Re: CSI'm looking for a helpful CS list

2001-10-02 Thread Tom Bassett
CS Gang,

Many of us have been on this CS list for 1 to 2 or more years.
That is why we are comfortable with the level of the discussions presented
daily,
because of our familiarity with the CS subject.
Consider what a newbe would think if dropped into to middle of some
of these on-going threads.! The archives are great for us experienced folks,
but are not
the answer for a new person, as the archives only mirror these complicated
discussions
and leave the newbe still lost.

It may be time to collectively put together a simple, clear Newbe FAQ list to
get the
basic starting information to the new person. I think 20 or so questions with
clear answers
would be all it would take to get them started making good CS. (Isn't that what
we're here for..??)
Then, after final editing, we put a link to the Newbe FAQ page at the bottom
of the page.
Bingo, more new members making acceptable CS .!!

Comments, folks?

Recently, we completed an investigation which yielded
information I believe to be of possible
value to the list membership.
While it is well known that CS solutions as weak as 5 ppm are of
value when impinged upon the
surfaces of conventional air conditioning filters, there was small data
available as to how effective. We
found that approximately 3 ounces of 10 ppm CS sprayed over (both sides) of a
20 X 20 X 1 AC intake
filter.once every 10 days, reduced the general viable bacteria/virus
populations (expressing on the filter
surfaces) to 5%--or less--of those found on the control filters. In some
cases, where 20 ppm was used, and
the interval for filter cleaning shortened to 7 daysthe efficacy improved
to better than 98%. It is of
interest to note that some filters were mechanically/pneumatically cleaned by
simply knocking them against a
screened surface and exposing to 60+ psi cleaning via air hose nozzles 4
timesbefore being replaced with
new ones-without substantial degradation in overall system performance.
Of note was, free-air samples from areas serviced by a $1000.00
air-scrubber, contained MORE
live pathogens.than did the CS test areas utilizing the foregoing
arrangement of CS impregnated intake
filters.
One word of caution.because of the large, initial, wetted
surface of the intake filter it
would be prudent to check the filter for heavier-than-usual accumulations of
dirt/dust particulates at about
5 days. after the initial installation.. This is of special importance in
areas exhibiting high dust
concentrations. It may be of import for members to know that approximately
80% of all A/C system failures
have their primary cause as restricted air flow..mainly from occluded
intake filters (this includes, but
is not limited to: frozen evaporator surfaces, compressor failure due to
excessive work-load, continuously
high discharge pressures,etc.)
I hope this information is of value to some.
Sincerely, Brooks Bradley.

Agglomeration is controlled to a large extent by hydrating the particles as
they form with constant stirring.
I believe that all LVDC CS comes off the electrodes as single ions many of
 which later agglomerate into
particles the size being controlled by rate of production and speed of
hydration. Too much current makes the
particles form fast before they can stablize at a given size range. With
stirring, the speed of ion production
can be increased by increasing current without making larger particles.

I read on this list that the saturation point of ionic silver in distilled
 water at room temperature was
13 PPM, so, anything beyond 13 PPM will form particles of colloidal silver in
much the same way that rock
candy crystals are made.

this water be good enough for making CS? Or, should I seek out real

I think the tech stuff is at about the same level as it has been for
some months, it is just not as diluted as before.
These discussions do get pretty robust at times and need a decorum
check, but it is amazing how this makes one redouble one's efforts in
research and so on...as long as one can admit to being mistaken, or at
least to not being as sure of one's ground...
I have found by experience that to speak in absolutes makes that bitter
pill very large and the throat very dry, when one eventually has to
 swallow it.

I have been ignoring Marsha's goading of the techies, but most certainly
do appreciate her constant newby help, (if only she would use two
 batteries instead of three).

Mike, perhaps you should amend the introduction message to new members,
inviting them to just ignore the technical discussions, and not to be
intimidated by them, and to reassure them that we all welcome their
 questions no matter how basic.

Thanks for your continuing efforts, and best of luck balancing on that

  Hi all,

It's always hard to strike a balance with my remarks. When one thing
has gotten out of hand and I take a swat at it, other things often
 rise
  up to take its place.

Such it is with Marsha and Roger nipping at each other. (Hi folks!)

The mo power folks have sorta filled the void left when much of the
OT chatter got shunted to the silver-off-topic-l...@yahoogroups.com
 ...
The particular set of conflicts took on too much weight, what with
nothing like Jason's testimonial and Beverle's questions to focus us.

Now, I hope we'll see the casual users come back out of hiding as we
rein in the tech guys a little -- without hammering the technical
  discussions out of existence either!

I don't see the need for a single purpose list, so I don't agree with
Marsha that the other guys should disappear. When they start hammering
each other, yes, but not when they're behaving themselves.

But what happens if nobody says anything about the simple stuff and
 our
willingness to help new people? What just happened is what happens!
All the helpful folks disappear and newcomers see only the technical
discussions (however well or il-behaved they may be at the moment).

It's usually been my job to pipe up once in a while to remind
 everyone,
and inform the lurkers, that we have a dual role to fill here and that
their basic questions are essential if we're going to be able to help
  them get what they need.

If I'm too busy to do that, which I have been, I think it's time to
 ask
some of you to step into the cheerleader role... Jason? Ivan? Marsha?
Any of a number of you are well suited to the task.

If there are no basic threads being worked, and it's been a day or two
of nothing but tech stuff, it's time to chime in with an anecdote or
comment and an invitation for questions.

No need to play list-cop or criticize anything else that's going on
(talk to me instead!). The tech guys'll keep doing their job if we
just let'em. Nope, just a reminder for any new folks that stumble in
 to
start askin' questions if they want to get some help.

Is it starting to make some sense folks?

My availability will rise and fall with my obligations here. I hope
that I can get some of you seasoned veterans to help keep us in
balance. Share the duties so nobody's under pressure, but take some
responsibility for keeping the equilibrium going.

  I welcome your feedback, folks.

CSLiquid Stevia..........

2000-12-09 Thread Tom Bassett
Silver Gang,

Stevia comes in liquid and powder form. The powder from
different companies varies in color and taste. The almost white
powder, consisting of 90% steviosides (the active ingredient),
seems to be the most palatable.

The liquid comes in 2 oz bottles and costs 6 to 8 dollars.
A bottle lasts a long time as it is used 2-3 drops to a drink.
Stevia has saved me thousands of sugar calories. Taste is good
in cool drinks, some getting used to in warm drinks.

The liquid is much easier to use and can be simply made from the powder.
Dissolve the powder into a small amount of liquid (say an ounce or two)
consisting of 50% good water and 50% vodka (ratio not critical) and stir
until the solution is saturated and no more powder will dissolve (approximately
2 to 3 tablespoonsful). That's it. Pretty close to the commercial liquid
Stevia.
One ounce of the powder will probably last 1 to 2 years or more.
Stay well,
Tom Bassetttb...@cyberwar.com

Liquid is approximately
7 to 9 dollars per 2 oz. Two oz lasts a long time as it is used
2-3 drops per drink.

Normally we'd take 50-100 mg./day for health.

Several others, vitamin E, and alkaline foods (alkalinizing your system)

Brings us back to the whole vitamin supplementation question...most people

CSO.T.....Using Caps...........

Because we use typed messages to communicate, we have very few ways to show

all caps is an expression

There are other typed ways of adding expression to our text, like smiley

to show we are laughing, joking or teasing, etc, etc. These little typed

to enhance communication inside this limiting media called typing.

It is generally accepted that using small letters is easier to read. A few
may
find it different, but most find all caps more difficult. But when I read
all
caps, I read it as being yelled at. If used sparingly as appropriate like
below, it adds emphasis. But all caps make it more like I am being yelled
at.

But on Bulletin boards and the net everyone HATES caps. WHY SHOULD CAPS
BOTHER ANYONE? That is a question I keep asking myself. Does not bother
me.
In fact mail is easier to read using caps.

Re: CSMaking alkaline water

1999-07-27 Thread Tom Bassett
Marshall, Jim and Alkaline water persons,

Since you've figured out how to make CS at a few pennies a gallon, how
about telling us how to make our own alkaline water at an affordable
price??

jim

It seems we may be altering the PH of the water
around our silver wires when we are making CS.

Is it possible that this is why we get the light gray colored
surface on one silver electrode and a darker coating on
the other silver electrode, (not the tree-ing or feathers)
even though the electrodes are made of the exact same alloy??

Alkaline water making related questions:

1. Does anyone know what DC voltage the water ionizers use to
create the alkaline/acid water?

2. The other question is: what is the membrane material used to separate
the alkaline/acid pH water in the chamber? Some kind of available
reverse osmosis sheet maybe available from a water conditionong co.??

We may be a lot closer to making alkaline water then we realize.
Let's find more information and see if it's possible to
go further with a simple design as we did with CS!

CSDistilled water only...........

1999-07-01 Thread Tom Bassett
To the New CS makers,

I've been making CS for 10 months, a couple batches
a week. Using steam distilled water is THE MOST IMPORTANT
part of generating a successful batch of CS.

Takes me about an hour to make 20 ounces. Less time if a
tablespoon of previously made CS is added. Never saw the
benefit to heating the water, so no inputs on that subject.

For the seasoned CS makers:
Monitoring and limiting run current to 1 milli-amp made a
BIG difference in consistency and quality batch to batch.
Run time increases to about 2 hours though.
I almost always get clear CS with good Tyndall effect.

Stay healthy,
Tom Bassett

You're right Mike D., time to wind trails discussion down.

To Marshall, Joe and Bob:

It was interesting, people! Time will tell what really is.
Meanwhile, we all have properly made CS, thanks
to this great list.

CSAnother CS use...........

1999-05-24 Thread Tom Bassett
Hi CS users,

Another use for the occasional CS batch that doesn't look
appealing enough to ingest, is to put some of this
CS in the bird bath water. The water in my bird bath
goes yucky in about 3 days. With a cup of CS added, it
stayed clean for more than a week. (so far!)

The Silver List Hams.......

1998-01-31 Thread Tom Bassett
Hello List, 1/31/98

At last count we now have a grand total of 12 Amateur radio operators
on our great list.

Seeing as the information was given freely and proudly by each ham,
I made a list of the names and calls (in the sequence I received them).
If there are any errors, please correct.

Each operator could add notations to this list along side their call
as to what band and/or frequencies they use. Just think, The Silver Net.
Talk about getting the word out !!!

Re: Boiling CS Solution

1998-01-28 Thread Tom Bassett
Hello Silver Listers,

Here is a thought on the color change of our CS.

Silver particles are light sensitive. Silver is the major component
of photographic film. A clear glass jar of pale silvery gray CS with
no visible color will turn pale yellow in 3 to 5 hours when exposed
to light in a well lit room at room temperature.!

Add the heat and the solution will probably go yellow
in a much shorter period of time as heat accelerates
most processes.

Amber glass jars keep my CS solution silvery gray for a week
or more. I have never seen any mention of whether the pale silver
or the golden CS is the better solution, healthwise.

For good health, Tom Bassett

Microscope use.......

1998-01-19 Thread Tom Bassett
Hello Listers,

My method of making CS is to put 30 volts DC across two 4 inch
long, .999 silver wires, sitting 1 1/2 inches apart in 16 oz of clear,
de-ionized water until I get an indication of a starting mist.

Counting time from this event, I de-plate silver particles from the
positive element for 30 minutes. After stirring, I get a uniform, slightly
gray,
misty solution. I view the liquid by passing a strong, narrow beam
of light through the side of the glass jar with a Mag-lite pencil/pocket
flashlight. The misty look in the beam proves to me I have silver particles.

I have placed a drop of this CS under a microscope and,
using various powers up to 400, have not been able to see any
indication of silver particles.

Was this power level too low for observing CS particles? I understand
correct particle size to be .001-.015 microns. Are these sizes too small
to be seen @ 400X? Would a dark field microscope show particles at this power?

Any suggestions/comments/help out there?

Listening...Tom Bassett

Supplier of fine (.999) silver....

1998-01-16 Thread Tom Bassett
Hello Silver listers,

One other source of .999 silver wire:

Hauser Miller, inc
10950 Lin-Valle Drive
St. Louis, Mo. 63123
(800) 462-7447 or (314) 487-1311

They price silver wire as follows:

12 gage wire (.080 diameter)
one ounce = 3 feet long, and costs $11.50

Minimum order is $25.00,
which yields 2 oz (approx. 6 ft) for $23.00 plus small
shipping fee.

For those who need a minimum amount, they will sell you 1 oz
@ 11.50 plus a $3.50 minimum charge fee, total $15.00.

A call to them will confirm these numbers. Hope this helps.

Have good days.Tom Bassett

Silver suppliers......

1998-01-09 Thread Tom Bassett
Hello Listers,

Here are a few sources of fine (.999 pure) silver:

Hauser Miller, inc
10950 Lin-Valle Drive
St. Louis, Mo. 63123
(314) 487-1311

They price silver wire as follows:

12 gage wire (.080 diameter)
one ounce = 3 feet long
one ounce costs $11.50
Minimum order is $25.00

The us mint started minting .999 pure U.S. silver eagles
in the1980's, so a well stocked coin store should carry
these, for a quick emergency source.

I think Canada also has a pure silver coin (Canadian
silver eagle) check it out.

I hope the above information is accurate and helps
those who need a source of fine silver for their CS.

Have good days!
Tom Bassett
