Did you enable the POP3& SMTP Options on the Yahoo! website (you
have to be logged on to your email-account to do so)
If not, do so. Therefore go to Options | POP... and enable it
there. After that you should be able to access your account via a
MUA.

Remember to check POP-before-SMTP in TB's Account Settings under
Transport | SMTP-Authentication

Yeah, but as someone said earlier folder level templates are crap. Ok,

Sometimes this messes everything up. It's better to use the

You got the idea wrong. It's supposed to start TB! regularly with my
batch file instead of the normal shortcut to thebat.exe
Thus the backup will be done every time you decide to shutdown TB!.
It will not cost much performance, though the zipping will.

A> isnt it easier to just call the batch file that exports the

It's just one more click to do. I'm a lazy person, a person who often
forgets such routine tasks as starting the TB! backup. This is why I
did the batch.

I will release the reworked version of my batch file tonight.

Ack.

WB> If I remember right, wasn't it c:\thebat\thebat.exe /exit? And I

Yes, this is the right command. Though this is supposed to be placed
at the beginning of your backup start file (if there is any).

This command will end TB!, so in the batch file I've written it is of
no use as the batch file will wait until TB! is closed and *only* then
it will proceed.
Though if you are able to add this command to the file which starts
your automatic backup it will close TB!, then the Registry settings
will be exported, the whole package is zipped and my batch file will
close down. After that your backup can proceed and backup the backed
up TB! settings & mailbase(s) along with the rest of your files.

Seems to be quite redundant to me, if you ask. But if you like it...

Here we go again! I solved the three files problem. Now it's only one.

Create a new batch file (see my other reply)

Add this to it (you can leave the REM lines they are only for
explanation):

REM TB!START
start /wait c:\programs\tb!\thebat.exe
REM for Win9x exchange "/wait" with "/w"

REM BACKUP
regedit /e c:\programs\tb!accounts\UserRegSetting.reg "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT"
c:\programs\PowerArchiver\POWERARC.EXE -a -s -u c:\Backup\BatBackup
c:\programs\tb!accounts\*.*

Save as TB!START.bat

Create a shortcut on your desktop pointing to this file. Open the
shortcut and replace the path of the target (destination) of the
shortcut with:

c:\programs\HideWindow\hidewndw.exe /r C:\Temp\TB!START.bat
^^
Insert your path to HideWindow here

Replace icon if needed. Click "OK"

See? This will open TB!, but you won't see the MS-DOS Window of the
batch file. After closing TB! your Zip-Utility come up and store your
Mailbases and settings to c:\Backup\BatBackup

This way it's much better!

NA> In any case, am I to presume that your method of backing up TB!
NA> does not include a provision to back up the Registry settings?

It does include every time backup of the registry settings.

KJ>> First, create a batchfile looking like this:

Steps to reproduce:

1. Download HiddenWindow from
http://www.winsite.com/info/pc/win95/desktop/hidewndw.zip/downl.html
This is freeware. Copy the contents of the Zipfile anywhere you like,
no install is needed.

2. Create an empty text file using the editor. (Do this every time for
each new batchfile to be created)

3. Type the following in the editor:

regedit /e e:\programme\tb!accounts\UserRegSetting.reg "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT"
   [2] ^^^[1]
::This line will export TB's Registry Settings [1] into the specified
::path [2] (If you are running W9x add "@" w/o "" before regedit (no
::blank in between))

"f:\sharedprogs\PowerArchiver\POWERARC.EXE" -a -s -u "f:\Backup\BatBackup"
"e:\programme\tb!accounts\*.*"

::This line will call your favourite Zip-Utility (mine is
::PowerArchiver) with the appropriate switches (maybe you need to change
::this to fit your program):
::   -a - add files to archive
::   -s - save full path names
:: -u - when adding files uses Update method

::Second path is where the archive is stored and the name of it
::Third path is what to be archived (your TB MAIL root folder here)

4. Save as TB!Backup.bat (Check if the file has really extension
*.bat, if not change in Explorer or whatever. If you can't see the
file extension, click View | Folder options (don't know exactly as I'm
using german Windows) | Uncheck "Hide file extensions if known to
system" then you can change the extension to *.bat

5. Crate another empty text file.
6. Add this:

start /wait e:\programme\tb!\thebat.exe /nologo
call f:\sharedprogs\TB!Backup.bat
::Running W9x? Replace "/wait" with "/w"

7. Save as TB!Combined.bat
8. Create another text file.
9. Add this:
F:\SHAREDPROGS\HIDEWINDOW\HIDEWNDW.EXE /r E:\TB!Combined.bat
[1]^^^^[2]

[1] will call up the program HideWindow to hide the Window created by
[2] TB!Combined.bat which will first start TB! wait in the background
till TB! is closed and then the backup is performed via running
TB!Backup.bat.

10. Save as TB!Replace.bat

11. Create a shortcut on your desktop pointing to TB!Replace.bat
Add the TB! icon if you like.
Use this shortcut to start TB!

NA> What advantages are there to your type of backup, compared to Tools/Backup?

It's proven to be working for ages, no problems in lost AB entries,
missing groups, filters or whatever.

*It's working regardless of the running TB! version* No Beta trouble.

I think a more experienced user with some knowledge of writing
batchfiles can strip this three files into one which will be much more
convenient. Someone volunteering?

Nick, I hope it's not too complicated to read through (myself reading
it, I'm not very proud of the explanation)
If you want I will send you the files OFF-LIST so you only have to
change the paths.

The one's where the delete option is grayed out are messages which do
not have a text version in it. Pure HTML if you want to call it. The
ones where the delete is available have also a text version in it.
This how it appears to me at least. I have one such message w/o text

Can't delete HTML Attachement...

Hello fellow listmembers,

I have one weird bug for you:

I just received a message written in HTML which I tried to delete the
HTML attachement as usual. (Right-click on HTML icon - Delete)
*But* nothing happens!

I checked against some other messages in HTML - no problem to delete
it. Just this one message is behaving that way...

I'm just curious to know if this happened to someone before.

Well, you can read newsgroups with TB actually. You need of course
third-party programs to get yourself a workaround. I only know this
very little as I'm not into newsgroups, but on the german TB list are
some users who use TB and some program named Korrnews or Hamster to
read and send to NG.
I will try to get more info for you and try to get them to get in
touch with you.

Manual Backup Improvements

2001-01-05 Thread Kari Jakobi

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello fellow listmembers,

for all of you who rely on the manual backup procedure for
TB instead of using the (newly) built in function.
With the help of Thomas, Roel and Andrey I found a very
convenient way for doing this:

The way I designed it will execute the Backup everytime TB
is closed *automagically* without you even noticing anything
has changed.

I assume you have already a batchfile exporting the TB
registry settings and then calling up your favourite Packer.

First, create a batchfile looking like this:

start /wait X:\PATH\thebat.exe
:: WIN9x users use "/w" instead of "/wait"
call X:\PATH_TO_EXISTING_BACKUP.BAT

Use this batchfile to fire up TB instead of thebat.exe.
This will result in two windows popping up (TB itself and
the MS-DOS window where the batchfile is executed)

To get rid of the MS-DOS window, which will reside in your
taskbar use the following batchfile to hide that window
(backup procedure will *not* be changed in any way):

X:\PATH\HIDEWNDW.EXE /r X:\PATH_TO_TBw/Backup.bat

This one will start the batchfile from the first example
using a little program (running under Win9x to W2K) which
will hide the MS-DOS window.

The program HIDEWINDOW is freeware and available from:
http://www.winsite.com/info/pc/win95/desktop/hidewndw.zip/downl.html
(about 35Kb)

HTH some of you.

I get a little bit dizzy with this last line... "link it to

You mean "Place a shortcut of this batch file on your

I don't know if there's another way, but if you enable the
hotkey on your PGPtray Options tab "Shift+Ctrl+D" the
decrypted message will be displayed in PGP's own viewer. You
can't answer from there though.

Therefore you have to hack the batpgp65.dll in your TB! root
folder manually with a HexEditor. Search for the string
"6.5i" in the file and edit it to your needs. If you are not
capable of doing so, I would be glad to send it to you
off-list.

There was a discussion about Palm support on one of the

Palm.

There's one Frank Weidmann ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) who solved the

a) You can save the whole TB! Folder including your Mail folders to
the CDR(W).

b) Save just your Mail folders to the CDR(W) as it seems copying TB!
itself back to your harddisk might take as long as installing it
new.

c) Use the manual backup utility provided on the FAQ and copy the ZIP
to the CDR(W).

You have to export the registry strings anyways, so go and get the
manual backup utility and use it for your backups.

Make sure you go check out the FAQ, there is instructions for
exporting the reg settings and the mail folders.

You are right. You have to add "\n" after the word where you want the
line wrapping. (Without the "") You have to add this in the text file
where your cookies are stored. Don't forget that TB! will interpret
*every* single line of that file as an independent cookie, therefore
if you have blank lines in it - blank lines will also be inserted
occasionally as a cookie.
OTOH you can wrap the Cookies manually by pressing Alt+L in the
editor. Which

^^
Looks good to me.

Yes that's right. Best if you backup the new messages now. Then export
them via TB!'s export function. Afterwards put your old backup in.
This should get your old messages back. Then just import the exported
messages. Remember that the hilighted folder will be the folder where
the imported files will end up in.

If not, you have to change *every* relation in your thebatcu.reg and
thebatlm.reg files to fit your new paths.

Assuming you store your accounts outside of TB!'s folder:

1. Unzip your backup to the appropriate location.

2. Install The Bat, but don't answer the questions about your mail
   accounts.

3. Close TB! and execute thebatcu.reg and thebatlm.reg

4. Open TB! everything should be fine now.

If you store your accounts within TB! folder: install TB! first, then
unzip your backup.

This is the way it's working on my machines. Hope it will on yours,
too. Good luck! Viv la Vyèj!

You did. Is only the list moderator capable of advising others?
Isn't it better if the users handle as much as possible themselves?

My PGP is based viaVoice, so I have to sing when a message is

Wrong. TB! just displays the HTML part of an HTML message as an
attachment, but it is not one. The encoding of an HTML message and a
plain text message differ (you can see it for yourself in the headers
(Ctrl+Shift+K) where: "Content-Type: multipart/alternative" stands for
an HTML message and "Content-Type: text/plain" stands for plain text).

TS> When I send a message to my 2nd PC with MS "lookout" express on it I

Because you did not create an HTML message, as your message body is
encoded "text/plain" with an *additional* attachment.

TS> I don't have to do that often but I don't like the Idea to have to use

I don't see an other way.

Best if you use folder specific templates for your business folder
which shall be PGP-Signed. Use the %SIGNCOMPLETE macro in the specific
folder template to have all messages which are created in that folder
automatically PGP-Signed.

This way you could disable "Sing when completed" by default.

Some ISP's limit the size of a message to xxx KB. So does mine. If I
try to send a message bigger than the limit, my ISP cancels the
transport at reaching the limit. Maybe that's your problem?

BUG REPORT: Account password override

2000-11-29 Thread Kari Jakobi

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hello List,

I often use shareware, mostly on the nag screen is a
mail-the-author-link, which opens a new message addressed to the
author.

Problem:

When I click on such a link a new message window pops up with the
preferred mail account.

This *should* not happen as I set up a password for the account.
Furthermore it is possible to send the mail even without password. :-(

I tried it in different programs, i.e. "RazorLame 1.1.0", "Rename-It!
2.0", "Password Keeper 2.35d", "Power Archiver 2000 v6" everytime I
got a positive.

Anybody else?

Sorry, can't reproduce this behaviour. Tried it in all accounts (4) in

For me personal - yes. I used to backup vital parts of my system to an
other partition, which was not another physical drive, but a logic
partition of my hdd1. I once lost my whole c:\ due to "tactical
interference" by my power supplier. The backed up data on the other
drive was good enough to restore everything I needed.

It's not the best solution, as it was mentioned earlier - if you have
the possibility to get to a *real* backup method, i.e. ZIP-Drive's,
DAT a.o., use them. If not - go get one!

Ever heard of Project Echelon? It is there, right next to my city, at
least a part of it. In Bad Aibling (Germany, Bavaria) there used to be
US barracks. Although they almost shut it down the radio antenna is
still working - it is said it's maintained by NSA. It is linked
together with a station in Augsburg and so on.

These antennas are huge about 400 meters high (but almost 300 meters
are below the ground) and up to 200 meters in length. This is just to
cover radio. Now assume they put the same effort into the covering of
satellite up-/downlinks and www. 'ere we go...

Yes, indeed. If I receive a message with - say, a changed home
address from a person who is already in my AB, I open the reffering AB
entry and godda** it, everytime I'm at this point I already have
forgotten the new address and can't switch easily between the windows,
because TB! won't let me.

This might not be a problem if you only have to change a single line
in an entry but if you have to change the complete address let me tell
you it's a real PITA.

Just my 2 cents...

For the ñ use 'Alt+164' and for Ñ use 'Alt+165', these are the ASCII
extended codes. For a complete list see

This list is quite good, also explains the difference between the DOS

Messages received/created on the same date as your system date only
show up with the time stamp, tommorrow those messages you received
today which have been written today will have also the date stamp. No

Just open Notepad.exe, paste the two @regedit lines into it and save
this as bat_registry_settings.bat

Then execute this file and it will all be done automatically for you.
It will create two files: "UserRegSetting.reg" and
"MachineRegSetting.reg" on the specified drive (here: Z:\) which you
can specify to your needs, e.g. C:\TEMP\

These two files need to be copied to your new system and then executed
from any location.

You need to extract the registry paths for TB! from your original
machine and copy them into the knew ones. IOW, extract
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\RIT" and "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\RIT"
with a batch file with the following commands:

@regedit /e Z:\UserRegSetting.reg "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT"
@regedit /e Z:\MachineRegSetting.reg "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\RIT"

On your new machine just double click these two *.reg files and
Win-d'oh!s will automatically add the strings.

Just my 2 cents

As I can see you managed to sign (and even enctypt?) your messages

do it? If I try to sign a message w/ PGP 7 I only get a message box

No, this is not my intention. I think they should continue both, as
some users might think that S/MIME is the appropriate tool for their
job.

As Thomas pointed out it seems to be NAI's fault, as they do not make
the source code of PGP available fast enough to public and not
RITLabs.

As filter string use "tbudl" , condition "active"
move to folder "tbudl"

And locate the filter at the top of your filters.

macro question about s/mime and pgp

2000-11-06 Thread Kari Jakobi

Hello list,

I was wondering if there is a macro for using in the templates to make
a decision between the use of pgp or s/mime.

I know the macro "%signcomplete", but can I specify this macro a bit
more precisly to make a difference between the use of s/mime or pgp?
Like "%signcomplete=pgp" or "%signcomplete=s/mime"

TIA

I had the same problems w/ PGP, so I decided to not use it on this
board, because of the known problems ("- -- "). Though the sig can be
removed by adding the following line to your reply template:

%QUOTES="%SETPATTREGEXP=""(?is)(-BEGIN PGP SIGNED.*?\n(Hash:.*?\n)

No, I am not a list moderator, Jan. I just wanted to remind you as a
"brother in list". No disrespect.

Do you mean HTML? Therefore go to "Options" and turn HTML-Autoview off.
Messages will be displayed in plain text. The HTML will be available as

you can just drag & drop them from one account to the other. sometimes

TB! itself is almost immune to the feared mail virii such as the worms.
but if you receive infested messages w/ or w/o attachments and save them
to your disc and open them afterwards with another application you are
busted. so the answer is definately YES.

c> And if I should continue using it, how does one configure NAV to see
c> thebat!?

Under Account Properties choose "Transport" there you have to change the
Mail Server (normally your pop3 server) to "127.0.0.1" without the
quotaion marks. Then include your pop3 server address into your user
name field. Should look like this:

USER: login.name/pop3.server.name

You have to do this manually for each account you want to be checked by
NAV

hello list!

i' fighting the a big problem since a few days.
my inbox is sorted by old to new ones by date/time
opening the first new message i proceed with the button "previous" since
"next" brings me back in time to the already read messages in that
inbox. but sometimes tb! does not open the next message but one which
is located some mails downwards. ex.:

from: to: subj:created:
dierk haasismarck sorry to david and...Oct 26th 2000,19:51
joeojoeo re:tbb and tbi files Oct 26th 2000,20:02
dierk haasisming li re:mapi againOct 26th 2000,20:03
marc sommer roel re:pasting text and wrap Oct 26th 2000,20:03

i viewed dierk's "sorry to david and..." message, jumped via "previous"
button to the next message and ended up in marc sommer's reply to roel.

closed the message window, proceeded with joeo's mail. went on to next
message - ended up again in the wrong message (tb! again left 2 msgs
out). seems to be the only system in it.

anybody help?

sorry, my fault. i meant "quick templates" instead of fast templates.
can i have special layouted quick templates for my english people.
so that i select a user from my ab --> new message --> tb! opens a new

eg. "herr schmid" will be opened with my

WB> 2) In the signal strings section it looks as though it looks in
the
WB> headers for the strings. This can only be addresses or words in
the
WB> subject field but not in the message body, is this correct?

no. you can specify a string to search for. whereas "location"
defines the place where to apply the rule on the msg. which would
be "text" in your case.

pgp complete msg signing

2000-10-19 Thread Kari Jakobi

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

hello batlisters!

if i use the template option "%signcomplete" i get an error when
trying to send the message. the error looks like the following
after confirming my passphrase:

"there is no certificate of signature for "

and

"no valid certificate of signature found. message can not be signed
 with s/mime."

both are tb! error notifications, not pgp's.

if i sign the msg manually with pgpi ver6.5.8 there's no problem.

 anybody help?
