To have the complete options to manipulate mail and folders and have the same content from several machines which could be moved anywhere at any time does not seem possible with POP3. There would need to be some sense of how you would let it be limited from normal operations. Like some perspective on how often you'd want to do certain common operations, reading, sending, etc. And it doesn't sound like it would do. Only if you could do with some subset of normal operation might you try some of these options. None of these options you cited involve operating on the same mailstore. So it won't be identical. It would only be a question how similar content you might do with, or how much extra time you might allot for making copies of the folders. I guess NTFS cannot be changed to FAT32. But someone should have some opinion on what is going on there. I'm using FAT32. Right at the top of this window is my main temp folder. And there are lots of others to choose from. You add them by clicking the checkbox. Once they are added, you can click one of the thunderbolt like icons to remove their contents. This removes items from the left lower pane. (If you click a particular temp folder on the right pane, in the files list, and then click Empty Selected Folder, it won't just delete that one, it will delete all the folder contents that are selected on the left pane.) If you are talking about the TCP/IP modes listed under Network and Administration, I don't think that relates to what you were discussing. (I could be wrong) What you are asking about is how to access a single mail base from more than one machine. The only protocol that provides that is IMAP. Anything else would have some issues. If you still use POP, then you'd have to access the same files to have the same effect. If you were away for a week, I guess you'd need to copy all the mail base files and take them with you first. And when you returned, you would copy all the mail base files back. I don't think too many people do that. But you'd then have everything the very same in both places. I guess you want to try out all the options. And see what suits you best. And if there seem some shortfalls in how it works out still, you can pose them. With the speed of wired and wireless networks these days, things are probably not too constricting. Just try everything. Anti-spam
I am not using a recent TB version too much. But, it isn't clear, does it have a complete solution against spam on board? It seems like you have a couple menu entries. But you wonder, where is the intelligence? It's not fighting spam already. If you get a message like: Cable_TV Filter Lets You Get It ALL_FOR_NOTHING, IF: b1hgq16776 Then I guess you can suggest that this is a spam message. And later, how is one to know if you get a message from a cable company, that it isn't a newsletter about cable TV? Do anti-spam tools used in the Bat work with, or do they obsolesce other anti-spam applications? Sorry for the basic questions. But I'd get to get the facts straight in my mind. -- Best regards, Adam Current version is 2.10.03 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Anti-spam
Is there any website that details anti-spam basics with tb? There seem to be so many tools, that I am not sure where is the route to think about. Are tools there to complement each other, or just for a variety of options? You feel like testing new methods with like a test account or something. But you don't really expect to get any spam with a new account. So, there's just a small hesitance for experimenting. -- Best regards, Adam Current version is 2.10.03 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

I second that. My installation of POPFile is currently running at a whisper short of 99% accuracy. It's quite a shock these days when I actually get a spam message in my regular mail. The great thing about POPFile is that you can set up any number of categories - not just spam and ham - and use it for general mail classification. It adds a custom header or a tag to the subject (or both if you so desire) so it's a piece of cake to filter in The Bat - or any other POP3 e-mail client for that matter. As an experiment I've been running BayesIt and POPFile side-by-side and POPFile always catches spams that BayesIt misses The one downside is the POPFile, as its name suggests, can only handle POP3 accounts. So to suggest that you really need to be abiding certain rules in the storage of a message that should be sent out on the internet later. But then, that is about what you need to consider to have effective transmission once these electrons have taken flight in other formations. The same RFC said: Some message systems may store messages in formats that differ from the one specified in this standard. This specifica- tion is intended strictly as a definition of what message content format is to be passed BETWEEN hosts. So, prior to its sending, I guess in an Outbox it could be in any form. Not really. But, the main goal when you have a program handling content is how to effectively manipulate the content, and display it in a readable form. I guess the headers would be in the sense of the complete e-mail source. I know some programs definitely seem to vary from an ordinary message source display in a Sent folder. Have you used Pegasus Mail? I think there are a few headers it doesn't bother to represent. But in general, you have internal data, and external representation. Items in the Sent folder can be flagged, read, unread, coloured black and blue. Would it be a bug or not a bug if a sent message could not be coloured? Or they could be Read, but not Unread again? The subject of this thread isn't much of an example for where you define what is a bug. I mean, mainly where you talk about something malfunctioning, is where you may have a lot of chaos. A lot of users complain. Effective work cannot be done. Or something thereabouts. Not so much at some periphery of operation where data conveys some impression most of the time which is very effective, and few surprises. I can't really rate it on a scale of 1 to 10. But if you can't trust a sort on a main aspect of content that may occur to you, it seems annoying. TB shines at the sort. Now, maybe you wouldn't find that happen to you even once in a blue moon. But that's no reason to imply it doesn't happen for other users sometimes. >>> So, I'm still going to submit the bug... >> >> I think yours is a feature request, not a bug. M> Agree. The Bat is very best at representing a lot of details from all the delivery process. So it's easy to second-check if mail was from a spammer, or a commercial source, or your friend. The received mail has full information. Surely it is a bug if the sent mail is lacking full information! Now, maybe you reflect on the main field names they chose for Received mail. They chose Created, and Received. A very sensible model for mail that you received. For mail that was sent, the salient dated information is the date and time the mail was sent. If I look up under a date, I can't find when a message was sent. Instead, I am fooled by a very similar date that makes me believe I have an accurate impression of the listing. The Sent folder has Two date fields: Saved, and Created. This Created field should be listing the date and time when messages are sent. As it stands, these fields are redundant meaning-wise. And they have the same contents. A Saved date would make more sense for a text editor. A Mailer should preserve the time mail was mailed. :-) It is surely a bug to mislead the user. >From URL: > An error or defect in software or hardware that causes a program to malfunction. This definition of bug is too concise. Would have to consult then who to advise for the implication of malfunction. -- Best regards, Adam Current version is 2.02.3 CE | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Just now I was emptying my Trash mailbox. So I right click on it, and click Empty folder. So now it goes into a real state of concentration. It is busy, and it has got the hourglass there. Restore
Under menu Tools, we use Backup to backup accounts. There is a setting here for Global Options. Anyone here have a better idea than me what this refers to? Folders and rearranging
Have you ever noticed that if you try to add a new folder to an account, the new folder is always added at the very bottom of the account tree? So, let's say you are trying to add some categories in which to stick the boxes. And you have maybe a hundred folders or more. So you are there hanging around at the top of the tree, so you'd like to place things in some better order. Or maybe later archiving, or whatever. So I should take this bunch of folders, and package them up in some new folder, shall we say, boxed tight. So that random parts don't just hang around aimlessly. Since you started at the top of the tree, now you need to get the parts at the top, and move everything half a dozen screens to the very bottom. I can say that I scratch my head at this point, see? Are there other options, or anything I have missed? This could really take a while, as is. Another thing is, say on the other hand you take a fresh new Account. It has automatically like 5 folders or something to start off with. Try create a new folder. Now, if you try to move the original bunch, Inbox, and so on, it seems to fail. When you drag one to the new folder, the pointer does not change form as you would expect. -- Best regards, Adam Current version is 2.02.3 CE | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re: System for archiving
So my question is with these duplicates. The method I described I was saying it could work effectively if TB was convinced to kill the Unread messages. If it kills Read messages, then I will be left with two batches of the same Unread messages. If it does cut out the extraneous chaff, and delete not just *comparable* but *identical* messages, then it will leave a complete archive. (Unless I'm mistaken.) How does Kill Dupes work? System for archiving
One way to archive messages is if you have a filter to copy all incoming messages destined for that folder, copy to another folder. If you do this though, the archive will not indicate which messages were read, and which not. No statuses. So, do you think that can be achieved? I was thinking, well a Read filter could copy messages to that same destination folder. So then, you'd have all the messages. Plus a bunch of duplicates. So maybe you could try going to that folder. Same folders
Using two independent Bats, I noticed they are forced to use the same folder set. This is the IMAP mailbox interface. I really don't want that. I want to DL independent folders on the 2nd TB. Might someone suggest how this is happening? -- Best regards, Adam Current version is 1.62 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Yeah. I just supposed there's probably technical knowledge around here to suggest what type of thing might happen. I certainly downloaded TB successfully with IE before. What type of event can a download manager keep track of that IE can't? Does IE simply take what it receives from the web server? Or is it doing some poor management or error correction, and failing to report that? Since it happened several times, error correction doesn't make much sense though. -- Best regards, Adam Current version is 1.62 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Though the last time I tried one, Getright, IE continued to download all files. And GR just seemed to have a little icon at bottom without affect. IE should retrieve what is on the website though, shouldn't it? It took less than a second (shouldn't be that fast). But, all it said was File downloaded. No other message. I thought the downloads would be mirrored. But can't see sign of one. -- Best regards, Adam Current version is 1.62 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Ritlabs download
On the Bat download page, the file 'the_bat.exe' downloads and turns out to be 96 KB. It manages to come up to the Setup to Install screen. Naturally, it does not go ahead normally. Where might I find the best current version? -- Best regards, Adam Current version is 1.62 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Send and Check All seems to get set to a function key at default. I would not keep that default. If you just got one key, you can hit it accidentally. -- Best regards, Adam Current version is 1.62 | "Using TBUDL" information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
