Re: [RE-wrenches] SMA phantom arc faults

2019-09-16 Thread Matt Partymiller
If you are using EnnexOS you can clear remotely. Select the device with
the issue, then config, then parameter. Filter by 'AFCI'. Turn off.
Wait a few minutes, turn back on. I wouldn't recommend doing this
unless you're certain its a false arc-fault.

2019-09-15 Thread Dave Tedeyan
I am fairly certain you cannot reset through the portal, unfortunately. I
have done the "rapid whack method" many times. Feels kind of strange, but
works well. The message must be displayed for that to work though. So if
you already reset the inverter, you have to wait for the error to show up
again.
Cheers,
Dave

Re: [RE-wrenches] SMA phantom arc faults

2019-09-15 Thread Jeff Clearwater
I did finally get it to clear using taps but it was a lot of tapping. 3
taps after the second restart with blue light blinking did it - or maybe
that was a coincidence - and it just decided to clear then.

Bill - I did try clearing it through the Data Manager M (EnnexOS) but
there didn't appear to be any place to clear it - nor update the
firmware either that I could find.

I was in the process of logging into the machine itself onsite when I
tried the taps - good thing cause I misplaced the installer log-in! Next
step was PUK - yuk!

And the "source" of the arc-fault was not wiring or connectors - it was
I had turned on and off the DC disconnect as I was making sure Neurio
worked - a guick on and off again inadvertently (changed my mind
midstream as to which I wanted)  That was enough to trip the arc-fault!
SMA if you are listening - can't you make this a bit easier? Having to
reset passwords by contacting SMA - that's a major on top of all the
arc-fault pain we are feeling!

Thanks all,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

Yes, that doesn't seem to work well. Best way is to log into the machine
and clear it with the browser interface.

Here are my notes from this process because its not inuitive:

Double tap cover
Blue Light Blinks
Find Network Called SMA[Serial Number Here]
Connect to this Wifi network
Open Browser
Plug into address bar 192.168.12.3
Log in as installer
Password is ___(Im not sure)

Select Device Parameters
Push On Edit Parameter button
Device>Operation>Reset Operating Data
You must Save these changes.

This will clear the device and allow it to restart. I would also verify
that you have the -92R firmware otherwise it may happen again.

Good luck

Hey Folks,

How do you clear an 8206 from a SB7.7-US?  the manual says tap on the
cover within 10 seconds of error message.  That's not working.

Does that tap then set it up for the next restart or is it supposed to
clear it right away - I've tried restarting again to no avail.

When I tap right after the message appears it simply toggles to the next
screen.

We were told by our SMA friends that a firmware update/fix was

Re: [RE-wrenches] SMA phantom arc faults

2019-09-03 Thread Dave Tedeyan
Hi All,
I have noted that the phantom arc faults occur with high power modules such
as Sunpower. I have also heard of many issues with Tigo optimizers.
One potential easy fix is to disable the Optitrac Global Peak. This seems
to work to get rid of the arc faults in both the -22 and the -40 inverters.
The only downside to that will be reduced power output in partial shading
conditions.

I wouldn't hold my breath for SMA's firmware fix. I was told last year it
would be out by this February (7 months ago) and that they would
automatically push the firmware fix to all their inverters...

Cheers,
Dave

Wrenches
I have had chiller pump contactor along with wells, shop air compressors
all create enough of an arc to trigger the inverters. ABB inverters only
pick up off the DC but even there l had arc welders trip the inverters.

Interestingly, the problems I've had with the SMA -40 AFCI faults have
been on Comp roofs.  When I've gone "inside" a -40 with my laptop, I'm
pretty sure I've seen where you can disable it?

At least with the TL-22s, the AFCI function can be turned off. You
need a_ Web connect speed wire module_. .I don't know if this same
protocol will work for the TL 40s or not.

Metal roofing can apparently be affected by radio waves and by other

Re: [RE-wrenches] SMA phantom arc faults

2019-09-01 Thread frenergy

Hey Marco,

I hear you, we have installed many SMA-40's and we're not
at the same point as you may be but we've definitely had a fair number
of arc fault shut-downs which take a site visit to rectify.  One
location had been experiencing lightening over a year and a half which
seemed to be triggering the 8206 code.

I had to go back three times to one such install. After
that I went back with my array map (before an install I make a laminated
map of the strings with home-run locations) and started inspecting
home-run connections.  I was lucky and found the culprit with my first
try.  Somehow I hadn't pushed the wire end which I had crimped on the
tip to far enough into the plastic connectortoo cold maybe? lazy?
distracted?...not sure but there it was, my bad.  I took that connector
back to the shop and sure enough it would show intermittent connection
with an ohm meter, perfect for an arc fault.

This doesn't answer your question about the fix but thought
I'd apply a little egg to my face in the hopes of saving others the same.
