make it do this. This only happens if connected via mysqueezebox.com, which is usually how my radio is connected. I don´t really think that it is not helpful to tell that ALL the stations except the one I have mentioned are not displaying artwork anymore, whereas they still do when conneced to the squeezebox server. I guess the developers can easily see which stations are providing artwork. But of course it is know problem to mention some of those that are not working (anymore): 1. GotRadio Forever Fifties 2. KABL 3. Deutsche Welle (Bonn) 4. RTL 102.5 Italian Style 5. So it would be useful for you to pick out, say, 2 or 3 specific stations, with URL links, for the developer to test on his end. Hi MickeyG, thank you for your answer. Good to hear from a developer who he is interested in my problem, unfortunately the German support team did not help me at all. Since the 7.5. update approx. 2 months ago I do not have ANY station art anymore when I am connected to mysqueezebox.com , EVERY channel just shows the antenna. Strangely enough one station I have tried stills displays its logo: RBB Inforadio. I hope this helps to solve the problem... :-) When I am connected via the squeezebox server all the artwork is fine, but that is absolutely no alternative for me, I want the computer to be turned off while I am listening. The latest firmware yesterday did not solve me problem, neither did any of the factory resets I have done so far. Could you specify which radio stations you are listening to that are not showing station logos? Some stations do not show them very consistently, and many people incorrectly assume their Squeezebox is defective. It may not be the fault of the Squeezebox Radio or MySqueezebox.com, but providing more detailed information will help determine this. Also, as I've mentioned long ago, the problem of non-updating artwork is fully reproducible, every time I re-initialize the stream I get the artwork of the first song shown, but this is not updated for subsequent songs. I never use the 128 kbps stream, too low quality, I'd rather do without it. ThunderLips - You probably know this, but your Power Button can function in two (2) different ways. If you push the power button quickly and don't hold the button in, your radio goes in to a "standby" mode similar to your computer's standby mode. From the standby mode, another quick touch will turn it back on without going through the entire re-boot process. If you hold the power button down for a couple of seconds while the radio is on, You will get a "hard shutdown" similar to the hard shutdown on your computer using the power button. When restarting the radio from from a hard (Complete) shutdown, the radio will go through a complete reboot and play it's little start-up music. Stay Safe and Wave our American Flag High! May 29, 2010 Day 53 of the Continuing Nightmare The Saturday Morning Update: To sum up this problem, Logitech has been of NO HELP and has been blaming RadioTime for the problem and the lack of interface and a resolution to our problems. We currently have buffering problems, some dropped stations, loss of ability to connect with many Clear Channel Stations (Now listed as Unplayable) and the loss of Radio Art while connected to MySqueezebox.com. Today, I decided to escalate the problem in hopes of finding a solution and have taken the liberty of contacting the CEO of RadioTime in Dallas, Texas, He advised he that he too had noticed the artwork loss and some other changes with Logitech and advised me that he would ask them to fix or for an explanation! How refreshing to talk with someone who is proactive and simply a decent human being! Stay Tuned, - If the station is still Playable?
