AOL closed down their AIM service in December 2017!

Note that Pidgin doesn't provide accounts, it simply allows you to 
access accounts with various services, but many of the service have 
closed down recently.

Need Help With Smileys

Using Pidgin 2.13.0 and XMPP protocol smileys appear as a square
with two rows of numbers (ex. 01F 642).  I've tried many
different smiley themes without joy.  Can someone provide a
solution?

You don't have a pidgin account.  Accounts belong to the server and 
pidgin is the client.  If you tell us whose server it is, someone may be 
able to tell you whether that server supports what you are trying to do.

Thanks for the reply, nullclient started working after I ran "sudo make
install". Seems like something from make install was needed to complete the
configuration, I'll need to find out what it is since I need to run the
code on a server that does not have a development environment.

Need help getting started with libpurple

I'm new to libpurple and am trying to programmatically send an AOL IM
message, I don't need the ability to receive messages.
I compiled pidgin2.12.0 and am running libpurple/example/nulclient, but it
fails to get any protocols.
I'm guessing that some configuration is missing, maybe in prefs.h? I have
not been able to find the format for prefs.h or a sample file.
Seems like status.xml, accounts.xml, blist.xml are also missing. Are sample
files available for these?

I am not an IT person.  I found Pidgin while trying to find a good

Need Help on Getting the logs

Are you sure that the protocol that you are using is AIM or it's xmpp  ?
As you are working for oracle why not ask your IT service  ?

Hi.. I use ICQ. Through Pidgin.
I have 2 contacts in my ICQ client.And the rest is in Pidgin.
Yesterday i had to reformat my computer.Reinstalled Windows etc etc.
Installed Pidgin and ALL my buddies was gone except the 2 from the ICQ client..
What happend?
Can i get my buddies/contacts back somehow?

This sounds like a server-side roster issue. Which isn't something pidgin
has control of or influence over in the presence of server-enforced
shared/pre-populated roster groups (which you are almost certainly using).

In short, you need to ask your internal IM service admins about this.

Since you appear to be using it for work, and you are mailing from an
oracle.com address, I would suggest that you speak with your IT support
department. It isn't clear from your email which service you are using.

Need help troubleshooting

Hi There,

I am having trouble seeing buddyies using Gtalk and XMPP for my own 
domain (through talk.gmail.com). When adding the account it shows that 
it is signing in, but there are no buddies shown. I used this:


1. Click on Accounts--Manage Accounts
2. Click on Add
3. In the login options, select protocol as XMPP
4. Put username as your Kondra mail id (everything before @)
5. Put domain as kondra.com
6. Put your password in the password field.
7. Click on Advanced tab in the Add account window.
8. In the connect server put talk.google.com
9. Save  close.

For gmail account
1. Click on Accounts--Manage Accounts

4. Put username as your Gmail id (everything before @)
5. Put domain as gmail.com
6. Put your password in the password field.

protocols.  You need accounts on both services, or some third party 
server that is a gateway.

I'm not familiar in C/C++ programming. I analyze C examples and 
transform them to Free Pascal. Free Pascal have no dbus-glib bindings 
yet, so I can't use this example:

pidgin signals. This works but only on my computer. When I send this

I'm trying to write this same in pure C to confirm what is the cause. As 
mentioned earlier, I'm not familiar in C and below example is compiling

I think what he really means is that he want to access Oracle's private 
XMPP server from the mobile, the answer to which is to ask Oracle's 
internal IT support.

explain the sound.  Pigeon is quite limited with the options to select sound 
and everything that is reasonable is selected.

The sound I chose is tada and yes, it plays fine in the preview mode.

Ironically, right now the sound is working.  So maybe when I re-installed this 
morning it finally took.  Im not holding my breath though as yesterday it was 
working then would go silent for no reason in middle of conversation.

Ill just accept this as a gift and let it be.

Can you as Pigeon experts ...explain why the sound would disappear even though 
all the selections are checked, preview plays fine etc.

If it is not our Beehive server what causes this?  I sent a message corporate 
wide to see if anyone else has experienced this and only one person replied

Note, it is Pidgin, not Pigeon.

It isn't possible for us to guess why you're experiencing problems.
This isn't a problem that others have reported, so I assume that it is
something related to how you're using it or your system configuration.

You really sent an email Oracle-wide about this?  I find that hard to believe.

If you capture a debug log (http://d.pidgin.im/wiki/TipsForBugReports)
from when the issue is occurring, perhaps that will provide some sort
of information that can be used to figure out what the problem is.

i m using pidgin 2.7.3 from long time , and i found on my cell latest update 
notification of new version of pidgin 2.7.5 for my N900 nokia cell.
I opend pidgin.im official site from my mobile browser , and there on main page 
i found  download  resource file of pidgin size about 9 mb.
When i downloaded , my mobile start installing but i found error  crupeted 
file .

I dont know what is the problem !
Plese help me and send me full instruction to install new version of pidgin in 
my device...step by step in detail.

You will have to wait until it is updated in the repos for the N900. 
There are certain tweaks that have to be made for it to run in the 
desktop environment that the N900 uses. Your best bet is to remove any 
traces of the version you installed and reinstall from the repo.

I have installed Pidgin 2.7.2.

Iam trying to do voice chat with one of my friends.. text chat goes fine..
But audio chat gives follwing error.. when establishing audio chat..

I’m Oracle user and we’re using our pidgin. I’ve the problem bec’ I can’t see 
my on-line colleagues in my list. What I’ve to do is I’ve to show all off-line 
colleagues. When I ping my colleagues, the pidgin shows me the status of my 
colleague as off-line. I try to reinstall it, but it’s still same. Please 
advise what did I do wrong. Thanks!

Tried (for many HOURS) to connect to AIM at the University of 
Delawarecannot get sign-on to enable.

Here's what I have done:
O Got a user name for yahoo.com and confirmed through e-mail.
O Tried to get a use name from AIM.com. (used confirmed yahoo sign on as well 
as a new AIM signon)

Went to enable in Pidgin and neither sign-on can be enabled

need help - packaging a pidgin plugin

Hi,
I will summarize my problem like this.
I have developed a pidgin plugin for both linux and windows flat forms.
Now I can package my program to a windows installer setup ( exe ) file and
it works fine in windows.
Now my problem is that this plugin uses Bonjour so If I install the plugin
on a windows machine which Bonjour has not installed Bonjour then the plugin
does not loaded to pidgin. its not working.
Therefore when I install the plugin I need to check whether the Bonjour
Windows toolkit has already installed on the machine and if so no problem.
Otherwise If Bonjour toolkit is not installed then I need the installer
wizard to prompt to install Bonjour windows toolkit setup from my plugin
installation and the start plugin installation.
In this case I think I need to bundle both plugin installer and Bonjour
toolkit installer into a single installation pack. But I have no idea how to
do that.

Is this the idle way to handle this situation. If its then how to pack two
installers to a single pack?

I used cross compilation and used nsis to create windows installer for my
pidgin plugin.

Avahi simply isn't going to work on Windows.  You might be able to
update your plugin to use the Bonjour SDK, but it isn't going to be
trivial.

/usr/include/avahi-glib/  it returns thousands of errors.
I use mingw to cross compile.
Is there seperate package ( avahi SDK or something ) specially release for
windows developments ?
Or otherwise how can I come across my problem.

Hi I have an Belco Alpha 400 notebook that I purshase from Geeks.com 3 months 
ago it uses the Linux's operating system and it has Pidgin IM. Well up till 2 
days ago it was working find and I was using Yahoo Messager with no problems, 
but when I got up on Tuesday Morning July 7th it would no longer aloud me to 
use the messager,  it will no longer pull up my Buddy List nor will it let me 
put any in manually. Also it is giving me error messages saying it no longer 
reconize yahoo messager at all. I spent  the last 2 days trying to trouble 
shoot  it myself which did me no good. So  I need help with this problem. You

Your wifi? Someone elses WiFi? What version of Pidgin? What error 
message? Can you connect to say MSN? AIM?

A LOT more details are needed than I cannot connect.

NEED HELP

I've been using pidgin for quite some time now and i really really like it.
my problem is is that i logged in and all of a sudden all i see on my buddy
lists are names and x's... and my smilies all they are is x's too so i dont
know what i can do

please help!!! its frustrating me to not fix it

Assuming you're using Windows, the SOP for dealing with this type of thing
is to reinstall both GTK+ and Pidgin while no other GTK+ applications are
running (immediately after a reboot would be best to ensure this).

 (correct) password, but Pidgin keeps saying my password is 
 incorrect.  I've typed in the password several times very slowly and 
 recieve the same error.  I have downloaded the standalone IM for 
 MySpace if that matters.

The screen name here is actually supposed to be your email address that you
use to log in at myspace.com

Hi,

I got Pidgen to work with MySpace (thank you!), but I'm still having
problems with Yahoo.  I opened the debug window and saw an error with Yahoo
(well it was in red and everything elase was in black) that said :  
(03:26:02) yahoo: Unhandled service 0x07

Any ideas?

I just downdoalded Pidgin 2.3.1 after a friened told me about it.  I got MSN
Messenger and Google Talk to work ok, all the buddies showed up.  But  

1)  When I add Yahoo, it will connect but none of my buddies show up and I

2)  I'm trying to add MySpace Im, I put in the screen name and the (correct)
password, but Pidgin keeps saying my password is incorrect.  I've typed in
the password several times very slowly and recieve the same error.  I have
downloaded the standalone IM for MySpace if that matters.
