Questions about addressing
First question: When addressing, clicking a blank area in one of the windows (To: CC: BCC: and Subject:), a little pick-list appears. It seems that these suggestions come from both the address book and from e-mails received (maybe even sent) Very convenient until one of these people has changed his/her e-mail address. The suggestions from the address book appear with the new (i.e., changed) e-mail address. However, the other appear as well. Chance of picking the wrong suggested addressee. How can I delete the unwanted addresses from the pick-list? Second question: When sending a group e-mail, is it possible to omit one of the addressees on an ad-hoc basis. Let's say that I remind this group of our weekly meeting. Next week, at the weekly meeting, we plan a surprise birthday party for one of the people. When I write about this event to the group, clearly, I do not want to tip off the celebrant. How do I sent mail to the group but omitting one person? Sure if it is a small group, it is possible just to select from the address book the people for whom the mail is intended, but a group of 50? Ugh! Thanks. -- Leonard S. Contiuation symbol for long lines in a macro
When I send e-mail to a group, I like to put the names and addresses in the BCC: pane to maintain the privacy of the recipients. Now when I click on the name of the group in my address book and the click on the "Create new message" icon, the name of the list appears in the To: pane. I then have to cut the list name in the To: pane and paste it into the BCC: pane. Sometimes, I forget . I could use $BCC="recipients" but 1. The list of recipients can be very long, so: what is the continuation symbol to wrap the lines without adding a space and 2. Missing icons
The icons in my tool bar while composing a new message (or a reply) have gone missing. Particularly, the Send button is gone. I cannot figure out how to get them back. I have not seen any traffic on this list for several weeks. Possibly I turned of the list before a trip abroad last October, but, if so, I haven't a clue how to turn it back on. Windows 1253 and Windows 1258
tbudl, I am suddently receiving an error message that the mail message I am sending cannot be encloded using Windows-1253 and the I should use Window-1258. Not on all messages. Perhpas something in the incoming message to which I am replying. I have tried washing the e-mail message through Notepad and Word. That does not help. So what setting do I use to prevent this error? I found a whole bunch of languages in Tools>Options> CharSets(XLAT), but nothing with 1258, except Vietnamese. So I ticked that, but it made no diffeence. Identity of bcc addressees
I send out group mailings fairly frequently to various groups. I have the addressees for each group in a group in my address book. I highlight the name of the group and tap the new message icon (a sheet of paper with a feather). The name of the group appears in the To: pane in a new message. I then cut the name of the group from the To: pane and paste it into the Bcc: pane. Simple enough. However, people come and go from the various groups, and occasionally, I need to check who did receive a particular message. Since this is a Bcc, all I can see is the name of the group, not the particular recipients. I use the RFC-822 Headers view. On the other hand, if I insert several recipients individually into a Bcc pane, I can go back and see the individual recipients. How can I have the Group recipients appear in the RFC-Headers just as if I had entered them individually? Thanks. -- Leonard S. Backup files
Even though, within TheBat, a daily backup occurs, the backup file, C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\TheBat!\Autobackup.tbk\ is not being copied to my external backup device (a memory stick) at all. My system backup procedure has multiple tasks defined for every directory (folder) that I want to backup, including a task for the directory (folder) that contains Autobackup.TBK. Whew! That is a mouthful. Note that this backup file is located in TheBat! directory and not in the TheBat!\Backup directory. The TheBat!\Backup folder is, in fact, empty. Note also that in the TheBat! directory there is a series of files, Autobackup.$1, .$2, .$3, .$4 and $.5, each one larger than the previous one and each one with a later creation date starting in October, 2012 when I have work done on the computer through November, 2013. As far as I can tell, the backup for TheBat is: --Standard --No file name entered in the window for Backupfile So, while TheBat is being backed-up at one level, the backup is unprotected insofar as it is not copied to an external medium in the same way that all of my personal files are backed up. The task to backup TheBat! runs every night, but does not copy Autobackup.TBK to the external medium. My question is: why does my backup task not recognize that Autobackup.TBK is newer than the one on the backup medium. After all, it is recreated every night. (Once I solve this problem, I will probably come back to the list to ask for advice about the relative merit of Standard or Incremental backup.) Thanks for you patience in reading this long note. I pasted a very long line into an e-mail message. The message starts with "1." because it is part of a list. There is already a "2." in the list. Backup; location timing; system impact
1. I want to be sure my backup file is backed up to my flashdrive. In the backup window, no file is listed. When I "browse" I am taken to TheBat directory. There is one file, autobackup.$4 that was modified last night at 7:05 pm. That is about when the backup finished. There is also a file, autobackup.tbk that was modified at 7:06 two nights ago. I assume that this is the previous backup file the was "flipped" when last-night's backup started (or finished). Correct? However, there are a couple of older files, autobackup.$3, autobackup.$2 and autobackup.$1. Can these be deleted safely? 2. I cannot find any place where I can set the time for the backup. Right now, it is set for 7:00 pm (or when the computer wakes up after 7:00 pm). How can I change that. 3. Finally, I have noticed that, when the backup is in progress, there is a noticeable hit on system performance, about 25% CPU, based on a Task Manager reading. Is that normal? Thanks. -- Leonard S. Reply, address history and the address book
The thread about deleting address history reminded me about a vexing problem that I have asked about previouly, with not progresss on my end. Even though I have a reply template for an addressee, TheBat seem to ignore it. For example, I receive a lot of e-mail from people with titles (Dr. Professor, etc.). Frequently their titles are part of their names that preced the . In the case of those people whom I know personally, I like to address them by their first names, and have a reply template to do exactly that. TheBat ignores the template and starts the replay e-mail with Dr., Proffessor, etc.) It was suggested in an earlier instance of this thread that possibly I have the addressee in more than one place, thus conhfusing TheBat. Although I do have a few of these cases like this, the improper salutation appears in all cases. It seems that, come what may, TheBat looks to the account templates and not the templates in the address book. Thanks. -- Leonard S.
