Itunes Help

2017-08-20 Thread L Urie via Talk

Hi,

Using Windows 10 anniversary edition with the latest version of
window-eyes and Itunes 12.6.2.  Is it just me, or are things becoming
less and less accessible?  I use to be able to create play lists.  I no
longer can do that. Nor can I see the list of albums.  Is there a way of
getting an older version that works better or does anyone have any tips
that would help with accessibility.

Thanks

Lee

Hello. has anyone including the AI Squared staff really looked at the
latest version of iTunes lately? I did try the latest version and it
freezes up window eyes. I don't know why. I think in the program files
there are a lot more stuff including stuff about java so someone should
really look at this. I know the app has not been updated in a while. For
now am on an old version 12.5.5. The next version up 12.6.100 could use
fixing or at least if someone could take a look at it on their machine.
I am on a windows7 machine. I don't get it why in version 12.5.5 it
works great with no problems but in 12.6.100 it freezes and locks up my
computer. I even emailed Apple accessibility to let them know what I am
experiencing and we are talking back and forth, but so far nothing that
will resolve anything. I hope the next update will fix those issues.

Re: itunes really needs fixing to work with window eyes.

2017-04-03 Thread Brenda via Talk

I have so far been able to avoid upgrading to iTunes 12.6.

Fortunately I only use iTunes to back up my phone, usually only when I'm
going to trade it in. I haven't ripped any CDsto my pc and then to
iTunes lately. I think apple wants us to use apple music which seems to
require less use of iTunes. I'm not going to pay 49.99 a month for that.

Hopefully I can get sighted assistance if I have issues.

I'm really, really glad someone on this list posted that there were
serious nongood issues with iTunes 12.6.

I refuse to use I-Tunes. But I do need to purchase some Music.

I had bought single tunes from Amazon a million years ago, and I could
listen to a part of each song before I purchased it. Now, I do not see
any way to listen to a piece of the Song. On Amazon, is there a way to
listen like we could a few years ago?

It seems to be regressing.

Could solve a problem using NVDA with the previous version of Itunes. Could
not do so with 12.6 using on different occasions all three of the main screen
readers.

I'm probably going to reconfigure my Itunes just for use on the Mac -
deauthorise all the Windows stuff.

Vaughan.

try useing nvda.
w e is going down the tubes.
i am finding more and more web pages and programs that w e doesn't really work

controls that only say button but not what they are.
itunes is one of these programs.
at least with windows 7.
i don't know why apple will not let you delete the useless apps you will never

any way
there is an option to hide the apps you don't want to show. but w e does not
tell you what the buttons are. nvda does.
the safeway shopping site with firefox doesn't work any more with the list of

2017-03-24 Thread Charles Adkins via Talk
I think iTunes is the biggest mouse on my computer and probably won't update.
I'm using windows 10 and the latest version of wonder wise. I don't think
iTunes and a PC was a marriage that was meant to be. I hear a lot of people
with vision complain about iTunes also. If Apple ever had any intention of
letting iTunes work well on a Windows PC, I have yet to see any evidence of it.
i've been so frustrated with iTunes that I'm looking at android more and more,
but it just doesn't seem as accessible.

Subject: iTunes accessibility

Hello everyone,

Apple has asked me to post the list of accessibility fixes they put into
iTunes version 12.5.4. The current version of iTunes is 12.5.5. Each
release they typically fix a few accessibility issues. The list of fixes to
the 12.5.4 release are:

iTunes 12.5.1 for Windows Fault with column browser
can't interact with each speakers when selected
no longer reads out the name of Airplay speakers
not reading selections from syncing panes
skips Lyrics text area in Up Next and Get Info
Unable to add multiple airplay speakers
Unable to install apps from iTunes > iOS device with iTunes 12.5.1 for
Windows

Video listed as static box when played in iTunes Window
Get Info hangs when
does not read out star rating control
does not read volume slider (or any slider) changes
Unable to navigate to check/plus button in Airplay popup
calls out the "+" as "button" instead of "Add to Library button" after
selecting CMA

calls out "Season" section in TV Shows as "Unknown"
found two hidden items in the LCD labeled as "unknown"
should announce "Pause 'album title' button" when selected album is playing
skips over Artist / Album info in LargeArtwork MP
does not read out the label of the movie ratings (G, PG-13, etc) or the
movie quality (HD)

I realize this list is cryptic but this does show they are working at it.
If you have Window-Eyes or JAWS issues with iTunes, Apple has asked that you
write up a very detailed description of the problem and email it to:

mailto:accessibil...@apple.com

The more specific you are to your issues the more likely they will be
resolved.

Regards,
Doug

I'm having problems modifying a subscription for a streaming service

The subscription seems to be accessed by way of a heading level two, but
I can't manipulate it. Beneath the heading are the details such as
renewal date, and then there is an edit box.

Using the latest Window-Eyes and ITunes, and I would be expecting to
find a form which allows me to change the subscription.

Suggestions appreciated.

RE: itunes need help in adding an app on ipod touch 6

2016-10-21 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Sue,

I have one of those gadgets, but my question is this: why don't you simply
search for the app on your iPod Touch using the App Store?
This is much easier than trying to do it from within iTunes.

Hth,

Rod

Hi Charles,

Yes, Apple really has made a mess of iTunes recently and none of the recent
updates have addressed the accessibility issues introduced after version
12.1.
Recently, I had uninstalled the newest version of iTunes, 12.4, I believe,
and installed 12.1 which I found on an Apple downloads page.
12.1 was very usable, but I decided to update again to the newest version
just to be current, and hoping for the best as updates came out, but I
continue to be disappointed by Apple.
Anyway, I still have the 12.1 installer and may use it again within a
virtual machine, but, for now, I am okay struggling with the newest version.
Now, as to your complaint about not being able to view any more than one
track in an album, I can confirm this in my own experience.
One thing which helped me to see all of the tracks in my library, sorted by
album, is to choose the Album option in the Sort By drop-down on the View
menu.
By choosing this option, what you get is a huge list of all the tracks in
your media library sorted by album such that each track in the album is
there flowing from the previous album into the next album, and this list is,
at least, alphabetical.

I hope this helps,

Rod

installing the latest Itunes, I have noticed that we will only read the

As memory serves, I do believe it comes down to working with individual
controls, one at a time, and, each time you edit one of them, you have to
ensure that it has been closed before you move on to the next one.
I found the same problem editing my profile in the Facebook IOS app. It is as
though each control is a dialog box unto itself.
I hope this helps a little, anyway. Smile

Good luck,

Hoping for a suggestion regarding successfully updating iTunes accounts please?

Specifically: Neither Window-Eyes or NVDA report the checked status of the
payment method button. It does seem that browse mode off might allow the che

When I activate the "done" button, it comes back with a request to correct the

We know that iTunes has some accessibility problems (which should not be

Window-Eyes users who have successfully fixed the update account nformation

Thanks.

Hi Brian,

Time is very short for me these days, but I just wanted to say that, as an
optimist with quite a bit of experience using iTunes over the last months, I do
believe you can get the program to do what you want.
It's hard to help you via email as it is kind of limited in terms of give and
take.
If you search for my email address, rod_hut...@hotmail.com, in the Skype
directory perhaps we could connect that way and have a better chance of solving
it.
Alternatively, I have a Canada/U.S. long distance plan, I live in
Canada, and perhaps I can talk briefly with you via phone.
Please see what you think.

All the best,

Hi,

I suggest choosing Artists from the selector, and then you can tab to the
list of artists and then choose the one you want.
After that you can tab to the list holding all the albums by that artist.
Then you can highlight the tracks in that album and proceed from there.

Hth,

Rod

Hi,

For those who have enjoyed using my app, Itunes Enhance, I noticed that, after
I upgraded to Window-Eyes 9.5.1, the app was not in the list of running
program-specific apps for Itunes in the App Manager.
To remedy this, simply reinstall Itunes Enhance, and here is the URL to the app

Hi John,

Actually, this is a very appropriate topic, as it involves the accessibility
of a commonly-used program.
I just tried this myself, and believe me, I appreciate your frustration with
these newest versions of iTunes.
At first, I couldn't see my playlists either, but then I tabbed around a
bit, came back to the list of playlist, arrowed down a bunch of times, and,
lo and behold, the playlists I created appeared mixed in with those you
mentioned.
That's the secret to this new version of iTunes: tab around and arrow a
whole lot and things eventually appear.

Good luck,

Rod

I agree about trial and error, but I've stopped regretting the upgrade now
that I've been using it for a while. They added something I have been
begging for for nearly a decade, an item in the context menu when one is
focused on a song or book or whatever that is labelled add to device and
then has a drop down menu that allows one to select a device. It has made
adding media to my devices so much easier. They also have this for playlists
and since I have discovered how to make a video playlist with my movie
and/or TV library so that I can run movie and TV marathons, I have become a
big fan of at least that part of iTunes 12. I do, however, wish that they
would clean up the appearance and thus the way things are read. It can be
frustrating tabbing around in circles until one comes to where one wants to
be.

RE: iTunes 12.4.1 problem

2016-07-12 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi Sky,

I regret upgrading to version 12, from 11, but I have found that, through
exploring the menu bar, and, by tabbing around enough times, I've learned
how to get things displayed as I wish.
It is literally trial and error, my friend. Smile

Good luck,

Rod

Hi Guys. I have downloaded the new iTunes 12.4.1 program, and once
everything was up and running, I wanted to search for an artist in my music
library. However, after pressing enter in the search box after typing in the
music, The applue music comes up, rather than your regular library, even
though everything is set to my music option and not the new option which
refers to apple music. Any clues on how to fix this using itunes with
Window-Eyes? Thanks, Sky.

artist info in itunes with window eyes

2016-06-09 Thread crw9599 via Talk
Hello. I was wondering since I do have the latest version of iTunes
installed when I am playing a radio station and I want to find out the
artist of a particular song when tabbing around it is after the progress
bar I tab over to find out the info, before this version window eyes
would read that part of the screen and in this latest version it is not
doing that. Why is that? I uninstalled and reinstalled the iTunes app
that works with window eyes hoping it would fix it, no luck, and even
when I hide and unhide the side bar it did not do anything, so how can
window eyes read the artist name and the song like it did before in
iTunes? I did load up NVDA that works great in that part of the screen.
I even tried to update all factory settings to make sure everything was
up to date no files were converted. So how can we fix this? Oh and just
to let everyone know the menu bar does speak again like it did before so
thanks to Apple they got that part right. I did email them before this
latest version came out and after the update that part was fixed.

iTunes SideBar, Anyone?

2016-05-20 Thread Russ Kiehne via Talk
I saw the following on another list and thought I would pass it along.

ello Everyone,

I am posting this to both the V iPhone and Mac Visionaries Mailing List.

I am so surprised that no one has mentioned the return of the iTunes SideBar
in iTunes 12.4. (smile)

If you didn't know it, it's back and looks almost like it did in iTunes 11
and earlier.

Yep, it's true. From the View menu, select Show SideBar.

Enjoy,

Mark

Hello. I download the latest version of iTunes 12.4 which came out on
Monday, have noticed the changes in the menu bar you can get to it by
hitting the alt key on the keyboard but window eyes does not tell you what
part of the menu bar you are on. Instead you have to hit the alt key on the
keyboard then depending where you are at you have to use the either the left
or right or the up or down arrow keys on the keyboard and once you start
doing that window eyes does say context menu it does open up in to the menu
then once that happens then using the left or right arrow keys you are in
the menus you just have to know where you are at to figure out what part of
the menu bar you are at since the main part of the menu bar does not speak
anymore. I wonder if the iTunes app has to be updated or something. Other
then that I can still use it it is just a little bit tricky but it is
due-able.

Hi Steve,

I thought you may like to know that some Apple accessibility advisers are
advising people experiencing problems with 12.4 to switch to WE.

While it might be a nice plug, the accessibility of some of the list boxes is
no better with WE, so new users may be turned off if they blame AI.

You might want a word with Apple so they don't set you up for a fall
inadvertently.

Cheers,

Hello. I download the latest version of iTunes 12.4 which came out on
Monday, have noticed the changes in the menu bar you can get to it by
hitting the alt key on the keyboard but window eyes does not tell you
what part of the menu bar you are on. Instead you have to hit the alt
key on the keyboard then depending where you are at you have to use the
either the left or right or the up or down arrow keys on the keyboard
and once you start doing that window eyes does say context menu it does
open up in to the menu then once that happens then using the left or
right arrow keys you are in the menus you just have to know where you
are at to figure out what part of the menu bar you are at since the main
part of the menu bar does not speak anymore. I wonder if the iTunes app
has to be updated or something. Other then that I can still use it it is
just a little bit tricky but it is due-able.

Subject: Itunes Enhance 1.1 App update

Hi everyone,

For those who have enjoyed the functionality offered by the Itunes Enhance
app, I wanted to share that my newest version offers improvements which I
think you'll enjoy.

Here's an excerpt from the documentation, which summarizes these changes:

Improvements in Itunes Enhance 1.1

In version 1.1 of Itunes Enhance, the functionality of the
previously-defined hotkeys has been modified; now, depending on the state
of the current track, each hotkey speaks the elapsed time, while the
PlayPause hotkey will speak detailed track information; Further, the
rewind and fast forward hotkeys have been modified to act as independent
toggles which can pause and resume playback, allowing for more efficient
seeking.

As well, a hotkey has been added which opens a dialog similar to that
provided in the Winamp media player for entering the time to jump to
within the current track; as in Winamp, it is set to Control-J, by
default, and, of course, it can be changed.

All the best,

Re: Itunes File Sharing

Thanks for this. After reading it, I must say Apple took a step backwards
with itunes accessibility. Using file sharing in itunes 11 is so much
easier.

Subject: Itunes File Sharing

Hi everyone,

Here are the steps for using File Sharing in Itunes.
I've performed this myself using Window-Eyes 9.3.1 and the current version
of NVDA.
Feel free to share your experience with me at
rod_hut...@hotmail.com<mailto:rod_hut...@hotmail.com>.

Thanks,

Rod

Performing File Sharing in Itunes:
Press the button for your IPhone or other IDevice.
Press Tab repeatedly until you hear "tree view."
Press the down and up arrow keys slowly until you ensure that "Apps" is
selected.

Then, tab many times until you hear "File Sharing static box."
Pressing tab once should speak another static box informing you that the
apps listed below can transfer documents between your IDevice and your
computer.

Pressing tab once again should allow you to hear "Apps static box."
Another press of the tab key will speak another static box prefixed by the
name of the app which is selected in the control following it, and this
control is a list box holding all apps which support file sharing, in
alphabetical order.
On my IPhone, for example, I have Adobe Acrobat installed, and so the static
box mentioned above reads: "Adobe Acrobat documents," and the control
following this static box is a list box.
Now, whether you use Window-Eyes or NVDA, one you tab to this list box, all
you will hear is "Apps list box."
In this list box, you can press up and down arrow keys, and, although there
is no speech feedback, you are, in fact, changing the selected item.
Tabbing forward past this list box will move focus through a number of
static boxes corresponding to the apps actually contained in the previous
list box.
(Note that if you tab forward repeatedly, and don't notice any app names,
and if you reach the Sync button, try Shift-tabbing back toward the File
Sharing static box, and then tab forward again, since this seems to redraw
the screen and the app static boxes should appear.)
You know you've reach the last app in the list when, tabbing forward, you
hear the name of an app, followed by the word "documents," followed by "list
box."
This second list box holds the list of files on your IDevice associated with
the selected app, and, in contrast to the previous list box, it does provide
speech feedback.
Selecting the app you wish is accomplished by tabbing through the static
boxes, making note of where your chosen app appears in the list of static
boxes, and, as we have seen, its name should fall somewhere between the two
list box controls.
The trick to selecting the correct app is to keep track of its number, that
is, first, second, third, last, second last, third last, etc.
Once you have this number in your mind, then, you don't have to Shift-Tab
all the way back to the first list box, but, as long as your focus is on any
static box between the two list boxes, just press the up and down arrow keys
to change the selection pointer.
For example, on my IDevice, KNFBReader is the fifth app in my list of static
boxes.
Therefore, the way to select it is to press up arrow a bunch of times to
ensure that the selection pointer is at the top of the list box, that is,
selecting the first item, and then press down arrow four times.
If I then tab forward to the second list box, I will hear "KNFBReader
documents list box," and I can move through the list of files associated
with KNFBReader using up and down arrow keys.
Once a file or folder is selected, you can tab repeatedly until you come to
the Save To button.
Pressing this button opens a dialog where you can select a folder on your
computer in which to save the selected file or folder.
Incidentally, I have noticed that while I can select a contiguous group of
files for saving using Shift in conjunction with the up or down arrow keys,
I have not, as yet, found a way to select more than one file out of linear
sequence.
Further, you can use the Delete key to remove the selected item(s) from your
IDevice.
Finally, you can tab to the Add button and activate it in order to open a
dialog box where you can browse to the files and folders on your computer
which you want to transfer to your IDevice.
One issue I have found is that, sometimes, after a file transfer has taken
place, focus in the file list on the IDevice can be lost.
However, this can be remdied by Shift-tabbing out of the file list back to
the list of apps, re-selecting the app you're working with, and then tabbing
back into the file list.

I sincerely hope these instructions work for everyone who tries them.
If not, please write to me at

The trick to selecting the correct app is to keep track of its number, that is,
first, second, third, last, second last, third last, etc.
Once you have this number in your mind, then, you don't have to Shift-Tab all
the way back to the first list box, but, as long as your focus is on any static
box between the two list boxes, just press the up and down arrow keys to change
the selection pointer.
For example, on my IDevice, KNFBReader is the fifth app in my list of static
boxes.
Therefore, the way to select it is to press up arrow a bunch of times to ensure
that the selection pointer is at the top of the list box, that is, selecting
the first item, and then press down arrow four times.
If I then tab forward to the second list box, I will hear "KNFBReader documents
list box," and I can move through the list of files associated with KNFBReader
using up and down arrow keys.
Once a file or folder is selected, you can tab repeatedly until you come to the
Save To button.
Pressing this button opens a dialog where you can select a folder on your
computer in which to save the selected file or folder.
Incidentally, I have noticed that while I can select a contiguous group of
files for saving using Shift in conjunction with the up or down arrow keys, I
have not, as yet, found a way to select more than one file out of linear
sequence.
Further, you can use the Delete key to remove the selected item(s) from your
IDevice.
Finally, you can tab to the Add button and activate it in order to open a
dialog box where you can browse to the files and folders on your computer which
you want to transfer to your IDevice.
One issue I have found is that, sometimes, after a file transfer has taken
place, focus in the file list on the IDevice can be lost.
However, this can be remdied by Shift-tabbing out of the file list back to the
list of apps, re-selecting the app you're working with, and then tabbing back
into the file list.
I sincerely hope these instructions work for everyone who tries them.
If not, please write to me at
rod_hut...@hotmail.com<mailto:rod_hut...@hotmail.com>.

Re: Itunes Enhance 1.0.1 update

2016-01-05 Thread Chris T via Talk

Thanks for this app. iTunes has really needed some improvement via apps.

I am wondering if it might be possible, to add the ability to switch between
grid and list views for all of the media types to your app? I have a small
number of improvements that wouldn't really do that much, but would
seriously improve accessibility of iTunes and this is at the top of the
list. A context menu item that would allow one to select a song, book, TV
episode or whatever to the list to be added or removed from the current
device at the next sync would also be great, but I don't think that could be
done with just an app. The more I have used the current iTunes, the more I
feel that it is an improvement over past versions. If Apple would just go a
bit further in a few areas, I think accessibility and functionality would
increase greatly. JMO.

Thanks again for the app.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to let you know I just updated Itunes Enhance, so that,
when you press any of the hotkeys, the state of playback, or whether you're
rewinding or fast forwarding, is spoken.
I didn't think of doing this before, since Itunes is pretty silent, even
with the rbosity provided by the Itunes set file.
However, in light of the added functionality provided by my app, it seemed
important from an accessibility point of view to be informed on the state of
Itunes.

Enjoy,

Subject: New app - Itunes Enhance!

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to let you know that I’ve submitted a new app which
enhances the accessibility and functionality of Itunes.
I have included the documentation for the app below for your convenience.
The app, called Itunes Enhance, is found in the Program Enhancements
category, next to the Itunes app, created by AI Squared.
The App Central URL is:

https://www.gwmicro.com/App_Central/Apps/App_Details/?scriptid=1432

In summary, the app defines three program-specific hotkeys for toggling
playback, as well as rewind and fast ford.

I hope you enjoy the added functionality provided by this app, and, for the
perennially curious, please read on for the details.

All the best,

Rod Hutton

Welcom to Itunes Enhance!

This app enhances the accessibility and functionality of Itunes, Apple’s
popular media player.

Features of the initial release of Itunes Enhance

This app was initially created to correct two problems for screen-reader
users of Itunes:

First, you will notice that the first option in the Controls menu is Play,
and the hotkey assigned to it is Space. However, you may have noticed that
pressing the spacebar does not, in fact, always toggle playback, and this
depends on the control which has focus in Itunes. It certainly works when
focus is on a tree view or list view, but not when on the many static boxes,
and certainly not when focus is on buttons which serve other purposes, such
as the sorting of content. Clearly, there is need for a hotkey which the
user can count on to toggle the playback of the current item.

Second, you will also notice that the Controls menu contains no option for
rewinding and fast forwarding the currently playing track; indeed, a search
for Itunes hotkeys on the web will lead to many independent web pages which
include hotkeys for these two functions in their lists, and, typically,
Control-Alt-Left arrow and Control-Alt-Right arrow, for rewind and fast
forward, respectively. Further evidence that these hotkeys once worked in
Itunes is that the set file supplied by AI Squared have these hotkeys
configured as program-specific and left undefined; normally, they are
configured as global, and are two of the four used to adjust speech
parameters. Certainly there is evidence that rewind and fast forward once
were part of the functionality of Itunes, and clearly there is a need for
access to these functions,if Itunes supports them, and, if so, for
easily-accessible hotkeys for them.

Controlling Itunes behind the scenes

The result of my search of the web has revealed that there is a way to
control Itunes other than through the normal user interface, namely, through
its programmable COM object. In the same way that app developers can create
apps to control Window-Eyes for specific purposes, and this is because it
also has a programmable COM object, the functions of Itunes can be
controlled in the same way. My examination of the Itunes COM object has
revealed that, among many functions, the playback of the current track can
be started, paused, rewound and fast forwarded. It was a simple matter for
me, then, to create an app which assigns these functions to Window-Eyes
hotkeys.

The app menu

In the initial release of the app, the Itunes Enhance option on the
Window-Eyes Apps menu has a single option, namely, Help, which opens the
typical Help dialog for the app. This contains the read-only edit box
containing the present documentation, as well as a button which opens the
Hotkey Manager dialog where you can review and reassign the app hotkeys.

The hotkeys and their functions

In the initial release of Itunes Enhance, three program-specific hotkeys are
assigned:

PlayPause. This hotkey (F12, by default) will start and pause playback of
the current track; it will also resume normal playback if the track is in
rewind or fast forward mode. If you wish to completely stop rather than
pause the current track, press the dedicated Itunes hotkey, which, as of
this writing, is Control-..

Rewind. When a track is playing, this hotkey (F10, by default) will start
rewind mode, where you can hear fragments of the track audio as it skips
backward; normal playback can be resumed by pressing the PlayPause hotkey;
also, normal playback will resume automatically when the beginning of the
track is reached.

FastForward. When a track is playing, this hotkey (F11, by default) will
start fast forward mode, where you can hear fragments of the track a

dialog where you can review and reassign the app hotkeys.

The hotkeys and their functions

In the initial release of Itunes Enhance, three program-specific hotkeys are
assigned:

PlayPause. This hotkey (F12, by default) will start and pause playback of the
current track; it will also resume normal playback if the track is in rewind or
fast forward mode. If you wish to completely stop rather than pause the
current track, press the dedicated Itunes hotkey, which, as of this writing, is
Control-..

Rewind. When a track is playing, this hotkey (F10, by default) will start
rewind mode, where you can hear fragments of the track audio as it skips
backward; normal playback can be resumed by pressing the PlayPause hotkey;
also, normal playback will resume automatically when the beginning of the track
is reached.

FastForward. When a track is playing, this hotkey (F11, by default) will start
fast forward mode, where you can hear fragments of the track audio as it skips
forward; normal playback can be resumed by pressing the PlayPause hotkey; if
the end of the track is reached, normal playback will resume with the next
track in the currrent list of tracks, or, if no tracks remain, playback will
stop.

The Future

It is possible to add features to Itunes Enhance in the future.
Feel free to write to me about your experiences with Itunes and this app.

New app - Itunes Enhance!

2016-01-04 Thread Rod Hutton via Talk
Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to let you know that I’ve submitted a new app which enhances
the accessibility and functionality of Itunes.
I have included the documentation for the app below for your convenience.
The app, called Itunes Enhance, is found in the Program Enhancements category,
next to the Itunes app, created by AI Squared.

This app was initially created to correct two problems for screen-reader users
of Itunes:

First, you will notice that the first option in the Controls menu is Play, and
the hotkey assigned to it is Space. However, you may have noticed that
pressing the spacebar does not, in fact, always toggle playback, and this
depends on the control which has focus in Itunes. It certainly works when
focus is on a tree view or list view, but not when on the many static boxes,
and certainly not when focus is on buttons which serve other purposes, such as
the sorting of content. Clearly, there is need for a hotkey which the user can
count on to toggle the playback of the current item.

Second, you will also notice that the Controls menu contains no option for
rewinding and fast forwarding the currently playing track; indeed, a search for
Itunes hotkeys on the web will lead to many independent web pages which include
hotkeys for these two functions in their lists, and, typically,
Control-Alt-Left arrow and Control-Alt-Right arrow, for rewind and fast
forward, respectively. Further evidence that these hotkeys once worked in
Itunes is that the set file supplied by AI Squared have these hotkeys
configured as program-specific and left undefined; normally, they are
configured as global, and are two of the four used to adjust speech parameters.
Certainly there is evidence that rewind and fast forward once were part of the
functionality of Itunes, and clearly there is a need for access to these
functions,if Itunes supports them, and, if so, for easily-accessible hotkeys
for them.

Controlling Itunes behind the scenes

The result of my search of the web has revealed that there is a way to control
Itunes other than through the normal user interface, namely, through its
programmable COM object. In the same way that app developers can create apps
to control Window-Eyes for specific purposes, and this is because it also has a
programmable COM object, the functions of Itunes can be controlled in the same
way. My examination of the Itunes COM object has revealed that, among many
functions, the playback of the current track can be started, paused, rewound
and fast forwarded. It was a simple matter for me, then, to create an app
which assigns these functions to Window-Eyes hotkeys.

The app menu

In the initial release of the app, the Itunes Enhance option on the Window-Eyes
Apps menu has a single option, namely, Help, which opens the typical Help
dialog for the app. This contains the read-only edit box containing the
present documentation, as well as a button which opens the Hotkey Manager
dialog where you can review and reassign the app hotkeys.

If you wish to completely stop rather than pause the
current track, press the dedicated Itunes hotkey, which, as of this writing, is
Control-..

Rewind. When a track is playing, this hotkey (F10, by default) will start
rewind mode, where you can hear fragments of the track audio as it skips
backward; normal playback can be resumed by pressing the PlayPause hotkey;
also, normal playback will resume automatically when the beginning of the track
is reached.

FastForward. When a track is playing, this hotkey (F11, by default) will start
fast forward mode, where you can hear fragments of the track audio as it skips
forward; normal playback can be resumed by pressing the PlayPause hotkey; if
the end of the track is reached, normal playback will resume with the next
track in the currrent list of tracks, or, if no tracks remain, playback will
stop.

Hi Dave,

As promised, I'm writing to provide some information which should help you
navigate the Music tab in Itunes, and I'm copying this to the Window-Eyes
talk list as well.

I hope this helps,

Rod

Here are some guidelines for navigating the Itunes Music tab, arrived at by
pressing Control-1.
Press Control-F which brings you to the search box at the top of the Itunes
window.
Press F6 to bring focus to your music collection.
If you then press Shift-tab, a button is focused, having one of the
following names:
Songs, Albums, Artists, Composers, or Genres
The button label indicates how your music collection is currently displayed.

The important thing to remember is that pressing Tab always allows you to
navigate among the controls in the Itunes window; in some circumstances, F6
can also allow you to jump quickly from one area to another, allowing you to
avoid pressing Tab repeatedly.
Also, as you navigate, it is important to listen both to the type of control
focused as well as any additional information provided, such as the name of
the button; all of this information allows you to determine your current
options.

You change the way your music collection is displayed by focusing the button
mentioned above, pressing spacebar or Enter, and then pressing Tab once to
focus the list of sort options.
Use the up and down arrow keys to select the desired sort option, and then
press Enter to activate it.
At this point, the menu will close, and focus will return to the button
which had been previously focused.
You can then press tab to focus the various controls offered by the new
display of your music collection.

I have found that sorting by Artist or Genre are the most helpful; the
reason for this is that they offer the best view of your music collection.
For example, if you sort by Artist, and press Tab in order to focus the
treeview, this will display all the artists in your music collection; using
the up and down arrow keys, you can move through the list of artists; once
you choose an artist, if you then press F6 (or press tab repeatedly), you
will then arrive at a listview containing all the tracks by that artist,
and, by default, the tracks are sorted by the album they belong to, and, of
course, the tracks are sorted by their order within the album; you will hear
all of this information as you move through the list using the up and down
arrow keys.

Sorting by Genre is equally helpful; in this case, the treeview will contain
the music genres to which the tracks in your collection belong, and the
listview contains all the tracks in that genre, sorted by artist, then by
album, and, lastly, by track order within the album.

An additional point to note is that when the sort button is pressed and the
pop-up menu appears, and you press Tab once in order to focus the list of
sort options, if you continue to press tab, you can navigate through
additional controls, allowing you to further sort the items in the treeview
and listview, depending on the primary sort option you have chosen; note,
however, that, after adjusting these additional controls, you can only close
the menu by returning to the sort listbox and pressing Enter; pressing
Escape allows you to close the menu cancelling any changes you have made.

Hi I am an apple product user for my mobil phone and I also use iTunes on
my

computer for ripping CD's so I can have them on my phone.

Ever since I went to windows 8.1 and Window Eyes 9.2 It is impossible for
me to use iTunes on my computer.

I have iTunes 12.8 or the latest version of iTunes.

If someone can direct me to an app I may need to get and how to find it or
give me some directions on how to use iTunes with window eyes, or if I need
to go back to an older version of iTunes it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in Advance.

Dave

RE: iTunes

2015-11-18 Thread Curtis Delzer via Talk
hey, I think a podcast would be superlative, could be shared on
technical lists everywhere.

Hi Dave,

I'm using the current version of iTunes 12.3.1.23 64-bit on Windows 10.
I've gotten very comfortable with it over the past month or so and I haven't
found anything I can't do with it.
I haven't used it to rip CDs, but I'm fairly sure it can be done using the
current version of Window-Eyes.
I thought about doing a podcast to introduce people to its functions and
such, but I decided against it for now, preferring to see what issues people
are having with it, and then just trying to help on a one on one basis.
Therefore, if you want to write to me off-list or simply ask your question
on the list, I'll certainly try and help.

All the best,

Rod
