Missing AB Groups
On getting my e-mail today I noticed that my filters were resulting in strange results. Many of my filters are based upon address book groups and I have filters that automatically put many addresses in address book groups. On investigating this morning, I noticed that all my address book groups are gone along with all the entries that were in the address books. If you write the mail and decide to add a PP second file it _ain't_ listed where the macro '%ATTACHMENTS' is PP placed! Not exactly. Have a look at what happens, when you start a new mail: At first, the cursor is in the To: field. If you now *attach* a file, the cursor will be placed in the message body when you close the file selection dialog. That's the reason why the macro shows the first attachment correctly. For any subsequent attachment made now, the cursor stays right where it is, in the message body. And that is why the macro isn't evaluated again. If you focus the To: field before attaching the second file (like it was in the beginning) TB! will correctly list *both* attachments. PP If you edit the message text TB! does not remember anymore where PP what _macro_ was placed, instead the evaluated macros (and therefor PP their content / text) are present. I don't think that all macros are just replaced with the string they create. If that was the case, the re-evaluation via shifting the focus wouldn't work. PP This is the same with every other macro that influences the text or PP content of your mail like '%From' settings, '%From*' texts (e.g. for PP footer), '%Subject' or even '%Language' ... they're all 'invisible', PP not insertable runtime and only evaluated before editing the mail PP has begun. Those macros need only be evaluated once (usually). But it's different with %ATTACHMENTS. Perhaps we should make a suggestion that all macros are re-evaluated after a change in the attachments. That would solve those problems. -- Regards, Lars The Bat! 1.54 Beta/6 on Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 2 |Lars Geiger | mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]| | PGP Key: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=GetPublicKey | -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

IMAP4
Hi TBUDL, I have upgraded my mail server to IMAP4. I have set the transport protocol to IMAP4. It works, I can send and receive email using IMAP4. How do I manage my messages on the server? I could not find much in the help file and I quote: For example, email stored on an IMAP4 server can be manipulated from a desktop computer at home, a workstation at the office, and a notebook computer while travelling, without the need to transfer messages or files back and forth between these computers. In other words, IMAP4 is a superset of POP3 that provides good support for all three modes of remote mailbox access: offline, online, and disconnected. end of quote: Great, now how do I manage my emails? Hi Marck, Historians believe that Monday, August 13, 2001 at 14:59 GMT +0100 was when, Marck D Pearlstone [MP] typed the following: MP IMHO you've got a very good point. But I'd go one step further (or MP nearer?). I don't think it needs a check box. I think unread messages MP should *not* be purged under any circumstances. What about folders for time-sensitive mail? For example, promotional material may be useless after a couple of days. Read or unread, the mail has no value. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi Lars, On Mon, 13 Aug 2001 18:00:01 +0200, you thoughtfully wrote the following: ... LG Not exactly. Have a look at what happens, when you start a new mail: LG At first, the cursor is in the To: field. If you now *attach* a LG file, the cursor will be placed in the message body when you close LG the file selection dialog. That's the reason why the macro shows the LG first attachment correctly. For any subsequent attachment made now, LG the cursor stays right where it is, in the message body. And that is LG why the macro isn't evaluated again. If you focus the To: field LG before attaching the second file (like it was in the beginning) TB! LG will correctly list *both* attachments. This is exactly right. The trick is to create all the attachments with the cursor out of the message body, *before* doing any editing of the message body whatsoever. This is also the way address book templates are applied. I create a new message, edit the To: field and upon placing the cursor in the message body, the address book template for the recipient is applied. If I had *manually* edited the message body in any way, the template wouldn't have been applied. I say *manually* edit because you can change the message body template output by changing the recipient for which another template is associated. Upon moving the cursor to the message body, again, the template is automagically changed from that of the old recipient template to reflect the address book template of the new recipient. :-). - -- ©Allie C Martin List Moderator (and fellow end-user) PGP public key: http://pgpkey.ac-martin.com __ MUA: The Bat! 1.54 Beta/6 [OS: Windows 2000 Service Pack 2] _ -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (MingW32) Comment: Sealed for security. iEYEARECAAYFAjt4Q+EACgkQV8nrYCsHF+JAYACfdYo8g+HKNcoZ1cz4BXfvz/M8 wIkAoKAdUYxEVuALLRg3rdJ3SsP4XAv2 =GFiJ -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

Hello syv, On Monday, August 13, 2001 at 8:32:11 PM you wrote: s So there is no way to manage the mail? You can 'manage' it in a limited way: mail dispatching on server, AFAIK no moving on server in different mailbox, only fetching, setting status read/unread, deleting. SO all in all the same TB! offers to do with POP3-ed mailboxes, no _full_ IMAP support yet. For me this is still enough as it's faster than using POP3 and comparing UIDL's, because I leave mail on server and it needs only 3-7 days to have 1k to 2k mails on server ... Nevertheless I looking forward and hoping IMAP in TB! support grows as this is a very useful way of mail dispatching, especially as I'm dispatching several mails from home _and_ from work. -- Regards Peter Palmreuthermailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (The Bat! v1.54 Beta/6 on Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 ) The universe is laughing behind your back. -- __ Archives : http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] TBTech List: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

No it ain't. Netscape stores read/unread status somehow internally. Exporting to mbox-Format does not _really_ support read/unread status storing. There're some kinds of 'Status:' Header field used for that, but AFAIK they're not standardized like in a RFC. So how should TB! be able to recognize the former status?
