TBUDL Mission Statement
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Greetings TB Listers, This is your monthly message from the moderation team to remind you of the primary purpose of this discussion list. To review the list rules, follow the link at the end of this message. Before posting a question to the list, please check The Bat! User's FAQ at: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/FAQ.html and the list archive at http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED] To subscribe, send a message to mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] There is also a beginners 'MAQ' (Most Asked Questions) available by clicking here: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] and sending the resulting message. TBUDL Mission statement The TBUDL list has been set up for the purpose of discussing The Bat! and how to use it. It is a community of users ready and able to help new users get to grips with some of the capabilities of this flexible email client. More complex issues are discussed on the TBTECH list (see below for details). Simply send messages to mailto:TBUDL@thebat.dutaint.com to send it to the whole list. See the notes at the end of this message for details about how to manage your list membership or to leave the list. It would probably be a good idea for you to set up a folder to keep TBUDL messages in. If you do this, the next most useful thing to have in place is an automatic filter to move mail from your inbox into your TBUDL folder. Set up a filter for incoming mail which looks for: Header Field [Reply-To] Contains [EMAIL PROTECTED] The Roguemoticon Project It's nice to see your contact's face in the header ... and for them to see yours. That's what roguemoticons are all about. If you wish to add yourself, then you'll need to visit this site http://www.pcwize.com/thebat What this place will do for you is to allow you to create an account, add your image and then let you download a .ZIP file containing all the files you'll need to be able so see people's faces without having to send or receive any real images in any messages. To trigger the roguemoticon display in the message header for anyone reading your message using TB, you have the choice of using the X-Rogue: header or a signature trigger. How to use a signature trigger The image is triggered by a 'Handle' you've defined in your account, and when that Handle appears in a message it gets replaced on the client side by the corresponding image. A handle could look like anything you want it to look like pretty much. For example: :Leif_Gregory: Just add this text to your standard message signature block. How to create the X-Rogue: header You can do that with this macro: %SetHeader('X-Rogue',':your_handle:')%- in your templates for this and other tb-lists. However, the macro alone won't do the trick. TB'll say: 'Hey, that's not any RFC822 header I know about', so you'll have to define it as such: Options .. Preferences .. Messages .. Message headers .. 'Add' Now you'll get a pop-up to define the header Display as: X-Rogue (or whatever, it isn't very important) RFC header: X-Rogue Uncheck: 'This field is an address list' (because it isn't) Check: 'Allow this field to be edited in the message editor' Uncheck: 'Display this field in the scrollable part of the header pane' Now you're done and every TB-user can see your lovable face when they've installed the roguemoticons. For you to see peoples faces: To get this going, you should be running TB! v2.12 or later. Fetch the following file: http://www.pcwize.com/thebat/smileys/rogues.zip Unzip it to the 'Images' directory that's in your TB! installation directory: C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Images You should now have a directory called 'rogues' containing many images as well as the file 'rogues.msl' in your Images directory. Go into the preferences, and bring up the View/Editor options. Now hit Shift-CTRL-Alt-T while TB! is in focus. This will re-fetch TB!'s smiley set from disk and load the new images. I don't know a way to do what you want. However, it might be possible to get the mailticker away from the vital areas of your screen. Especially if you have it sized reasonably small itself. I put my cursor on it (my OS is Windows XP) and simply move it out of my way, as I would move any other window. When I've taken care of what I want to, I put it back in the top righthand corner of the monitor screen, the position I prefer it to be in most of the time. Please don't laugh, but I screwed up and can't get my Address Book to appear. I was playing around (always a bad omen) and decided to make an Address Group. It was my intent to make a single entry which would encompass a group of email addresses to which I commonly send messages. Maybe thats not what an Address Group is for. But, sometimes the mailticker pops up, but I'm in a hurry and can't read the mail at once. So I want to make the mailticker go out of my way, but only until new mails arrive (because sometimes on a small monitor the mailticker opens over vital areas of the screen). Currently I know of two options: 1. right-click on ticker window -> hide: this hides the mailticker, but it does not come back until I use options -> mailticker -> Display -> automatically 2. set all new mails to "read", which is bad: I might overlook a new mail later. What I want to have: an option to hide the mailtickerwindow for now, without having to read mails/change mail status/hiding the mailticker completely. -- Martin TB! 3.61.06 Echo (Beta) on Windows XP 5.1 Service Pack 2 Current version is 3.60.7 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

First I missed the entire concept of templates, no matter what kind it my be. Can't really see how to do without this, it is just to powerful a feature to do without. Secondly filtering. I currently filter a lot of mail the TB!. All of my business contacts are filtered for incoming and outgoing mail so all my mail is in one place. I found no way to filter outgoing mail in Thunderbird. Thirdly HTML rendering. I only switched to Thunderbird briefly because of TB! serious lack of development in this area. I had several people that send mail to me in this format and I needed to have a way to deal with it. We can whine and complain about HTML mail being the spawn of Satan all we want but the bottom line is that it is here to stay. The issue of not seeing images is a major concern. It is true we can open in a browser but why should we have to. This has been a major topic over the last few years and doesn't look like it will ever be implemented. My suggestion is allow the user to have a global setting to accept images of not. Maybe even accept on the level of the address book. After all, malicious code is not coming from out friends we trust. My favourite example is the pager number, hardly anybody uses pagers anymore. So assign that field to contain the language. And with the %ABToBusPager macro you can query that setting. So this macro %Language='%ABToBusPager="NL"'%- will give you the language setting you inserted in the AB and it'll give you Dutch when there's no language set in the AB. Same thing goes for greetings in defined languages. Create the QTs GreetNL and GreetBR (note that only the last part of the name differs and where you'd like your greeting, insert something like this: %QInclude('Greet%ABToBusPager="NL"') Makes it easy to add languages, just add the appropriate QTs for your new language. The only problem with this is when you're sending the same mail to multiple contacts, not all of them with the same preferred language. TB picks the setting from the first recipient. No problem when you're writing to Marck and me, but definitely a problem when you're writing to me and Marck. -- Groetjes, Roelof If the water is clean, you see the bottom, if dirty, you see yourself. Can I define the spelling language in a template? I'm answering both questions in one. You can set the language for the spell checker with this macro: %Language="NL" You can substitute the NL (for Dutch) with AM or BR for American or British English. You can create quick templates (QT) that contain nothing else than %Language="NL"%- or %Language="BR"%- and assign a shortcut to these QTs. -- Groetjes, Roelof I'd Have Written Sooner But I Thought I Owed You Money. Adding to the template %LANGUAGE='BR' will set the spelling check to British English, %LANGUAGE='FR' to French, %LANGUAGE='NL' to Dutch.
