Re: 2.53.1, IMAP, and RSS Feeds

2020-03-04 Thread root
Well, when I am an idiot I will admit it. I should have disabled
extensions one at a time before I posted here and wasted everyone's
time. Sorry to everyone.

The extension causing this erratic behavior is Lightbird 0.7.1.
I find it interesting since I think of that as a lightning/calendaring
addon...so not sure why it causes trouble for the Mail and News Reader.

It's a real shame because I use that extension to separate the Calendar
window from the Mail and News window which allows me to control in which
virtual desktop my calendar window starts and resides. Does not look
like there is going to be another update either...bummer.

Thanks to everyone, especially you Frank, for reminding me to look at
extensions when there are weird issues.

I have yet to see this problem. Probably extension or theme related. Do
you use a custom theme or mail/new related extensions? Anything in the

Richmond, when I've seen that type of thing ("worlds" when they

force me to use a Type font that I don't have installed, or a character
(e.g. ') which my preferred font does not support.

So yes, the fault does lie with the originator trying to force you to
use their font ... or not realising what they are trying to do.

Yes, that usually is caused when the originator of the message (the RSS
message in this case) uses HTML markup inconsistently.

Consider:
* Most state mandate that drivers have liability insurance.
* Employers are mandated to have worker's compensation insurance.
* If you live in a flood zone, flood insurance is mandatory.
* If your home has a mortgage, fire insurance is mandatory.

Why then is mandatory health insurance so bad??

SeaMonkey uses much of the same MailNews Core that is used by
Thunderbird. From my use of Thunderbird, it appears that RSS feeds are
received similar to POP3 E-mail messages (not IMAP). If I am correct,
the RSS messages thus remain on your computer until you delete them or
until your settings cause them to be deleted automatically.

RSS is broken, but all of my newsgroups on news.gmane.com (I'm
subscribed to approx 40), and news.eternal-september.org are working
just fine (linux Windows).

Thanks for your reply, Samuel. I might just go and add a comment to the
bug to make sure the devs know as well.

I've attached a patch to that bug. While it fixes the issue for me,
I'm not exactly sure that is the 'right code'. But I'll know
later when Neil picks at it. :P

RSS feeds

2011-05-16 Thread keith_w

I had them, back when I had SM 1.1.18 (day before yesterday).
Now that I've advanced to SM 2.0.13, my feeds are gone.

Looking back, it seems I have to re-subscribe.
I've long since forgotten how. Sighhh.
How DO I subscribe to said feeds, please?

Thanks ahead of time,

Go to their web page. Look at your URL bar, where you'll see the RSS
logo to the right. Click on that logo.

You can also click on RSS feeds within web pages, when they are offered
there.

Uhhh... If memory serves well, SM 1.x did NOT have an integrated RSS
reader in the mail reader. I don't remember if it had Smart Bookmarks,
that is, RSS feeds appearing as bookmark menus, a la Firefox -- I never
cared much for this feature.

Maybe you were using a third-party RSS reader extension, such as
NewsFox? I did use NewsFox back in the 1.1.x days, but I never liked it
very much. The RSS reader was one of the major incentives for upgrading
to 2.0.

RSS feeds

2009-06-30 Thread Keith Whaley

How can I access the preferences for rss feeds display?

Before I downloaded inforss_1_2_0 this morning I had my scroll bar set
so when a news feed item showed up, I could put my cursor over the
article title and get a short description of what the story dealt.
Now, with the newer version, I have lost a capability or two, and don't
recall how I can change it back!

Thanks ahead of time.

Re: RSS feeds display in SM2.0 nightly

I'm seeing the same issue, but it only seems to affect one of my many
rss feeds.
Interesting I'm seeing now only one feed *somewhat* displayed like
it used to (prior to May 2nd SM2.0 nightly), but all of the feeds are
still displayed with summary, no matter the setting used

I did a bit more testing:
- completely removing the account and its traces in my profile (feed
subdir), and then re-creating the account, re-subscribe to feeds: Same
result.
- I tried to subscribes to various feeds, same issue, always get the
summary, using the ugly default fonts, btw...
Another thing: would this have anything to do with DSS 1.0 or 2.0, or
Atom 1.0 or 2.0 ? (I don't know anything about the differences,
wikipedia should help me here.. :) ).

I still have the impression of a regression in SM nightlies.

Thanks !

Anyone interested or seeing the same issue ?
That is quite strange as I tried a clean profile, on Linux and Windows,
to get to the same result: no way to display HTML-formatted RSS, only
the article summary...
I hope this gets noticed eventually, or that someone would provide
directions on how to investigate further
