[RBW] Re: Off-pavement riding

2013-10-09 Thread Rambouilleting Utahn
Take a look at the history of recreational skis, 25 years ago every
advanced skier skied on a ski that "racing" written on it somewhere.

Now nobody takes racing skis off of the race course unless they are carving
trenches on the groomers.

The technology still trickles down to the "all mountain" or "free rider"
crowd.

Give it time, people just may see the light. In the meantime enjoy some of
the technology that is making its way to "country bikes"

[RBW] Single Track on my Big Atlantis (White Rim next?)

2013-08-18 Thread Rambouilleting Utahn
Went for a mixed terrain ride in Park City, UT today and got sucked into my
first long sections of single track on my Atlantis. I've ridden these
trails before on a front sprung mountain bike so I knew how difficult they
were. The big Atlantis (64cm) rolling 50mm Schwalbe Marathons with drop
bars, F&R racks, a basket and fenders handled superbly. At one point an
approaching party asked for directions and in mid-sentence asked "is that a
Rivendell?" "I'm from Walnut Creek and the guy behind me has one". Small
world as he was only the second person I spoke too the entire ride.

More dirt and single track to follow. Has anyone here ridden an Atlantis
(or all rounder) on The White Rim Trail in Canyonlands NP? I'm thinking
that it would be a good steed for that with a possible tire change before
heading south.

If the guys from Walnut Creek are on here, I hope you had a great time in
PC the riding here is pretty spectacular.

[RBW] Gauging interest in an MB1

2012-11-13 Thread Rambouilleting Utahn
I have a 1987 22" Bridgestone MB1 frame that I picked up on eBay a while
ago that I need to part with I bought it to build up as a around town bike
but now that I have an Atlantis coming my way I won't be needing it.

The frame was freshly painted and never built up before I received it.

I had one of these for years and then once deciding that it was just too
small for me I built it up for my wife as a Rivafied cruiser and she loves
it.

Before I put it up on Craigslist or back on eBay I wanted to offer it her
to anyone who wants a fine old school mountain bike.

I can send pictures if you are interested.

Not me but there are quite a few Rivs around SLC. I see a couple on Rams

the last time I rode the Cycle SL Century there were about a half dozen
others, and there is a Brian (?) in PC who rides a Ram and posts here often.

Mark at Saturday Cycles sold me the most comfortable bike I ever swung a

him in town.

I'll be riding my blue Boo on the Edible Wasatch ride Saturday so say

I don't think biking is any different than any other sport in that
regards.

Look around a ski area, the sponsored skiers are usually rather
pleasant. The next rung down not so much so. Probably the biggest
reason I avoid Snowbird, too many "brobrahs"

[RBW] Re: Where does the Rivendell Rambouillet fit in with other Rivs?

Jim (Cyclefiend and keeper of this list) has the a very good page on
the Ram on his website

http://www.cyclofiend.com/rbw/rambouillet/index.html

If I remember correctly the AHH compared to the Ram has slightly
stouter tubing, wider clearance for tires and fenders (built around
the Silver brake) and a few other differences.

Regarding the rack mounts the later Rams had rack mounts midway down
the fork, not sure about midway down the seat stays. If I ever have to
repaint my Ram I will have the mid fork mounts added.

hope that helps.

[RBW] Re: iPad apps for bicycling?

2012-04-07 Thread Rambouilleting Utahn
I'm a big fan of Cyclemeter, use it for riding and walking. It logs
your route (via GPS) and gives you distance, elevation gain, average
speed and fastest speed and if you ride the same route often it
compares your latest ride to you average time for that particular
ride.

I have Cychosis but don't use it as much as I should as it requires
manually inputting your ride data which I usually forget to do.

Strava seems pretty popular with the go fast crowd.

[RBW] Women's Handlebar Recommendations?

Borrow a framing square and place it against a wall before pulling it
upwards. As long as the wall to floor joint is square and you get the
square past your junk you can now easily measure your true PBH with a
tape measure. Just measure the distance between the top of the square
and the floor. If you don't have a metric tape remember 2.54 is your
multiplier.

On sunny days in March, April and May the roads (especially Mill

thanks
