Bookmark behavior

2011-11-05 Thread Joe32065
In the past few versions of SeaMonkey going to Bookmarks/File Bookmark
has a most annoying "improvement". Instead of seeing all my folders and
choosing where to file the new bookmark, I now only see 5 folders and
have to click on Choose to see the rest. How is this supposed to be
helpful? Is there a way to change it back, so it will work like on
older versions? Thanks

Instead of clicking on the drop-down menu (which show the most recent
folders where you did save bookmarks), click on the button with the
down-pointing triangle right to the right of it. It will open the full
bookmarks tree.

On the SeaMonkey menu bar, select [Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks] or else
(on Windows) use Ctrl-B. Another alternative is to install the PrefBar
extension and then import the Bookmarks Manager button from
, which is what I
do.

Prefbar doesn't work with Seamonkey 2.5(b).

Can you make it work by editing its install.rdf file?

I'm using version 2.4.1. with the default theme. When I click on
Bookmarks/File Bookmark and the
New Bookmark box opens, I can click on the downward triangle. That
helps some, however the box is not re-sizable. Now I can see six
folders and have to use the scroll bar to see the rest. If you could
make the New Bookmarks re-sizable and the new size would
stick.(Everytime you go to file bookmark you would get the last used
size) and Change the behavior of the big and little triangles it would
be easier. The way it used to be was perfect.
Opening the Bookmark Manager does not seem to help. When you click on
file new bookmark, the Name and URL of the current page that you are
trying to file is not there and you have to do a lot of cutting and pasting.
The only good thing is that Firefox, Opera, and Internet Explorer all
are just as bad. The old version of SeaMonkey was so much more user
friendly if you have hundreds of bookmarks in a dozen or more folders.

I have over 900 bookmarks organized into over 100 folders, subfolders,
sub-subfolders, etc. [Bookmarks > Bookmarks Manager] meets my needs
better than it did in SeaMonkey 2.0.x primarily because the old version
was too buggy.

If you select [Bookmarks > File Bookmark], you must then select the Save
button on the New Bookmark popup dialogue. The new bookmark is then
entered at the bottom of the bookmarks, which was the same behavior that
existed with the old version.

The only feature missing was something from Netscape 4. I could create
pseudo-bookmarks (called shortcuts) that pointed to real bookmarks. If
I changed the real bookmark or any of its shortcuts, the change would
automatically propagate to the others. Thus, I could have a bookmark
for Medicare under both a Health folder and a Federal Government folder;
if I had to change the URI on one, the other would get the same change.

Actually, I do believe that the new Places has something similar,
although it's not very well exposed in the UI. Instead of having a
"master" bookmark and shortcuts, you can have the same bookmark in
different folders at the same time -- they all point to the same entry
in the database.

Hi,

I have a somewhat different bookmark problem, and am hoping that someone
in this group can help me.

In my older PC with Windows XP Pro, my bookmarks in SM 2.0.14 are in
hierarchal form, that is, each folder has a + and can be opened with
minuses. However, when I used an USB cable to transfer my data to my new
PC with Windows 7, the bookmarks went to a different place. On the new
PC, they are not in the SM bookmarks area. Instead they are in their own
separate folder, with no + or - at all, and are all run-ons . Inasmuch
as I have literally several thousand bookmarks, it is very difficult to
go through many of them to find what I need.

What must I do to put those bookmarks in my new PC into their proper
place in SM? This problem is preventing me from using my new and much
better PC.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Easiest way to transfer bookmarks/etc for separate computers is to
install the newer SeaMonkey (2.4.1 at present) and use SeaMonkey Sync.

If the file you transferred was a real bookmarks file from an older
version of SeaMonkey, do the following:

1. On the SeaMonkey menu bar, select [Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks].

Dear Justin,
On my Windows7 version 2.0.14 I downloaded and installed 2.5.x over it,
it stayed on 2.014... What now? *regedit* as on XP? I am

Hi David,

Thanks a lot for your response. I did exactly as you advised, but when I
entered the file name of the bookmarks file, the screen said that it was
not a valid file name. Of course it is, as I copied it exactly from the
actual file. When I tried just using the word bookmarks, then it led me
to the bookmarks file which is not in SM and has no + and - capabilities.

Did you NAVIGATE to the transferred file in the file selection window?
You should have seen the file in the window and merely selected it to be
imported. That file will NOT have + or - capabilities. After you
import it, however, the result will be an SQLite database containing
bookmarks.

After importing, you view the database by going to [Bookmarks > Manage
Bookmarks] on the SeaMonkey menu bar. There, you should indeed have +
and - capabilities.

Nope. It will install, but it isn't functional. Under
Edit/Preferences, there are no available items (buttons)
listed for the Preferences Toolbar. It's completely blank.
There is no Prefbar pull-down menu, and pressing F8 does
nothing.

As I wrote to D.E.R., it will install, but it isn't
functional. Under Edit/Preferences, there are no available
items (buttons) listed for the Preferences Toolbar. It's
completely blank. There is no Prefbar pull-down menu, and
pressing F8 does nothing.

PrefBar 6.0.1 true

I think I'll try it in a new clean profile, but I'll be
suprised if it makes any difference.

On the SeaMonkey menu bar, select [Bookmarks > Manage
Bookmarks] or else (on Windows) use Ctrl-B. Another
alternative is to install the PrefBar extension and then
import the Bookmarks Manager button from
 ,
 which is what I do.

< *SURPRISED* > Well, what'd'ya know. It works. With a fresh
profile, the button items are now there. The toolbar works
with F8. At first, I didn't see any Prefbar pull-down menu,
but found it hiding in the "Customize Toolbars" pane.

Now I'll just have to rebuild the new profile to find out what
other add-on was causing a conflct with Prefbar.

SeaMonkey 2.1 Bookmark behavior

2011-06-11 Thread Joe32065
In the past I would click on FileBookmark and be able to scroll to the
folder I want. Now there is an extra unnecessary step.
Bookmarks>FileBookmarks>BookmarksMenu>Choose. It will show only Choose
and a few folders under choose. If the folder I want is not one of the
few, then clicking on choose allows you to see the rest of your folders.
This is a fine example of fixing something that was not broken. Is
there any way to make this go back to the way it was?

Thanks
