VFO and Dealers

2016-11-23 Thread Linda Mentink via Talk

Hi all,

Roger sent a note to the NFB of Wisconsin news list last week. He
said that they are getting rid of all the dealers. The handwriting is
deffinitely on the wall, and there's nothing that the customers and
dealers can do about it.

I suggest we stop discussing it here because of it, and just deal
with the process the best way each of us can. Use Window-Eyes until
the current version doesn't work anymore, or change to NVDA or
something else. We're powerless against such a big conglomerate.

Happy Thanksgiving to all here.

Blessings,

Linda

Purpose of This List

2016-10-15 Thread Linda Mentink via Talk
The purpose of this list is to get help and have questions
answered about Window-Eyes. While I have appreciated some of the
information I have gleaned from this list, I don't need all the
useless chatter. Please, people, get back to help and question
mode. What will be will be, and there's not much we can do about
it. Because of the internet give-away by our President, all this
might be mute very soon. Appreciate what you have in Window-Eyes
right now. Get over it already!

Get Built-in Optical Character Recognition and a Faster User

Window-Eyes 9.3 is now available providing customers with the
ability to recognize text from files or the screen with built in
Optical Character Recognition. This version also offers a more
reliable and stable user experience that will help maximize your
productivity at work, home, and school.
Keep reading to learn more about the features and enhancements in
Window-Eyes 9.3:

Extract Text from Files, Images and the Screen Quickly and Easily

*Recognize text in inaccessible scanned PDF files.

*Recognize text from images in .bmp, .jpg, .png, and .tiff formats.

*Choose from several different kinds of file types to
recognize, including .txt, .html, .xml, and .zip.

*If Office is installed, you can also OCR documents ending
in .docx, .pptx, and .xlsx.

*Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files can be recognized,
including text found in WordArt to ensure readability.

All-New Read to End

*Read-to-end has been completely rewritten to provide the
most responsive and accurate reading experience.

*When read-to-end is stopped, it will start again from the
word that was last spoken to help save time and increase efficiency.

*If a Braille display is connected, Braille output will
remain in sync with speech as documents are read aloud.

*Hot keys used to increase or decrease speech are much more
responsive, enabling users to more easily read documents in the
manner they prefer.

Microsoft Office

*Improved reading of all spell check dialogs in Office 2010,
2013, and 2016.

*Responsiveness of the Outlook 2010, 2013, and 2016 inbox
under Windows 10 has been improved to make reading email faster.

*Outlook's conversation view in 2010, 2013, and 2016 is now
supported so that users can group messages with the same subject
enabling reading of all messages within a thread quickly and easily.

*If Window-Eyes was restarted while Outlook was open,
message virtualization would stop functioning until Outlook was
restarted. This issue has been fixed.

*When a PowerPoint slideshow started, and Window-Eyes was
set to automatically read the entire document, only the content of
the first slide would be spoken. This has been fixed.

*If the version of Window-Eyes for users of Microsoft Office
was in use, and the Office 365 sign-in window was closed without
first entering any text, Window-Eyes would crash. This has been resolved.

*Other miscellaneous fixes.
Mouse Improvements

*The physical mouse now reads UIA and IA2 programs, which
improves the reading experience in programs such as web browsers and
modern Windows apps.

*A hot key to continue a mouse search in reverse has been added.

*Window-Eyes can now read an entire line or only a word
under the pointer as the physical mouse moves across the screen.

*The mouse can now be set to read instant, hover, or no echo
when moving the mouse around the screen. If the user sets it to
hover, the amount of time can be adjusted before the information
under the mouse is spoken. This allows low vision users better
control over what they hear when the mouse moves around the screen.

*Other miscellaneous fixes.
Other Fixes

*Responsiveness in the Windows 10 File Explorer has been improved.

*Quickly check the status of wireless network connections
with a single hot key.

*Responsiveness for Eloquence, eSpeak, RealSpeak, Vocalizer,
and Vocalizer Expressive synthesizers has been significantly improved.

*The WE cursor (which allows you to explore the screen
without moving the mouse pointer) has been renamed to the invisible
cursor to better reflect its functionality.

*The QuickStart Wizard has been replaced with a new app
called Setup Wizard providing a new visual interface and more
options to help users get started using Window-Eyes.

*The app update notification options that are displayed when
updates are available have been expanded to include a tone, dialog

Event Status Manager

2015-11-06 Thread Linda Mentink via Talk

Hi all,

Well, I didn't find exactly what any of you said, but I went into
Administrative Tools and unchecked three cyberlink things, two of
which the screen said, and I unchecked Event Viewer. When I restarted
my computer, it said none of all that, so I think I fixed it. Yay!
Thanks for all your help.

Blessings,

Linda

Re: Event Status Manager

2015-11-06 Thread Linda Mentink via Talk

Hi Tom,

I'm using Windows 7. All Event Status Manager said was OK Close. Two
of the things I unchecked were things on the screen with no
explanation. I know what I did, so I can undo it if something isn't
working correctly.--Linda

you did if you have any problems.

Insert-S is a Window-Eyes hot key to display the system tray in an
accessible manner. What's in there is typically things that run at
start up. That's where Window-Eyes will be by default so it won't be
in the Alt-Tab order when moving between windows.

I had done a very quick search on Google and saw an event manager
program for Epson printers/scanners but didn't even look to see if
it was needed or not. Often these things aren't. And you can uncheck
them under the start up tab in MSConfig or in Task Manager in Windows 10.

But my real point is that randomly disabling things can lead to
serious problems. And Uncle Google can be very helpful with these things.

Good luck,
Tom

My win-eyes usually speaks every keystroke; and that is how I
like it. A friend helped me to get this feature back. I'm using

win-eyes and getting that setting back. But I cannot seem to get
it back by myself.
Why it turns off is a mystery. I'm on a win7 computer; have been

dropping the speech for the keystrokes.

Help appreciated.

I am really getting tired of this!
I have been a window eyes user for many years But will have to say
that lately It has more problems then JAWS.
Rather then fixing problems with window eyes it seems like each update
 brings new problems.
While it was more economical to buy an SMA then pay for this upgrade
I don't think it was worth the money.
While all screen readers have issues it is pathetic that a free screen
reader has by far less issues then one a person pays to update.
At this rate If someone asked for a Recmmendation for a paid screen
reader I would have to say JAWS.
Hopefully Aisquared will fix this issue or will myself Go back to
jaws as my primary screen reader Seconded by NVDA.

Well, so far, I have had to re-boot twice, and re start WE once.

I too have noticed that if I go too fast, I am likely to over drive WE
into losing Speech. Twice I have needed to re boot, and once I was able
to re start WE.

I am running 9.1.

I am a faster than average typist. Is it possible to be typing too fast
for WE to keep up?

Even tapping the Down Arrow quickly will cause WE to stop speaking.

Today, I had stepped away from the computer for about 30 minutes. I
came back and pressed the down arrow once, and I heard part of a single
Word, and the Speech was gone.Had to re boot.

I use my system all day, and I probably have my system fail 3 to 5 times
a day. More if I am on the internet.

I have found I need to re boot after about five or six hours of computer
usage.

Not fun.
