Re: 3.0.9.5 Return is now available

2005-03-12 Thread Charlene Ferrara
Dear Marck,
dear Stefan,

Friday, March 11, 2005
you let us know -at least in parts- :

CF Access violation at address 0059DA9A in module 'thebat.exe'. Read of
address 000C.

These are the showstoppers for me. I only have to open the ticker
virtual folder and I seem to be inundated with cascading AVs after a
 few seconds.
I can fully subscribe to your point!

I have encountered this problem only if my old mailbase (old= 1,6GB from
Versions 2.x and above) is restored. When I uninstal all of TB (each and
every folder, reg-settings and and and) then reinstall it properly from
last stable major version and do not import my mailbase (just my
addressbook) I can run even 3.09.4 -without AVs at least. I simply have
to trash my mailbase and might be able to participate of the new code.
Now I can not betatest any further, real avalanches of the shown AVs
show up directly with the splashscreen. For me that's no way to go, too.
Either the codeweavers have to find out what is going wrong with it or I
am determined to use V 3.02.08. I this case I would better change my
client.

My except.log shows the following:
 /Charlene 11.03.2005 19:34:04 GifImage:5 EReadError Stream read error
 /Charlene 11.03.2005 21:36:28 GUIDEF:Item [mAppMinimise] is linked to unknown
 property [unknown]
 /Charlene 11.03.2005 21:36:28 GUIDEF:Item [mAppMinimise] is linked to unknown
 property [unknown]
 /Charlene 11.03.2005 21:36:28 GUIDEF:Cannot bind layout item
 [mwDownloadWizards] to property collection [MailerForm]

But that was probably before 3.0.9.5, the latest version might not have
been able to write its log.

I expect TB to be at least downward compatible to all versions, I am not
willing to dump my mails for some new features.

In 3.0.9.4 Rit announced a better combining of split mails which I was
real curious of. Remember, I had and still have troubles in receiving
split mails. TB freezes and gets inaccessible, and I am not the only
one.

Please, Stef, do something!

Although Mail Ticker was one of the features that really called my
attention when I first run into TB years ago, I don't use it at all.
However I have just now tested what you say and I don't get any AVs at
all.

If you and other people get the AVs there certainly must be something
wrong with TB. However, I have always wondered (and still do) why some
times some people get AVs and some others don't in _apparently_ the same
circumstances.

Hello Martin,

I found the jumping text problem again.

After editing a new window and when to send it I have the window
which askes me if I want to send the message.

Then the text in the To: field jumps to the left border.

Confirmed, but in my case the text just moves a little bit (to the left
and up) to the point that not even the left most character disappears.
Another thing that I have seen is that if Cancel the send, the problem
does not re-appear when I Send again.

Hello Peter,

By means of the 'None', currently not listed, colour group? Either
'None' or 'Generic Group' is redundant. But there must be a way to
define the default font settings. Hmmm, a better name to replace the two

I think it was quite clear the way it was before (None==Generic

Yes, but no matter which way I try to start, I get AVs. I can either
create a new shortcut, click the exe in explorer or whatever comes to
mind (even run as current user -with or without password)
NO luck. IMHO it depends on the mailbase. Something is wrong when TB
initializes it I think. As long as I install it on a fresh system, TB
works. But when I restore my old stuff all versions higher than
3.02.10 will collapse.

If so, make sure that the shortcut

I can even recreate new shortcut with the same result.

subject of Not fixed in 3.0.9.5 (Was: The Bat! 3.0.9.4 Turning off
PC):

On Sat, 12 Mar 2005, MAU wrote a couple of times:

 Not fixed in 3.0.9.5

It surely looks like Ritlabs have got an awful lot to
 fix!

I think the status of the program is still Alpha and far away from what they
call now Beta.

For those users with OTFE, 3.0.9.5 is still not working.

Re: Reverting back to 3.0.2.10 till next (pre-)beta

2005-03-12 Thread MAU
Hello MAU,

I think I have raised enough issues and bugs (some more important than
others) for the moment, but I now need to go back to normal production
work and v3.0.9.4 is still quite far from being usable. So, I will
 revert now to v3.0.2.10.

That was with 3.0.9.4. I have done enough testing with 3.0.9.5 now to
say that, except for a few minor (for me) flaws and limitations, I think
this pre-bata is good enough for my normal daily work. I hope I don't
have to change my mind.

Good work RIT guys! :-)

I reinstalled it in a different folder and it works.

There's something I don't know: where does the programme keeps its
options. I ask this because this version, which is installed in a
different folder, immediately assumed the options of the other
version. I mean options like files location, which are not in the
default folder.

M Hello Goncalo,

As long as I install it on a fresh system, TB works. But when I

 collapse.

That's because a fresh install has no message. :)

M I think that with that statement you are now contradicting what you
M wrote before: Even if the message base is corrupted that doesn't
M answer why the new version doesn't behave well.

Doesn't behave well like the 3.02.10.

Charlene told that all versions above 3.02.10 would pop AV's unless
they were fresh installed. You were pointing that the message base
from version 3.02.10 could be corrupted and I said that even if the
message base from version 3.02.10 was corrupted that wouldn't explain
why version 3.02.10 didn't pop any AV while all versions above did.

Did Charlene try to import the message base into a fresh install of
 TB 3.02.10?

M I'm afraid Charlene will have to answer that.

already):

- insert/overwrite can't be change with the mouse (using the columns at
  the bottom)

- automatic checking icon is only updated, if you change language or
  format

Re[2]: Can't start 3.0.9.5

2005-03-12 Thread Cristina Ramos
Hello Peter,

On Sat, 12 Mar 2005, at 17:23:08 [GMT +0100] (which was 16:23 where I
live) you wrote:

Yes. Try this: close your new TB, rename the original TB folder, start
your new TB, see what happens.

Ok. It worked. I stopped seeing the images.

Still, I can't explain why TB didn't work the first times I attempted
to launch it.

After I installed it in a different folder, I copy the contents of the
original TB folder to a 3rd folder. Then I copied the new files, from
the 2nd folder, to the original one. In every step, I tried to launch
TB and it always worked. Finally I copied the files from the 3rd
folder that were not in the original (files that didn't come in the
rar file), like the Images and Speller folder, the language files,
etc. TB launches very quickly and has been working with no problem.

What I find strange is that the contents of C:\Program Files\The Bat!\
is now the same it was after I unpacked the rar file.

Why didn't it work then, and why is it working now? Why was this file
dance necessary?

Hi Boris,

BA - insert/overwrite can't be change with the mouse (using the columns at
BA the bottom)

BA - automatic checking icon is only updated, if you change language or
BA format

I add to that that the opening of a message creating a duplicate
message list + message in an autopreview style way, if you make the
list of height 0 so you just see the message, its not remembered, and
Id be bitterly disapointed if it stayed that way.

The issue of the short cut has been raised a number of times. I hope
this addressed in the first full official beta.

I asked last week when the alpha testing would end and the beta
testing would start.

Any words of wisdom on this one. While appreciate all of the alpha
testing results, I would really like to see an official beta version.

Action with macro

Hi there!

Does anybody know about NFS feature:

Following action will work:

Move message to folder \\\GROUPS\yahoogroups.com\%FROMADDR
Automatically create - ON

 TB! Message Filter
beginFilter
UID: [43CB2A90.01C4CF86.07FADF23.1C14EBB4]
Name: @yahoogroups.com
Filter: [EMAIL PROTECTED]@yahoogroups.com\0D\0A}
MoveMessage AutoFolder folder \5C\5C\5CGROUPS\5Cyahoogroups.com\5C%FROMADDR
IsActive
Ignore
endFilter

But with %TOADDR this doesn't work :(
In this example I tried do only one rule for all my yahoogroups.com...

What macroses are working now here?

3.0.9.5 Return of the AVs

2005-03-12 Thread Charlene Ferrara
Hello all,

after having done some exhausting work on installing and uninstalling
different versions of TB, I came to the conclusion not to use any pre or
deep or return version.

It is impossible for me to trace the cause for the avalanches of AVs at
start. I had temporarily the illusion of a working 3.0.9.5 Return, but
without any visible cause TB brought some starts later the
Return of the AVs.

All I found out was, that my mailbase itself was not the reason. I ran
TB 3.0.9.5 Return with my complete mailbase for about twenty minutes,
could send and receive. For no reason it crashed later, no setting was
altered.

I did this procedure several times, sometimes I had two address books
(one was the regular, complete one and the other containing the official
Rit-contat and one more private contact, as far as I remember it was the
last one I recently added some days ago) and sometimes I spared the
attachments from being restored -it didn't change a thing. AVs were my
constant companion

I have no more ideas to trace the fault, the only thing that is
consistent is the inconsistence of the pre-betas.

Thanks again to MAU for his help and the echo my postings had in the
list today.

Hope the next version will be usable for me.

Hello TBBETA,

IIRC selecting Follow on search does not show selected message in the

the message list, and now the message is not even shown.
