Address book template editing problems

2008-02-19 Thread Roger Phillips
Hello All,

Maybe I have missed some messages!

Has there been any mention of the problem of copying highlighted text in the
address book group templates ? Ctrl+C does not do anything and there is no
way to customise the editor.

Guten Tag   The Bat! Beta,

i had one Problem, which i was not able to reproduce again.

I clicked on a mailto: Link and got a new Message without
any From (is blank). Even the Account Selection on the
Status Bar was missing.

Changing the Account with the Menue/Option/Active-Account
solved the Problem - but now it's not possible to reproduce
- maybe after restart?

- Message could not be send, even after seleting From in

Thanks for your reply.

It seems that the use of Ctrl+C in the main Message menu for 'Copy to

Slow Mail Processing

2008-02-19 Thread Kyle Goodnight

Hi BatGroup,

I think I have resolved the slow mail issue, at least it appears so. When
cleaning up TB trying to
determine why mail processing was so slow, I had had deleted two add-in's
previously
(MyMacros,Shell) but somehow they did not get removed. Going through the
Options/Preferences
settings one last time, I noted that the two add-in's were back. So I deleted
them again, restarted
TB and checked to make sure they were gone..they were. Checking mail, normal
reading speed had
returned, although receiving still appears slower that other clients
(Outlook,Thunderbird,Eudora, etc). I'm not sure which of
the two add-in's would be impacting mail processing so negatively but it
appears one or both were
the reason mail was so slow.

I have the MsgCenter visible during receiving and will test to see if having
inactive will speed up the process. What other options impacts receiving and
posting mail to the
folders and subsequent reading??

I think I can put this one away now...:'(

Thanks for all the suggestions and help from everyone who responded...

2008-02-19 Thread MAU
Hello Kyle,

Well, I just do not know what else to do. I have run Maintenance on
all of TheBat mail folders, Defraged my drives, Run chkdsk on all
drives, Defragged and padded the MFT, and still no joy. Downloading
the mail takes too long, once mail is processed, reading each
message takes between 6-10 seconds from the time I select the msg
until I am able to switch to a new message. As a last resort, I will
delete the program, clean the registry and reinstall the program to
see if that makes a difference.

SC Are you using a spam checker?

I use Bitdefender but AV is turned off for TB.

Have you completely turned off Bitdefender or even uninstalled it just to
test?

Hello Ian,

It doesn't work means it just ignores some misspelled words i.e Thiought is
 ignored.

You see, this is why I think it is important to 'define' what 'doesn't
work' means and why I insist on it. I have just replied to Henk M. de
Bruijn and, in his case and pending further clarification, it seems that
that 'text is not being checked at all' (like if there was no speller),
while in your case you say that just ignores some words which, to me,
means that the speller _is_ running but it 'makes some mistakes'.

I checked the word list in the dictionary and it is not there so there
is no reason why it should not flag it. As far as the registry export is
concerned, I don't see anywhere to attach either this file or the jpeg of my

Now, here is something I don't understand. If you followed my
instructions, as you said yesterday, I assume you only have the
American English (SSCE) which is installed by default are testing with
it, confirm? If so, where and how did you check the word list in the
dictionary? Because the Ssceam2.clx dictionary is not a text file,
the Ssceam.tlx is is.

there were slightly more shoe shops than one might have thought
necessary. And slowly, insidiously, the numbers of these shoe shops
were increasing. It's a well known economic phenomenon but tragic to
see it in operation, for the more shoe shops there were, the more
shoes they had to make and the worse and more unwearable they became.
And the worse they were to wear, the more people had to buy to keep
themselves shod, and the more the shops proliferated, until the whole
economy of the place passed what I believe is termed the Shoe Event

anything other than shoe shops. Result - collapse, ruin and famine.

But that is a completely different story my friend. TB 'officially'

Well, here is one that 'apparently' it doesn't work with, the new

As I said, I had never before heard about tinySpell. I have been to

4.0.14.2: Spell checker not working. I have seen it happen!

2008-02-19 Thread MAU
Hello all,

Yes, I have. I was writing my second reply to Maggie Meister when I
realised the spell checker wasn't working. To be coherent, I should be
a little more specific and explain what I mean by not working,
shouldn't I? ;)

My facts and what I observed was:

- I normally use 'Automatic checking' with CSAPI British English.

- While writing to Maggie I made an outstanding typo and noticed no red
underline, it wasn't detected as misspelled.

- I visually checked what I had already written and found a few other
typos not flagged as misspelled either.

- I double checked to see if I had 'Automatic check' selected as, due
to testing and the fact that menu icon may be a bit misleading because
it includes the red checkmark, I would not be the first time I had it
not selected. But it was. So, hey! My spell checker wasn't working!

- I then tried Check entire text (F4) and, to my surprise, this would
find every single word as misspelled (actually as 'Not in dictionary'
in the Spell checking dialog) but it did not offer any suggestions for
replacement, the 'Change to' and 'Suggestions' were completely blank. I
also noticed that 'Add words to' dropdown was also black when it usually
shows my CSAPI user dictionary for British English.

- A problem with CSAPI perhaps?

- I switch to SSCE American English only with same results. No
misspelled words if 'Automatic checking' and also exactly same results
if 'Checking entire text'. And this was with SSCE now. H!

- I closed the editor and opened a new window with same results. I did
try this several times and... spell checker not working ;)

- Finally, I re-started TB and everything is back to normal. So, go
figure!

The one thing that may be important to highlight to Rit guys is that
both CSAPI and SSCE suddenly ceased to work, which may point out to
something common to both engines.

Quite obviously, if I see it happen again, I will try to figure out
what was I exactly doing to see if I can repeat it at will.

What I have now found is if you choose Plain Text (Windows) or switch among the

Also, the spell checker must be reactivated every time.

I have not seen such ridiculous behavior in TB! and that is since 1.62r. I'm

I did only have SSCE British English Dictionaries installed but have now had to
revert to Hunspel in order to have a functional editor. When I say I followed
your instructions,
I backed up all of my messages,
Removed every trace of The Bat!
Did a clean install and then finally restored my messages.
At this stage I thought the SSCE engine was working fine, but a few tests proved
that it was ignoring some words. If I type nonsense, say tyhg, then it flags it
as a spelling error but it does not see the mis-spelling of thought as thiought
as an error. I need to do a few further tests as I may have capitalised the
first letter of Thought and marked the option to ignore capitalised letters. It
is good to bounce these ideas around as it causes me to think more about what I
am actually doing.

Hello Henk,

You see, this is why I think it is important to 'define' what 'doesn't
work' means and why I insist on it. I have just replied to Henk M. de
Bruijn and, in his case and pending further clarification, it seems that
that 'text is not being checked at all' (like if there was no speller),

 Hello Miguel,

In finding a cause of all this, one of the things I tried was, moving:
 SSCE5532.DLL to another location.

And now my spellchecker is working again!

I waited a few minutes before replying in order to calm down a bit and
not use what could have been an 'improper' tone. Please take no offence
if the tone I use now still seems 'improper' to you.

What the heck does now my spellchecker is working again mean? Yes, I
know. You type misspelled words, they are detected and you can correct
them. But which 'spell checker' are you using for that?. I'd bet a
dozen beers it is either Hunspell or CSAPI and not SSCE, correct?

If you remove SSCE5532.DLL (the SSCE engine) from The Bat! directory,
then there is no way TB can use it and the SSCE spell checker will not
work and every single word should be flagged as misspelled. That is,
of course, if you are/were only using SSCE.

This whole thing of spell checker(s) working/not working is quite
confusing by itself, specially because of the possibility of using
three different engines and even simultaneously. So, let's all be a
little more rigorous when testing and precise when reporting.

Again, my apologies if my tone offends you or anyone.

Issues:
mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

 So, let's all be a
little more rigorous when testing and precise when reporting.
Totally agree.

for me --

Hunspell only (SSCE5532 extn renamed from dll to make it
inoperative) then spell checking works in every way, no problems

Hunspell disabled (extn renamed from dll) and SSCE5532.dll only
words with a combination of numeric and alpha are underlined, all
other words (right or wrongly spelled) are ignored (no underlining if
wrong spelling).
Options all left blank. Dictionary - EnglishBR
changing options has no effect except for the ignore words with
numeric which does correctly ignore them.

Other speller not an option for me. (does not exist)

My conclusion from this is that SSCE5532.dll is effective since it finds
numeric/alpha errors and reacts when option to ignore this is
selected.
My best guess is that during initialisation process settings are being
corrupted.
What causes this in just a few systems is the hard bit.
Maybe some other programs are corrupting these
settings assuming they are held in the registry.

I do accept resolving this is difficult unless you have a system with this error
but I cannot believe it is due to the normal installation process as that is
under the control of the msi installer.

I am happy with Hunspell but there is a genuine problem to be sorted.

Best regards,
 Graham

Speller working fine now here

2008-02-19 Thread IanPollard

Hi
Just a thought, I un-installed The Bat! completely after backing up my messages. I then removed all traces of The Bat! manually. I then re-installed it and transferred over the latest version of the executable, (Version 4.0.14.2). I then restored my messages, re-registered it and lo and behold, most of it is working fine. I had a hiccup with the SSCE engine options and thought it had failed because it ignored Thiought as a spelling error. When I checked my options, I found that I had checked the box to ignore capitalised letters. I corrected this in my present setup and am now using SSCE as my spell checker with only one outstanding problem and yes, it has highlighted Thiought as errors both above and here. Thank you for all the input especially from Miguel A. Urech. The one problem that remains is that it does not Ignore when selected in the contextual drop down menu but I think I can probably deal with that one.

OTFE icon is wrong, I have PLAIN mode selected, but icon has a lock
 like mode OTFE is selected.

Are you sure? — Cannot confirm!

It's hard to see, but the lock is actually *open* (on the right side)!
;-)

Cheers!

password access not yet completely right

2008-02-19 Thread Graham

 Hello,

I have just loaded 4.0.14.3 and was testing if access to various
menu items could be made when the account tree was collapsed.

Example access menu account/properties allowed access with NO
password !
tried it again and second time it asked for password, thereafter
always wanted a password.

This applied to other items that I expected would need a password -
first time try go access thereafter required password.

Same thing applied to Addresses tab which first time showed email
details for a selected name, repeat test and it only showed a list of
names (which I think also should be password protected)

Best regards, Graham

Re: Speller working fine now here

2008-02-19 Thread MAU
Hello IanPollard,

Just a thought, I un-installed The Bat! completely after backing up my
messages. I then removed all traces of The Bat! manually. I then
re-installed it and transferred over the latest version of the
executable, (Version 4.0.14.2). I then restored my messages,
re-registered it and lo and behold, most of it is working fine. I had
a hiccup with the SSCE engine options and thought it had failed
because it ignored Thiought as a spelling error. When I checked my
options, I found that I had checked the box to ignore capitalised
letters. I corrected this in my present setup and am now using SSCE as
my spell checker with only one outstanding problem and yes, it has
highlighted Thiought as errors both above and here. Thank you for all
the input especially from Miguel A. Urech. The one problem that
remains is that it does not Ignore when selected in the contextual
drop down menu but I think I can probably deal with that one.

Glad to see you got it working. Let's see if 4.0.14.3 solves the Ignore
problem.

on the word, the screen lightened, then went back to normal, and I got
the TB! splash screen. When it had restarted, I tried again, and got a
box from Vista telling me the program had stopped responding.

After reboot, I tried again, and when then came back to finish typing
