Although I can't offer any suggestions as to remedying your problem, I
can tell you that I am currently running Norton System Works 2003
version 6.01 build 57 with no problems. I purchased this version
shortly after it came out but was never able to get it to install
properly on my Sony Viao desktop running Win98. However, I kept it
around and ultimately loaded it this machine which runs Win XP Pro as
you can see below.

Fortunately it hasn't caught any infected incoming email in quite a
while (that was actually the previous version 2002 running on the
aformentioned Sony) but my address book is quite small so I do not
have a lot of email traffic. It *does* display a progress bar on all
outgoing emails and I have never been contacted by anyone claiming I
sent them an infected email.

If I can provide any other information please don't hesitate to
contact me.

Which I think is why Miguel suggested the subfilters should NOT be set
to continue processing. This is then the exit command from the group of
subfilters.

Doesn't that work for you?

If you still have problems, can you tell us the conditions you are
checking for and the outcomes you want.

Is there anyone here using TC in WinXP-Home? I find that "Copy" in TC
will no longer copy "system" and some other files. Is that the ways
it is? Or can I get around it?

I use Norton AntiVirus with The Bat! and have no problems. I have it
set to scan both incoming and outgoing mail, but I have the progress
indicator turned off.

It has caught dozens of infected incoming e-mails. No infected
outgoing mail, yet, so I can only assume the scanning of outgoing mail
is working.

[Query] Norton AntiVirus and The Bat!

2004-11-02 Thread David M. Dickerson
Hello, everyone.
I apologize for bringing up the subject of Norton
AntiVirus (NAV) and The Bat!, again -- but one
serious concern I have is that Norton AntiVirus does
not work with The Bat!, which causes concern about
registering The Bat!. (I am still dealing with some
other problems with Cyrillic text, but I want to
focus on one problem per list message.) ;-)
Does The Bat! require a antiviral plug-ins for
protection?
Every other e-mail program that I have tried works
well with NAV. One nice feature of NAV is that it
scans outgoing messages for viruses. When I send a
message with any other e-mail client, except The
Bat!, a progress bar appears, showing that NAV is
scanning the message before sending it.
On Symantec's Web site, there is one knowledge base
article about NAV 2001 and The Bat! 1.X that
describes a way to use NAV 2001 with that earlier
version of The Bat!, by interfacing with a "Norton"
POP3 domain. Of course, the domain is now 'symantec'
and this workaround does not work with more current
versions of NAV or The Bat! 3.X. (Can you imagine
Symantec giving away such a service these days!) :-)
When I made this inquiry earlier, I received some
public and private responses telling me to switch
from Norton System Works Professional and to use
another antivirus product that has a plug-in for The
Bat!, but the Symantec product is what I have and
licensing The Bat! is going to be a huge financial
strain on me, without purchasing another antivirus
product. (I am searching for another technical-
writing job, so finances are a major concern, but
The Bat! is an impressive product and TBUDL is a
wonderful resource -- and I hope to contribut to the
documentation project for The Bat!, once I move on
from the stage of "total neophyte [idiot]" with The
Bat!) ;-)
In addition, I assume that running two antivirus
products is poor practice and it would definitely be
a drain on system resources. Even if I found a free
antivirus product with a plug-in for The Bat!, I
would have to keep it updated and run scans, just as
I do with NAV, which does provide automatic updates.
Therefore, I have the issue of system maintenance to
consider.
I am not trying to start a controversy, but simply
to find a solution. My searches of the Web have
proven fruitless. I have contacted Symantec support
and received an automated reply promising a reply
within four to five days, but that time period has
lapsed.
Based upon the progress bar that I see when I send
e-mail from other clients, it appears that NAV is
not scanning The Bat!'s outgoing messages (and I
want to be a good "netizen"). :-) Of course, NAV
does not indicated that it is scanning incoming
messages, unless one has a virus, and -- "knock on
wood" -- I have not had this problem.
I would be very grateful for any information or
suggestions.
Thank you very much, in advance!
Cordially,
David

I think it should work Ian. Are you sure you set up this structure?

Parent Filter (*) (**)
Sub F. 1: If A Set Colour Group 1 (***)
Sub F. 2: If B Set Colour Group 2 (***)
Sub F. 3: If C Set Colour Group 3 (***)

Where:
(*) With a condition that will _always_ trigger (so that subfilters will
be executed) and with _no_ action.
(**) Set to 'Continue processing with other filters'
(***) _NOT_ set to 'Continue processing with other filters'

I'll test it as soon as I can, but it _should_ work.

I appreciate the detail and courtesy of your reply, Mica!
I do not feel that you owe me an apology. :-) I thank you
for your best wishes -- and I extend mine to you and your
loved ones!
Such occasional confusion is to be expected on a discussion
list with people from all over the world writing in English,
which may not necessarily their native language.
Your English is certainly not "shallow," Mica, and I offer
my congratulations to your on your clearly written message,
about which you obviously gave much serious thought.
I think that, for the most part, we excuse each other for
such misunderstandings in an electronic and international
community, such as TBUDL. (We should strive for such a
goal, at the very least.)
I am very ignorant about The Bat! and I am still evaluating
the program. The evaluation has become problematic primarily
because of two factors, which I will address in a separate
message to the list.
Thank you, again, Mica. You are truly a gentleman, and your
"deep thoughts" are an admirable quality and an asset to our
discussions! :-)

Top posting, i.e., typing all your reply text at the top of your

We would much prefer if you quote just that much of the message to

I asked Ritlabs support for help and I get it in less that 10 minutes.

Now it works.

The problem was .srx files to be deleted in my accounts folders. I deleted them and
now all is OK !

I'm glad to have such quick and efficient answer from Ritlabs (Alexander Petrari).

Sorry, I no longer have that link handy and I cannot read the site

Hopefully someone else will be able to post a copy of the link for

I think it should work, but I haven't tried it myself.

Big problem with filters NFS in V3 ! HELP !

2004-11-02 Thread WilWilWil
Hello,

Yesterday I decided to improve my addresses management by using new filter system and
addresses books.

I first create a common filter for all my 5 accounts that looks into "TO" "CC" and
"BCC" fields of a new sent mail to add addresses in a group of my addresses book named
"Personal White List".

This filter seems to work great.

So, I decided to work better, and make a group by account in addresses book. SO, I
create these 5 groups, and create a new filter like the common one for each 5 account.

I first create filter for account 1 :

OUTGOING MAIL of account 1
name : "my_filter_captureAdresses_for_account 1"
General : address book \does not contain \all recipients
Actions : Add addresses from TO:, CC:, BCC:, to groups "Personnal White List Group for
account 1"
Option : this filter is active

Then, I copied / Pasted this filter for each account and after, just changed the name,
and the target addresses Book Group. For example, the 2nd filter for account 2 become :

OUTGOING MAIL of account 2
name : "my_filter_captureAdresses_for_account 2"
General : address book \does not contain \all recipients
Actions : Add addresses from TO:, CC:, BCC:, to groups "Personnal White List Group for
account 2"
Option : this filter is active

I quickly discovered than when I left and came back to TB, all changes done for
adaptation of filter by account was lost. For my 5 accounts, TB has keep the same
name, same rules and same addresses group targets. All rules stay the same as account
1 !

Well, I decided to kill all the rules, left TB, launch again, and re create manually
the filters and rules. And great, I see that changes are staying correct.

BUT NOW THE REAL PROBLEM IS:

Now, those rules and filters work when I receive new mail !!! The addresses go to my
addresses book!!! Yes, on Incoming email. But I 'm sure because I've just checked
this, rules are set for OUTGOING Mails.

Big problem... Panic in my adresses book! Hundreds of adding !

Because I'm tired with those filters problems, I kill all filters. But now I become
crazy. The filters go on ! They are killed, I've left TB, reboot my computer, launch
TB again but outgoing email rules carry on even they are killed.

What's happen ? What can I do ? Help...

Thanks

Try to create a filter with the 'continue processing' bit set. Set all
of your colour group filters as subfilters of this parent filter. See
if that does what you want.
Of course I don't give any guarantees, the NFS is still new for me
too. ;-)

When you don't see any charset=utf-8 then you should be able to pick
the proper viewer in Options -> Preferences -> Viewer/Editor

Z> 1. How is v3 compare to v1.62 -- in terms of memory requirements and

As v3 has somewhat more features, it's bound to use more memory, but
I've never used v1 and v3 on the same computer with the same
message base, so I can't do an honest comparison.

Z> 2. Will the backup/restore copy all configurations, accounts,
Z> filters, etc. from v1.x to 3.x?

There's no need to do any backup/restore during the upgrade. You
should be able to install v3 on top of v1 without any problems.

Some config files changed.
folder info:   account.flx -> account.flb
account info:  account.cfg -> account.cfn
filters:   account.srx -> account.srb

Those conversions are supposed to go automatically, but I advise to
check all of them. Note that the filters have been changed quite a
bit. Apart from some extra filtering conditions subfilters have been
introduced and so on.

The function of some macros has been slightly changed during the v1/v2
transition, so when you're using them extensively you'd better check
their output. As a bonus it's possible now to use recursive templates
and variables.

Z> 3. Do the messages.tbb and messages.tbi have the same structure in
Z> v1.x and 3.x?

That's a tricky question. ;-)
When you compare 1.62 and V3, the answer is that they have the same
structure. But IIRC somewhere in the 1.4x/1.5x transition they
changed, so you might have been asking the wrong question.

Z> i.e. can I copy the *.tbb and *.tbi from a computer with
Z> 1.x to another another computer with v3? Or do I have to use Backup
Z> and Restore?

I wouldn't use TB's backup/restore function at all, see the thread
with the subject "Auto Backup" that started yesterday in
mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
Anyhow, simply copy your complete mail directory to your new computer,
install TB and tell it to configure new accounts and to stay away from
backups. On installing a new account, TB will ask for the mail
directory, you point it to your copy and after that you enter the name
of the account, TB will recognize that name and will pick that
account. The necessary conversions should be performed automatically.

This is what is in one of the "offending" e-mails:-

Content-type: multipart/alternative;
 boundary="=_NextPart_000_0018_01C4BFFF.CA920770"

Is this causing the problem?

Anyway of getting these to display as plain text?

Thanks for the help!
