This sounds like a job for adobe reader. The acrobat product is aimed for PDF document design, creation in modification. And excess ability community, it is mostly used to create tags that make non-accessible documents accessible. Window-Eyes 9.2 Issues
I've read a couple of messages on here about people who have performance issues with WE 9.2. I would like to officially add myself to that list. My system slowed down pretty noticeably after I upgraded to 9.2, and specific applications started behaving funny. 7-Zip and TextPad were the two really bad ones. Also, bringing up the System menu in many applications resulted in a brief lock up sometimes. There were also lots of cases of just over all sluggishness in the system. No pattern as to when things would be bad or not. In the end, the over all slowdown and unpredictability of when the system would behave and when it wouldn't got so annoying I went back to 9.1. If you don't own an SMA there is a $49 charge to upgrade to 9.2. $49 charge. - Original Message - From: "Michael Massey via Talk" To: "'Window-Eyes Discussion List'" Sent: Saturday, August 15, 2015 12:52 PM Subject: Upgrading to Window-eyes 9.2 Hi, Bob. Sorry, but I forgot the subject of your post regarding upgrading to Window-eyes 9.2 from Window-eyes 9.0. The readme clearly states that you cannot install Window-eyes 9.2 over a version less than 8.x without contacting Ai Squared. Because you mentioned that you have Window-eyes 9.0, you can download Window-eyes 9.2 from the website. Go to the help menu by opening the Window-eyes control panel with control backslash. Press alt-h. Use either the up or down arrow keys to navigate to check for updates. Press enter. A page will come up with various options. Tab to the button that says visit the website. After that page loads find the download upgrade button and press enter on it. Follow the instructions and you'll be good to go. After Window-eyes 9.2 is installed then Windows 10 will install. I don't want to upset any of the list members but, it pays to read the documentation, particularly in cases of upgrading Window-eyes. I checked the readme again so I would provide correct information. You won't have to buy a cd unless you choose to do so. I buy a cd each time an upgrade is released for my own peace of mind, smile. A cd costs $20. Mike M P.S. If you purchased a fotware maintenance agreement (s m a), the upgrade won't count against your s m a. Since you're upgrading from version 9.0, you might have to pay $49, but don't quote me on that one, please? I upgraded from version 9.1, and the upgrade was free because I purchased a s m a. If I hadn't, I would have had to buy the 9.1 upgrade for $49 If I provided any incorrect information or if someone can add anything to what I have posted, please feel free, grin. . ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. Upgrading to Window-eyes 9.2
Hi, Bob. RE: Window-Eyes 9.2 still crashing With Windows Explorer
Thanks to Chris at WinEyes my WE 9.2 and IE11 no longer crash while using the browser. Same thing for problems with Firefox. Chris had me: 1. remove outdated apps such as one forcibly closing WE and a Homer (or something like this) which that app closing WE required. 2. Updating all set files via the WE control panelGreat advice! ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. The times I dealt with them, they were able to help me with a problem I had with mail groups that used yahoomail. They worked on it a couple of days, and it seems that the guy even worked on it after I got off the phone, because suddenly, it was fixed. The information I'm about to pass along to the list members are not complaints. They are observations. I reserved my copies of Windows 10 to install on my Dell Xps-8500 desktop computer running Windows 8.1, and for my Dell Xps-501-L laptop running Windows 7 home 64 bit. On Sunday morning I heard Window-eyes 9.2 begin to speak as if something was being installed on my desktop computer, but didn't pay close attention, and I didn't think much of it. Yesterday I happened to check Windows updates and found at least a dozen download failed updates of Windows 10 home upgrade. With the help of the Microsoft accessibility answer desk I was able to download and install Windows 10. I am now hearing what sounds like the Window-eyes startup sound twice. The sound is also very distorted, so I have to turn the sound bars volume down a bit. Later yesterday I had to have the Microsoft Accessibility answer desk representative help me get Windows 10 downloaded so I could install it for a similar issue. There were only two failed updates and I didn't hear Window-eyes speak when the updates were being downloaded. The Window-eyes sound is also distorted. I tried to redownload and run the Window-eyes 9.2 upgrade and install it, but the progress reached 80 percent and generated a Windows error I believe. I now cannot find my downloads folder after upgrading the Windows 7 computer to Windows 10. I tried searching for downloads and nothing would come up. How do I find my downloads folder Thanks. ? If you're running Windows 8.1, no. If you're running Windows 7 you have to be running Window-Eyes 9.2 and then run the 9.2 upgrade again after Window-Eyes is installed. RE: downloading window-eyes 9.2
Hello, Yes, Window-Eyes 9.2 works on Windows Vista. If you are having difficulty downloading the upgrade, you can try visiting the upgrade page at www.gwmicro.com/upgrade, entering your serial number in the edit box provided, and downloading the update. If that doesn't work, please give us a call and we can get the file to you another way. Window-Eyes 9.2 will not run on Windows XP. RE: downloading window-eyes 9.2
Hi Hui Thian I do not know how the GW team have set the web site up. It is quite possible for the site not to allow a download to a PC running XP. Why not download it to a PC running a more modern operating system? Although GW do not support WE 9.2 on XP, you might then be able to move it to that PC, having taken suitable back-ups first, and see if it will run on it. Bear in mind that if it fails you will need to use a different screen reader solution to recover your speech output. Note that this is not an approach I would advocate at all. Is this only with windows ten? Because I have windows 7 and mine just happens once, even though there is no password. There is the startup sound, and then the sound that's supposed to happen after you put your password in, except you just hear the startup sound and then the other sound. ? Hi Lynn, I thought I had send those instructions to the list, but I can't find a copy, so here they are: * Open a Windows explorer window. * tab to the "organize" button. * press spacebar, which should bring up a context menu. * arrow down to the "layout" submenu and open it up with the right arrow. * arrow down until you find the "preview pane" and make sure it is not checked; if it is checked, press on it to remove the checkmark; otherwise press escape. Hi Sky, No, I am not seeing this with Word 2010. The only thing I can think of is to suggest that you be sure the document window is maximized. I use the Window Manager app, and set Word windows to always get maximized when they're opened. Also, is it possible the document you are working with has some blank lines in it? Re: upgrading to window-eyes 9.2
Marc, I didn't see the option to purchase an SMA online the other day but noticed in one of your previous emails that a request could be sent to sales. I sent an email request and got an automatic reply that my request had been received and was being reviewed. What does that mean? Will I eventually get something more from them or would it be better to just call? Chip, where do I find where to disable preview mode? Like several others I find my crashes have no pattern to be specific about anything. It seems to do it the worst with IE , but it can also do it right in the middle of reading an email. I'll keep watching the list and also will post anything I discover about it all. RE: Window-Eyes 9.2
Hi Tom, I am pretty sure the mouse pointer was sitting on top of text which the "read tooltip" feature of WE was causing it to read again and again. When this happens to me I just move the mouse pointer down to some empty corner of the window and it stops. I did try turning off the tooltip feature (thinking I didn't really need it), but you do; many programs use it to notify you of an update or something you need to do, so moving the mouse pointer once in a while is better. Re: I have a couple of questions regarding installing Window-Eyes 9.2.
Kevin, to avoid a fight, during the install, pick the custom install which will give you a chance to choose WE not starting at startup. earlier, Kevin Minor via Talk, wrote: Hi. I discovered a bug in Window-Eyes 9.x, where if you're in Windows Explorer in Windows 8.1, and you move the mouse to the bottom of the screen, you can hit the down arrow key on the numpad and go lower than this point. If the mouse is in this location, and you try to copy or cut a file in the list, Window-Eyes would stop speaking, and I'd have to restart it. I've decided to install 9.2 on this PC anyway and work around the bug. I'm using another screen reader, and I'm willing to switch between it and Window-Eyes for my work. I do have a couple of questions regarding installing Window-Eyes on this PC. First, I have a basic question. How do I view the status line of the Windows Explorer? I think CTRL+INSERT+S will do this, but I'm not sure. I like to check the number of files in a window, so this is important to me. I'd rather use my current screen reader to start Windows, then I can exit it and start Window-Eyes. Whhen I install Window-Eyes, will there be a fight between it and my screen reader, or is the installer smart enough to not have Window-Eyes automaticly start? That's all I can think of for now. I'm eagerly waiting for Windows 10 to come out tomorrow, and I plan on installing it. Have a great day, and don't work too hard. RE: I've just installed Window-Eyes 9.2 on my Windows 8.1 64 bit Lenovo laptop, and I'm running into an interesting situation.
Hi, You might try Xplorer2. It is a much more powerful file manager than Windows Explorer and you can read the status line with the mouse pointer. You can have 2 folders open at the same time as well as hot keys for anything you'd need to do. For example, shift-control and a letter will move you to that drive letter, IE shift-control-z will move you to drive z. Just reclass the file list to a list view and your all set. http://zabkat.com/ -Original Message- From: Talk [mailto:talk-bounces+cgrabowski=aisquared@lists.window-eyes.com] On Behalf Of Kevin Minor via Talk Sent: Wednesday, July 29, 2015 12:29 AM To: 'Window-Eyes Discussion List' Subject: I've just installed Window-Eyes 9.2 on my Windows 8.1 64 bit Lenovo laptop, and I'm running into an interesting situation. you don't need to use the mouse at all for this. listen to what w e is saying. you can be anywhere in the list of files and w e will tell you how many files in the list. like 1 of 100. 10 of 100 etc. use control home or control end keys to go directly to the top or bottom of the list. you can use first letter navigation if you know the first letter of a file you are looking for too. -Original Message- From: Kevin Minor via Talk Sent: Tuesday, July 28, 2015 9:28 PM To: 'Window-Eyes Discussion List' Subject: I've just installed Window-Eyes 9.2 on my Windows 8.1 64 bit Lenovolaptop, and I'm running into an interesting situation. ok, so it's not just me! Thank you! I don't suppose that actually helps, but yes, this is definitely happening to me too. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, if that helps. The frustrating part is it seems to happen for no rhyme or reason. I can't find a pattern for it so I can reliably tell people when the problem happens. It seems very random, which makes the problem that much harder to fix. If I do find a pattern for when it happens i'll gladly post a more definiative bug report with examples of when it happens, etc. On 7/28/2015 11:53 PM, Lynn White via Talk wrote: I have actually had two crashes in the last two days whenever windows explorer freezes and have had to reboot. I have a couple of questions egarding installing Window-Eyes 9.2.
Hi. Fw: Window-Eyes 9.2
I also get this message now when I am reading a message I received. I hear "Folder Tree List Pane" and the subject of the message. I copied my old default directory over the new one, but it still keeps happening. In fact, when I stop typing, the chatter goes continuously. -Original Message- From: Tom Fairhurst via Talk Sent: Tuesday, July 28, 2015 3:16 PM To: talk viaGW Subject: Window-Eyes 9.2 Hi. I downloaded this yesterday, but it just started doing this today. As I am writing this message, I am hearing the “folder tree list pane” and the subject of my message. I can’t stop the repetition. It’s driving me crazy. How can I stop this? ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared.
