Filter rules won't get adjusted

2000-01-25 Thread Nico Schirwing

Hi friends,

there's a message filter that moves a message to a special folder.
If I move that folder to a different location in the folder tree,
the filter still points to the old location and so... doesn't work
anymore. Am I doing something wrong? Shouldn't it be the way that the
filter rule should points to the new location automatically?

Re: Filter rules won't get adjusted

2000-01-25 Thread Nico Schirwing

Hi Allie,

Do you close and reopen the sort office filters applet after each
operation? I suspect that the update isn't reflected without your
 closing and reopening the applet.

That's really odd now... I did rename and move a folder and the filter
rules got adjusted automatically! How did you do that? ;-)

Mh... Maybe the error happens if I move a complete folder structure
with subfolders to another location? If I remeber correctly I got a
very problem anyway by doing that...

thai/chinese etc fonts/kb's

2000-01-25 Thread tracer

Tuesday, January 25, 2000

Hello Bat-users,

We had a while ago a discussion about it and just having installed the
win2000 I didnt see any sign of it in the control panel and that while
early betas HAD Thai and I used it... oops, installed it I mean(g)
Anyway, after awhile I found where ms has hidden the place to set it,
and the USA version will allow chinese/japanese/korean and Japanese
(and loads of others to be installed), they are on the cd..
However to set the keyboard you first have to ADD the keyboard...
How this impacts the bats editor no idea yet but if someone wants to
type or read chinese it seems that the current 2000 can do this...
Anyway I will experiment a bit with my system to see if I can use the
supplied fonts with the editor...

One remark, its quite clear that some programs arent working or
working correctly, the Bat though seems to work.
Some hardware has the same problems. And an upgrade, as I expected, is
the wrong way to try it...(g)

(continuing)
Ok, the interesting thing: I see 2 chinese fonts, both TT.
Song and Wei I think.
I see Thai TT fonts AND they type Thai.
If correct, no idea as I havent got a Thai keyboard on this system.
Intriguing though, it seems if like in my case keyboard is set via
2000 to Thai, I have at least 2 TT fonts which will type and even
Chinese is there. IN the font list of the editor and I have never seen
that before.
No idea who else has 2000 installed but I have this odd feeling that TT
fonts might already work...

Best regards,

tracer

Re: Deleting messages in the preview pane

2000-01-25 Thread Andrew K. Lovetski

Hello, The Bat Users!

TB Is there any way to turn of the deletion confirmation when deleting
TB messages from the preview pane? An alert box pops up each time I hit
TB Del and the preview pane is the active window. The same behavior
TB doesn't occur when the headers pane is active, or when the message is
TB in its own window. And since the alert box triggers the chime.wav, it
TB gets kinda noisy if I'm deleting 50 messages at a time this way.

The only way I see is to use some 3-d party software: a program should
wait for such dialogs to appear and then click the Ok button for you.
But be careful: _all_ such confirmation dialogs will be closed
automatically.

There are some features I would like to see in your program:

An indication in Address Book, telling me that the certain person
has some special templates activated. I have a number of such
people, but I don't remember which ones they are and as I have
recently reorganized whole my template system, some old ones don't
work anymore.

I think that a small symbol, next or on the current card
indicating sex, would be sufficient.

The folder's template editing is the only editing with CP right-click

Spell Checker Oddity ?

type the word again, the Spell Checker will underline it yet again, as if

Dictionary... or correct it, and choose "Ignore All"... if I happen to

That behavior is similar to the spell checker in MSWord, among others.

"Ignore All" as I understand it, tells the checker to ignore all occurrences
of that word for -this- message (or use) only. Since it's not being added
to the user dictionary, it will flag it as unknown/incorrect the next
time the spell checker is called into action.

The latter won't work, "ComPort busy".

Not quite true, but you won't have thought of it: PPTP. I do 'dial'
twice. The first connection is to the internet and the second
connection is a PPTP one to a firewall-protected server. (NT handles
these VPN - virtual private network - ports similar to COM ports,
you can define DUN connections on them)

Note that i didn't even try to set up TB! to do this, i do it
manually; and i don't think TB! (or any other program) should do
more than one simple connection. Complicated cases like mine should
be handled be the OS (or a dedicated utility).

PGP Bug?

2000-01-25 Thread Sebastian Ahmadi

Hi BAT users.

I am using The BAT since version 1.38e. I installed PGP support (6.5)
and am happy with it. There is just something that keeps bothering me,
and it happens every time I decrypt an encrypted message (it contains
the sender's public key at the end). The program keeps asking me if I
want to import the keyset. Well, the first time I thought that would
be okay, but it does that EVERY time I am decrypting a mail. What's
that all about? Does anyone have the same problem? What's the
solution?

Alright, that's it for the moment.
Hope you guys can help me, thanks in advance,

Sebastian.

Leif until I can do that, I'll have to wait to test the submission forms.

just put the pgp path to whereever your keyrings are and the bin file

Sounds like a good idea if some people could validate it as its not

Does it ask you that each time you are sent an encrypted message from the

the same user, are they using the same private key to encrypt all the
messages, and have you got their public key on your keyring?

Re: On editors and wishlists

2000-01-25 Thread Douglas Hinds

Hello Tom,

Tuesday, January 18, 2000, 7:41:32 PM, you wrote:

TP Ok, so I've been shopping for a new email client, and The Bat!
TP seems to be working relatively well.

Complicated commands not well identified, rough and inconvenient
access to many features, filtering complicated by being folder based -
but it's stable, has an outstanding editor, best spell check
implementation I've seen, it's multilingual, does many things at a
time, the developers are responsive, there's a really good user-group,
and it does "seem to be working relatively well", with many
improvements in the wings. Worth the hassle of learning, in my
opinion.

TP Without going into evangelism, can anyone give me any pros/cons of
TP the "competition" as compared to The Bat!?

TP I've downloaded Calypso but have yet to install it.

Calypso has a few neat tricks that I'd like to see on TB (multiple
signatures and active account more accessible, an accounts column),
but incredibly bad tech support, no functional users group, a really
poor monolingual spell check dictionary, and when it blew up after a
minor upgrade (with 50 mb of my encrypted mail), no remedy was offered
than my changing whole system. And it does one thing at a time. Pretty
but shallow.

TP Haven't used Eudora in years. Don't know about anything else...
TP So, what's up, what features do each have that the other(s) don't?

Not 3 pane (I was coming from Netscape), poor tech support,
Anticipates many things I want to do incorrectly, freezes often or
won't open - and that is also true for me with Pegasus.

TP In other words, why is The Bat! a better choice than either of these
TP two?

See the above. It may more be a matter of personal choice, the work
habits of the user, what he's used to, or a matter of what works on
your system, and not necessarily a matter of which is the better
choice. Different strokes for different folks.

TP If you don't think that this is appropriate to the list, please
TP respond directly to my email box. You know how to find it. ;)

I did start this as private mail, but it's a valid question for TBUDL:
Why do you all use The Bat? (Although Alexander V. Kiselev doesn't - check his
headers - he's using Pegasus Mail for Win32 v3.12b and his reasons
have been stated clearly on TBUDL and should be found in this months
archives w/ the subject heading: Pegasus vs. The Bat!).

Here are some other email programs some people like:

Becky - Japanese (I downloaded it but haven't tried it - because I'm
satisfied with TB! in the sense that it's already dependable and
useful now and steadily improving) http://www.rimarts.co.jp/becky.htm

Lingomail - Israeli:

Don't remember which of the above urls is best.

SouthSoft, Inc. - PMMail PMINews

Many like this, I haven't tried it.

Hope that helps.

Morning Max Masyutin,

Examples are attached. Hope you find them useful. But, before

 Thanks, but...

I imported the PGP-key and added the forms. Now this may sound stupid, but
I still have no idea how to use them. I see them in the submission forms

 Am I doing something wrong?
