Yeah. We're on the same page and this is why I wrote in my message:

The problem is really the choice of server software and if it's
Exchange then Outlook beats other solutions in terms of optimization
for use with Exchange.

IOW's if Exchange is the server, the Outlook is the 'hand fitting in

folder to hold 100 most recent messages?

2004-08-31 Thread Christopher Brown
Hi List,

Is there a way to have a folder hold the 100 most recent list messages, and move the
older messages to another folder?

The reason is that I use IMAP, and I would like to have an IMAP folder to provide
access to the most recent posts so I can view them from anywhere, but I don't want the
folder to grow too big, since my IMAP space is limited. Therefor, I'd like to move

that allows filtering by greater than/less than/equal than + a number of
days. Being a virtual folder, it would be entirely dynamic without the need
to move mails around. Now that doesn't exactly provide a solution for your
wish to download older messages, but maybe it is a start?

No. However when you've changed your account settings in the latest
beta cycle (starting from 2.13), you will loose those settings, since
the account info is stored in a different file. (account.cfn instead
of account.cfg)
Most dramatic would be if you'd added a new account in 2.13/3.0

Access Violation when I try to PGP sign or encrypt + nothing happens when I try to decrypt/verify

2004-08-31 Thread Mike email (The Bat!)

Hi

Trying to PGP sign or encrypt has started giving me
Access Violation at address 00404044 in module 'thebat.exe'.
  Read of address F28B12E7.

This was happening very occasionally but is now all the
  time.

After starting TB I can decrypt/verify messages. If I try to
sign or encrypt one it goes through all the motions of selecting
signing key, asking for passphrase (if not cached), selecting
keys to encrypt to etc. Then nothing happens. The edit message
window stays open and the message is not sent.

From that point onwards, pressing the button to decrypt a
message or verify a signature does nothing either.

Trying to send the message again (or another) gives the access
violation. This is only if using the built-in support with pgp
(8.0.3). I can still use PGP's current window functionality and
I can still send non-pgp messages.

Trying to access the openpgp preferences dialog gives a
different access violation message:Access Violation at address
02904ED2 in module 'PGPSDK.dll'. Read of address 02A8800C.

Any ideas what has happened and how to resolve?

I don't know if it will work on IMAP because I don' use and haven't even
tried IMAP.

What I do in some of my POP folders is to Use folder specific deletion
settings, which you can find in the Deletion tab of the folder
properties. When you tick this option the possibilities are displayed.
Then select Alternative deletion to move message to your 'archive'
folder and also select use alternative deletion to purge this folder.
This way, if in the General tan of folder properties you have selected
to Keep messages in base let's say for 7 days, when you do a purge and
compress (which I do daily) your messages older than 7 says are moved
to the archive folder.

Hope I've made it clear enough.

Well, this is merely my take on it but, to cut a long story short

TB! v3 (Yes, that's right. Final release apparently) is out tomorrow.

 it's out, I'm running it :)

Yes, I'm trying it out now too. I'll reserve judgement on it for now :)

(TBH, I thought it was a misprint or something and that it wouldn't *really* be out
tomorrow/today ;)

Bugs still remain in v2 (and considering Beta 1 of v3 came out
yesterday, it is assumed v3 *probably* contains a fair few bugs too)

so mush for a long beta cycle :)

LOL. Indeed. Must have been some helluva internal beta test ;)

Supposedly promised features for v2 will now not be delivered for v2.

 I haven't heard this yet.

True. This is hearsay at this point. I should have made that clearer. Sorry :)

Registered users are expected to pay for the upgrade to v3.bugs included.

unless they send you a registration key...

Well, we can't all be that lucky! I guess the rest of us are expected to cough up if
we want it :)

Is the The BAT! 3.0 released?

2004-08-31 Thread Bob Morris
G'day TBUDL Members,

Is there a new version 3.0 released? RitLabs site has it featured on
http://www.ritlabs.com/en/products/thebat/ but any attempt to access
what's new details, or other information about it just leads to a page
in Cyrillic characters.

Third time is a charm?

2004-08-31 Thread Roman Katzer
I can't believe it.

It's hardly a year since version 2 came out and I was wondering why there
were so few minor releases in the last weeks. Now RITLabs is releasing
version 3 without functioning IMAP support in V2 (promised) and a whole
load of new, unfixed bugs introduced.

This is a slap in the face of all users - to get bugs fixed now (in
software you paid for) you have to get the next version. I suppose version
4 will be out six months from now, and version 5 three months after that?
After which you'll be paying for minor releases?

But hey, it's going to be 50% off if you bought all the previous versions!

I'm very angered right now.
Roman

C I completely forgot that Windows XP Home (AKA, Windows XP Crippled)
C doesn't let you modify permissions without jumping through hoops.

There is a command line utility called CACLS that can be used to
edit permissions. Open a command window and cd to whatever path
you need. Then cacls *.* /t /e /g Users:f to give users full
 access (I think)

Google for CACLS for more info as I can't remember where I found
 it

Re[5]: Addressing email

SC Did you try: Start typing first name, when correct address appears

rg My point exactly, you have to hit TWO keys to get it done.

rg Why would TB! think that a comma, entered on the address line, might

For exactly the reason Roelof described above in his Doe, John

Mime Preamble

2004-08-31 Thread Russell Robinson
Hi,

Since upgrading from version 1, I've noticed TB is not showing any
MIME Preambles.

To test, I sent a MIME email with a preamble to a TB address and an
Outlook Express address. OE shows the preamble when I view the
message source, and TB doesn't.

Does anyone know why this change has occurred and what to do about
getting to see the preamble?
