I have a related, and easier-to-understand problem:
In a message template I have the line %COOKIE="cookie1.txt", and also a

Filters through accounts

2000-03-23 Thread SyP

Hi!

I set up a filter in my Account1, and it moves some messages into
Account2//Inbox. I checked "Continue processing with other filters"
in Sorting Office, but The Bat! would not execute the filters of
Account2.

Is there any way for filters to work throughout accounts?

I can't do that :(. There is

1) Archive messagebox
After that, and importing the resulting .TXT file, all Calypso messages appear
in one big message in The Bat!, each message in its own tab

2) Save message to archive
It seems to work more or less, only it gets the current time instead
of the original time.

Any idea?

I think you cannot in this way. But you could distribute messages

storing messages in mailbox or individually

2000-04-03 Thread SyP

Hello The Bat! users and developers,

what is the main reason for storing the messages in one big file per
folder? I'm subscribed to quite a few mailing lists, and sometimes I
get two hundred messages a day. Now it isn't uncommon that one day
after defragmenting my volume, my bigger messagebases (with >4000
emails) are shattered to >7-800 fragments.

Wouldn't it be nicer if TB used one file per message? NTFS and also
ReiserFS on Linux can store small files pretty efficiently!
(Of course FAT16 or FAT32 cannot).
So maybe the forthcoming Linux port should use the 1 f/msg method.

Take a look at the kludges (ctrl+shift+K) of a message from a list.
In the case of TB mailing lists,
X-MDMailing-List: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
X-MDMailing-List: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
helps to distinguish between messages.

So the filter below should work:

String: X-MDMailing-List: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Location: Kludges
Presence: Yes

In the case of other mailing lists (most notably on egroups.com lists),
you may want to filter on Delivered-To:

Hopt this helps.

Maybe. But with 1 msg/file
a) folder-to-folder operations would be faster
b) folders wouldn't have to be compressed time to time
c) you could code up some interesting new concepts easier, I mean
_virtual folders_.

For c) you would need a filesystem with some database-like semantics,
currently BeFS, at some point of the future ReiserFS.

AVK> What for? Why don't you like the 2files per 1folder method? Remember,
AVK> under Linux there are no problems with defragmentation anyway;-)
The situation is way better than in FAT/NTFS, but EXT2 isn't
invulnerable either... If the volume fills up, fragmentation can't be
avoided, and then Linux won't automagically defragment your files
after you have enough space...

The Bat! - suggestions

Hello The Bat! developers,

There are some features I would like to see in your program:

I'd like if the columns of Address Book behaved in a similar way to

Filtering by Address Book entry - a wish

Hello The Bat! users,

I have many friends, who have multiple email addresses. I even have
more then ten. Currently, if I want to be sure that Sorting Office
correctly filters, I must write like this:
Location: Sender Presence: Yes Strings: baz1@foo1|baz2@fool|baz3@foo3 etc.

I would like to be able to simply tell TB! to apply a filter to any
mail coming from a single entry in Address Book. (in which there are
all email addresses listed for a person) And then, to apply to all
entry from a Group.

What do you think about that?
Or is there some alternative way of doing it?

I would add that C source code often looks silly in TB.
Consider:

dprintk("RPC: %4d exit() = %d\n", task->tk_pid, task->tk_status);
status = task->tk_status;
if (task->tk_exit)
task->tk_exit(task);

I suggest that if a ">" character is preceded by a "-" than TB
shouldn't consider it as quotation. Please, developers! :)

But, we have that! :)
Either insert %COOKIE to your templates
(and then Account->Properties->Templates->Cookies should contain your
 signatures)

or put your signatures in a file, and then insert a line to your
templates like the one below:

%COOKIE="F:\Program Files\The Bat!\haiku.txt"

You can have multiple-line cookies, just write it in one line, and put
a "\n" after every line. It works!

I don't believe that TB serves the cookies in truly random order, but
at least it's not always the same.

Of course you could use parking instead (but then you can't delete the

much more than flagging).

1) if one of your hard disk contains an NT, you can set the volumes'

In normal cases, TB deletes its temporary files just like any

abnormal terminations.

If you don't like to worry about files cluttering your windows/temp

That arrow doesn't mean "Favourites", it means "History". Your history

Try to right-click on the TO field isntead, your favourites will

The problem is, TB stores a lot of its configuration in the Windows
Registry.

If you still have your old PC around, save the RIT_Labs entries from
Win95's Registry, and import it to your Win98. There is a batch file
capable of backuping TB's reg. settings, you can grab it from me:

TB's editor uses fixed width fonts only, unless you explicitly modify

It is sufficient to simple put %SINGLERE in your reply template. If

Re: Newbie questions

Hello Katsmeow,

let me first ask you to not begin a new thread by replying to an
unrelated mail, because it messes up the threaded view. Thanks.

You wrote on 7/13/2000, 8:42 PM

K> Anyway, I've read the help files but still have questions (and
K> probably more to come):
Fine.

K> 1. What is a "colour group"? How do you use it and how do you
K> create it?

You can assign each message in the message list to a "colour group".
It makes a better visual experience when navigating the folders.

You can create a colour group in Option -> Message List Colours.
You can set the font's script, style, and colour for read and unread
states separately.
In Sorting Office -> * -> Rule -> Actions you can set the colour
group, or you can filter on it (see the Advanced tab)

K> 2. What is the purpose of flagging a message? Is it only that it
K> puts a red flag next to the message?
Yes. Before flagging I usually used parking to mark a message, but it
has the side effect that I cannot remove the message in one step, so I
better like flagging. (And I am still able to use parking for
important mail)

K> 3. Is there anything in The Bat comparable to labels in Eudora? If
K> so, what?
I do not know Eudora, but maybe Memos worth a look.

K> 4. Searching. How to do you search across all mailboxes.
There are three radiobuttons in the search dialog:
o search in folder
o search in current account
o search in all accounts
The latter two options are relevant.

K> Alternatively is there a way to search across specified mailboxes?
K> This is fairly easily done in Eudora.
Not one I know.

K> 5. I read somewhere that the next version will have MAPI. I saw

I would not expect TB2 to appear in this year, maybe beta versions...

K> 7. Oh, when writing a message, is there any easy way to switch back

It's easy, don't filter by recipient, rather try to find something in
the header which differentiates (is this word even exist?) the mailing
lists.

For example, I filter out TBUDL messages by this rule:

Location: Kludges
Presence: Yes
String: "X-MDMailing-List: [EMAIL PROTECTED]"
