2012-03-24 Thread PTFerrance
Someone from this list recommended www.coconutoil-online.com I tried the
coconut oil and it had no coconut taste and seemed to be of a high quality.
Close to the same price as I pay for I quality Extra Virgin from another
site and I found that I like the taste of coconut as I find it makes
swallowing 2 T of fat easier if it tastes good.

The also offer some other interesting things.

Hi Lois,

I checked out oleolux as I had never heard of it before. It looks good but
I would sorely miss butter as I like the sweet taste of it on things like
whole grain hot cereals and I have to be careful with onions and garlic as I
have turned up a food sensitivity to them in the past. I'm glad it serves

I use expeller coconut oil (from tropical traditions). The coconut smell
and taste literally is intolerable to me, though I used the virgin CO
for years, suddenly one day I could no longer gag it down, and the smell
of it for cooking gagged me too. I never did actually like it though.

That's been my problem too. I like the flavor in some things, but not in items

retained the healthful qualities of the virgin CO but I haven't found it.

Even though I like the flavor of coconut generally, I like the more
neutral taste of Nutiva's VCO, as there are so many other subtle
flavors in foods I'd don't want to overshadow with a heavily-coconut
flavored oil. just my 2¢.

I have also just tried Barleans Extra Virgin Coconut Oil and found it had a
very mild/subtle taste. I would buy it again.

Elizabeth..I can't stand coconut but I use Nutiva brand coconut oil
for cooking, eating and moisterizing and have no problem with a strong
coconut odor. When I first open the jar, there is a faint whiff of
coconut, but that is it. Lola

I have heard only excellent things about these guys.

I love coconut. The oil, the fruit, the water, the milk, the dried stuff on

Hi
Lois,

I
checked out oleolux as I had never heard of it before. It looks good but I
would sorely miss butter as I like the sweet taste of it on things like
whole
grain hot cereals and I have to be careful with onions and garlic as I have
turned up a food sensitivity to them in the past. I'm glad it serves you
well.

One
thing I saw on the site, I believe, was that the supreme coconut oil is for
taking unheated and they have one that is one grade down that is used for
cooking.

I'm
glad you are doing better.

Blessings,
PT

Puritan Pride (puritan.com) has "organic extra virgin" coconut oil -- no
odor or taste -- nice for cooking, especially something light like
scrambled eggs -- pan stays clean.

Re: CS>(LL) Anyone know the best site for info on coconut oil ?

2012-03-25 Thread phoenix23002 tds.net
PT.. Coconut Oil is one of the most stable oils to cook with and it
keeps forever without going rancid. Here is part of an article...

http://www.truthaboutabs.com/unhealthy-vs-healthy-cooking-oils.html
...
Saturated fats are actually the healthiest oils to cook with!

Why? Because they are much more stable and less inflammatory than
polyunsaturated oils.

This is why tropical oils such as palm and coconut oils (and even
animal fats such as butter) are best for cooking... they have very
little polyunsaturates and are mostly composed of natural saturated
fats which are the least reactive to heat/light and therefore the
least inflammatory in your body from cooking use.

That's also why natural butter (NOT margarine) is one of the best fats
for cooking. This all goes directly against what you hear in
mainstream health talk... because most health professionals don't
truly understand the biochemistry of fats, and falsely believe that
saturated fats are bad for you... when in fact, they are actually
neutral in most instances... and saturated fats from tropical oils are
actually good for you as they contain mostly medium chain
triglycerides (MCTs) which are lacking in most people's diets.

In fact, lauric acid is one of the abundant MCTs in tropical oils and
is known to strengthen the immune system. Lauric acid is even being
studied currently in medical studies for controlling contagious
diseases.

To summarize... your best cooking or baking fats are generally butter
or tropical oils such as palm or coconut oil. Olive oil (extra virgin
preferably) is ok for lower cooking temps as it's mostly
monounsaturated, so moderately stable. The mostly polyunsaturated
oils such as soybean, grapeseed, cottonseed, safflower, etc, are the
least healthy for cooking or baking
continued...

Re: CS>(LL) Anyone know the best site for info on coconut oil ?

2012-03-25 Thread Rowena
To summarize... your best cooking or baking fats are generally butter or
tropical oils such as palm or coconut oil.

Palm oil is a no no in this household, as it gives DH a migraine.
We tried the Kraft breakfast biscuits last week, which are new here in
Oz, though I believe old hat in the US and Europe.

Next day, DH bad head.
I wondered whether there might be palm oil in them (they were too sweet
to eat, anyway, really).
I looked on net, and noticed they seemed to have different oils in
different countries.
Looked on the site they said would contain more information - it
contained less than on the pack.
Went to the Kraft site - still no info found. Filled in a contact form,
received a phone call from a rep.

I had "guessed" they might be using palm oil.
He said he could confirm they did not use hydrogenated palm oil.
Then after a pause, that I was right, that there was palm oil in it.

It is well known for headaches, apparently, palm oil. Years ago we
tried some carob chocolate, bang, migraine. Told homeopath; he said it
is probably palm oil, not the carob. Checked the label, sure enough,
palm oil.

Many people would not use it on principle anyway, because of the damage
done to native forests when they are cleared to make palm oil plantations.

Oh, and folks, do some research on Rice Bran Oil. Good stuff.
My oils: coconut, virgin olive, rice bran. I do have some other
wonderful oils, but I seem never to use them. Butter - yes, yes.

OK

I agree about the palm oil. But.. I was giving you the article in
it's entirety and did agree with the writer about his references to
coconut oil. Palm oil can be some nasty stuff. lol.. Generally
speaking, any prefabbed foods or processed foods will have some
undesirable ingredients in them. What are the advantages of rice
bran oil?

And you are so right. There are some wonderful oils out there (for
salads, etc) if high heat tolerance isn't necessary. I read
somewhere tho that almost all oils are already rancid by the time we
purchase them (whether organic or cold-pressed or not) and get them
home with the exception of coconut oil. Some say coconut oil can last
ten years or more?Lola

Re: CS>(LL) Anyone know the best site for info on coconut oil ?

2012-03-27 Thread 123 456
Hi All,
thought I would put my 2 cents into this discussion.
I just tried a new coconut 'milk' I picked up at the supermarket last week.
I thought it would taste like coconuts, but was quite surprised to
find that there was virtually NO taste of coconut whatsoever.
I used it in my hot chocolate and it made up into the best drink I've
had in along time.It is from a new company called SO Delicious
distributed by Turtle Mountain P.O. Box 21938 Eugene Oregon USA 97402
1- 866-388-7853 Certified Biologic no sweeteners and very pleasant to drink.
I'm going to try it on my hemp grainola tomorrow morning as a milk substitute.
Still my morning butter though!
Tara

www.swansonvitamins.com has the best price. Tropical Traditions has a lot
of info on coconut oil. They also sell a cheap booklet on co. High prices
though, they frequently have BOGO but even that is still high.

Re: Ro // Re: CS>(LL) Anyone know the best site for info on coconut oil ?

I bought 5 gallons coconut oil from Tropical Traditions for $32 per gallon
including taxes and shiping.
I thought that was a good price. Guess I should have looked around more.

I think it is an excellent price..it works out to the same price I
would pay for LouAna coconut oil in my local grocery store.
I'm not sure where one would get a better price for quality,
non-chemical extracted coconut oil. I have concern that the LouAna is
chemically extracted and bleached...they do not use hexane, but I
think there are other chemicals they might be using, maybe not as bad,
but still.
When I run out of TT, I do use LouAna though, and to be perfectly
honest, so far I cannot tell any difference in smell/taste or
performance between the two brands. But I do use expeller process
coconut oil only because I cannot stand the taste and smell of virgin
coconut oil (of any of the 5 brands I've tried).

I just looked and the Swanson's coconut oil prices are MUCH higher than
what Brickey paid.
