Sure I did. I also saw that there was only one tab open.

From here if I select to hide the tab bar when only one tab is open,

I find it very useful as I have Lightning's calendar loaded and if I
choose to invoke it I can toggle between my mail or my calendar and in
my browser I never open a new window just a new tab, much handier in MY
opinion. We all have our preferences, there is a lot of things I use and
many I do not but I do not insist that those I do not use be taken out
just because I do not use them.
JAS

If I want to look at a Calendar I can through Yahoo widgets. I have two
one is a Yahoo Calendar, the other is a Google Calendar I do that so if
one crash at main site I can use the other to rebuild a new one.

Its one thing if you add on an extension such as lightning have it add
the tab. But those of use not interested in keeping track of every
second we take a Breath just don't bother us with fluff not needed or
wanted. Thank goodness we can still turn off tabs.

I can't live without tabs in my browser. And I have started to really
like the tabs on the Mail application too! Much better than having a
bunch of different windows laying around.

I quite agree, a tabless browser would be pretty much useless to me at
this point. I see the same advantage in Mail/News.

But, it is so easy to hide the tab bar and just not use it, that I can't
see why this has become anything even like an issue.

Its not an issue for now as long as it can be removed. when the
command are removed to allow turning tabs off. then it will become one.

I don't read here every day or every posting and i'm too lazy to reread

There is a ui pref for it, as I stated in another mesage in htis thread,
no eed to use about:config.

Lee
there is also one force hide for browser tabs as well. Maybe this will
stop the tab coming up when you install a new version of SM or FF. I'll
have to set that as well in FireFox. to get rid of them forever.

So you think that because you don't like tabs, then nobody should have

I find it very useful as I have Lightning's calendar loaded and if I

If I want to look at a Calendar I can through Yahoo widgets. I have
two one is a Yahoo Calendar, the other is a Google Calendar I do that

Its one thing if you add on an extension such as lightning have it
add the tab. But those of use not interested in keeping track of every

I would drown in windows without Tabs!

I'm looking forward to tabs in email, but I'm going wait till December

Once place its not needed is in mail and news. if don't show tabs if one
window is open is not ticked (in Tabbed browsing) a Tab shows up in mail
or new I have a screen shot to document it.

The implementation does not seem to be there yet, but when it is working
correctly, I would certainly like the ability to messages in tabs in
Mail/News. For example, viewing a post, then a reply to it in a tab,
particularly when the original is snipped drastically.

Then again, I can't imagine functioning without tabs in the browser
either. I think the advice is the same in either case, just don't use
them. My question was, when is a tab opening that you don't want to open?

I can open a message in a new tab by middle clicking it. I can open in
a new window, (which I never do) by double clicking it, just as 1.1.18
always behaved.

Just because the application has a new feature, which I think many will
value, doesn't mean that you have to use it if it doesn't work for you.

Must be a Windows Bug , Because clicking on hide tab bar if only one
page open does hide the tab Bar. But then you have to also click Link
open behavior in new window, and links for other applications in New
windows. But even then on rare occasions even if you set to windows
rather than tabs something will open in a Tab. when they do that I
immediately quit that link. One place that this happens is when you
install a new version of SM, FF it will always open the You have just
load the latest version ... Page in a new tab. despite having set for
use existing window.

Its as if they are trying to say ... look what tabs look like you bunch
of dummies that use windows. Its always been this way since the first
mozilla program started with tabs.

Yes there is a tab bar, but only one tab is open. From here, if I
choose to hide the tab bar when only one tab is open, Mail/News honors
that, so if tabs are not being used, it should not display.

See other messages for possible uses of tabs in Mail/News. Actually,
this has been a much asked for feature, and has great possibilities.

I do not want any tabs in seamonkey 2.0 . How do I get rid of the TABS.
I have unchecked every thing that pertains to Tans in Preferences . Do I
have to Go back to ver 1.1.18 to Eliminate Tabs ?

I haven't tested much, but you could try these settings:

Tabbed browsing was a feature in SeaMonkey 1.1.18 (and earlier 1.1.x
versions). I've seen no differences in tabbed browsing with SeaMonkey
2.0 other than some very esoteric bugs in housekeeping when shutting
down or switching profiles.

Go to Mozdev at http://www.mozdev.org/ for quick access to
extensions for Firefox, Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, and other
Mozilla-related applications. You can access Mozdev much
more quickly than you can Mozilla Add-Ons.

He's probably talking about the new tabs within the e-mail reader. I
don't care for them either. Can anyone point out to me the advantage of
tabs in an e-mail reader? And...the setting hide tab when only one is
open does work. That's my solution.

That the exact settings I have and there is no tabs, I too despise to
even look at tabs. And to beat it all SM has even added a tab bar for
emails as well, what's up with that??? Tabs are a resource hog. everyone
of those page snapshots if you will takes up memory. If you have one or
two open , no big deal. But if you are over that, it eats away at
memory. If I can save up to get one of those machines with 8-16GB of
System RAM and fast SAT Drive. I might consider (I doubt it) looking at
Tabs. But for now I want my windows to switch from one window to another
and back

Same settings I have Here . Just maybe it is a Windows 7 thing? I never
saw any Tabs since Netscape 1.1 until Mozilla 2.0. And Yes I still have
the 1.44 Floppy that contained 1.1 setup.

There wasn't any tabs in NS 1.1.

Netscape had tabbed browsing starting with 6.0, and continued to the end
with 9.

Mozilla Suite had tabbed browsing from the beginning. 1.0 had it, as dd
every other version released, There was never a Mozilla 2.0, so I am
not sure where you are coming from on that one.

If you are talking about Firefox 2.0. well Firefox has also had tabbed
browsing since its inception as Phoenix.

The simplest answer is just don't use them. Maybe you could post an
example of when a tab opens when you don't want it to, so we can advise
you as to how to avoid it.

Netscape 7 was the first NS release to have it.

Mozilla 0.9.5 was the first Mozilla release to have it.
