Re: [OSM-talk-be] OSM Belgian chapter as a Belgian asbl/vzw
Hi OSM, With Open Knowledge Foundation Belgium vzw we are building an umbrella organisation for Open Knowledge in Belgium. Creative Commons Belgium is a working group, the iRail initiative has become a working group (Open Transport), we have people working on open source software for open data (We Open Data) and so on. It could save you a lot of time and money setting up a vzw/asbl if you could become a WG at OKFN Belgium. You can get one person of your WG in the board of the legal organisation and help making decisions from the OSM point of view. For the rest, you maintain your own budget, make your own decisions in the working group, and you can keep operating as OSM Belgium. I think the goals of our 2 initiatives are too close not to merge efforts :) Kind regards, Pieter On Fri, Oct 4, 2013 at 7:12 PM, Pierre Parmentier pierrecparment...@gmail.com wrote: I order to progress with the registration of OSM-BE as an asbl/vzw, I have: - updated the draft for the statutes.

It's just to have a legal structure in place to be able to pay for the web hosting of the osm.be website, print flyers and things like that. I have myself payed for some of these things in the past (not a lot fortunately) and it would be more convenient this way. Then there was another reason: people/companies/organisations working with OSM sometimes have difficulty to find a good point of contact in Belgium. We could facilitate this with this vzw/asbl. Some feedback has been that it would he useful to have something there to stay and not one person who might or might not be there in a few months/years time. See also: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Foundation/Local_Chapters#Why_Local_Chapters.3F It also important to try and help people in their own language and in person. Pieter's idea may also be something I could agree on (but I would need more details) and of course everyone has to agree. I'm not sure how this would fit in the local chapters program of the OSMF? This money could be used to pay for the domain name, servers, yes. With a legal structure, it would sometimes be easier also to meet officials and be recognized as a structured organization. We could also print business cards (even some kind or generic ones «Member of the Belgian OSM chapter» that would help I am sure) I am also willing to consider Pieter route if is easier and takes away part of the overhead, which I am inclined to believe. Also, being a chapter of the international OSM Foundation and a local (aka Belgian) structure could help. Provided again that we have the flexibility and indepence that could be needed (again, I think that Pieter proposal goes along such lines) Pieter could explain and maybe a meeting / hangout on the subject and comparison of the solution (within OFKN Be or not) could be organized soon and drafted on the wiki. 2013/10/5 Gilbert Hersschens gherssch...@gmail.com I agree with Nicolas. OFKN needs to have convincing arguments. Keep in mind that we are a very small team and just starting to get ourselves more organized. My concern is that becoming part of a larger organization at this point may be like trying to run before we can walk. But let's see what Pieter has to say. indeed. What I consider good with Pieter proposal is for example be that we (the very small number of OSM active people on the list) would spend less time with overhead (eg enter every year a fiscal result, hence follow professionnally or nearly the finance ... which takes more time that just follow the money and bank account, an easy job) Maybe I'll meet Pieter tomorrow at Hackhaton in Namur with Julien. Hello, But doesn't BY-SA claim to cover the database rights? Doesn't that clash with the ODbL? A produced work isn't a database, so BY-SA 4's (proposed) protection of database rights can't be relevant to it, surely. I'm very happy if this is the case. [OSM-talk] Call for Contributions - European Data Forum 2014 (EDF2014), March 19-20, 2014
[Apologies for cross-postings] EDF2014 CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS European Data Forum 2014 (EDF2014) Athens, Greece March 19-20, 2014 http://2014.data-forum.eu/ IMPORTANT DATES - Submission of proposals: December 10 2013, 22.00pm CET - Notification of acceptance or rejection: early January 2014 - Full EDF2014 program available: end of January 2014 ABOUT EDF2014 The European Data Forum (EDF) is an annual meeting place for industry, research, policy makers, and community initiatives to discuss the challenges and opportunities of data in Europe, especially in the light of recent developments such as Open Data, Linked Data and Big Data. The forum balances technical (the technology and infrastructure needed to master the volume, heterogeneity and dynamicity of today’s data), application (new products and services that are now possible due to Open Data, Linked Data and Big Data), and socio-economic issues (social impact, legal issues, government policies and regulations, business models, commercialization and innovation in this new era). Our aim is to bring together all stakeholders involved in the data value chain to exchange ideas that address the above challenges and opportunities, in order to strengthen the European data economy and its positioning worldwide. Discussions at EDF provide input to research, development, and policy activities at the European Commission (e.g. Horizon 2020) and those of the EU member states, with the aim of influencing the development of the new European data economy. An additional goal of the European Data Forum is to establish and foster a truly European data community and ecosystem. This emerging community enables promising ideas to move from the stage of research questions all the way to successful deployment and market introduction. At the same time, its stakeholders will mutually reinforce their strategies that will result in a forward-looking, dynamic, and well-integrated EU-wide ecosystem. Because of the strategic importance of multilingualism in Europe, EDF 2014 will promote the integration and co-operation of the European data community and language resources community. The synergy of these communities is critical for new types of multilingual digital services and the creation of a European digital single market without language barriers. EDF2014 will be held in Athens, Greece on March 19-20, 2014. The program will consist of a mixture of presentations, panels and networking sessions by industry, academics, policy makers, and community initiatives. Topics will cover a wide spectrum of research and technology development, applications, and socio-economic aspects of the data value chain. TOPICS With this call for contributions, we are seeking inspiring presentations addressing the topics listed below: - Innovative research and technology for Open Data, Linked Data and Big Data * New data models, languages and system architectures * Visualisation techniques * Data and content analytics - data mining * Semantic technologies and the Web of data * Geospatial information and its importance in the new era * Language resources and technologies in the new data value chain - Applications * Innovative Open Data, Linked Data and Big Data applications in different sectors of the European economy (geospatial, finance and insurance, health, energy, telecommunications etc.) * Open Data, Linked Data and Big data for development * Particularly welcome in this year’s EDF are applications showcasing how governments and the public sector are making use and benefiting from Open Data, Linked Data and/or Big Data - Socio-economic and policy issues * Economic and business models for new data markets * Legal issues, policies and the European regulatory framework * Cross-sector learning and collaboration for Open Data * Security and privacy * Data governance - Data visions for the future We distinguish between the following types of presentations: - In-use contribution: Presentations with a practical, industry- or user-oriented focus by representatives of technology providers, adopters, and user organizations. - Research contribution: Presentations with a technical focus by representatives of academia and research centres. Research contributions should summarize a broad range of techniques, methodologies or tools of relevance to Open Data, Linked Data and Big Data that have been recently developed by the presenters; papers on specific technical results or systems should be rather submitted to specialized research conferences. - Impact contribution: Presentations with a specific focus on impact-creation activities including policy development, road-mapping, standardisation, exploitation and training. SUMBISSION Each proposal for a presentation will have to provide the following information: - Contributor names and short CVs - Type of the presentation proposed - Title of the presentation - Summary of the presentation (100 words) - Extended abstract of the presentation (at most 4 pages

Was brauchst du den konkret an Informationen? OK.

To what extent the benefit should be, is left to the public, and no amount of policing can really help.
) ça me semble pour l'instant cosmétique.
