Re: CSSeptic Tank Safety

2009-09-29 Thread zoe w

My dear Marshall,

Blackfoot people are NOT from Montana. That is where we were
placed by the US government. Our language is Algonquin in origin
same as Cherokee and are so similar that conversations can be made
between the two without difficulty.
Blackfoot originated on the East Coast and were probably offshoots
of stranded Vikings many eons ago. Light skin, sandy hair and blue
eyes are not uncommon even in the so-called Full Bloods. My
gggrandmother was Full Blood and her white name was Blanche which
means white in French.
Over time we migrated westward in pursuit of food, etc. Also
because we liked to go our own way and do our own thing and did not
blend well with other tribes. We were the wild ones Our history
does NOT include crossing the Bering Strait and our genetic
structure supports that claim- we do NOT have that genetic marker.
Our history states clearly that we were already here when the
others crossed over. Blanche was supposedly born in Tennessee, but
considering the way the BIA kept records I doubt it.
It just so happens that the family was visiting when the BIA decided
to record her birth.
We ( my direct family)were from South Dakota originally but have
migrated to many places since then.
Most of us wound up in Canada. And yes, most of us have other blood
as well, doesn't matter- today Indian is Indianthe so'called
traditional cultures have mostly been blended to fill in the gaps
for those that were lost during the generations we were denied
access. It only means something if you FEEL that heritage inside
and live by the codes. MOST of what is being touted as Indian
today is a derivative of either Lakota or Cherokee . Then you
have the Hopi who did not lose their Heritage and the Navajo who have
recreated all but two of their sacred ceremonies.

Re: CSSeptic Tank Safety

2009-09-27 Thread Garnet

I think the impact would depend on how much CS reaches your
septic tank, the capacity of the tank and how full it is. In
other

words the ratio of CS to microbes. If you just had your tank
pumped I would either leave some for a starter or use the
commercial starters with very high counts that the pumpers
sometimes sell. The grocery store stuff is not great but it's
better than nothing.

Yes, CS will negativly affect the septic tank operation. That said, it
depends on how much CS gets into the tank and how often.

A little (an ounce or two) may slow down digestion a lot will stop it.
I don't want to even think about the cost of having someone, in the
dead of winter, come out , face the dogs and shotguns to pump it out.
If I were young enough to live in a wonderful place like yours, I might
consider a seperate gray water system.

LOL,actually no one will be coming out in the dead of winter
because our road is impassable for most of 8 months out of the
year.Worst case scenario is we muck it out ourselves and Im
certainly not looking forward to that situation. =-O

One or two ouncesonce a week or even less should not be a
problem since we are also flushing the dregs of Kefir and Kombucha
down the drain daily, both heavy in yeasts and bacteria.Yeasts
of several types are also readily available.

I do like the gray water solution, just might give that a try.

LOL At the top of a mountain in the Smokey's- 7 miles up a
winding and treacherous gravel road from the main road. Only
visitors we ever get are LOST and they don't stay long once

they see the dogs and the shotguns.

Im going to rephrase the question I asked yesterday.

Does CS interfere with the proper functioning of a Septic
Tank?

Yes there are those of us who live in the country where
these archaic appliances are still necessary since we do
not have access to a city sewer system. In fact, where I live
we don't even have mail delivery !!!By some miracle we do
have highspeed internet which goes to show you how priorities
have changed in the past 50 yrs.

If anyone can shed any light on the above question it
would be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks
 zoe
